Predicting the Yield Loss of Winter Wheat Due to Drought in the Llano Estacado region of the United States Based on the Cultivar-Specific Sensitivity to Drought

In most agricultural areas in the semi-arid region of the southern United States, wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) production is a primary economic activity. This region is drought-prone and projected to have a drier climate in the future. Predicting the yield loss due to an anticipated drought is crucial for wheat growers. A reliable way for predicting the drought-induced yield loss is to use a plant physiology-based drought index, such as Agricultural reference Index for Drought (ArID). Since different wheat cultivars exhibit varying levels of sensitivity to water stress, the impact of drought could be different on the cultivars belonging to different drought sensitivity groups. The objective of this study was to develop the cultivar drought sensitivity (CDS) group-specific, ArID-based models for predicting the drought-induced yield loss of winter wheat in the Llano Estacado region in the southern United States by accounting for the phenological phase-specific sensitivity to drought. For the study, the historical (1947-2021) winter wheat grain yield and daily weather data of two locations in the region (Bushland, TX and Clovis, NM) were used. The logical values of the drought sensitivity parameters of the yield models, especially for the moderately-sensitive and highly-sensitive CDS groups, indicated that the yield models reflected the phenomenon of water stress decreasing the winter wheat yields in this region satisfactorily. The reasonable values of the Nash-Sutcliffe Index (0.65 and 0.72), the Willmott Index (0.88 and 0.92), and the percentage error (23 and 22) for the moderately-sensitive and highly-sensitive CDS groups, respectively, indicated that the yield models for these groups performed reasonably well. These models could be useful for predicting the drought-induced yield losses and scheduling irrigation allocation based on the phenological phase-specific drought sensitivity as influenced by cultivar genotype.

Agricultural practices significantly contribute to greenhouse gas(GHG)emissions,necessitating cleaner production technologies to reduce environmental pressure and achieve sustainable maize *** film mulching is commonly used in the Loess Plateau *** slow-release fertilizers as a replacement for urea within this practice can reduce nitrogen losses and enhance crop *** these techniques represents a novel agricultural approach in semi-arid ***,the impact of this integration on soil carbon storage(SOCS),carbon footprint(CF),and economic benefits has received limited research ***,we conducted an eight-year study(2015-2022)in the semi-arid northwestern region to quantify the effects of four treatments[urea supplied without plastic film mulching(CK-U),slow-release fertilizer supplied without plastic film mulching(CK-S),urea supplied with plastic film mulching(PM-U),and slow-release fertilizer supplied with plastic film mulching(PM-S)]on soil fertility,economic and environmental *** results revealed that nitrogen fertilizer was the primary contributor to total GHG emissions(≥71.97%).Compared to other treatments,PM-S increased average grain yield by 12.01%-37.89%,water use efficiency by 9.19%-23.33%,nitrogen accumulation by 27.07%-66.19%,and net return by 6.21%-29.57%.Furthermore,PM-S decreased CF by 12.87%-44.31%and CF per net return by 14.25%-41.16%.After eight years,PM-S increased SOCS(0-40 cm)by 2.46%,while PM-U decreased it by 7.09%.These findings highlight the positive effects of PM-S on surface soil fertility,economic gains,and environmental benefits in spring maize production on the Loess Plateau,underscoring its potential for widespread adoption and application.

In the last decade,artificial intelligence(AI)techniques have been extensively used for maximum power point tracking(MPPT)in the solar power *** is because conventional MPPT techniques are incapable of tracking the global maximum power point(GMPP)under partial shading condition(PSC).The output curve of the power versus voltage for a solar panel has only one GMPP and multiple local maximum power points(MPPs).The integration of AI in MPPT is crucial to guarantee the tracking of GMPP while increasing the overall efficiency and performance of *** selection of AI-based MPPT techniques is complicated because each technique has its own merits and *** general,all of the AI-based MPPT techniques exhibit fast convergence speed,less steady-state oscillation and high efficiency,compared with the conventional MPPT ***,the AI-based MPPT techniques are computationally intensive and costly to ***,the hybrid MPPT is favorable in terms of the balance between performance and complexity,and it combines the advantages of conventional and AI-based MPPT *** this paper,a detailed comparison of classification and performance between 6 major AI-based MPPT techniques have been made based on the review and MATLAB/Simulink simulation *** merits,open issues and technical implementations of AI-based MPPT techniques are *** intend to provide new insights into the choice of optimal AI-based MPPT techniques.

recent improvements in the speed and accuracy of DNA sequencing, together with increasingly sophisti- cated mathematical approaches for annotating gene networks, have revolutionized the field of human genetics and made these once time consuming approaches assessable to most investigators. In the field of bone research, a particularly active area of gene discovery has occurred in patients with rare bone disorders such as osteogenesis imperfecta （OI） that are caused by mutations in single genes. In this perspective, we highlight some of these technological advances and describe how they have been used to identify the genetic determinants underlying two previously unexplained cases of OI. The widespread availability of advanced methods for DNA sequencing and bioinformatics analysis can be expected to greatly facilitate identification of novel gene networks that normally function to control bone formation and maintenance.

Fuzzy Logic Controller-based Synchronverter in Grid-connected Solar Power System with Adaptive Damping Factor

In recent years,renewable energy sources,specifically solar power systems,have developed rapidly owing to their technological maturity and cost ***,its grid integration deteriorates frequency stability because of insufficient rotating masses and inertial ***,a synchronverter,which is an inverter that mimics the operation of a synchronous generator,is crucial to interface solar power in a power *** stabilizes the power grid by emulating a virtual ***,a conventional proportional-integral(PI)-based synchronverter is not equipped with an adaptive damping factor(Dp)or a digitalized smart controller to manage fast-responding solar ***,a novel fuzzy logic controller(FLC)framework is proposed such that the synchronverter can operate in a grid-connected solar power *** this study,Dp is controlled in real time using an FLC to achieve balance between speed and stability for frequency error correction based on frequency *** of four case studies performed in Matlab/Simulink show that the proposed FLC-based synchronverter can stabilize the grid frequency by reducing the frequency deviation by at least 0.2 Hz(0.4%),as compared with the conventional PI-based synchronverter.
