Management of extracranial carotid artery stenosis during endovascular treatment for acute ischaemic stroke:results from the MR ClEAN Registry

Background The optimal management of ipsilateral extracranial internal carotid artery(ICA)stenosis during endovascular treatment(EVT)is *** compared the outcomes of two different strategies:EVT with vs without carotid artery stenting(CAS).Methods In this observational study,we included patients who had an acute ischaemic stroke undergoing EVT and a concomitant ipsilateral extracranial ICA stenosis of≥50%or occlusion of presumed atherosclerotic origin,from the Dutch Multicenter Randomized Clinical Trial of Endovascular Treatment for Acute Ischemic Stroke in the Netherlands(MR ClEAN)Registry(2014-2017).The primary endpoint was a good functional outcome at 90 days,defined as a modified Rankin Scale score≤*** endpoints were successful intracranial reperfusion,new clot in a different vascular territory,symptomatic intracranial haemorrhage,recurrent ischaemic stroke and any serious adverse *** Of the 433 included patients,169(39%)underwent EVT with *** 123/168(73%)patients,CAS was performed before intracranial *** 42/224(19%)patients who underwent EVT without CAS,a deferred carotid endarterectomy or CAS was *** with and without CAS were associated with similar proportions of good functional outcome(47%vs 42%,respectively;adjusted OR(aOR),0.90;95%CI,0.50 to 1.62).There were no major differences between the groups in any of the secondary endpoints,except for the increased odds of a new clot in a different vascular territory in the EVT with CAS group(aOR,2.96;95%CI,1.07 to 8.21).Conclusions Functional outcomes were comparable after EVT with and without *** during EVT might be a feasible option to treat the extracranial ICA stenosis but randomised studies are warranted to prove non-inferiority or superiority.

The endemic fauna of New Zealand evolved in the absence of mammalian predators and their introduction has been responsible for many extinctions and *** species including possums(Trichosurus vulpecula Kerr),ship rats(Rattus rattus l.)and stoats(Mustela erminea l.)are targeted to protect native *** methodologies currently rely largely on labor-intensive trapping or the use of increasingly unpopular poisons,or poisons that are linked with low welfare ***,the development of safer humane predator toxins and delivery systems is highly ***-aminopropiophenone(PAPP)is being developed as a toxin for feral cats(Felis catus l.)and *** appear to be much more susceptible to PAPP than birds,so it potentially has high target specificity,at least in New *** trials with 20 feral cats and 15 stoats have been undertaken using meat baits containing a proprietary formulation of PAPP.A PAPP dose of 20-34 mg kg^(-1)was lethal for feral cats and 37-95 mg kg^(-1)was lethal for *** assessments suggest that PAPP,for the control of feral cats and stoats,is a humane and effective *** causes methaemoglobinaemia,resulting in central nervous system anoxia,lethargy and death.

Mutations in the fused in sarcoma/translocated in liposarcoma(FUS/TlS)gene have been associated with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis(AlS).FUS-positive neuropathology is reported in a range of neurodegenerative diseases,including AlS and fronto-temporal lobar degeneration with ubiquitin-positive pathology(FTlDU).To examine protein aggregation and cytotoxicity,we expressed human FUS protein in *** of either wild type or AlS-associated R524S or P525l mutant FUS in yeast cells led to formation of aggregates and cytotoxicity,with the two AlS mutants showing increased ***,yeast cells expressing human FUS protein recapitulate key features of FUSpositive neurodegenerative ***,a significant fraction of FUS expressing yeast cells stained by propidium iodide were without detectable protein aggregates,suggesting that membrane impairment and cellular damage caused by FUS expression may occur before protein aggregates become microscopically detectable and that aggregate formation might protect cells from FUS-mediated *** N-terminus of FUS,containing the QGSY and G rich regions,is sufficient for the formation of aggregates but not *** C-terminal domain,which contains a cluster of mutations,did not show aggregation or *** to TDP-43 when expressed in yeast,FUS protein has the intrinsic property of forming aggregates in the absence of other human *** the other hand,the aggregates formed by FUS are thioflavin T-positive and resistant to 0.5%sarkosyl,unlike TDP-43 when expressed in yeast ***,TDP-43 and FUS display distinct domain requirements in aggregate formation and cytotoxicity.

We have previously evaluated asbestos exposure associated with various maintenance procedures on light aircraft. The purpose of this study was to evaluate asbestos exposure during engine maintenance on light aircraft. This test was designed to evaluate the potential for asbestos exposure to mechanics and others who remove asbestos-containing engine gaskets from reciprocating style aircraft engines. Utilized in this test was an air cooled, horizontally opposed, aviation gasoline burning engine, assembled during 1986 and operated intermittently up into 2015, having accumulated 1680 hours run time. Nearly 75% of the asbestos-containing gaskets installed during 1986 were still in place at the time of testing. Chrysotile asbestos contents of such gaskets ranged from 55% to 60% by area, for those of sheet style and 5% by area, for the spiral wound metal/asbestos style. Despite the levels of effort required to effect gasket removals, the professional aircraft mechanic was not exposed to airborne asbestos fibers at the lower limits of sampling and analytical detection achieved;all of which were substantially less than the current Occupational Safety and Health Administration Permissible Exposure limits for asbestos. The results of this testing indicate an absence of gasket related asbestos exposure risk to mechanics who work with light aircraft engines, including those having asbestos-containing gaskets. These results are consistent with the findings of Mlyarek and Van Orden who studied the asbestos exposure risk occasioned during overhaul of larger radial style reciprocating aircraft engines [1].

The wear patterns for drum-style automotive brakes tend to enlarge internal drum diameters. Such enlargement is most profound when used brake drums are machined to restore the metal friction surfaces. Specialized arc grinding machinery has been used to match replacement shoe-style brake friction materials to enlarged drums. The process of arc grinding removes friction material, thereby producing dust. When organic-style friction materials contained asbestos, use of arc grinding machinery posed an asbestos fiber exposure risk to operators and proximate personnel. The manufacturers of arc grinding machinery have incorporated local exhaust ventilation systems designed to capture and remove this dust at the point of grinding contact and propel this dust into collection bags or other systems. This research was designed to evaluate the dust capture and retention characteristics of a specific arc grinder product, when used to custom grind asbestos-containing brake friction materials. A Bear Model 1420 automotive brake shoe arc grinder was the subject of this study. During two separate but consecutive test sessions, newly relined sets of shoe-style automobile brake friction materials were precision ground. Both area and personal air samples were collected throughout each testing session. This work took place within a closed and unventilated metal building, with total interior volume of 2500 m3. Collected air samples were analyzed using phase contrast microscopy (PCM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The results of analysis using PCM for personal samples (n = 6) ranged from llow-up analysis of these personal samples using TEM indicated asbestos-adjusted PCM exposures ranging from les, taken at distances ranging from 1.5 to 9 meters from the arc grinder (n = 12), showed asbestos-adjusted PCM concentrations ranging from <0.0075 to 0.041 f/cc (mean ≤ 0.01

White-light interferometry is one of today’s most precise tools for determining the properties of optical *** achievable precision and accuracy are typically limited by systematic errors due to a high number of interdependent data-fitting ***,we introduce spectrally resolved quantum white-light interferometry as a novel tool for optical property measurements,notably,chromatic dispersion in optical *** exploiting both spectral and photon-number correlations of energy-time entangled photon pairs,the number of fitting parameters is significantly reduced,which eliminates systematic errors and leads to an absolute determination of the material *** comparing the quantum method to state-of-the-art approaches,we demonstrate the quantum advantage of 2.4 times better measurement precision,despite requiring 62 times fewer *** improved results are due to conceptual advantages enabled by quantum optics,which are likely to define new standards in experimental methods for characterising optical materials.
