Inner damage identification and residual strength assessment of a 3D printed tunnel with marble-like cementitious materials using piezoelectric transducers

Quantitative damage identification of surrounding rock is important to assess the current condition and residual strength of underground tunnels.In this work,an underground tunnel model with marble-like cementitious materials was first fabricated using the three-dimensional(3D)printing technique and then loaded to simulate its failure mode in the laboratory.Lead zirconate titanate piezoelectric(PZT)transducers were embedded in the surrounding rock around the tunnel in the process of 3D printing.A 3D monitoring network was formed to locate damage areas and evaluate damage extent during loading.Results show that as the load increased,main cracks firstly appeared above the tunnel roof and below the floor,and then they coalesced into the tunnel boundary.Finally,the tunnel model was broken into several parts.The resonant frequency and the peak of the conductance signature firstly shifted rightwards with loading due to the sealing of microcracks,and then shifted backwards after new cracks appeared.An overall increase in the root-mean-square deviation(RMSD)calculated from conductance signatures of all the PZT transducers was observed as the load(damage)increased.Damage-dependent equivalent stiffness parameters(ESPs)were calculated from the real and imaginary signatures of each PZT at different damage states.Satisfactory agreement between equivalent and experimental ESP values was achieved.Also,the relationship between the change of the ESP and the residual strength was obtained.The method paves the way for damage identification and residual strength estimation of other 3D printed structures in civil engineering.

Heteroatom dopant strategy triggered high-potential plateau to non-graphitized carbon with highly disordered microstructure for high-performance sodium ion storage

Non-graphitized carbon(NGC)has been extensively utilized as carbonaceous anode in sodium-ion batteries(SIBs).However,more optimization to achieve competitive capacity and stability is still challenging for SIBs.In the study,the dopant strategy is utilized to construct nitrogen/sulfur-doped non-graphitized carbon(N-NGC or S-NGC)shell decorated on three-dimensional graphene foam(GF)as a self-support electrode.The highly disordered microstructures of heteroatom doped carbons are produced by applying a low-temperature pyrolysis treatment to precursors containing nitrogen and sulfur.The DFT calculations of Na-ion adsorption energies at diverse heteroatom sites show marginal-S,pyrrolic N and pyridinic N with more intensive Na-ion adsorption ability than middle-S,C=O and pristine carbon.The N-NGC with dominant small graphitic regions delivers adsorption ability to Na-ion,while the S-NGC with significant single carbon lattice stripes demonstrates redox reaction with Na-ion.Evidently,in comparison with only adsorption-driven slope regions at high potential for N-NGC,the redox reaction-generated potentialplateau enables non-graphitized S-NGC superior discharge/charge capacity and cycle-stability in the slope region.This work could provide deep insight into the rational design of non-graphitized carbon with rich microstructure and composition.

A novel proactive soft load balancing framework for ultra dense network

A major challenge for the future wireless network is to design the self-organizing architecture.The reactive self-organizing model of traditional networks needs to be transformed into an active self-organizing network.Due to the user mobility and the coverage of small cells,the network load often becomes unbalanced,resulting in poor network performance.Mobility management has become an important issue to ensure seamless communication when users move between cells,and proactive mobility management is one of the important functions of the active Self-Organizing Network(SON).This paper proposes a proactive mobility management framework for active SON,which transforms the original reactive load balancing into a forward-aware and proactive load balancing.The proposed framework firstly uses the BART model to predict the users’temporal and spatial mobility based on a weekly cycle and then formulate the MLB optimization problem based on the soft load.Two solutions are proposed to solve the above MLB problem.The simulation results show that the proposed method can better optimize the network performance and realize intelligent mobile management for the future network.

Intensive care unit-acquired weakness(ICU-AW)is a common complication in critically ill patients and is associated with a variety of adverse outcomes.These include the need for prolonged mechanical ventilation and ICU stay;higher ICU,in-hospital,and 1-year mortality;and increased in-hospital costs.ICU-AW is associated with multiple risk factors including age,underlying disease,severity of illness,organ failure,sepsis,immobilization,receipt of mechanical ventilation,and other factors related to critical care.The pathological mechanism of ICUAW remains unclear and may be considerably varied.This review aimed to evaluate recent insights into ICU-AW from several aspects including risk factors,pathophysiology,diagnosis,and treatment strategies;this provides new perspectives for future research.

A Novel Hybrid Point Defect of Oxygen Vacancy and Phosphorus Doping in TiO_(2)Anode for High-Performance Sodium Ion Capacitor

Although sodium ion capacitors(SICs)are considered as one of the most promising electrochemical energy storage devices(organic electrolyte batteries,aqueous batteries and supercapacitor,etc.)due to the combined merits of battery and capacitor,the slow reaction kinetics and low specific capacity of anode materials are the main challenges.Point defects including vacancies and heteroatoms doping have been widely used to improve the kinetics behavior and capacity of anode materials.However,the interaction between vacancies and heteroatoms doping have been seldomly investigated.In this study,a hybrid point defects(HPD)engineering has been proposed to synthesize TiO_(2) with both oxygen vacancies(OVs)and P-dopants(TiO_(2)/C-HPD).In comparison with sole OVs or P-doping treatments,the synergistic effects of HPD on its electrical conductivity and sodium storage performance have been clarified through the density func-tional theory calculation and sodium storage characterization.As expected,the kinetics and electronic conductivity of TiO_(2)/C-HPD3 are significantly improved,resulting in excellent rate performance and outstanding cycle stability.Moreover,the SICs assembled from TiO_(2)/C-HPD3 anode and nitrogen-doped porous carbon cathode show outstanding power/energy density,ultra-long life with good capacity retention.This work provides a novel point defect engineering perspective for the development of high-performance SICs electrode materials.

Circadian rhythms are natural rhythms that widely exist in all creatures,and regulate the processes and physiological functions of various biochemical reactions.The circadian clock is critical for cancer occurrence and progression.Its function is regulated by metabolic activities,and the expression and transcription of various genes.This review summarizes the composition of the circadian clock;the biological basis for its function;its relationship with,and mechanisms in,cancer;its various functions in different cancers;the effects of anti-tumor treatment;and potential therapeutic targets.Research in this area is expected to advance understanding of circadian locomotor output cycles kaput(CLOCK)and brain and muscle ARNT-like protein 1(BMAL1)in tumor diseases,and contribute to the development of new anti-tumor treatment strategies.

Pair density wave facilitated by Bloch quantum geometry in nearly flat band multiorbital superconductors

Bloch electrons in multiorbital systems carry quantum geometric information characteristic of their wavevector-dependent interorbital mixing.The geometric nature impacts electromagnetic responses,and this effect carries over to the superconducting state,which receives a geometric contribution to the superfluid weight.In this paper,we show that this contribution could become negative under certain appropriate circumstances.This may facilitate the stabilization of Cooper pairings with real space phase modulation,i.e.,the pair density wave order,as we demonstrate through two-orbital model Bogoliubov de-Gennes mean-field calculations.The quantum geometric effect therefore constitutes an intrinsic mechanism for the formation of such a novel phase of matter in the absence of external magnetic field.

Factors influencing physician's behavioral intention to use Traditional Chinese Medicine to treat coronavirus disease 2019 based on the theory of planned behavior

OBJECTIVE:To explore the factors influencing physicians’intentions to use Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM)to treat coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19).METHODS:A cross-sectional,self-report online survey was conducted from March 16,2020,to April 2,2020,in China.Participants were recruited through convenience and snowball sampling.Data were collected by using a self-designed questionnaire based on the Theory of Planned Behavior.Structural equation modeling was used for data analysis.RESULTS:A total of 494 physicians were enrolled in this study.Overall,the model explained 75.4%and 75.5%of the total variance in intention and attitude,respectively.Specifically,attitudes(β=0.467,P<0.001),past behavior(β=0.384,P<0.05),subjective norms(SN)(β=0.177,P<0.001),and perceived behavioral control(PBC)(β=0.133,P<0.05)significantly affected physicians’intention to use TCM.Cognition(β=0.606,P<0.001)and PBC(β=0.569,P<0.01)significantly influenced physicians’attitudes toward using TCM.SN(β=0.064,P=0.263)was not a factor affecting attitude.CONCLUSION:Physicians’intention to use TCM was significantly associated with attitude,past behavior,PBC,and SN.The findings may not only be useful for understanding the influencing factors and paths of physicians’intention to use TCM to treat COVID-19 but also provide a reference for health authorities and policymakers to promote physicians to utilize TCM.

A novel negative quantum capacitance field-effect transistor with molybdenum disulfide integrated gate stack and steep subthreshold swing for ultra-low power applications

Various steep-slope devices based on novel structures and mechanisms garnered considerable attention for their potential in ultra-low power logic applications. In this work, a novel steep-slope negative quantum capacitance field-effect transistor(NQCFET)with molybdenum disulfide(MoS2)-integrated gate stack was realized by theoretical analysis and experimental evaluation. By combining the MoS+2 equivalent capacitance model calibrated with experimental results, the NQCFET device model is further established.The results demonstrated that the optimized MoS2-integrated NQCFET can achieve a subthreshold swing(SS)of sub-60 mV/dec over a current range of 5 decades, with the minimum SS reaching 29 mV/dec,indicating the remarkable potential of MoS2-integrated NQCFETs for ultra-low power applications.

Obesity has become a major health crisis in the past∼50 years.The fat mass and obesity-associated(FTO)gene,identified by genome-wide association studies(GWAS),was first reported to be positively associated with obesity in humans.Mice with more copies of the FTO gene were observed to be obese,while loss of the gene in mice was found to protect from obesity.Later,FTO was found to encode an m6 A RNA demethylase and has a profound effect on many biological and metabolic processes.In this review,we first summarize recent studies that demonstrate the critical roles and regulatory mechanisms of FTO in obesity and metabolic disease.Second,we discuss the ongoing debates concerning the association between FTO polymorphisms and obesity.Third,since several small molecule drugs and micronutrients have been found to regulate metabolic homeostasis through controlling the expression or activity of FTO,we highlight the broad potential of targeting FTO for obesity treatment.Improving our understanding of FTO and the underlying mechanisms may provide new approaches for treating obesity and metabolic diseases.
