Understanding of tip clearance flow structure in high speed mixed flow compressor

This paper addresses the necessity to make a physical interpretation of a highly complex three-dimensional tip clearance flow field study for high-speed mixed-flow compressor having stage exit static pressure to inlet total pressure ratio of 3.8 with 39,836 rpm rotor *** four different tip configurations namely the constant(l Z 0.016 and 0.019)and variable(l Z 0.011(inlet)-0.019(exit)and 0.019(inlet)-0.022(exit))tip clearances were numerically analysed using available experimental *** numerical investigation reveals that in contrast to the classic jet-wake pattern,two anomalous velocity profiles formed at the impeller exit which results in pressure losses in the vaneless *** the impeller inlet,the tip leakage flow rolls up to discrete tip leakage vortex structure for each tip clearance *** results in the formation of a region of momentum deficit,recirculation zone,which gets weakened as it moves *** tip clearance configuration is observed to profoundly influence the extent and vorticity of the tip leakage *** the splitter blade passage,the tip leakage flow and Coriolis flow interact with passage flow,resulting in the formation of two secondary passage vortices that move downstream along the pressure and suction surface of the splitter *** tip clearance configuration directly influences the impeller exit jetwake pattern by modulating the secondary passage vortices trajectory and ***,off-design analysis for tip clearances l Z 0.016 and l Z 0.019,depict distinctive tip leakage vortex *** operating near the stall conditions(80%of design mass flow rate),l Z 0.019 exhibits bubble shape tip leakage vortex breakdown occurring near the impeller *** result in a substantial change in the tip leakage vortex nature;expansion of the recirculation zone and early weakening of the vorticity in the tip leakage *** is observed that vortex breakdown plays a vital role in characte

Anti-arthritis activity of roots of Hemidesmus indicus ***.(Anantmul)in rats

Objective:To investigate the protective effects of hydroalcoholic and its fractions from roots of Hemidesmus indicus on arthritis in in vitro models of ***:Preliminary phytochemical analysis and thin-layer chromoatography were performed to analyze constituents of hydroalcoholic extract and its three fraction namely ethyl acetate fraction,chloroform fraction and residual fraction of mot of Hemidesmus *** rats models were established by Complete Freund’s *** parameters including paw edema,body weight,arthritic index,erythrocyte sedimentation rate,serum rheumatoid factor,serum C-reactive protein,serum nitrite level,and histopathology of synovial joints were *** was taken as positive ***:Rats treated with hydroalcoholic extract(450 mg/kg,p.o.),ethyl acetate (75 mg/kg,p.o.),chloroform(60 mg/kg,p.o) and residual fractions(270 mg/kg,p.o.),showed significant decrease in physical and biochemical parameters compared with arthritic model rats. Hydroalcoholic extract and its ethyl acetate fraction of Hemidesmus indicus showed significantly higher anti-arthritic activity than chloroform and residual *** analysis demonstrated that both of hydroalcoholic extract and its ethyl acetate fraction had comparable anti-arthritic activity with ***:The present study suggests that Hemidesmus indicus has protective activity against arthritis and the activity might be attributed to presence of terpenoid in hydroalcoholic extract,as well as in ethyl acetate fraction.

Evaluation of L-dopa,proximate composition with in vitro anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activity of Mucuna macrocarpa beans:A future drug for Parkinson treatment

Objective: To investigate L-3, 4-dihydroxyphenylalanine(L-dopa, anti-Parkinson drug),anti-inflammatory activity, proximate nutritional composition and antioxidant potential of Mucuna macrocarpa(M. macrocarpa) ***: L-dopa content was determined and quantified by high performance thin layer chromatography and reversed phase high-performance liquid chromatography(RPHPLC) methods. Anti-inflammatory activity was performed by in vitro protein denaturation inhibition and human red blood cell membrane stabilisation activity. Proximate composition and elemental analysis were also investigated. The antioxidant potential(2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl, N-N-dimethyl-phenylenediamine and ferric-reducing antioxidant power) of M. macrocarpa beans were evaluated by using different extraction solvents. The RP-HPLC analysis also quantified significant phenolics such as gallic acid, tannic acid, p-hydroxybenzoic acid and p-coumaric ***: RP-HPLC quantification revealed that M. macrocarpa beans contain a high level of L-dopa [(115.41 ± 0.985) mg/g] which was the highest among the Mucuna species from Indian sub-continent. Water extract of seed powder showed strong antiinflammatory and antioxidant potential. Proximate composition of M. macrocarpa beans revealed numerous nutritional and anti-nutritional components. RP-HPLC analysis of major phenolics such as tannic acid(43.795 mg/g), gallic acid(0.864 mg/g), p-coumaric acid(0.364 mg/g) and p-hydroxybenzoic acid(0.036 mg/g) quantified successfully from M. macrocarpa beans ***: This study suggests that M. macrocarpa is a potential source of L-dopa with promising anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and nutritional benefits.

A Numerical Approach on Reduction of Young’s Modulus During Deformation of sheet Metals

The paper investigates the elastic behavior of the metal after unloading. For this purpose the strip of metal with tensile gauge length was simulated with high and low strength material. Further the channel forming was modeled for combination of materials to predict the spring-back and compared the results. It is observed that the Young’s modulus (E-value) decreases with the increase in plastic strain. The strength of the material has no effect on the decrease in the E-value after unloading during tension test. However in channel forming the E-value after unloading depends on the starting E-value, spring-back angle and maximum strain achieved in the channel. The proposed mathematical equations to determine the E-value after unloading from the tension test and channel forming test gives very good prediction with each other. It is also found that the lowest spring-back occurred in the channel with the composite Hard-soft material.

Common underlying diseases do not contribute in determining the causes of sudden unexplained death

Background Underlying diseases have a statistically significant positive correlation to sudden death. However, sudden unexplained death （sUD） is different from sudden death, as there is no clinical evidence to support the sudden death due to the original underlying disease, nor a lethal pathological basis to be found during autopsy. In addition, sUD are more common in young, previously healthy individuals, usually without any signs of disease, with no positive lesions found after autopsy. Therefore, a causal relationship between sUD and the underlying disease needs to be further explored. This study aimed to explore the role that common underlying diseases play in patients with sUD and to reveal the correlation between them. Methods The medical records, history and case information of 208 patients with sUD were collected for the survey. All these sUD occurred in the emergency room of Peking University Third Hospital from January 2006 to December 2009. The patients were stratified by with and without common underlying diseases. To examine possible associations between the underlying diseases and the cause of unexplained sudden death, the chi-squared and Fisher＇s exact tests were used. Results Among the 208 patients, 65 were diagnosed with common underlying diseases while 143 were not. Within these two groups, there were 45 patients for whom the clear cause of death was determined. However, there were no statistically significant differences or strong associations （x2=1.238, P 〉0.05） between the 11 patients with （16.90%） and 34 without （23.78%） common underlying disease among these 45 patients. We also found that occurrence of the common underlying diseases, such as neurological system, cardiovascular and pulmonary system diseases, are not statistically significant （P 〉0.05） in the diagnosis of the sUD. Conclusion Common underlying diseases make no obvious contributions to sUD and are not useful in diagnosing the underlying reasons for death.

strong>Introduction:strong> Percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL) is a standard minimally invasive urological procedure for the treatment of large renal calculi. It is also associated with complications arising from absorption of irrigation fluid and intravenous fluid injection. We evaluated the changes occurring in vital and blood parameters during PCNL using 0.9% normal saline (Ns) as an irrigation fluid. strong>Materials and Methods:strong> We prospectively studied 71 patients who underwent PCNL in our hospital between 2016 and 2018. Ns (0.9%) was used as irrigation fluid in all patients. Changes in hemodynamics, hemogram, renal function tests and serum electrolytes were noted and assessed for significance using paired t-test. These changes were correlated with AsA grade, BMI, total operating time, total irrigation fluid used and total intravenous fluid used using Pearson’s correlation test. strong>Results:strong> A significant fall in serum creatinine was present (1.30 ± 0.96 vs. 1.24 ± 0.93) along with a rise in eGFR (85.39 ± 24.10 vs. 90.18 ± 22.58). A significant rise in serum potassium (4.34 ± 0.45 vs. 4.5 ± 0.56) and chloride levels (104.79 ± 3.51 vs. 106.69 ± 3.14) post-operatively was noted. A significant rise in pulse rate (80.84 ± 10.13 vs. 87.76 ± 13.12) and systolic blood pressure (127.67 ± 15.90 vs. 136.88 ± 19.56) post-operatively was noted. There was no significant change noted in hemoglobin, PCV, platelets and serum sodium levels. Total operating time and irrigation fluid volume showed a positive correlation with changes in eGFR, serum chloride, post-operative pulse rate and blood pressure values. Intravenous fluids volume correlated positively with changes in serum potassium, chloride, post-operative pulse rate and blood pressure values. strong>Conclusion:strong> High amount of irrigation fluid absorption can cause early post-operative changes in patients’ hemodynamics and blood indices.
