Collaborating with Young Adults diagnosed with Schizophrenia:A Participatory design Study to Shape the Healthcare System

Introduction: disengagement from mental health services in young adults with schizophrenia has been associated with dissatisfaction and unmet needs. Striving to improve engagement, we invited service users recently diagnosed with schizophrenia to be co-designers of a smartphone technology that will be responsive to their needs. Aim: This paper reports the first phase of a three-phased participatory design process. The objective was to identify needs of support in young adults recently diagnosed with schizophrenia and to generate ideas of how the needs could be accommodated using smartphone technology. Methods: Participatory design guided the research process and a qualitative approach was used to generate and analyse the data. data were generated by means of participant observations (n = 45 hours) and interviews (n = 6) with young adults from a first episode psychosis program in denmark. Findings: Low levels of knowledge and high levels of uncertainties are characteristic of young adults recently diagnosed with schizophrenia, bringing about a vast need of support in order for them to gain power over their new life situation. Our study suggests that the smartphone may be used to foster empowerment by guiding the young adult’s actions in situ, providing comprehensive and easily understood information on the go, allowing for recovery tracking, and notification of mental health changes, providing medication overview and giving easy access to healthcare providers. Conclusion: Young adults recently diagnosed with schizophrenia require comprehensive support in order to become empowered to confidently manage their new life situation. The smartphone holds this potential by offering flexible collaboration and timely access to self-management

Objectives:To describe and compare the incidence,stage at diagnosis,and survival for genitourinary cancers in the border regions and in *** and methods:A population-based search was performed using the Surveillance,Epidemiology,and End Results Program 18 database and the Texas Cancer Registry from 2000 to *** regression models were performed with adjusted for age,gender,race,cancer type,cancer stage,insurance status,and cause of death were used to compare cancer-specific ***:A total of 63,236 kidney and renal pelvis,38,398 bladder,170,640 prostate,24,313 testicular cancer cases were ***-specific survivalwas found to beimproved in Hispanic-Americans in kidney and renal pelvis(hazard ratio[HR],0.903,95%confidence interval[CI],0.856-0.952,p=0.0001),and bladder cancers(HR,0.817,95%CI,0.743-0.898,pdespite a more advanced stage at diagnosis in Hispanics with bladder cancer(pdisadvantage for individuals living in the border region(HR,1.315,95%CI,1.124-1.539,p=0.0006).Conclusions:disparities exist between Hispanic-Americans and Non-Hispanic White and also between individuals living in the border counties when compared to other *** is most significant in individuals with testicular cancer residing in the border region who demonstrate worse overall survival.

The Panzhihua intrusion in southwest China is part of the Emeishan large igneous province and host of a large Fe-Ti-V ore *** previous interpretations it was considered to be a layered,differentiated sill with the ore deposits at its *** structural and petrological data suggest instead that the intrusion has an open S-shape,with two near-concordant segments joined by a discordant dyke-like segment. during emplacement of the main intrusion,multiple generations of mafic dykes invaded carbonate wall rocks,producing a large contact *** the central segment,magmatic layering is oriented oblique to the walls of the *** layering cannot have formed by crystal settling or in-situ growth on the floor of the intrusion;instead we propose that it resulted from inward solidification of multiple,individually operating,convection *** formation was triggered by interaction of magma with carbonate wall rocks.

Impact of dietary fat levels and fatty acid composition on milk fat synthesis in sows at peak lactation

Background dietary fat is important for energy provision and immune function of lactating sows and their ***,knowledge on the impact of fat on mammary transcription of lipogenic genes,de novo fat synthesis,and milk fatty acid(FA)output is sparse in *** study aimed to evaluate impacts of dietary fat levels and FA composition on these traits in *** second-parity sows(danish Landrace×Yorkshire)were assigned to 1 of 5 dietary treatments from d 108 of gestation until weaning(d 28 of lactation):low-fat control diet(3%added animal fat);or 1 of 4 high-fat diets with 8%added fat:coconut oil(CO),fish oil(FO),sunflower oil(SO),or 4%octanoic acid plus 4%FO(OFO).Three approaches were taken to estimate de novo milk fat synthesis from glucose and body *** daily intake of FA was lowest in low-fat sows within fat levels(Pd in OFO and FO sows within highfat diets(Pdaily milk outputs of fat,FA,energy,and FA-derived carbon reflected to a large extent the intake of *** average,estimates for de novo fat synthesis were 82 or 194 g/d from glucose according to method 1 or 2 and 255 g de novo+mobilized FA/d according to method *** low-fat diet increased mammary FAS expression(Pd de novo fat synthesis(method 1;P=0.13)within fat *** OFO diet increased de novo fat synthesis(method 1;Pd numerically upregulated mammary FAS expression compared to the other high-fat *** diets,a daily intake of 440 g digestible FA minimized milk fat originating from glucose and mobilized body *** Sows fed diets with low-fat or octanoic acid,through upregulating FAS expression,increased mammary de novo fat synthesis whereas the milk FA output remained low in sows fed the low-fat diet or high-fat OFO or FO diets,indicating that dietary FA intake,dietary fat level,and body fat mobilization in concert determine de novo fat synthesis,amount and profiles of FA in milk.
