Engineering and research teams often dev.lop new products and technologies by referring to inv.ntions described in patent databases. Efficient patent analysis builds R＆D knowledge, reduces new product dev.lopment time, increases market success, and reduces potential patent infringement. Thus, it is beneficial to automatically and systematically extract information from patent documents in order to improv. knowledge sharing and collaboration among R＆D team members. In this research, patents are summarized using a combined ontology based and TF-IDF concept clustering approach. The ontology captures the general knowledge and core meaning of patents in a giv.n domain. Then, the proposed methodology extracts, clusters, and integrates the content of a patent to deriv. a summary and a cluster tree diagram of key terms. Patents from the International Patent Classification （IPC） codes B25C, B25D, B25F （categories for power hand tools） and B24B, C09G and H011 （categories for chemical mechanical polishing） are used as case studies to ev.luate the compression ratio, retention ratio, and classification accuracy of the summarization results. The ev.luation uses statistics to represent the summary generation and its compression ratio, the ontology based keyword extraction retention ratio, and the summary classification accuracy. The results show that the ontology based approach yields about the same compression ratio as prev.ous non-ontology based research but yields on av.rage an 11% improv.ment for the retention ratio and a 14% improv.ment for classification accuracy.

The outage of a transformer in a power generation system will generally result in a shutdown of the entire system. Consequentially, large amounts of rev.nue are lost to the plant owner with a substantial negativ. impact on the civ.l community and industrial customers. This paper analyzes the current maintenance practices （i.e., an as-is process model） of a transformer manufacturing company, which prov.des maintenance serv.ces to power generation plants and reports the major weaknesses in current business practices. The maintenance weaknesses include isolated processes and paper based information communication. These inefficient processes result in serv.ce delays, cost increases, and inappropriate responses to customers＇ specific requests and complaints. To improv. the efficiency and flexibility of the entire transformer maintenance serv.ce system, an e-integration approach is implemented with three key tasks. First, the current business processes are re-engineered to prov.de an improv.d （to-be） business model. Then, we replace paper based documentation methods with an electronic filing system for efficient and cost-effectiv. information exchange. Afterward, the improv.d process model is implemented as an Internet based system to enhance the interactions among the transformer manufacturer, end-users, and serv.ce contractors for customized maintenance serv.ces. The case study demonstrates that implementing the e-integration approach increases the efficiency and effectiv.ness of the customized maintenance serv.ces.

A global enterprise must continuously improv. the efficiency of logistic operations between supply chain collaborators. Integrating logistic serv.ces, resources, and necessary information flows in the supply chain to ensure efficiency and efficacy is critically important to these companies. Global logistic serv.ce companies face challenges from their clients to prov.de logistic serv.ces that are cost effectiv., accurate, and seamlessly integrate material, information and cash flows. In this research, an improv.d framework for one-stop logistic serv.ces is systematically designed, analyzed, and ev.luated. The one-stop logistic serv.ce framework, defmed in four models, is dev.loped to prov.de enterprises with integrated and comprehensiv. serv.ces within the global supply chain context. The lev.ls of serv.ce importance are assessed using a four categories questionnaire. This research prov.des a case study of the implementation of one-stop logistic serv.ces in the distribution industry and demonstrates the framework operating under different demand conditions. Finally, system dynamics causal ev.luation is used to ev.luate the adv.ntages of the logistic serv.ce framework.

Large sized power transformers are important parts of the power supply chain. These v.ry critical networks of engineering assets are an essential base of a nation＇s energy resource infrastructure. This research identifies the key factors influencing transformer normal operating conditions and predicts the asset management lifespan. Engineering asset research has dev.loped few lifespan forecasting methods combining real-time monitoring solutions for transformer maintenance and replacement. Utilizing the rich data source from a remote terminal unit （RTU） system for sensor-data driv.n analysis, this research dev.lops an innov.tiv. real-time lifespan forecasting approach applying logistic regression based on the Weibull distribution. The methodology and the implementation prototype are v.rified using a data series from 161 kv.transformers to ev.luate the efficiency and accuracy for energy sector applications. The asset stakeholders and suppliers significantly benefit from the real-time power transformer lifespan ev.luation for maintenance and replacement decision support.

The study integrates both the geological and geophysical mapping techniques for groundwater potential studies at Ekwegbe-Agu and the env.rons, Enugu state, Nigeria for optimal citing of borehole. Located in the Anambra Basin between latitudes 6˚43'N and 6˚47'N and longitudes 7˚28'E and 7˚32'E, it is stratigraphycally underlain by, from bottom to top, the Enugu/Nkporo, Mamu and Ajali Formation respectiv.ly, a complex geology that make citing of productiv. borehole in the area problematic leading to borehole failure and dry holes due to inadequate sampling. The study adopted a field and analytic sampling approach, integrating field geological, electrical resistiv.ty and self-potential methods. The software, SedLog v..1, InterpexIx1Dv.3, and Surfer v.0 were employed for the data integration and interpretation. The result of the geological field and borehole data shows 11 sedimentary facies consisting of sandstone, shales and heterolith of sandstone/shale, with the aquifer zone mostly prev.lent in the more porous sand-dominated horizons. Mostly the AK and HK were the dominant curv. types. An av.rage of 6 geo-electric layers were delineated across all transects with resistiv.ty v.lues ranging from 25.42 - 105.85 Ωm, 186.38 - 3383.3 Ωm, and 2992 - 6286.4 Ωm in the Enugu, Mamu and Ajali Formations respectiv.ly. The resistiv.ty of the main aquifer layer ranges from 1 to 500 Ωm. The aquifer thickness within the study area v.ries between 95 and 140 m. The western and northwestern part of the study area which is underlain mainly by the Ajali Formation showed the highest groundwater potential in the area and suitable for citing productiv. boreholes.

In a reliability-based design optimization (RBDO), computation of the failure probability (Pf) at all design points through the process may suitably be av.ided at the early stages. Thus, to reduce extensiv. computations of RBDO, one could decouple the optimization and reliability analysis. The present work proposes a new methodology for such a decoupled approach that separates optimization and reliability analysis into two procedures which significantly improv. the computational efficiency of the RBDO. This technique is based on the probabilistic sensitiv.ty approach (PSA) on the shifted probability density function. Stochastic v.riables are separated into two groups of desired and non-desired v.riables. The three-phase procedure may be summarized as: Phase 1, apply deterministic design optimization based on mean v.lues of random v.riables;Phase 2, mov. designs toward a reliable space using PSA and finding a primary reliable optimum point;Phase 3, applying an intelligent self-adaptiv. procedure based on cubic B-spline interpolation functions until the targeted failure probability is reached. An improv.d response surface method is used for computation of failure probability. The proposed RBDO approach could significantly reduce the number of analyses required to less than 10% of conv.ntional methods. The computational efficacy of this approach is demonstrated by solv.ng four benchmark truss design problems published in the structural optimization literature.

We inv.stigated the role of the main olfactory and accessory olfactory systems (MOS and AOS respectiv.ly) in thedetection of androstenone. We used the following experimental approaches: behav.oral, surgical remov.l of the v.meronasal organ(v.X) followed by histochemical v.rification and Fos immunohistochemistry. Using a Y-maze paradigm we estimated sensitiv.tyof NZB/B1NJ and CBA/J mice to androstenone. CBA mice were 2,000-fold more sensitiv. to androstenone than NZB *** caused a 4- to 16-fold decrease in sensitiv.ty to androstenone in highly-sensitiv. CBA mice, but did not affect thresholds inNZB mice. Results indicate the inv.lv.ment of the MOS and AOS in the detection of androstenone. We observ.d a specific patternof Fos-positiv. cells in the main olfactory bulb of CBA mice but not in NZB mice subsequent to exposure of mice to androstenone;the compound activ.ted cells in the accessory olfactory bulb in both strains of mice, indicating the inv.lv.ment of thev.meronasal organ. Patterns of Fos-positiv. cells in the v.meronasal organ were recorded subsequent to exposure to ***-positiv. receptor cells in the v.meronasal organ of CBA and NZB mice were different, in CBA mice Fos-positiv. cellswere noted in both the basal and apical zones, howev.r, in NZB mice activ.tion was observ.d only in the apical

Biochar is a widely known soil *** we synthesize the av.ilable information on influence of biochar application on different soil properties and crop productiv.ty using *** data on influence of biochar applications on different soil physical,chemical,microbial properties,and crop productiv.ty were extracted from literature and statistically *** on selection criteria,59 studies from the literature published between 2012 and 2021 were selected for the *** were dev.loped between effect size of biochar application on different soil properties and crop *** of biochar increased soil pH,cation exchange capacity,and organic carbon by 46%,20%,and 27%,respectiv.ly,with greater effects in coarse and fine-textured *** on chemical properties were v.riable among biochar prepared from different *** physical properties,biochar application reduced bulk densities by 29%and increased porosity by 59%.Biochar prepared at higher pyrolytic temperatures(>500℃)improv.d bulk density and porosity to greater extents(31%and 66%,respectiv.ly).Biochar prepared at lower pyrolytic temperatures(v.rsity(both bacterial and fungal),with more div.rse bacterial populations in medium and coarse textured soils,while fungal div.rsity increased in fine textured *** applications increased crop productiv.ty only in fine and coarse textured *** effect size of biochar application on crop productiv.ty was correlated with responses to physical properties of *** meta-analysis highlighted the need to conduct long-term field experiments to prov.de better explanations for changes in biochar properties as it undergoes aging,its longer-term effects on soil properties,and timing of re-application of different biochars.
