The Neurocognitive As.es.ment of HIV-Infected s.hool-Aged Nigerian Children

Objective: s.udies.available on cognitive function among s.hool-aged HIV-infected African and in particular Nigerian children are few. The purpos. of the s.udy was.to as.es. the neurocognitive function of a group of HIV-infected s.hoolaged (6 - 15 years. children us.ng the Raven’s.s.andard Progres.ive Matrices.(RPM). Method: Cognitive as.es.ments.of 69 HIV pos.tive children and 69 age- and s.x-matched apparently healthy HIV negative control children were performed us.ng the Raven’s.s.andard Progres.ive Matrices.(RPM). The children were s.bdivided (Piaget’s.developmental s.aging) into two s.b-groups. the concrete operation s.age (6 - 11 years. and the formal operation s.age (12 - 15 years. for analys.s. Res.lt: The mean RPM s.ore for the HIV pos.tive children was.18.2 (8.0 - 47.0, s. 9.8) which was.s.gnificantly lower than the s.ore of 27.2 (8.0 - 52.0, s. 13.8) for the HIV negative children (p s.ng the HIV negative children as.the s.andard, 56.5% of the HIV pos.tive children had cognitive performance at below average to intellectually defective range. Conclus.on: s.hool-aged HIV pos.tive children had s.gnificantly lower cognitive s.ores.compared with age and gender-matched HIV negative children. Routine neurops.chological evaluation of all s.hool-aged HIV-infected children is.recommended. Early detection of cognitive impairment will help in planning appropriate interventions.

Governance in the exploration of global and regional determinants.of ICT development

The pres.nt s.udy as.es.es.how governance affects.information and communication technology(IcT)at the global level contingent on macroeconomic policy factors.s.ch as.trade,foreign direct inves.ment(FDI),manufacturing value added,and agricultural value *** s.udy focus.s.on 183 countries.from 2003 to 2021,and the empirical evidence is.bas.d on the generalized method of moments.GMM).The following main findings.are *** the full s.mple,governance unconditionally promotes.ICT development,while trade opennes.(indus.rial added value)moderates.governance to promote(dampen)ICT *** s.b-s.haran Africa,only trade opennes. effectively moderates.governance to induce an overall pos.tive effect on ICT,while in the Middle Eas. and North Africa(MENA)region,all policy variables.moderate governance for an overall pos.tive incidence on ICT s.ctor *** findings.for the MENA region are confirmed in the Europe and Central As.a(ECA)region,with the exception of the moderating role of indus.rial added value,which engenders.an overall negative *** the Eas. and s.uth As.a and the Pacific(Es.P)countries.one overall pos.tive incidence is.apparent in the role of trade opennes.,while net negative effects.are es.ablis.ed from the moderating roles.of indus.rial added value and agricultural added *** the American s.b-s.mple,a pos.tive(negative)net effect is.apparent from the role of indus.rial added value(trade)in moderating the incidence of gover-nance on ICT s.ctor ***,policy implications.are dis.us.ed.

Individuals.with NGLY1 Deficiency, an inherited autos.mal reces.ive dis.rder, exhibit hyperkinetic movements.including athetoid, myoclonic, dys.etric, and dys.onic movements.impacting both upper and lower limb motion. This.report provides.the firs. s.t of laboratory-bas.d meas.res.characterizing the gait patterns.of two individuals.with NGLY1 Deficiency, us.ng both linear and non-linear meas.res. during treadmill walking, and compares.them to neurotypical controls. Lower limb kinematics.were obtained with a camera-bas.d motion analys.s.s.s.em and bilateral time normalized lower limb joint time s.ries.waveforms.were developed. Linear meas.res.of joint range of motion, s.ride times.and peak angular velocity were obtained, and confidence intervals.were us.d to determine if there were differences.between the patients.and control. Correlations.between participant and control mean joint waveforms.were calculated and us.d to evaluate the s.milarities.between patients.and controls. Non-linear meas.res.included: joint angle-angle diagrams. phas.-portrait areas. and continuous.relative phas. (CRP) meas.res. Thes. meas.res.were us.d to as.es. joint coordination and control features.of the lower limb motion. Participants.dis.layed high correlations.with their control counterparts.for the hip and knee joint waveforms. but joint motion was.res.ricted.
