Mechanisms and Efficacy of Chinese Herbal Medicines in Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia

Benign prostatic hyperplasia(BPH) is one of the most common diseases in elderly men, the incidence of which gradually increases with age and leads to lower urinary tract symptoms(LUTS), which seriously affects the quality of life of patients. Chinese herbal medicines(CHMs) are widely used for the treatment of BPH in China and some other countries. To explore the molecular mechanisms of CHMs for BPH, we conducted a review based on peer-reviewed English-language publications in Pub Med and Web of Science databases from inception to December 31, 2023. This article primarily reviewed 32 papers on the use of CHMs and its active compounds in the treatment of BPH, covering animal and cell experiments, and identified relevant mechanisms of action. The results suggest that the mechanisms of action of CHMs in treating BPH may involve the regulation of sex hormones,downregulation of cell growth factors, anti-inflammatory and antioxidative effects, inhibition of cell proliferation, and promotion of apoptosis. CHMs also exhibit α-blocker-like effects, with the potential to relax urethral smooth muscle and alleviate LUTS. Additionally, we also reviewed 4 clinical trials and meta-analyses of CHMs for the treatment of BPH patients, which provided initial evidence of the safety and effectiveness of CHMs treatment. CHMs treatment for BPH shows advantages as a multi-component, multi-target, and multi-pathway therapy, which can mitigate the severity of the disease, improve LUTS, and may become a reliable treatment option in the future.

Dion-Jacobson （DJ） phase hybrid perovskites have been proven to improve the photovoltaic performance of the devices due to its unique *** present,some DJ hybrid perovskites have been reported and used for photodetection filed,but most of them are based on lead-bromide systems,which is not conducive to construct broadband photodetection devices due to the limitation of intrinsic ***,we constructed a bilayered DJ hybrid perovskite （3AMPY）(EA)Pb2I7(3AMPY2+is 3-（aminomethyl）pyridinium,EA+is ethylammonium) using an aromatic spacer,which exhibit large current on/off ratios of 10～4under 520 and 637 nm *** particular,the single crystal device based on （3AMPY）(EA)Pb2I7shows a distinguished detectivity of 7.4×1012Jones and a high responsivity of 0.89A/W under 637 nm *** finding not only enriches the quantities of DJ hybrid perovskites,but also provides useful assistance for constructing high-performance optoelectronic device in the future.

Metagenomic perspectives on antibiotic resistance genes in tap water:The environmental characteristic,potential mobility and health threat

As an emerging environmental contaminant,antibiotic resistance genes(ARGs)in tap water have attracted great *** studies have provided ARG profiles in tap water,research on their abundance levels,composition characteristics,and potential threat is still ***,9 household tap water samples were collected from the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area(GBA)in ***,75 sets of environmental sample data(9 types)were downloaded from the public *** was then performed to explore the differences in the abundance and composition of ARGs.221 ARG subtypes consisting of 17 types were detected in tap *** the ARG abundance in tap water was not significantly different from that found in drinking water plants and reservoirs,their composition *** tap water samples,the three most abundant classes of resistance genes were multidrug,fosfomycin and MLS(macrolide-lincosamidestreptogramin)ARGs,and their corresponding subtypes ompR,fosX and macB were also the most abundant ARG *** the potential mobility,vanS had the highest abundance on plasmids and viruses,but the absence of key genes rendered resistance to vancomycin ***,the majority of ARGs present in tap water were those that have not been assessed and are currently not listed as high-threat level ARG families based on the World Health Organization *** the current potential threat to human health posed by ARGs in tap water is limited,with persistent transfer and accumulation,especially in pathogens,the potential danger to human health posed by ARGs should not be ignored.

Seismic design of variable cross-section damped steel support frame for post equipment

High-voltage electrical post equipment is generally installed on steel supports,which amplifies the seismic inputs and degrades the seismic performance of *** study proposed a variable cross-section damped steel support frame(VCDFS)with viscous dampers to reduce seismic responses of both tall and low-rise electrical *** VCDFS contains a trapezoidal damper layer to generate rocking motions,enabling the diagonal viscous dampers to dissipate seismic inputs.A theoretical model of post equipment with VCDFS is established,and an optimal design procedure is *** analysis shows that the remaining static stiffness ratio λ_(k) is the key parameter that determines the effectiveness of the *** VCDFS reduces the average displacement and stress response of a post insulator by 39.4%and 44.6%,respectively,together with a significant decrease in the dynamic amplification ***,it is recommended to use the VCDFS instead of the conventional latticed-steel frame in earthquake zones.

In the Internet era,recommendation systems play a crucial role in helping users find relevant information from large *** imbalance is known to severely affect data quality,and therefore reduce the performance of recommendation *** to the imbalance,machine learning algorithms tend to classify inputs into the positive(majority)class every time to achieve high prediction *** can be categorized such as by features and classes,but most studies consider only class *** this paper,we propose a recommendation system that can integrate multiple networks to adapt to a large number of imbalanced features and can deal with highly skewed and imbalanced datasets through a loss *** propose a loss aware feature attention mechanism(LAFAM)to solve the issue of feature *** network incorporates an attention mechanism and uses multiple sub-networks to classify and learn *** better results,the network can learn the weights of sub-networks and assign higher weights to important *** propose suppression loss to address class imbalance,which favors negative loss by penalizing positive loss,and pays more attention to sample points near the decision *** on two large-scale datasets verify that the performance of the proposed system is greatly improved compared to baseline methods.

Adjacent Segment Biomechanical Changes After Implantation of Cage Plus Plate or Zero-Profile Device in Different Segmental Anterior Cervical Discectomy and fusion

Cage plus plate (CP) and zero-profile (Zero-P) devices are widely used in anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF). This study aimed to compare adjacent segment biomechanical changes after ACDF when using Zero-P device and CP in different segments. First, complete C1—C7 cervical segments were constructed and validated. Meanwhile, four surgery models were developed by implanting the Zero-P device or CP into C4—C5 or C5—C6 segments based on the intact model. The segmental range of motion (ROM) and maximum value of the intradiscal pressure of the surgery models were compared with those of the intact model. The implantation of CP and Zero-P devices in C4—C5 segments decreased ROM by about 91.6% and 84.3%, respectively, and increased adjacent segment ROM by about 8.3% and 6.82%, respectively. The implantation of CP and Zero-P devices in C5—C6 segments decreased ROM by about 93.3% and 89.9%, respectively, while increasing adjacent segment ROM by about 4.9% and 4%, respectively. furthermore, the implantation of CP and Zero-P devices increased the intradiscal pressure in the adjacent segments of C4—C5 segments by about 4.5% and 6.7%, respectively. The implantation of CP and Zero-P devices significantly increased the intradiscal pressure in the adjacent segments of C5—C6 by about 54.1% and 15.4%, respectively. In conclusion, CP and Zero-P fusion systems can significantly reduce the ROM of the fusion implant segment in ACDF while increasing the ROM and intradiscal pressure of adjacent segments. Results showed that Zero-P fusion system is the best choice for C5—C6 segmental ACDF. However, further studies are needed to select the most suitable cervical fusion system for C4—C5 segmental ACDF. A pyrimidine derivative,6-phenyl-2-thiouracil(PT),was synthesized for developing a corrosion inhibitor(CI)applied in the protection of the nickel−aluminum bronze(NAB)in *** anti-corrosion effect of PT was evaluated by the mass loss experiment,electrochemical tests and surface *** results show that PT exhibits excellent inhibition performance and the maximum inhibition efficiency of PT reaches 99.6%.The interaction mechanism was investigated through X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS)and molecule dynamics simulation based on the density functional theory(DFT).The S-Cu,Al-N and Cu-N bonds are formed by the chemical interactions,leading to the adsorption of PT on the NAB *** diffusion of corrosive species is hindered considerably by the protective PT film with composition of(PT-Cu)_(ads)and(PT-Al)_(ads)on the PT/NAB *** degree of suppression is increased with the addition of more PT molecules.
