Protective effect of curcumin against liver warm ischemia/reperfusion injury in rat model is associated with regulation of heat shock protein and antioxidant enzymes

AIM： To investigate the hypothesis that the protective effects of curcumin in hepatic warm ischemia/reperfusion （I/R） injury are associated with increasing heat shock protein 70 （Hsp70） expression and antioxidant enzyme activity. METHODS： Sixty Sprague-Dawley male rats were randomly divided into sham, I/R, C ＋ I/R groups. The model of reduced-size liver warm ischemia and reperfusion was used. Curcumin （50 mg/kg） was administered by injection through a branch of superior mesenteric vein at 30 min before ischemia in C ＋ I/R group. Five rats were used to investigate the survival during 1 wk after operation in each group. Blood samples and liver tissues were obtained in the remaining animals after 3, 12, and 24 h of reperfusion to assess serum alanine aminotransferase （ALT）, aspartate aminotransferase （AST）, liver tissue NO2- ＋ NO3-, malondialdehyde （MDA） content, superoxide dismutase （SOD）, catalase （CAT）, nitricoxide synthase （NOS） and myeloperoxidase （MPO） activity, HspT0 expression and apoptosis ratio. RESULTS： Compared with I/R group, curcumin pretreatment group showed less ischemia/reperfusioninduced injury. CAT and SOD activity and Hsp70 expression increased significantly. A higher rate of apoptosis was observed in I/R group than in C ＋ I/R group, and a significant increase of MDA, NO2^- ＋ NO3^- and MPO level in liver tissues and serum transaminase concentration was also observed in I/R group compared to C ＋ I/R group. Curcumin also decreased the activity of inducible NO synthase （iNOS） in liver after reperfusion,but had no effect on the level of endothelial NO synthase （eNOS） after reperfusion in liver. The 7 d survival rate was significantly higher in C ＋ I/R group than in I/R group. CONCLUSION： Curcumin has protective effects against hepatic I/R injury. Its mechanism might be related to the overexpression of Hsp70 and antioxidant enzymes.

A simple composite Sr_(1-x)Nd_(x)MnO_(3)(x=0,0.05,0.1,0.15,0.2) nano powders were successfully prepared by the sol-gel method as a light-weight broadband electromagnetic wave *** effect of Nd^(3+)doping on the structure,microstructure and properties of SrMnO_(3) was *** is found that with the doping of Nd^(3+),the space group of the SrMnO_(3) changes from p63/mmc to pm3m,and the crystalline shape starts to change from hexagonal to cubic *** electron microscopy(SEM) and Brunauer-Emmett-Teller(BET) tests confirm that the particle sizes of the sample decrease and the specific surface area increases,which are attributed to the inhibition of grain growth after Nd^(3+)is doped.X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS) shows that after Nd^(3+)doping,the content of oxygen vacancy increases,and Mn^(4+) converts to Mn^(3+).Due to the defects of the materials,the polarization effect is enhanced,thus,the dielectric and magnetic properties of the doped samples are *** maximum reflection loss of the Sr_(0.85)Nd_(0.15)MnO_(3) is-33.41 dB at 7.84 GHz for a thickness of 2.4 mm,while Sr_(0.9)Nd_(0.1)MnO_(3) has the best bandwidth performance at 2.32 GHz with a reflection loss below-10dB.

Interface Design Strategy for GNS/AZ91 Composites with Semi-Coherent Structure

Detection and Genetic Characterization of Rabies Virus from Human Patients

Saliva and blood were collected from two patients who had not received post exposure prophylaxis in the cities of Wenzhou and Xinning respectively. Both patients were confirmed as positive for rabies by detection of rabies virus specific nucleoprotein antibodies in the sera by Western Blot. However, rabies virus specific RNA was only identified in the saliva collected from the patient in Wenzhou. Furthermore, the isolate Zhejiang Wz0 (H) was obtained by inoculating one-day-old suckling mice. Both nucleoprotein (N) and glycoprotein (G) genes from the isolate were amplified by RT-PCR and sequenced. Phylogenetic analysis indicated that the isolate belonged to classic rabies virus, and shared a higher homology with the street viruses from dogs in the main endemic areas in China and the street virus from dogs in Indonesia than with other known strains. Further comparison of the deduced amino acid sequences between the isolate and the vaccine strains used in China showed that the virus had a higher level of homology with the vaccine strain CTN than with the other vaccine strains (3aG, PV, PM and ERA). In particular, amino acid residues substitutions located in antigenic site Ⅲ in the G protein, which could react with the neutralizing antibodies, were observed. These results suggested that the virus belonged to the classic rabies virus, and both N and G genes diverged from the current vaccine strains used in China at either the nucleotide or the amino acid level.

The energy-free purification of trace thallium(I)-contaminated potable water using a high-selective filter paper with multi-layered Prussian blue decoration

Thallium is a highly toxic metal,and trace amount of thallium(I)(Tl+)in potable water could cause a severe water crisis,which arouses the exploitation of highly-effective technology for purification of Tl+contaminated *** report proposes the multi-layered Prussian blue(PB)-decorated composite membranes(PBx@PDA/PEI-FP)based on the aminated filter papers for Tl+*** characterization by Fourier transform infrared spectrometer-attenuated total reflectance,scanning electron microscope,thermogravimetric analysis,X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction were performed to confirm the in situ growth of cubic PB crystals on filter paper membrane surfaces via the aminated layers,and the successful fabrication of multi-layered PB overcoats via the increasing of aminated *** effect of PB layers on Tl+removal by PBx@PDA/PEI-FP from simulated drinking water was evaluated as well as the influence of different experimental conditions.A trade-off between PB decoration layer number and PB distribution sizes is existed in Tl+uptake by PBx@PDA/*** double-layered PB2@PDA/PEI-FP membrane showed the maximum sorption capacity,but its Tl+uptake performance was weakened by the acid,coexisting ions(K+and Na+)and powerful operation pressure,during filtrating a large volume of low-concentrated Tl+-containing ***,the negative effect of coexisting ions on the Tl+uptake could be effectively eliminated in weak alkaline water,and the Tl+removal was increased up to 100%without any pressure driving for PB2@PDA/PEI-FP *** importantly,PB2@PDA/PEI-FP displayed the high-efficiency and high-selectivity in purifying the Tl+-spiked Pearl River water,in which the residual Tl+in filtrate was less than 2μg·L^(–1) to meet the drinking water standard of United States Environmental Protection *** work provides a feasible avenue to safeguard the drinking water in remote and underdeveloped area via the energy-free operation.

Consistent and Accurate TDOA Localization in Dynamic NLOS Environments via Prior Information Independent Estimation

In the time-difference-of-arrival(TDOA)localization,robust least squares(LS)problems solved by mathematical programming were proven to be superior in mitigating the effects of non-line-of-sight(NLOS)***,the existing algorithms still suffer from two disadvantages:1)The algorithms strongly depend on prior information;2)The approaches do not satisfy the mean square error(MSE)optimal criterion of the measurement *** tackle the troubles,we first formulate an MSE minimization model for measurement noise by taking the source and the NLOS biases as *** obtain stable solutions,we introduce a penalty function to avoid abnormal *** further tackle the nonconvex locating problem with semidefinite relaxation ***,we incorporate mixed constraints and variable information to improve the estimation *** and experiments show that the proposed method achieves consistent performance and good accuracy in dynamic NLOS environments.

Deoxynivalenol(DON)is a mycotoxin that is produced by various species of Fusarium and is ubiquitous in food and *** low concentrations,it can cause metabolic disorders in animals and humans and,at high concentrations,it can lead to pathological changes in the *** impact of DON on human/animal health and animal productivity has thus attracted a great deal of attention around the *** causes severe damage to the intestine,including compromised intestinal barrier,mucosal damage,weakened immune function,and alterations in gut microbiota *** effects exacerbate intestinal infections and inflammation in livestock and poultry,posing adverse effects on overall ***,research into biological methods for DON detoxification is a crucial avenue for future *** includes the utilization of adsorption,enzymatic degradation,and other biological approaches to mitigate DON's impact,offering new strategies for prevention and treatment of DON-induced *** research will focus on identifying highly efficient detoxifying microorganisms or enzymes to reduce DON levels in food and feed,thereby mitigating its risks to both animals and human health.
