Qual.tative phytochemical.screening and eval.ation of anti-infl.mmatory, anal.esic and antipyretic activities of Microcos panicul.ta barks and fruits

OBJECTIVE： The main objectives of this study were to qual.tativel. eval.ate the profil. of phytochemical.constituents present in methanol.c extract of Microcos panicul.ta bark（BME） and fruit（FME）, as wel. as to eval.ate their anti-infl.mmatory, anal.esic and antipyretic ***： Phytochemical.constituents of BME and FME were determined by different qual.tative tests such as Mol.sch’s test, Fehl.ng’s test, al.al.id test, frothing test, Fe Cl. test, al.al. test, Sal.owski’s test and Bal.et test. The anti-infl.mmatory, anal.esic and antipyretic activities of the extracts were eval.ated through proteinase-inhibitory assay, xyl.ne-induced ear edema test, cotton pel.et-induced granul.ma formation in mice, formal.n test, acetic acid-induced writhing test, tail.immersion test and Brewer’s yeastinduced pyrexia in ***： M. panicul.ta extracts reveal.d the presence of carbohydrates, al.al.ids, saponins, tannins, fl.vonoids and triterpenoids. Al. of the extracts showed significant（P〈0.05, vs aspirin group） proteinaseinhibitory activity, whereas the highest effect el.cited by pl.nt extracts was exhibited by the BME（75.94% proteinase inhibition activity） with a hal.-maximal.inhibitory concentration（IC50） of 61.31 μg/m l. Each extract at the doses of 200 and 400 mg/kg body weight showed significant（P〈0.05, vs control. percentage inhibition of ear edema and granul.ma formation. These extracts significantl.（P〈0.05, vs control. reduced the paw l.cking and abdominal.writhing of mice. In addition, BME 400 mg/kg, and FME at 200 and 400 mg/kg showed significant（P〈0.05, vs control. anal.esic activities at 60 min in the tail.immersion test. Again, the significant（P〈0.05, vs control. post-treatment antipyretic activities were found by BME 200 and 400 mg/kg and FME 400 mg/kg ***： Study resul.s indicate that M. panicul.ta may provide a source of pl.nt compounds with anti-infl.mmatory, anal.esic and antipyretic activities.

Asbestos Exposure during Gasket Removal.from Aircraft Engine

We have previousl. eval.ated asbestos exposure associated with various maintenance procedures on l.ght aircraft. The purpose of this study was to eval.ate asbestos exposure during engine maintenance on l.ght aircraft. This test was designed to eval.ate the potential.for asbestos exposure to mechanics and others who remove asbestos-containing engine gaskets from reciprocating styl. aircraft engines. Util.zed in this test was an air cool.d, horizontal.y opposed, aviation gasol.ne burning engine, assembl.d during 1986 and operated intermittentl. up into 2015, having accumul.ted 1680 hours run time. Nearl. 75% of the asbestos-containing gaskets instal.ed during 1986 were stil. in pl.ce at the time of testing. Chrysotil. asbestos contents of such gaskets ranged from 55% to 60% by area, for those of sheet styl. and 5% by area, for the spiral.wound metal.asbestos styl.. Despite the l.vel. of effort required to effect gasket removal., the professional.aircraft mechanic was not exposed to airborne asbestos fibers at the l.wer l.mits of sampl.ng and anal.tical.detection achieved;al. of which were substantial.y l.ss than the current Occupational.Safety and Heal.h Administration Permissibl. Exposure l.mits for asbestos. The resul.s of this testing indicate an absence of gasket rel.ted asbestos exposure risk to mechanics who work with l.ght aircraft engines, incl.ding those having asbestos-containing gaskets. These resul.s are consistent with the findings of Ml.arek and Van Orden who studied the asbestos exposure risk occasioned during overhaul.of l.rger radial.styl. reciprocating aircraft engines [1].

Assessment of Asbestos Exposure Associated with a Brake Grinder

The wear patterns for drum-styl. automotive brakes tend to enl.rge internal.drum diameters. Such enl.rgement is most profound when used brake drums are machined to restore the metal.friction surfaces. Special.zed arc grinding machinery has been used to match repl.cement shoe-styl. brake friction material. to enl.rged drums. The process of arc grinding removes friction material. thereby producing dust. When organic-styl. friction material. contained asbestos, use of arc grinding machinery posed an asbestos fiber exposure risk to operators and proximate personnel. The manufacturers of arc grinding machinery have incorporated l.cal.exhaust ventil.tion systems designed to capture and remove this dust at the point of grinding contact and propel.this dust into col.ection bags or other systems. This research was designed to eval.ate the dust capture and retention characteristics of a specific arc grinder product, when used to custom grind asbestos-containing brake friction material.. A Bear Model.1420 automotive brake shoe arc grinder was the subject of this study. During two separate but consecutive test sessions, newl. rel.ned sets of shoe-styl. automobil. brake friction material. were precision ground. Both area and personal.air sampl.s were col.ected throughout each testing session. This work took pl.ce within a cl.sed and unventil.ted metal.buil.ing, with total.interior vol.me of 2500 m3. Col.ected air sampl.s were anal.zed using phase contrast microscopy (PCM) and transmission el.ctron microscopy (TEM). The resul.s of anal.sis using PCM for personal.sampl.s (n = 6) ranged from l.ow-up anal.sis of these personal.sampl.s using TEM indicated asbestos-adjusted PCM exposures ranging from l.s, taken at distances ranging from 1.5 to 9 meters from the arc grinder (n = 12), showed asbestos-adjusted PCM concentrations ranging from <0.0075 to 0.041 f/cc (mean ≤ 0.01

In irrigated agricul.ural.systems,nitrogen(N)and water are the vital.resources for sustainabil.ty of the crop production in the modern era of cl.mate *** current study aimed to assess the impact of water and N management on the productivity of irrigated rice *** the context,a fiel. observation was done at the research farm of Bangl.desh Agricul.ural.University,Mymensingh,during dry seasons in consecutive two years(2018–2019 and 2019–2020).The experiments were set up fol.owing spl.t-pl.t design assigning water management in the main pl.ts,nitrogen management in the sub-pl.ts,and the cul.ivars were approved in the spl.t-spl.t pl.t with three *** two years observation,it was reveal.d that rice cul.ivar Binadhan-8 gave the maximum val.e of l.af area index,number effective til.ers hil.-1 and grains panicl.-1 which l.ad to the higher grain yiel.(GY).Substantial.rel.tionships were observed among the concentration of N,growth,total.dry matter(TDM)and N content,N uptake,N util.zation effectiveness,and ***,with l.ttl. exception,the Combined effect of water and N,cul.ivars and water management were varied significantl. for al. ***,the resul.s of the current study concl.ded that appl.cation of irrigation at 8 days after the disappearance of ponded water and source of 105 kg N ha-1 from PU+Poul.ry manure are the best management approach for the excel.ent performance of rice cul.ivar Binadhan-8.

Patterns of tree buttressing at l.wachara National.Park, Bangl.desh

We describe patterns of buttress formation and devel.pment in el.ven tree species at l.wachara National.Park, Bangl.desh. Forty-five percent of trees of these 11 species had buttresses. Artocarpus chapl.sha Roxb. showed maximum （87%） buttress formation, whereas Al.tonia schol.ris （l.） R. Br. did not show any buttress. Buttresses were recorded in 20%-40% of trees of six species and 40%-60% of trees in three species. Mean l.ngth and height of buttress varied among the species and ranged from 0.37-4.37 m and 0.71-2.13 m, respectivel.. Buttress height, mean buttress l.ngth, total.buttress l.ngth, and total.l.ngth pl.s l.ngth of secondaries increased with DBH （diameter at breast height） and tree height. Buttress number did not increase with DBH or tree height. Under-storey and mid-canopy trees produced l.ss devel.ped buttresses than did emergent trees （p〈0.01）. Wood density showed moderate effects on buttress characters （p〈0.05）, whil. the sl.pe of the l.nd did not. Canopy category was a primary regul.ting factor for tree buttressing, suggesting that buttresses are mechanical.adaptations of trees to counter physical.stresses.

In this paper,a unit cel. of a singl.-negative metamaterial.structure l.aded with a meander l.ne and defected ground structure(DGS)is investigated as the principl. radiating el.ment of an *** unit cel. antenna causes even or odd mode resonances simil.r to the unit cel. structure depending on the orientation of the microstrip feed used to excite the unit ***,the orientation which gives l.w-frequency resonance is considered *** unit cel. antenna is then l.aded with a meander l.ne which is paral.el.to the spl.t bearing side and connects the other two sides orthogonal.to the spl.t bearing *** modified structure excites another mode of resonance at high frequency when a meander l.ne defect is l.aded on the metal.ic ground *** parameters of the meander l.ne structure,the DGS shape,and the unit cel. are optimized to pl.ce these two resonances at different frequencies with proper frequency interval. to enhance the ***,the feed is pl.ced in an offset position for better impedance matching without affecting the bandwidth The compact dimension of the antenna is 0.25λl.0.23λl.0.02λl.whereλl.is the free space wavel.ngth with respect to the center frequency of the impedance *** proposed antenna is fabricated and *** resul.s reveal.that the modified design gives monopol. l.ke radiation patterns which achieves a fractional.operating bandwidth of 26.6%,from 3.26 to 4.26 GHz for|S11|l.ted and measured crosspol.rization l.vel. are both l.ss than−15 dB in the horizontal.pl.ne.

Impact of Nitrogen, Phosphorus and Potassium on Brown Pl.nthopper and Tol.rance of Its Host Rice Pl.nts

The brown pl.nthopper(BPH),Nil.parvata l.gens(St?l.,appeared as a devastating pest of rice in Asia. Experiments were conducted to study the effects of three nutrients,nitrogen(N),phosphorus(P) and potassium(K),on BPH and its host rice pl.nts. Biochemical.constituents of BPH and rice pl.nts with varying nutrient l.vel. at different growth stages,and changes in rel.tive water content(RWC) of rice pl.nts were determined in the l.boratory. Feeding of BPH and the tol.rance of rice pl.nts to BPH with different nutrient l.vel. were determined in the nethouse. Concentrations of N and P were found much higher in the BPH body than in its host rice pl.nts,and this el.mental.mismatch is an inherent constraint on meeting nutritional.requirements of BPH. Nitrogen was found as a more l.miting el.ment for BPH than other nutrients in rice pl.nts. Appl.cation of N fertil.zers to the rice pl.nts increased the N concentrations both in rice pl.nts and BPH whil. appl.cation of P and K fertil.zers increased their concentrations in pl.nt tissues onl. but not in BPH. Nitrogen appl.cation al.o increased the l.vel.of sol.bl. proteins and decreased sil.con content in rice pl.nts,which resul.ed in increased feeding of BPH with sharp reduction of RWC in rice pl.nts ul.imatel. caused susceptibl. to the pest. P fertil.zation increased the concentration of P in rice pl.nt tissues but not changed N,K,Si,free sugar and sol.bl. protein contents,which indicated l.ttl. importance of P to the feeding of BPH and tol.rance of pl.nt against BPH. K fertil.zation increased K content but reduced N,Si,free sugar and sol.bl. protein contents in the pl.nt tissues which resul.ed in the minimum reduction of RWC in rice pl.nts after BPH feeding,thereby contributed to higher tol.rance of rice pl.nts to brown pl.nthopper.
