Donor safety and remnant liver volume in living donor liver transplantation

Influences of Electrolytes on the Soap-free Emulsion Copolymerization of St-MMA-AA

Monodisperse functional polymer microspheres with different particle size and with clean surface were prepared by batch soap-free emulsion polymerization of styrene, methyl methacrylate and acrylic acid in the presence of salts, and the influences of type and amount of electrolytes on polymerization process and particle morphology were investigated. Results showed that there was a critical concentration for different electrolyte to make polymerization process and the resultant emulsion stable, and the particle size increased with the increase of electrolyte concentration. The effect of metal ions was Ca^2＋〉〉K^＋〉Na^＋〉Li^＋, and the effect of haloids was Br〉Cl〉F. Keywords： Electrolyte, soap-free emulsion polymerization, polystyrene, latex particle morphology.

With the theoretical and technological developments related to cratonic strike-slip faults,the Shuntuoguole Low Uplift in the Tarim Basin has attracted considerable attention *** by multi-stage tectonic movements,the strike-slip faults have controlled the distribution of hydrocarbon resources owing to the special fault characteristics and fault-related *** contrast,the kinematics and formation mechanism of strike-slip faults in buried sedimentary basins are difficult to investigate,limiting the discussion of these faults and hydrocarbon *** this study,we identified the characteristics of massive sigmoidal tension gashes(STGs)that formed in the Shunnan area of the Tarim ***-resolution three-dimensional seismic data and attribute analyses were used to investigate their geometric and kinematic ***,the stress state of each point of the STGs was calculated using seismic curvature ***,the formation mechanism of the STGs and their roles in controlling hydrocarbon migration and accumulation were *** results suggest that:(1)the STGs developed in the Shunnan area have a wide distribution,with a tensile fault arranged in an enéchelon pattern,showing an S-shaped *** STGs formed in multiple stages,and differential rotation occurred along the direction of strike-slip stress during formation.(2)Near the principal displacement zone of the strike-slip faults,the stress value of the STGs was higher,gradually decreasing at both *** shallow layer deformation was greater than the deep layer deformation.(3)STGs are critical for connecting source rocks,migrating oil and gas,sealing horizontally,and developing efficient *** study not only provides seismic evidence for the formation and evolution of super large STGs,but also provides certain guidance for oil and gas exploration in this area.

The effects of various factors on spontaneous imbibition in tight oil reservoirs

Slickwater fracturing fluids have gained widespread application in the development of tight oil reservoirs. After the fracturing process, the active components present in slickwater can directly induce spontaneous imbibition within the reservoir. Several variables influence the eventual recovery rate within this procedure, including slickwater composition, formation temperature, degree of reservoir fracture development, and the reservoir characteristics. Nonetheless, the underlying mechanisms governing these influences remain relatively understudied. In this investigation, using the Chang-7 block of the Changqing Oilfield as the study site, we employ EM-30 slickwater fracturing fluid to explore the effects of the drag-reducing agent concentration, imbibition temperature, core permeability, and core fracture development on spontaneous imbibition. An elevated drag-reducing agent concentration is observed to diminish the degree of medium and small pore utilization. Furthermore, higher temperatures and an augmented permeability enhance the fluid flow properties, thereby contributing to an increased utilization rate across all pore sizes. Reduced fracture development results in a lower fluid utilization across diverse pore types. This study deepens our understanding of the pivotal factors affecting spontaneous imbibition in tight reservoirs following fracturing. The findings act as theoretical, technical, and scientific foundations for optimizing fracturing strategies in tight oil reservoir transformations.

Impact of simultaneous splenectomy and orthotopic liver transplantation in patients with end-stage liver diseases and splenic hyperfunction

BACKGROUND:Whether splenectomy can be performed simultaneously during liver transplantation in patients with end-stage liver diseases complicated by hypersplenism remains controversial. This study aimed to compare the impact of simultaneous splenectomy on high-and low-risk liver transplant patients with end-stage liver diseases and severe hypersplenism. METHODS:Forty-two patients with end-stage liver diseases complicated by severe hypersplenism who had undergone orthotopic liver transplantation were enrolled in this study. Splenectomy was performed in 19 of the patients. The 42 patients were grouped according to the risk of liver diseases and operations they received. Patients were considered to be at high-risk if they had at least one of the following conditions: preoperative prothrombin time >5 seconds, portal vein thrombosis, and severe perisplenitis. High-risk patients who had undergone splenectomy were classified into group A, whereas high-risk patients who had not undergone splenectomy were classified into group B. Low-risk patients who had undergone splenectomy were classified into group C, and low-risk patients who had spleen preservation were classified into group D. Operative time, intraoperative blood loss, postoperative bleeding, pulmonary infection, perioperative mortality, and postoperative platelet recovery were analyzed. RESULTS: Operative time and intraoperative blood loss were greater in group A than in groups B-D (P0.05). In group A, 3 patients had postoperative bleeding, 5 had pulmonary infection, and 2 had perioperative mortality,which was higher than any other group, but postoperative bleeding, pulmonary infection, and perioperative mortality were similar to those in groups C and D. Protective effect of glucocorticoid-free immunosuppressive regimen in allogenic islet transplantation

BACKGROUND: The most common complication after allogenic islet transplantation is rejection. This study was to evaluate the effect of anti-rejection of glucocorticoid-free immunosuppressive regimen on allogenic islet transplantation. METHODS: Tacrolimus(FK506)+mycophenolate mofetil (MMF) and FK506+MMF+prednisone (Pred) were administered respectively for 2 weeks to inhibit rejection after allogenic islet transplantation in rats, which were compared with the control group. The concentrations of blood glucose, insulin and C-peptide were determined dynamically in recipients and the sites of transplantation were observed morphologically. RESULTS: As compared with the control group without immunosuppressive agents, FK506+MMF and FK506+MMF+Pred could prolong the survival time of grafts significantly. There were many morphologically intact islets in the liver of recipients 2 months after transplantation. Group FK506+MMF kept normal levels of blood glucose, insulin and C-peptide beyond 60 days after transplantation. In contrast, group FK506+MMF+Pred secreted less C-peptide(P<0.05) and maintained a higher level of blood glucose concentration (P<0.01) after the operation. There was no significant difference in insulin concentrations between the two groups. The level of blood glucose beyond the first 2 weeks after drug withdrawal in group FK506+MMF+Pred decreased obviously (P<0.05), and the secretion of insulin　and C-peptide increased. These results were compared with　those the first 2 weeks after transplantation and the first 2　weeks after drug withdrawal. CONCLUSIONS: Both regimens of FK506+MMF and FK506+MMF+Pred could provide effective immunosup-pression. Moreover the combined glucocorticoid-free immunosuppressive strategy of low-dose FK506 and MMF could protect islet grafts in islet transplantation without diabetogenic side-effects.

Implication of Water-Rock Interaction for Enhancing Shale Gas Production

Horizontal well drilling and multi-stage hydraulic fracturing technologies are at the root of commercial shale gas development and *** these processes,typically,a large amount of working fluid enters the formation,resulting in widespread water-rock *** understanding such effects is required to optimize the production *** this study,the mechanisms of water-rock interaction and the associated responses of shale fabric are systematically reviewed for working fluids such as neutral fluids,acid fluids,alkali fluids and oxidative *** is shown that shale is generally rich in water-sensitive components such as clay minerals,acidsensitive components(like carbonate minerals),alkali-sensitive components(like quartz),oxidative-sensitive components(like organic matter and pyrite),which easily lead to change of rock fabric and mechanical properties owing to water-rock *** to the results,oxidizing acid fluids and oxidizing fracturing fluids should be used to enhance shale gas *** study also indicates that an aspect playing an important role in increasing cumulative gas production is the optimization of the maximum shut-in time based on the change point of the wellhead pressure drop *** important influential factor to be considered is the control of the wellhead pressure considering the stress sensitivity and creep characteristics of the fracture network.
