The effects of recombinant galectins of male and female Hemonchus contortus （Hco-gal-m/f） on the mRNA levels of IL-1β, IL-2, IL-4, IL-6, interferon-γ（IFN-γ）, and tumor necrosis factor-γ （TNF-γ） of goat peripheral blood mononuclear cells （PBMCs） were examined in this study. Blood samples were collected from five randomly selected two-year-old healthy goats. PBMCs were separated and cultured in vitro with varying concentration galectins （Hco-gal-m/f） of 0, 10, 20, and 40 lag mL-L Semi-quantitative reverse transcription RT-PCR was employed to test the synthesis of mRNA. The results showed that the mRNA transcriptions of IL-1β, IL-2, IL-4, IL-6, IFN-γ, and TNF-γ in the PBMCs were inhibited by Hco-galm in a dose-dependent manner. Hco-gal-f inhibited mRNA synthesis of IL- 1β, IL-4, IFN-γ, and TNF-γ of the same cells in similar fashion. The findings suggested that the recombinant galectin proteins of H. contortus could decrease the transcription of cytokines in vitro.

This is an expositive paper reflecting certain viewpoint of intuitionists for the structure of continuum. What we provide is a descriptive theory for Poincaré-type continuum whose first hyperstandard model （PC） was given previously^[3]. Here we construct a new hyperstandard model [PC] instead of （PC）, and present three propositions related to the concept of semi-infinitesimal. Finally, an application of R （non-Cantorian continuum） in Calculus is *** Poincar6＇s intimate bond （IB）; hyperstandard microinterval; semi-infinitesimal; non-punctiform element.

Numerical simulations of gas-solid fluidized beds based on the kinetic theory of granular flow exhibit a significant dependence on domain discretization. Bubble formation, bubble size and shape all vary greatly with the discretization, and the use of an inappropriate scale resolution leads to inaccurate predictions of fluidization hydrodynamics. In this study, grid-independent solutions of the two fluid model were examined by comparing the bed expansions obtained from numerical simulations with experimental results and empirical predictions, based on bubbling fluidized beds of Geldart B particles. Grid indepen- dence was achieved with a grid resolution equal to 18 times the particle diameter. The simulation results were compared with previously published data for verification purposes. The results of this work should provide a guideline for choosing the appropriate grid size and thereby minimize the time and expense associated with large simulations.

AIM:To evaluate the feasibility and the outcome of endoscopic mucosal resection(EMR)for large colorectal tumors exceeding 4 cm(LCRT)undergoing piecemeal resection. METHODS:From January 2005 to April 2008,146 digestive tumors larger than 2 cm were removed with the EMR technique in our *** these,34 tumors were larger than 4 cm and piecemeal resection was carried out on 26 colorectal *** mean age of the patients was 71 *** mean follow-up duration was 12 mo. RESULTS:LCRTs were located in the rectum,left colon,transverse colon and right colon in 58%,15%, 4%and 23%of cases,*** were sessile tumors larger than 4 cm with a mean size of 4.9 cm (4-10 cm).According to the Paris classification,34%of the tumors were typeⅠs,58%typeⅡa,4%typeⅡb and 4%typeⅡ*** examination showed tubulous adenoma in 31%,tubulo-villous adenoma in 27%,villous adenoma in 42%,high-grade dysplasia in38%,in situ carcinoma in 19%of the cases and mucosal carcinoma(m2)in 8%of the *** two cases(7.7%)of procedural bleeding that occurred were managed endoscopically and one small perforation was treated with *** follow-up,recurrence of the tumor occurred in three patients(12%),three of whom received endoscopic treatment. CONCLUSION:EMR for tumors larger than 4 cm is a safe and effective procedure that could compete with endoscopic submucosal dissection,despite providing incomplete histological assessment.

Electric arc furnace dust(EAFD)is a hazardous waste but can also be a potential secondary resource for valuable metals,such as Zn and *** the increased awareness of carbon emission reduction,energy conservation,and environmental protection,hydrometallurgical technologies for the detoxification and resource use of EAFD have been developing *** work summarizes the generation mechanisms,compositions,and characteristics of EAFD and presents a critical review of various hydrometallurgical treatment methods for EAFD,e.g.,acid leaching,alkaline leaching,salt leaching,and pretreatment–enhanced leaching ***,the phase transformation mechanisms of zinc-containing components in acid and alkali solutions and pretreatment processes are ***,two novel combined methods,i.e.,oxygen pressure sulfuric acid leaching combined with composite catalyst preparation,and synergistic roasting of EAFD and municipal solid waste incineration fly ash combined with alkaline leaching,are proposed,which can provide future development directions to completely recycling EAFD by recovering valuable metals and using zinc residue.

A hybrid Cellular Automaton(CA)-Parabolic Thick Needle(PTN)model is developed for the simulation of an equiaxed dendritic *** is implemented by solving conservation equations with the Finite Element(FE)method at two *** the scale of the microstructure,dendritic branches are approximated by a network of *** solute field is computed in the liquid using a FE mesh with minimum size smaller than the diffusion length ahead of the dendrite tips,giving access to a detailed description of each dendrite tip growth velocity as well as solutal interactions between *** the simulation domain scale,volume averaged heat and solute transfers are solved on a coarser FE *** average volumetric fraction of phases is deduced from a field giving the fraction of dendritic microstructure together with a microsegregation *** the PTN themselves grow on CA cells,the dendrite tip growth velocity is transferred to the vertices of the polygon associated to the CA growth ***,the field giving the fraction of dendritic microstructure is deduced from the fraction of CA cells part of the mushy zone,which include cells containing PTN *** of the new multiple scale CAPTN model include solutal interaction between dendrite branches together with long range transfer of heat and solute mass,together with the role of latent heat release on equiaxed solidification.

This paper will discuss the difference between genre fiction and mainstream fiction, the difference between science fiction and other fields of genre fiction, and in particular, the philosophical use of science fiction in our search for a better world. All genres used to be called ″romance″ to distinguish them from ″true″ novels. There were arguments about it in Hawthorne’s The House of Seven Gables and in a heated exchange between H.G. Wells and Henry James. I will talk about this difference. All genre fiction pays attention to the external world, but science fiction is the only one of them that looks forward by being grounded in the present. Is science fiction really a genre? There are some doubts. Science fiction is not about science per se, but about the philosophy of science:the study of the external world and its relation to man. It is ideal for ″thought experiments.″ By exploring possible futures, we cannot only examine our present world, but can see ways in which it can be improved. Hence, science fiction is the search for, if not utopia, then at least a better world. This paper will also discuss the ideas of Kim Stanley Robinson, Ursula K. Le Guin, and others in their search for a better future.
