To evaluate th. costs of th. introduction of a laparoscopic surgery program for gastric cancer in a Western community training h.spital and tertiary referral centre for gastric cancer surgery. METh.DSAll patients wh. underwent surgery for gastric cancer with.curative intent in 2013 and 2014 were prospectively included. Primary outcomes were costs regarding surgery and h.spital stay. RESULTSLaparoscopic gastrectomy was used in 52 patients [mean age 68 years (± 9, range 50 to 87)] and open gastrectomy was used in 25 patients [mean age 70 years (± 10, range 46 to 85)]. Mean costs (in euro’s) of surgical instrumentation were significantly h.gh.r for laparoscopic surgery: 2270 ± 670 vs 1181 ± 680 in th. open approach.(P h.atre use were h.gh.r in th. laparoscopic group: mean 3819 ± 865 vs 2545 ± 1268 in th. open surgery (P h.spitalization (i.e., costs of surgery and admission) were not different between laparoscopic and open surgery, 8187 ± 4864 and 7673 ± 8064 respectively (P = 0.729). Mean length.of h.spital stay was 9 ± 12 d in th. laparoscopic group vs 14 ± 14 d in th. open group (P = 0.044). CONCLUSIONTh. introduction of laparoscopic gastrectomy for gastric cancer coincided with.h.gh.r costs for th.atre use and surgical instrumentation compared to th. open tech.ique. Total costs were not significantly different due to sh.rter length.of stay and less intensive care unit (ICU) admissions and sh.rter ICU stay in th. laparoscopic group.

Research.indicates th.t h.gh.levels of sedentary beh.vior(sitting or lying with.low energy expenditure) are adversely associated with.h.alth. A key factor in improving our understanding of th. impact of sedentary beh.vior(and patterns of sedentary time accumulation) on h.alth.is th. use of objective measurement tools th.t collect date and time-stamped activity information. One such.tool is th. activP AL monitor. Th.s th.gh.worn device uses accelerometer-derived information about th.gh.position to determine th. start and end of each.period spent sitting/lying, standing, and stepping, as well as stepping speed, step counts, and postural transitions. Th. activP AL is increasingly being used with.n field-based research.for its ability to measure sitting/lying via posture. We summarise key issues to consider wh.n using th. activP AL in ph.sical activity and sedentary beh.vior field-based research.with.adult populations. It is intended th.t th. findings and discussion points be informative for research.rs wh. are currently using activP AL monitors or are intending to use th.m. Pre-data collection decisions, monitor preparation and distribution, data collection considerations, and manual and automated data processing possibilities are presented using examples from current literature and experiences from 2 research.groups from th. UK and Australia.

Th. main aims of a medico-judicial unit are to ensure th. examination of assault victims or persons in custody and to perform sampling necessary for *** examination is essential to describe th. wounds and to evaluate th. consequences of an assault by determining days of total incapacity for work(ITT).After th. Paris attack on November 13,2015,121 victims were examined at th. medico-judicial units of *** initial forensic certificate was issued by forensic ph.sicians with.an assessment of ph.sical ITT.A consultation with.a forensic psych.atrist was systematically sch.duled on th. same day to obtain a forensic certificate for th. psych.logical *** average age of th. victims was(33±7)years and th. sex ratio was *** victims were in th. Bataclan concert h.ll(78/121 or 64.5%).Of th. 121 victims,73(60.3%)h.d projectile lesions(bullets,bolts and nuts,metal fragments,etc.)and 48(39.7%)h.d non-projectile lesions(bruises,h.matomas,etc.).Th. average ph.sical ITT was 27 days(0;190).Th. evaluation of th. number of days of ph.sical ITT was often complicated as some patients were still in medical care at th. time of th. initial *** experience enabled th. Th.s paper proposes a control strategy to maximize th. wind energy captured in a variable speed wind turbine, with.an internal induction generator, at low to medium wind speeds. Th. proposed strategy controls th. tipspeed ratio, via th. rotor angular speed, to an optimum point at wh.ch.th. efficiency constant （or power coefficient） is maximum for a particular blade pitch.angle and wind speed. Th.s control meth.d allows for aerodynan^c rotor power maximization with.ut exact wind turbine model knowledge. Representative numerical results demonstrate th.t th. wind turbine can be controlled to ach.eve near maximum energy capture.
