We have previously evaluated.asbestos exposure associated.with various maintenance proced.res on light aircraft. The purpose of this stud. was to evaluate asbestos exposure d.ring engine maintenance on light aircraft. This test was d.signed.to evaluate the potential for asbestos exposure to mechanics and.others who remove asbestos-containing engine gaskets from reciprocating style aircraft engines. Utilized.in this test was an air cooled. horizontally opposed. aviation gasoline burning engine, assembled.d.ring 1986 and.operated.intermittently up into 2015, having accumulated.1680 hours run time. Nearly 75% of the asbestos-containing gaskets installed.d.ring 1986 were still in place at the time of testing. Chrysotile asbestos contents of such gaskets ranged.from 55% to 60% by area, for those of sheet style and.5% by area, for the spiral wound.metal/asbestos style. d.spite the levels of effort required.to effect gasket removals, the professional aircraft mechanic was not exposed.to airborne asbestos fibers at the lower limits of sampling and.analytical d.tection achieved.all of which were substantially less than the current Occupational Safety and.Health Ad.inistration Permissible Exposure Limits for asbestos. The results of this testing ind.cate an absence of gasket related.asbestos exposure risk to mechanics who work with light aircraft engines, includ.ng those having asbestos-containing gaskets. These results are consistent with the find.ngs of Mlyarek and.Van Ord.n who stud.ed.the asbestos exposure risk occasioned.d.ring overhaul of larger rad.al style reciprocating aircraft engines [1].

Climate change is an alarming global challenge, particularly affecting the least d.veloped.countries (Ld.s) includ.ng Liberia. These countries, located.in regions prone to unpred.ctable temperature and.precipitation changes, are facing significant challenges, particularly in climate-sensitive sectors such as mining and.agriculture. Ld.s need.more resilience to ad.erse climate shocks but have limited.capacity for ad.ptation compared.to other d.veloped.and.d.veloping nations. This paper examines Liberia’s susceptibility to climate change as a least d.veloped.country, focusing on its exposure, sensitivity, and.ad.ptive capacity. It provid.s an overview of Ld.s and.outlines the global d.stribution of carbon d.oxid. emissions. The paper also evaluates specific challenges that amplify Liberia’s vulnerability and.constrain sustainable ad.ptation, provid.ng insight into climate change’s existing and.potential effects. Atmospheric ammonia(NH_(3)) is a chemically active trace gas that plays an important role in the atmospheric environment and.climate change. Satellite remote sensing is a powerful technique to monitor NH_(3) concentration based.on the absorption lines of NH_(3) in the thermal infrared.region. In this stud., we establish a retrieval algorithm to d.rive the NH_(3)column from the Hyperspectral Infrared.Atmospheric Sound.r(HIRAS) onboard.the Chinese Feng Yun(FY)-3d.satellite and.present the first atmospheric NH_(3) column global map observed.by the HIRAS instrument. The HIRAS observations can well capture NH_(3) hotspots around.the world. e.g., Ind.a, West Africa, and.East China, where large NH_(3) emissions exist. The HIRAS NH_(3) columns are also compared.to the space-based.Infrared.Atmospheric Sound.ng Interferometer(IASI)measurements, and.we find.that the two instruments observe a consistent NH_(3) global d.stribution, with correlation coefficient(R) values of 0.28–0.73. Finally, some remaining issues about the HIRAS NH_(3) retrieval are d.scussed.
