In this work, we propose a method to determinate the optimum thickness of a monofacial silicon solar cell under irradiation. The expressions of back surface recombination velocity depending the damage coefficient (kl) and irradiation energy (øp) are established. From their plots, base optimum thickness is deduced from the intercept points of the curves. The short-circuit currents Jsc0 and Jsc1 corresponding to the recombination velocity Sb0 and Sb1 are determinated and a correlation between the irradiation energy, the damage coefficient and optimum thickness of the base is established.

In this work, we study the characteristics I-V and P-V of a silicon solar cell as well as its fill factor, its electrical power from the optimum thickness obtained in the base under variation of the irradiation energy flow of charged particles. The recombination velocity at the junction corresponding to the maximum power point was also deduced.

Introduction: Malaria remains a public health priority in Senegal, particularly in Tambacounda, where it is one of the main causes of child mortality. The objective of this work was to evaluate the care of children under 10 years of age hospitalized at the Tambacounda Health Center and the factors associated with recovery. Methods: An analytical, retrospective, and descriptive cross-sectional study with exhaustive recruitment of children 0 to 120 months hospitalized at the Tambacounda reference health center for severe malaria (according to WHO criteria) between 1 January 2018 and 31 December 2021 was performed. Data collection was done through a questionnaire. Records, hospitalization records, and treatment records were the sources of collection. Data entry and analysis were performed on Epi Info 7.2 and R. Results: A total of 481 children hospitalized with severe malaria were recruited. The highest number of cases was recorded in 2018 (33.05%). In the four years of the study, peaks were always observed between October and November and the highest peak in November 2020 with 95 cases. The mean age was 65.64 months with a standard deviation of 29.28 months and a predominance of male (53.43%). The majority of people were admitted from the outpatient clinic (57.79%) and the rest (42.21%) on the recommendation of a peripheral health post. All hospitalized patients had a positive RDT and/or a positive thick drop. However, the sharp decline at admission or during hospitalization was positive in 93.80% of patients in our series, negative in 5.20% and not achieved in 1.00%. Seizures and severe anemia topped the list of signs of severity with 45.94% and 8.11%, respectively. In terms of evolution, for all hospitalized patients, there were 81.29% recovery, 10.19% referral to the Tambacounda regional hospital center for hospitalization, 4.99% death, 0.83% discharge and 2.70% unknown evolution. Introduction: HIV infection in children is a major public health problem. The objective of this study carried out in the paediatric department of the Centre Hospitalier Roi Baudouin de Guédiawaye, was to evaluate the epidemiological, clinical, therapeutic and evolutionary aspects of a cohort of children with HIV over a 15-year period and to determine the factors associated with discontinuation of treatment and transition to second-line treatment. Patients and Methods: This was a descriptive and analytical cross-sectional study from August 2004 to December 2019 at the Centre Hospitalier Roi Baudouin de Guédiawaye. Through this study, age at diagnosis, current age, gender, orphan status, therapeutic aspects, status announcement and evolution were evaluated. A total of 129 patient records were studied over a 15-year period (2004-2019). HIV-positive children with profile I represented 93.8% and there was a male predominance with a sex ratio of 1.43. The current mean age of the children was 12.2 ± 4.5 and the median was 14 years. Fatherless and motherless children represented 24.0% and 20.2%, respectively, while both fatherless and motherless children represented 11.6%. The mean age at the start of ARV treatment was 7.6 ± 4.3 years and the median was 7.5 years. The mean age at the start of second-line treatment was 13.7 years with a standard deviation of 2.6 while the median was 13 years. AZT + 3TC + NVP was the most commonly used combination (29.5%) followed by TDF + FTC + NVP (26.2%). The mean age at treatment discontinuation was 13.3 ± 4.3 years while the median was 15 years. Casamance was perceived as an agricultural granary that had rice potential which could meet the high food demand of Senegal. Given that the rice-growing lands have been degraded due to pedoclimatic variabilities, improved modern varieties are not usually well adapted to the Casamance rice-growing ecosystems. This work aims to contribute to the increase of rice production through varietal diversification and enhancement of cultural heritage. A participatory evaluation of five local farmers’ traditional varieties along with one check was carried out in an experiment laid out in a one-factor complete randomized block design using the six accessions with five replications. ANOVA followed by a 5% mean comparison Tukey test and the Kendall Rate were performed with IBM SPSS Statistics software. The result showed very significant varietal differences for leaf blade of the penultimate leaves, 100-grains weight, panicle length, growth cycle, plant height, ramification of secondary branching of the spikelets, resistance to lodging and threshing facility (p ≤ 0.005). However, traits including flag leaf, tiller numbers, sterile tillers number, panicle numbers, panicle yield, and grain yield did not show a significant difference (p ≥ 0.06) among varieties. Thus, based on some of these characteristics, farmers selected their most preferred rice varieties or accessions. The most important characteristics were tillering ability, lodging resistance and fertility rate. Koussik Emandiouck selected by farmers as the best variety, had a high grain yield (4.9 t∙ha-1), higher lodging resistance (9), and higher fertility rate (80.53%). Koussik Emandiouck, Koufekeny and Awandiaho varieties were the most preferred by farmers.

Introduction: Tetanus portals of entry are numerous. Amongst these, the carerelated portals of entry are rarely reported. The aim of the study was to describe the epidemiological, clinical and outcome aspects and identify the factors associated with death from care-related tetanus. Patients and Methods: This is a retrospective study of descriptive and analytical purposes. Data were collected from the medical records of patients admitted to the Infectious and Tropical Diseases Department of the National University Hospital Center (CHNU) of Fann in Dakar for care-related tetanus during the period ranging from 1 January 2009 to 31 December 2016. Care-related tetanus was defined as any case of tetanus occurring after a surgical procedure, including circumcisions performed even outside a health facility. Results: In eight years, 50 cases of care-related tetanus were recorded. Care-related tetanus accounted for 6.7% of hospitalized tetanus cases. The mean age of patients was 21 ± 22 years, with a male predominance (sex ratio: 6.14). The procedure had been performed in most cases, either in a health facility in 22 patients (44%) or at home in 16 patients (32%), and occurred after circumcision. In 62% of cases the portal of entry was urological, followed by orthopedic surgery (14%) and visceral surgery (10%). The procedures performed were dominated by circumcision (31 cases), limb amputation (3 cases) and inguinal hernia repair (2 cases). Tetanus was immediately generalized on admission in all patients. Eighty-four percent (84%) of patients were admitted with Mollaret stage II. Cardiovascular (11 cases), infectious (10 cases) and respiratory (9 cases) complications were the most frequent.
