Aim of this study is to assess the reliability, validity and psychometric properties of the Greek language version of the Dysmorphic Concern Questionnaire (DCQ). Method: The Greek language version of the DCQ scale was presented to 88 healthy individuals (57 women and 31 men) and 32 subjects suffering from body dysmorphic disorder BDD (20 women and 12 men) matched for age and sex. All the BDD group subjects and 57 subjects from the healthy individual group were also assessed according to the following psychometric scales: Symptom Checklist-90-R (SCL-90) scale, Eysenck Personality Questionnaire (EPQ), State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI 1 and STAI-2) and the Zung Self-Rating Depression scales. Results: Regarding the DCQ scale, the analysis revealed that one single factor was extracted that accounted for 71.4% of the total variance. Cronbach’s alpha was 0.933, indicating a high level of internal consistency. Comparison between groups, healthy individuals vs BDD patients, showed statistically significant differences in almost every item of the SCL-90 scale (p Conclusion: The Greek version of the Dysmorphic Concern Questionnaire (DCQ) is a valid and reliable instrument, appropriate for both research and clinical settings where dysmorphic concern or body image is a variable which needs to be measured or screened for.

Due to its ubiquitous presence in the environment and the lack of a scientific consensus regarding the environmental safety of the widely used anionic surfactant Sodium Lauryl Sulfate(CAS No:151-21-3),a systematic literature review and thematic analysis was *** studies about sodium lauryl sulfate(SLS)in the environment in key databases were reviewed,with coding methods used to identify impact categories from SLS exposure without potential narration *** on the limited number of studies on SLS,there is empirical evidence of this surfactant contributing to environmental toxicity at various concentrations(0.004-3509 mg L^(-1)),with aquatic organisms at a higher risk from ***,exposure to SLS can elicit changes to various organismic processes and environmental ***,further study on SLS in various environmental compartments is recommended to monitor the level of SLS pollution,understand its behavior upon contact with various environmental media,and understand its impacts on flora and ***,SLS quantification should be done on commonly used consumer products to potentially regulate its use and to consequently curb SLS pollution from its source.

Direct Costs of Diabetes Care in Pediatric Patients with Type 1 Diabetes in Greece

Background: Type 1 diabetes (T1D) is a chronic disease with increasing incidence and major impact on the health care costs. Aim: To estimate the direct cost of pediatric T1D in the Greek National Health System (NHS) and its distribution by service category. Methods: This is a retrospective cost-of-illness study, focusing on the direct costs from the healthcare system’s point of view. All patients aged 0 - 16 years, diagnosed with T1D, who were followed in the Diabetes Outpatients’ Clinic of the University Pediatric Department of one of the two main Pediatric Hospitals in Athens, for a two-year period (1st?January 2011 to 31st December 2012) were included. Results: Total diabetes-related direct costs per person-year were estimated at €2,712 (95% CI 2468 - 2956). Diabetes healthcare provider and education visits including laboratory tests, accounted for only 7.6% of total costs. Cost for hospitalizations was only 1.7%. Medication costs were 17% of total costs and were the highest for multi-injection therapy. Supply costs accounted for 73.7% of the total costs and were the highest for insulin pump therapy (p = 0.000). 12.4% of patients were admitted yearly for diabetes related cause and the mean length of hospitalization was 0.18 days per person-year (95%CI: 0.05 - 0.3). Conclusion: This is a preliminary study based on a single institution’s data, which however constitutes a major referral center, thus dealing with a balanced sample of the Greek pediatric diabetic population. Considering that standards of diabetes care are common throughout the NHS, the management of patients in our hospital represents the common practice for pediatric diabetes in Greece. Data are suggesting that cost for hospitalization and outpatients’ care for T1D patients followed in the public sector was rather low compared to other countries, the medication cost was at similar or lower levels and the cost of supplies was generally higher.

Cointegration of event-related potential (ERP) signals in experiments with different electromagnetic field (EMF) conditions

Due to their non-stationarity, ERP signals are difficult to study. The concept of cointegration might overcome this problem and allow for the study of the co-variability between whole ERP signals. In this context cointegration factor is defined as the ability of an ERP signal to co-vary with other ERP signals. The aim of the present study was to investigate whether the cointegration factor is dependent on different EMF conditions and gender, as well as the locations of the electrodes on the scalp. The findings revealed that women have a significantly higher cointegration factor than men, while all subjects have increased cointegration factors in the presence of EMF. The cointegration factor is location dependent, creating a distinct cluster of high coin- tegration capacity at the central and lateral electrodes of the scalp, in contrast to clusters of low cointegration capacity at the anterior and posterior electrodes There seem to be distinct similarities of the present findings with those from standard methodologies of the ERPs. In conclusion cointegration is a promising tool towards the study of functional interactions between different brain locations.

Managing Hepatitis C Patients in Greece: A Budget Impact Analysis of Simeprevir plus Pegylated Interferon/Ribavirin Regimen at Early Stages of the Disease

Objectives: To identify local resource use such as pharmaceutical treatment, medical follow-up, and patient hospitalization and estimate the budget impact of simeprevir (SMV) plus pegylated interferon (P)/ribavirin (R) as a treatment option in the early stages of the disease in Greece. Methods: A budget impact tool was developed with a two-year time horizon, which estimated the impact on the Social Insurance Funds (SIFs) of introducing SMV + PR in the management of the early disease stages. Total direct and indirect costs were estimated for each of the following health states: non-cirrhotic chronic Hepatitis C (and within that by fibrosis stage), compensated cirrhosis, decompensated cirrhosis, and hepatocellular carcinoma. Data gaps on treatment algorithms, resource use and productivity losses were covered via an expert panel of eight leading hepatologists. Epidemiology data were taken from the published literature. Unit costs were obtained from the Ministry of Health and SIFs. The perspective was that of the SIF and the cost base year was 2015. Results: The total (direct and indirect) cost per patient per year (excluding cost of antiviral treatment) was estimated at €647, €703, €5,753, €16,313 and €37,237 for non-cirrhotic CHC, compensated cirrhosis, decompensated cirrhosis, HCC and liver transplantation, respectively. The budget impact analysis showed that adding SMV to PR in the early stages of the disease would lead to an increase in the cost of antiviral treatment by €2.03 million. Conclusions: Costs of managing CHC increase dramatically with disease severity. SMV + PR for naive patients at early disease stages has a significant but manageable budget impact, and could prevent high costs in advanced stages.
