Effects of Acupotomy on Immobilization-Induced Gastrocnemius Contracture and Fibrosis in Rats via Wnt/β-Catenin Signaling

Objective To determine whether acupotomy ameliorates immobilization-induced muscle contracture and fibrosis via Wnt/β-catenin signaling *** Thirty Wistar rats were randomly divided into 5 groups(n=6)by a random number table,including control,immobilization,passive stretching,acupotomy,and acupotomy 3 weeks(3-w)*** rat model of gastrocnemius contracture was established by immobilizing the right hind limb in plantar flexion for 4 *** in the passive stretching group received passive stretching at gastrocnemius,a daily series of 10 repetitions for 30 s each at 30-s intervals for 10 consecutive *** in the acupotomy and acupotomy 3-w groups received acupotomy once and combined with passive stretching at gastrocnemius a daily series of 10 repetitions for 30 s each at 30-s intervals for 10 consecutive ***,rats in the acupotomy 3-w group were allowed to walk freely for 3 weeks after 10-day *** treatment,range of motion(ROM),gait analysis[i.e.,paw area,stance/swing and maximum ratio of paw area to paw area duration(Max dA/dT)],gastrocnemius wet weight and the ratio of muscle wet weight to body weight(MWW/BW)were *** morphometric and muscle fiber cross-sectional area(CSA)were assessed by hematoxylin-eosin ***-related mRNA expressions(i.e.,Wnt 1,β-catenin,axin-2,α-smooth muscle actin,fibronectin,and types I and III collagen)were measured using real-time quantitative polymerase chain *** 1,β-catenin and fibronectin concentrations were measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent *** I and III collagen in the perimysium and endomysium were analyzed using *** Compared with the control group,ROM,gait function,muscle weight,MWW/BW and CSA were significantly decreased in the immobilization group(all P<0.01),while protein levels of types I and III collagen,Wnt 1,β-catenin,fibronectin and mRNA levels of fibrosis-related genes were obviously increased(all P<0.01).Tr

Facile synthesis of high-brightness green-emitting carbon dots with narrow bandwidth towards backlight display

High-performance carbon dots(CDs)allowing the application in high-end display devices are highly desirable and usually limited by the absence of simple and easy synthesis *** this work,we exploited an easy-to-implement strategy for the one-step synthesis of green-emitting CDs(G-CDs)with superb optical *** G-CDs were synthesized using m-phenylenediamine(m-PD)as a single precursor,and the reaction reacted at 180℃for 12 h The resultant G-CDs exhibit high-purity and excitationindependent green fluorescence with the photoluminescence(PL)peak located at 516 nm,full width at half maximum(FWHM)of 46 nm,and PL quantum yield(QY)of∼80%under the 470nm excitation *** G-CDs and corresponding composite film prepared with polyvinyl butyral(G-CDs@PVB)exhibit good PL stability after undergoing long-time storage for one year and 360 h exposure under 460nm blue *** G-CDs@PVB film was used as color-conversion materials in green-emitting light-emitting diode(LED)application,exhibiting a Commission internationale de l’Eclairage(CIE)chromaticity coordinate of(0.21,0.44).The film was also used in CD-based liquid crystal display(CD-LCD)application,achieving a color gamut value of 85%.This work will offer a working basis for the synthesis of high-performance CDs as well as their application in displays.

Flow characteristics and bubble statistics during the fragmentation process of the ingested main cavity in plunging breaking waves

Plunging breaking waves play an important role in the exchange of heat,momentum,and mass between the atmosphere and *** this paper,a series of direct numerical simulations is conducted to investigate the fragmentation process of the ingested main cavity in plunging breaking *** two-phase Navier-Stokes equations are solved using the finite-volume method based on adaptive refinement *** free surface is captured using a geometrical volume of fluid *** 2-D,3-D simulations are *** flow fields at different stages of wave breaking are presented and quantitative analysis for bubbles is *** 2-D instantaneous vorticity field and local velocity field are visualized to discuss the general flow characteristics during the fragmentation *** a 2-D parametric study is conducted to investigate the differences in the flow characteristics during the fragmentation process under different wave parameters including initial wave steepness(ε),Bond number(Bo),and Reynolds number(Re).3-D vortex structures are shown to further investigate the mechanisms behind the differences in the flow *** bubble size distributions under two different initial wave steepness are also discussed with their relationship to the fragmentation process of the ingested main *** research offers a significant understanding of the distinct procedures and fundamental dynamics involved in wave breaking,enhancing our comprehension of this intricate event.

In recent years,multicolor cascade supramolecular assemblies with controllable topological morphology have become a research hotspot due to their wide application in light-emitting materials,cell imaging and other ***,several kinds of macrocycles including cucurbiturils,calixarene and cyclodextrins are used as building blocks to construct fluorescent assemblies with anthryl-conjugated phenylpyridine(G),wherein cucurbit[8]uril(CB[8])and G can form nanowires at a stoichiometric ratio of n:n through host-guest encapsulation to form a non-covalent ***,the macrocycle confinement effect drastically enhances the fluorescence emission of G and emission peak generated bathochromic shift from 500 nm to 600 *** the supramolecular polymer is further assembled with amphiphilic calix[4]arene(SC_(4)A8),the fluorescence emission of G?CB[8]further increases to 1.4 times,accompanied by the morphological transformation from linear structure to nanorod ***,a very small amount of dye Cy5 is added to the assembly solution as an energy receptor,and the negatively charged G?CB[8]@SC_(4)A8 system is regarded as an energy *** efficient energy transfer process enables near-infrared(NIR)emission at 675 nm with 71%energy transfer efficiency(ΦET)at a donor/receptor ratio of 100:***,the cascade supramolecular assembly has been successfully applied to targeted imaging in the nucleus of HeLa and A549 cancer cells.

Enhancing adhesive bond strength of CFRP/titanium joints through NaOH anodising and resin pre-coating treatments with optimised anodising conditions

Adhesively Bonded Carbon Fibre Reinforced Plastic(CFRP)and titanium alloy have been extensively used as a hybrid structure in modern aircrafts due to their excellent combination of mechanical properties and chemical *** study utilised NaOH anodising method to create micro-rough titanium surfaces for enhancing adhesive bonding between titanium alloy and CFRP laminates.A special and simple technique named Resin Pre-Coating(RPC)was also employed to improve the surface wetting of anodised titanium and grinded CFRP *** influences of anodising temperature and duration on the surface morphology,wettability and adhesive bond strength were *** single lap shear test results showed that the bond strength of specimens anodised at 20℃for 15 min improved by 135.9%and 95.4%,respectively,in comparison with that of acid pickled and grinded specimens(without RPC treatment).Although increasing the anodising temperature and duration produced rougher titanium surfaces,the adhesively bonded joints were not strong enough due to relatively friable titanium oxide layers.

Micro-milling technology is widely applied in micro manufacturing,particularly for the fabrication of miniature and micro ***,the chatters and machining dynamics related issues in micro-milling are often the main challenges restricting its machining quality and *** research works have rendered that the machining dynamics and chatters in micro-milling are more complex compared with the conventional macro-milling process,likely because of the size effect and rigidity of the micro-milling system including the tooling,workpiece,process variables,materials involved,and the high-speed milling machines,and further their collective dynamic ***,in this paper,the state of the art focusing on micro-milling chatters and dynamics related issues over the past years are comprehensively and critically reviewed to provide some insights for potential researchers and ***,typical applications and the problems caused by the machining dynamics and chatters in micro-milling have been put forward in this ***,the research on the underlying micro-cutting mechanics and dynamics,stability analysis,chatters detection,and chatter suppression are summarized ***,the underlying scientific and technological challenges are discussed particularly against typical precision engineering ***,the possible future directions and trends in research and development of micro-milling have been discussed.

Model gradient: unified model and policy learning in model-based reinforcement learning

Model-based reinforcement learning is a promising direction to improve the sample efficiency of reinforcement learning with learning a model of the *** model learning methods aim at fitting the transition data,and commonly employ a supervised learning approach to minimize the distance between the predicted state and the real *** supervised model learning methods,however,diverge from the ultimate goal of model learning,i.e.,optimizing the learned-in-the-model *** this work,we investigate how model learning and policy learning can share the same objective of maximizing the expected return in the real *** find model learning towards this objective can result in a target of enhancing the similarity between the gradient on generated data and the gradient on the real *** thus derive the gradient of the model from this target and propose the Model Gradient algorithm(MG)to integrate this novel model learning approach with policy-gradient-based policy *** conduct experiments on multiple locomotion control tasks and find that MG can not only achieve high sample efficiency but also lead to better convergence performance compared to traditional model-based reinforcement learning approaches.

Thermal decomposition mechanism and kinetics of bastnaesite in suspension roasting process:A comparative study in N_(2) and air atmospheres

To investigate the thermal decomposition behavior and reaction kinetics of bastnaesite in suspension roasting,the gas and solid products of bastnaesite roasted in N2 and air atmospheres were examined using a gas analyzer,X-ray diffraction(XRD),scanning electron microscopy(SEM),and energy dispersive spectrometry(EDS).Subsequently,the kinetic parameters of bastnaesite in the suspension roasting process were derived and calculated using the isothermal *** results show that the decomposition product of bastnaesite in N_(2) is ***,once the roasting temperature exceeds 600℃,CO is generated in addition to CO_(2),and all the XRD diffraction peaks of CeOF are shifted to the right,indicating that CO_(2) can oxidize CeOF and lead to the transformation of Ce(Ⅲ) into Ce(Ⅳ).When roasted in air,the decomposition product CeOF can be completely converted to CeF3 and Ce_(7)O_(12) as it easily ***,the reaction rate of bastnaesite in air is higher than that of N_(2),and the starting reaction temperature is lower than that of N_(2).A large number of irregular cracks and holes appear on the surface of solid-phase products following suspension roasting,which are due to the thermal decomposition of bastnaesite that produces CO_(2) as well as the reconstruction of the lattice of the solid-phase *** reaction kinetic model of bastnaesite roasted in N_(2)(temperature range 600-750℃) and air(temperatu re range 500-575℃) confo rms to the A_(3/2) model with the mechanism function G(α)=-ln(1-α)^(2/3),and the reaction activation energy is 59.78 kj/mol and lnA is 1.65 s^(-1) in N_(2) *** air,the reaction activation energy is 100.30 kj/mol and lnA is 9.63 s^(-1).
