Enhancement of motor functional recovery in thoracic spinal cord injury: voluntary wheel running versus forced treadmill exercise

Spinal cord injury necessitates effective rehabilitation strategies, with exercise therapies showing promise in promoting recovery. This study investigated the impact of rehabilitation exercise on functional recovery and morphological changes following thoracic contusive spinal cord injury. After a 7-day recovery period after spinal cord injury, mice were assigned to either a trained group(10 weeks of voluntary running wheel or forced treadmill exercise) or an untrained group. Bi-weekly assessments revealed that the exercise-trained group, particularly the voluntary wheel exercise subgroup, displayed significantly improved locomotor recovery, more plasticity of dopaminergic and serotonin modulation compared with the untrained group. Additionally, exercise interventions led to gait pattern restoration and enhanced transcranial magnetic motor-evoked potentials. Despite consistent injury areas across groups, exercise training promoted terminal innervation of descending axons. In summary, voluntary wheel exercise shows promise for enhancing outcomes after thoracic contusive spinal cord injury, emphasizing the role of exercise modality in promoting recovery and morphological changes in spinal cord injuries. Our findings will influence future strategies for rehabilitation exercises, restoring functional movement after spinal cord injury.

Dual-phase coexistence enables to alleviate resistance drift in phase-change films

The amorphous phase-change materials with spontaneous structural relaxation leads to the resistance drift with the time for phase-change neuron synaptic devices. Here, we modify the phase change properties of the conventional Ge_2Sb_2Te_5(GST) material by introducing an SnS phase. It is found that the resistance drift coefficient of SnS-doped GST was decreased from 0.06 to 0.01. It can be proposed that the origin originates from the precipitation of GST nanocrystals accompanied by the precipitation of SnS crystals compared to single-phase GST compound systems. We also found that the decrease in resistance drift can be attributed to the narrowed bandgap from 0.65 to 0.43 eV after SnS-doping. Thus, this study reveals the quantitative relationship between the resistance drift and the band gap and proposes a new idea for alleviating the resistance drift by composition optimization, which is of great significance for finding a promising phase change material.

0 INTRODUCTION To relieve the short supply of suitable land for residing,cultivating,and commerce,it is accepted to reclaim land from lakes,river estuaries,and coastal regions in many countries(Mancini et al.,2020).The large-scale reclamation activities have an irreversible effect on the mico-geomorphology and hydrodynamic system of seasonally flooded areas(Zhang et al.,2019;Yu et al.,2018).For example,coastal regions reclaimed extended the groundwater flow paths,as well as created groundwater level rise,resulting in water-logging in the reclaimed area(Hu et al.,2008).Similar changes in groundwater flow systems may alter groundwater-lake water interactions,and it can ultimately affect the water cycle in the lake areas.However,such detailed studies are presently lacking.In addition,natural exchanges between the lake and groundwater systems can be strongly affected by physical hydrological processes(Javadzadeh et al.,2020),chemical properties(Kamtchueng et al.,2015),and bioto behavior(Hancock et al.,2005).

Effect of microstructure on lipolysis behavior of milk fat globules during gastrointestinal digestion

Milk fat globules (MFG) are the primary source of energy and functional factor in dairy-based products. To evaluate the suitability of commercial MFG substitutes for infant and adult consumers， the lipolysis properties and regulatory factors in digesting bovine， caprine， and human MFG were compared. The lipolysis kinetic models of bovine and caprine MFG are comparable， with bovine MFG displaying the highest degree of lipolysis (50.21%) during gastric digestion in infants， resulting in the production short-chain saturated fatty acids. Caprine MFG has a high rate of lipolysis due to its weak phospholipid-glycoprotein layer， which is prominent in both infants’ and adults’ digestion. The effects of consuming bovine and caprine MFG for adults are comparable in terms of lipolysis properties and nutritional value of fatty acid. After gastrointestinal digestion， human MFG has the highest digestibility (93.98%). The advantages of human MFG include its phospholipid structure， exogenous lipase， and lipolysis-regulating proteins. This study provides recommendation for the selection of milk fat substitutes and improvements in commercial dairy.

Krill oil attenuates obesity-induced skeletal muscle atrophy in mice

Obesity is associated with skeletal muscle mass loss and physical dysfunction. Krill oil (KO) has been shown to be beneficial in human health. However， the effect of KO on obesity-induced skeletal muscle atrophy is still unclear. In this study， the male C57BL/6J mice were fed a high-fat diet (HFD) for 12 weeks to induce obesity， and then were intragastric administration with 400 mg/kg bw KO for an additional 6 weeks. The results showed that KO treatment reduced body weight， fat accumulation and serum pro-inflammatory cytokines in HFD-induced obese mice. Importantly， KO treatment attenuated skeletal muscle atrophy in HFD-fed mice， as evidenced by preserving skeletal muscle mass， average myofiber cross-sectional area and grip strength. KO administration also mitigated obesity-induced ectopic lipid deposition and inflammatory response in skeletal muscle. Additionally， KO treatment inhibited the transcriptional activities of nuclear factor-kappa B (NF-κB) p65 and forkhead box O 3a (FoxO3a)， and then down-regulated muscle atrophy F-box (MAFbx) and muscle-specific RING finger protein 1 (MuRF1) protein levels in skeletal muscle from HFD-fed mice. KO administration also improved obesity-induced impaired muscle protein synthesis via activating PI3K/Akt pathway. Furthermore， KO treatment enhanced muscle mitochondrial biogenesis in HFD-induced obese mice via activating PGC-1α pathway. Collectively， KO might be developed as a potential nutritional supplement for the prevention and treatment of obesity-induced skeletal muscle atrophy.

The scope of stereochemistry recognition usually occurs near the chiral scaffold of a ligand or catalyst.Remote stereocontrol,which can surpass the limits of stereorecognition of remote prochiral centers,has long been a challenging object of great interest in asymmetric catalysis.The current work realized the remote stereocontrol of 1,7-zwitterion intermediates formed from Huang's o-amino aryl MBH carbonates.With simple and easily accessibleβ-ICD as the bifunctional catalyst,multifunctionalized tetrahydroquinoline derivatives could be synthesized via(4+2)cycloadditions with excellent enantioselectivity and diastereoselectivity under mild conditions.The strategy possesses broad substrate scope,and three types of electron-deficient enones are successfully applied.Mechanistic studies disclosed the Lewis base-catalyzed reaction pathway,and H-bonding between the catalyst and enones is crucial for long-range stereocontrol.Scale-up reaction and transformations of the tetrahydroquinoline products demonstrated the potential of this strategy.

Fault Diagnosis Scheme for Railway Switch Machine Using Multi-Sensor Fusion Tensor Machine

Railway switch machine is essential for maintaining the safety and punctuality of train operations.A data-driven fault diagnosis scheme for railway switch machine using tensor machine and multi-representation monitoring data is developed herein.Unlike existing methods,this approach takes into account the spatial information of the time series monitoring data,aligning with the domain expertise of on-site manual monitoring.Besides,a multi-sensor fusion tensor machine is designed to improve single signal data’s limitations in insufficient information.First,one-dimensional signal data is preprocessed and transformed into two-dimensional images.Afterward,the fusion feature tensor is created by utilizing the images of the three-phase current and employing the CANDE-COMP/PARAFAC(CP)decomposition method.Then,the tensor learning-based model is built using the extracted fusion feature tensor.The developed fault diagnosis scheme is valid with the field three-phase current dataset.The experiment indicates an enhanced performance of the developed fault diagnosis scheme over the current approach,particularly in terms of recall,precision,and F1-score.

A novel method for atomization energy prediction based on natural-parameter network

Atomization energy(AE)is an important indicator for measuring material stability and reactivity,which refers to the energy change when a polyatomic molecule decomposes into its constituent atoms.Predicting AE based on the structural information of molecules has been a focus of researchers,but existing methods have limitations such as being time-consuming or requiring complex preprocessing and large amounts of training data.Deep learning(DL),a new branch of machine learning(ML),has shown promise in learning internal rules and hierarchical representations of sample data,making it a potential solution for AE prediction.To address this problem,we propose a natural-parameter network(NPN)approach for AE prediction.This method establishes a clearer statistical interpretation of the relationship between the network’s output and the given data.We use the Coulomb matrix(CM)method to represent each compound as a structural information matrix.Furthermore,we also designed an end-to-end predictive model.Experimental results demonstrate that our method achieves excellent performance on the QM7 and BC2P datasets,and the mean absolute error(MAE)obtained on the QM7 test set ranges from 0.2 kcal/mol to 3 kcal/mol.The optimal result of our method is approximately an order of magnitude higher than the accuracy of 3 kcal/mol in published works.Additionally,our approach significantly accelerates the prediction time.Overall,this study presents a promising approach to accelerate the process of predicting structures using DL,and provides a valuable contribution to the field of chemical energy prediction.

Clinical Effect of Yinhuang Qingfei Capsules in Treatment of Asymptomatic and Mild/Common Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 Infection:An Analysis of 242 Cases

[Objectives]To investigate the clinical effect of Yinhuang Qingfei capsules in the treatment of asymptomatic and mild/common severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2)infection.[Methods]A total of 362 patients with SARS-CoV-2 infection were divided into the treatment group with 242 patients and control group with 120 patients according to their treatment regimen.The patients in the control group were given standard treatment regimen and those in the treatment group were given Yinhuang Qingfei capsules in addition to the treatment in the control group.The two groups were observed in terms of average length of hospital stay,mean time for nucleic acid clearance,TCM syndrome score,and progression to severe/critical illness,and clinical outcome was compared between the two groups.[Results]There was a significant difference in the overall response rate between the treatment group and the control group[97.52%(236/242)vs 95.00%(114/120),P<0.05].Compared with the control group,the treatment group had significantly shorter length of hospital stay and time for nucleic acid clearance(P<0.05).After 7 days of treatment,both groups had a significant change in TCM syndrome score,and there was a significant difference in TCM syndrome score between the two groups(P<0.05);after 15 days of treatment,both groups had a TCM syndrome score of 0.Progression to severe/critical illness was not observed in either group.[Conclusions]Compared with the standard treatment regimen alone,standard treatment regimen combined with Yinhuang Qingfei capsules can effectively shorten the length of hospital stay and time for nucleic acid clearance and improve TCM symptoms in patients with asymptomatic and mild/common SARS-CoV-2 infection.
