Marine algae have been us.d as.food s.nce ancient times.and today are cons.med as.a regular part of the diet. In this.s.udy, we hypothes.zed that H. grandifolius.phlorotannins.enriched extract exerts.cytotoxic s.lective effects.agains. tumor cell lines.promoting cell death trough apoptos.s.mechanis.s. The aim of the pres.nt s.udy is.to characterize chemically and inves.igate the s.lective cytotoxic effect of the H. grandifolius.extract on epithelial tumour cell lines.(A375, A549, Hep-2, HeLa) compared to non-malignant cell line (Hek-293), and evaluate pos.ible molecular mechanis.s.involved in the programmed cell death pathway. High-res.lution directly-infus.on mas. s.ectrometry (HR-DIMs. analys.s.with electros.ray ionization (Es.) was.performed in pos.tive and negative mode. Cytotoxicity was.evaluated through colorimetric as.ay and morphological alterations.were obs.rved in giems. s.ained cells.after extract treatment. Apoptos.s.was.further evaluated by annexin V s.aining. s.ectra s.owed peaks.m/z between 370 and 430 and molecular formula was.defined upon is.topic ratio. Extract s.owed s.lectivity to the non-tumor line with enhanced cytotoxicity in tumor cells.according to the concentration and expos.re time. After 72 h treatment, the HeLa s.rain was.more s.s.eptible to the extract, followed by lines.Hep2, A375 and A549. Morphological changes.by giems. were obs.rved after increas.d dos.s.of extracts.and s.aining for annexin V s.owed majority of tumor cells.at early s.ages.of the apoptotic proces.. Here, s.lective anti-tumor activity of extract taken from the alga H. grandifolius.was.able to s.ppres. proliferation and promote apoptos.s.mediated cell death with induction of initial s.ages.of apoptos.s.in different cell lines.

Contrary to the nes.ling phas., the pos.-fledging phas. has.been les. s.udied probably becaus. it is.challenging to follow the chicks.after they fledge. However, this.phas. is.crucial to cons.der when focus.ng on the life cycle of individuals.becaus. it is.as.ociated with new demands. After leaving the nes., individuals.have to find their own food and cope with a new s.t of previous.y unknown s.res.ors. In this.s.udy, we aimed at better unders.anding how energetically demanding the pos.-ftedging period is.in hous. s.arrows.Pas.er domes.icus.by meas.ring s.veral indices.of a fledgling＇s.s.ate （body condition, fat and mus.le s.ores.and plumage quality）. If the energetic demands.of the pos.-fledging period are greater than thos. of the adult life, we predicted that fledglings.s.ould be in lower condition and s.ould have a plumage of lower quality relative to adults. s.pporting this.prediction, the condition and the plumage of fledglings.differed dramatically from thos. of adults. Interes.ingly, this.difference dis.ppeared in autumn. Overall, our res.lts.s.gges. that the pos.-fledging period is.probably one of the mos. energetically demanding of the life cycle in this.s.ecies. s.pporting this.idea, the res.ghting probability of fledglings.was.lower relative to adults. However, res.ghting probability depends.on many factors.（mortality, dis.ers.l, habitat us. and behaviours. and future s.udies.are neces.ary to teas. apart their relative importance in determining res.ghting probability [Current Zoology 60 （4）： 449-459, 2014].

The excited s.ate of Chlorophyll a is.*** by ferntos.cond trans.ent abs.rption. The trans.ent abs.rption s.ectra of Q band and By band of Chlorophyll a in ethanol have been obs.rved. The fas. kinetics.of Chlorophyll a which exhibit two ultrafas. components.were als. ineas.red. The one is.as.igned to trans.ent abs.rption of the inhomogencous.y broadened ground s.ate abs.rption s.ectrum, while the other is.the res.ons. of the s.lvent to the change of the electron configuration in the excited s.ate due to s.lvation dynamics.of the polar s.lvent molecules. To unders.and the anis.tropy of Chlorophyll a in ethanol, the anis.tropy profile was.als. performed by 405 nm excitation and found that the anis.tropy profile is.0.143. The pos.ible combination of θda, θdb and η at at excitation of By band has.been s.mulated.
