Analysis of large deformation geotechnical problems using implicit generalized interpolation material point method

This paper presents a quasi-static implicit generalized interpolation material point method(i GIMP)with B-bar approach for large deformation geotechnical *** i GIMP algorithm is an extension of the implicit material point method(iMPM).The global stiffness matrix is formed explicitly and the Newton-Raphson iterative method is used to solve the equilibrium *** possible,the implementation procedure closely follows standard finite element method(FEM)approaches to allow easy conversion of other FEM *** generalized interpolation function is assigned to eliminate the inherent cell crossing noise within conventional *** the first time,the B-bar approach is used to overcome volumetric locking in standard GIMP method for near-incompressible non-linear *** proposed i GIMP was tested and compared with i MPM and analytical solutions via a 1 D column compression *** highlighted the superiority of the i GIMP approach in reducing stress oscillations,thereby improving computational ***,elasto-plastic slope stabilities and rigid footing problems were considered,further illustrating the ability of the proposed method to overcome volumetric locking due to *** showed that the proposed i GIMP with B-bar approach can be used to simulate geotechnical problems with large deformations.

A new three-dimensional(3D)cellular model based on hinging open-cell Kelvin structure is proposed for its negative compressibility *** is shown that this model has adjustable compressibility and does exhibit negative compressibility for some certain *** further study shows that the images of compressibility are symmetrical about the certain lines,which indicates that the mechanical properties of the model in the three axial directions are interchangeable and the model itself has a certain geometric symmetry.A comparison of the Kelvin model with its anisotropic form with the dodecahedron model shows that the Kelvin model has stronger negative compressibility property in all three ***,a new and potential method to improve negative compressibility property can be derived by selecting the system type with lower symmetry and increasing the number of geometric parameters.

Comparison of the ability of wavelet index and bispectral index for reflecting regain of consciousness in patients undergone surgery

Background Wavelet index （WLI） is a new parameter for monitoring depth of anesthesia based on Wavelet analysis. We observed the change of WLI and bispectral index （BIS） in patients regain of consciousness （ROC） in the absence of frontalis electromyographic （EMG） interference. The aim of this study was to compare the ability of WLI and BIS for reflecting ROC in patients undergone surgery. Methods Twelve patients who were scheduled for maxillofacial surgeries were enrolled in the study. BIS and WLI values were monitored continually. After being given midazolam and remifentanil, patients were asked to squeeze the investigator＇s hand ever 30 seconds. Patients were continuously given propofol until loss of consciousness （LOC1）. Tunstalrs isolated forearm technique was used to test the surgical consciousness in patients. After total muscle relaxation endotracheal intubations were performed, and the patients were connected to a ventilator. Then, propofol was withdrawn until the patients showed regain of consciousness （ROC1） and an awareness reaction. After the command test, patients were readministered with propofol until loss of consciousness （LOC2）. After surgery, all of the sedatives were withdrawn, and the patients were let to regain consciousness （ROC2）, Results The BIS values of twelve patients at ROC1 after using muscle relaxant were much lower than those at LOC1 and ROC2 without using muscle relaxant, showing statistical significance （P 〈0.05）. Meanwhile, the WLI values of twelve patients at ROC1 after using muscle relaxant were much higher than those at LOC1 and equal to ROC2 without using muscle relaxant, showing statistical significances （P 〈0.05） between ROC1 and LOCI. Conclusions This study showed that under muscle relaxation or facial paralysis, when there is no EMG signal, BIS can not accurately reflect regain of consciousness in surgical patients, but WLI can reflect it accurately. So WLI may have advantages for reflecting state of consciousness in surgical

FLOW PAST TWO ROTATING CIRCULAR CYLINDERS IN A SIDE-BY-SIDE ARRANGEMENT

Measurements were performed using Particle Image Velocimetry （PIV） to analyze the modification of flow by the combined effects of the rotation and the Reynolds number on the flow past two rotating circular cylinders in a side-by-side-arrangement at a range of 425 〈 Re ≤ 1130,0 ≤α ≤4 （ α is the rotational speed） at one gap spacing of T / d = 1.11 （T and d are the distance between the centers of two cylinders and the cylinder diameter, respectively）. A new Immersed-Lattice Boltzmann Method （ILBM） scheme was used to study the effect of the gap spacing on the flow. The results show that the vortex shedding is suppressed as rotational speed increases. The flow reaches a steady state when the vortex shedding for both cylinders is completely suppressed at critical rotational speed. As the rotational speed further increases, the separation phenomenon in the boundary layers disappears at the attachment rotational speed. The critical rotational speed and attachment rotational speed become small as Reynolds number increases. The absolute rotational speed of cylinders should be large at same critical rotational speed and attachment rotational speed in the case of large Reynolds number. The gap spacing has an important role in changing the pattern of vortex shedding. It is very different in the mechanism of vortex shedding suppression for the flows around two rotating cylinders and single rotating cylinder.

High Q,high frequency,high overtone bulk acoustic resonator with ZnO films

Bulk acoustic wave resonators with piezoelectric films have been widely explored for the small size and high quality factor （Q） at GHz. This paper describes a high overtone bulk acoustic resonator （HBAR） based on AI/ZnO/AI sandwich layers and c-axis sapphire substrate. ZnO film with high quality c-axis orientation has been obtained using DC magnetron sputtering. The fabricated HBAR presents high Q at the multiple resonances from a 0.5-4.0 GHz wide band with a total size （including the contact pads） of 0.6 mm×0.3 mm×0.4 mm, The device exhibits the best acoustic coupling at around 2.4 GHz, which agrees with the simulation results based on the one-dimensional Mason equivalent circuit model. The HBAR also demonstrates Q values of 30 000, 25 000, and 6500 at 1.49, 2.43, and 3.40 GHz, respectively. It is indicated that the HBAR has potential applications for the low phase noise high frequency oscillator or microwave signal source.

Effects of content and particle size of TiH2 powders on the energy output rules of RDX composite explosives

In order to improve the detonation characteristics of RDX,a RDX-based composite explosive with TiH_(2)powders was *** effects of content and particle size of TiH_(2)powders on thermal safety,shock wave parameters and thermal damage effects of RDX-based composite explosive were studied with the C80 microcalorimeter,air blast experiment system and colorimetric thermometry *** results showed that TiH_(2)powders could enhance the thermal stability of RDX-based composite explosive and increase its ultimate decomposition *** content and particle size of TiH_(2)powders also had significant effects on the thermal safety,detonation velocity,shock wave parameters,fireball temperature and duration of RDX-based composite ***,the differences of TiH_(2)and Ti powders on the detonation energy output rules of RDX-based composite explosives were also compared,showing that TiH_(2)powders had better influences on improving the explosion power and thermal damage effect of RDX-based composite explosives than Ti powders,for the participation of free H_(2)released by TiH_(2)powders in the detonation ***_(2)powders have important research values as a novel energetic additive in the field of military composite explosives.

Planning of DC Electric Spring with Particle Swarm Optimization and Elitist Non-dominated Sorting Genetic Algorithm

This paper addresses the planning problem of parallel DC electric springs (DCESs). DCES, a demand-side management method, realizes automatic matching of power consumption and power generation by adjusting non-critical load (NCL) and internal storage. It can offer higher power quality to critical load (CL), reduce power imbalance and relieve pressure on energy storage systems (RESs). In this paper, a planning method for parallel DCESs is proposed to maximize stability gain, economic benefits, and penetration of RESs. The planning model is a master optimization with sub-optimization to highlight the priority of objectives. Master optimization is used to improve stability of the network, and sub-optimization aims to improve economic benefit and allowable penetration of RESs. This issue is a multivariable nonlinear mixed integer problem, requiring huge calculations by using common solvers. Therefore, particle Swarm optimization (PSO) and Elitist non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm (NSGA-II) were used to solve this model. Considering uncertainty of RESs, this paper verifies effectiveness of the proposed planning method on IEEE 33-bus system based on deterministic scenarios obtained by scenario analysis.

Design strategy and relevant flow mechanisms of highly loaded 3D compressor tandem cascades

To investigate the design strategy of highly loaded tandem cascades at both the midspan and endwall,the overall performance and flow mechanisms of four typical tandem cascades based on the optimization were analyzed from multiple perspectives *** results show that the interference effects on the Front Blade(FB)and Rear Blade(RB)should not be overlooked during the design phase,and the design strategies at the midspan and endwall are completely *** the midspan,the optimization aims to increase the interference effects and the strength of the gap jet while maintaining the same load on the FB and ***,the endwall optimal airfoil exhibits weakening interference effects,advancement of the gap jet location,and load transfer from the FB to *** further analysis of flow characteristics,the midspan optimal airfoil is beneficial for inhibiting the low-energy fluid from interacting with the suction surface of RB under the design condition,but results in earlier occurrence of corner *** endwall optimal airfoil helps suppress the development of the secondary flow and delay the onset of corner ***,by combining the benefits of these two design approaches,additional forward sweep effects are achieved,further enhancing the performance of the tandem cascade.

Detection and Location of a Target in Layered Media without Prior Knowledge of Medium Parameters

Without prior knowledge of medium parameters,a method is proposed to detect and locate a target in layered *** were carried out for liquid/liquid and solid/liquid layered media,and the location of a target in them was obtained using three methods combined,i.e.,the least-square method,the method of finding minimum dispersal degree of target distribution,and the snapshot time reversal and reverse time migration mixed *** medium parameters,i.e.,the acoustic velocities of upper and lower media as well as the thickness of the upper medium,were inversed *** results show that the position of target is consistent with its actual ***,the detection and location of a target in layered media are achieved without prior knowledge of medium parameters,and it overcomes the difficulty that the common time reversal method only detects the target,but cannot locate it.
