Super-resolution vibrational microscopy by stimulated Raman excited fluorescence

Inspired by the revolutionary impact of super-resolution fluorescence microscopy,super-resolution Raman imaging has been long pursued because of its much higher chemical specificity than the fluorescence ***,vibrational contrasts are intrinsically less sensitive compared with fluorescence,resulting in only mild resolution enhancement beyond the diffraction limit even with strong laser excitation *** such,it is still a great challenge to achieve biocompatible super-resolution vibrational imaging in the optical *** 2019 Stimulated Raman Excited Fluorescence(SREF)was discovered as an ultrasensitive vibrational spectroscopy that combines the high chemical specificity of Raman scattering and the superb sensitivity of fluorescence *** we developed a novel super-resolution vibrational imaging method by harnessing SREF as the contrast *** first identified the undesired role of anti-Stokes fluorescence background in preventing direct adoption of super-resolution fluorescence *** then devised a frequency-modulation(FM)strategy to remove the broadband backgrounds and achieved high-contrast SREF *** by newly synthesized SREF dyes,we realized multicolor FM-SREF imaging with nanometer spectral ***,by integrating stimulated emission depletion(STED)with background-free FM-SREF,we accomplished high-contrast super-resolution vibrational imaging with STED-FM-SREF whose spatial resolution is only determined by the signal-to-noise *** our proof-of-principle demonstration,more than two times of resolution improvement is achieved in biological systems with moderate laser excitation power,which shall be further refined with optimized instrumentation and imaging *** its super resolution,high sensitivity,vibrational contrast,and mild laser excitation power,STED-FM-SREF microscopy is envisioned to aid a wide variety of applications.

Dear Editor, Phenotypic drug discovery, which observes compound effects on physiology,has given way to targeting specific molecules, but has revived by using modern methods to find drugs based on therapeutic outcomes in disease models(Vincent et al., 2022). Osteoarthritis(OA) is a prevalent chronic joint disorder, primarily affecting knee joints, with osteoclast activation due to low-grade inflammation resulting in increased bone resorption and structural changes in the joint(Katz et al.,2021).

Low-temperature chlorination roasting technology for the simultaneous recovery of valuable metals from spent LiCoO_(2)cathode material

With the continuous increase in the disposal volume of spent lithium-ion batteries(LIBs),properly recycling spent LIBs has become essential for the advancement of the circular *** study presents a systematic analysis of the chlorination roasting kinetics and proposes a new two-step chlorination roasting process that integrates thermodynamics for the recycling of LIB cathode *** activation energy for the chloride reaction was 88.41 kJ/mol according to thermogravimetric analysis–derivative thermogravimetry data obtained by using model-free,model-fitting,and Z(α)function(αis conversion rate).Results indicated that the reaction was dominated by the first-order(F1)model when the conversion rate was less than or equal to 0.5 and shifted to the second-order(F2)model when the conversion rate exceeded *** conditions were determined by thoroughly investigating the effects of roasting temperature,roasting time,and the mass ratio of NH_(4)Cl to LiCoO_(2).Under the optimal conditions,namely 400℃,20 min,and NH_(4)Cl/LiCoO_(2)mass ratio of 3:1,the leaching efficiency of Li and Co reached 99.43% and 99.05%,*** of the roasted products revealed that valuable metals in LiCoO_(2)transformed into CoCl_(2) and ***,the reaction mechanism was elucidated,providing insights for the establishment of a novel low-temperature chlorination roasting technology based on a crystal structure *** technology can guide the development of LIB recycling processes with low energy consumption,low secondary pollution,high recovery efficiency,and high added value.

Is the Cape Stone Forest in Shantou City formed by wave erosion? A comparison of the pedestal rocks on the coasts and the mountains of Queshi in eastern Guangdong, China

Cape Stone Forest is a group of granite rock pillars(pedestal rocks) towering over Shilin Lake, on the southern shore of Shantou Bay in eastern Guangdong, China. The rock pillars were previously identified as sea stacks because they have marine notch-like concave sidewalls at their base, and more importantly, the lake is immediately adjacent to the bay, which is exposed to the open sea. However, rock pillars similar in shape and size can also be found at the top of Queshi Mountain, which is only about 300 meters northwest of the lake and about 85 meters above sea level. Therefore, the marine origin of Cape Stone Forest is seriously questioned. In this study, 3D imagery and drone technology were used to collect data in the investigations without direct manual measurements in the water or on the mountain. It shows that the concave sidewalls of the rock pillars in the lake and on the mountains occur at different heights and are exposed to different directions, while a natural sea stack on Mayu Island at the mouth of Shantou Bay has a horizontal notch parallel to the sea level, although the granite rock of the sea stack is the same as that of the lake and the mountains. The eastern side of the island, where the sea stack is located, is exposed to the open sea but blocks large waves for the rock pillars in the lake. Therefore, the origin of Cape Stone Forest cannot be explained by wave-based mechanisms. The only satisfactory explanation that takes into account all the field evidence is that the narrow rock pillars of the lake and mountain were formed by chemical weathering that penetrated closely the spaced joints of the granite rock, and the notch-like concave sidewalls were formed by more effective chemical weathering at the base of the pillars.

Treadmill exercise in combination with acousto-optic and olfactory stimulation improves cognitive function in APP/PS1 mice through the brain-derived neurotrophic factor-and Cygb-associated signaling pathways

A reduction in adult neurogenesis is associated with behavioral abnormalities in patients with Alzheimer's ***,enhancing adult neurogenesis represents a promising therapeutic approach for mitigating disease symptoms and ***,nonpharmacological interventions aimed at inducing adult neurogenesis are currently *** individual non-pharmacological interventions,such as aerobic exercise,acousto-optic stimulation,and olfactory stimulation,have shown limited capacity to improve neurogenesis and cognitive function in patients with Alzheimer's disease,the therapeutic effect of a strategy that combines these interventions has not been fully *** this study,we observed an age-dependent decrease in adult neurogenesis and a concurrent increase in amyloid-beta accumulation in the hippocampus of amyloid precursor protein/presenilin 1 mice aged 2-8 *** deposition became evident at 4 months,while neurogenesis declined by 6 months,further deteriorating as the disease ***,following a 4-week multifactor stimulation protocol,which encompassed treadmill running(46 min/d,10 m/min,6 days per week),40 Hz acousto-optic stimulation(1 hour/day,6 days/week),and olfactory stimulation(1 hour/day,6 days/week),we found a significant increase in the number of newborn cells(5'-bromo-2'-deoxyuridine-positive cells),immature neurons(doublecortin-positive cells),newborn immature neurons(5'-bromo-2'-deoxyuridine-positive/doublecortin-positive cells),and newborn astrocytes(5'-bromo-2'-deoxyuridine-positive/glial fibrillary acidic protein-positive cells).Additionally,the amyloid-beta load in the hippocampus *** findings suggest that multifactor stimulation can enhance adult hippocampal neurogenesis and mitigate amyloid-beta neuropathology in amyloid precursor protein/presenilin 1 ***,cognitive abilities were improved,and depressive symptoms were alleviated in amyloid precursor protein/presenilin 1 mice

This paper deals with the robust stability analysis of dynamic systems with interval time- varying delay and uncertainties. The innovation of the method includes employment of a tighter integral inequality and construction of an appropriate type of Lyapunov functional. The stability criteria derived from this method have less conservatism than some existing ones. Numerical examples are given to illustrate the effectiveness of the orooosed method.

Rapid and scalable preparation of highly quaternized polymer networks to achieve efficient simultaneous adsorption of iodide and pertechnetate

The efficient separation of fission products,such as TcO4-and I-,holds strategic significance for the management of radioactive wastes and environmental *** this study,we propose an ultrafast strategy for scalable preparation of a highly quaternized organic network to facilitate efficient and synchronous separation of iodide and *** network can be prepared within a few minutes at room temperature,using polyethylenimine and 1,2,4,5-tetrakis（bromomethyl）benzene as building *** chlorine replacement,the network,abundantly decorated with quaternary ammonium groups （Cl@QPN）,exhibits an ultrahigh positive charge density of 7.6 mmol/*** enables the rapid and efficient enrichment of target anions through strong electrostatic Coulomb *** a result,Cl@QPN exhibits significantly higher adsorption rate constants of 0.830 g/（mg min） for ReO4-（a nonradioactive surrogate of TcO4-） and 0.677 g/（mg min） for I-compared to other ***,it possesses high adsorption capacities,reaching 1,681 mg/g for ReO4-and 917.4 mg/g for I-.Cl@QPN also demonstrates good selectivity towards target ions and shows efficient adsorption for99TcO4-.Additionally,Cl@QPN exhibits high dynamic processing capacities,handling up to 3,100 and 7,400 kg of simulated streams per kilogram of material for I-and ReO4-,respectively.

Least Absolute Deviation Estimation of Autoregressive Conditional Duration Model

This paper studies the least absolute deviation estimation of the high frequency financial autoregressive conditional duration （ACD） model. The asymptotic properties of the estimator are studied given mild regularity conditions. Furthermore, we develop a Wald test statistic for the linear restriction on the parameters. A simulation study is conducted for the finite sample properties of our estimator. Finally, we give an empirical study of financial duration.

A new equation for dielectric permittivity of saturated soils based on polarization mechanics

Based on polarization mechanisms, such as electronic, ionic and orientational polarizations, a new equation for dielectric permittivity of soil is proposed to interpret the dielectric behavior of a mixture like soil, in terms of polarization process of its components and the interactions between its components. The dielectric permittivity is expressed in terms of a fre-quency-dependent part and a frequency-independent part. These two parts correspond to polarizations occurred at different fre-quency range. It is a new volumetric mixing model with theoretical background. Based on time domain reflectometry (TDR) measurements of saturated soil samples and test data from literature, comparisons of this model with some well established mixing models show that the curves for saturated sand soils and slurries resulted from the new equation, which agree well with TDR measurements, are close to those calculated from Birchak's model.
