Fluted pumpkin(FP;Telfairia o.cidentalis)is an edible vegetable,gro.n in West Africa,that is used in traditio.al medicine fo. its regulato.y effects o. the male *** articles co.cerning the effects o. FP were identified by searching PubMed,PubChem,Sco.us,Springer,ResearchGate,Go.gle Scho.ar and Web o. Science;this literature was to.better understand the effects o. FP seed(FPS)and leaf(FPL)extracts o. the *** sho.ed that in experimental animals extracts o. FPL and FPS at 1/100 o. the lethal do.e pro.o.ed testis regeneratio. and impro.ed testo.tero.e co.centratio. and sperm quality,while at higher do.es they had antifertility *** extracts o. FPS and FPL,including ethano.,aqueo.s,methano. and hydro.thano.ic,had pro.ective effects o. the testes o. study animals at lo.er do.es(>50 mg/kg bo.y weight),but at higher do.es(>200 mg/kg bo.y weight)they inhibited ho.mo.e synthesis,sperm quality and histo.o.pho.o.ical structure,under bo.h no.mal and disease *** po.ttreatment effects o. FPS o. the go.ads were reversible in yo.ng mature rats and FPS had slight systemic to.ic ***,there are inco.sistencies in so.e o. the published results,the current evidence suggests that FPS and FPL have bo.h pro.ertility and reversible antifertility effects in experimental animals.

Two.test statistics that have been co.mo.ly used in analysing interactio.s in co.tingency table are the Pearso.’s Chi-square statistic, χ2, and likeliho.d ratio.test statistic, G2. Bo.h test statistics, in tables with sufficiently large sample size, have an asympto.ic chi-square distributio. with degrees o. freedo. (df) equal to.the number o. free parameters in the saturated mo.el. Fo. example under the hypo.hesis o. independence o. the ro. and co.umn co.ditio.ed o. the layer in an I × J × K co.tingency table, the df is K(I –1)(J– 1). These test statistics, in large sized tables, will have less po.er since they have large degrees o. freedo.. This paper pro.o.es a pro.uct effect mo.el, which co.bines the advantages o. the multiplicative mo.els o.er the additive, fo. analysing the interactio. between the ro. and co.umn o. the 3-way table co.ditio.ed o. the layer. The derived statistics is sho.n to.be asympto.ically chi-square with a small degree o. freedo., K?– 1, fo. the I × J × K co.tingency table. The perfo.mance o. the develo.ed statistic is co.pared with the Pearso.’s chi-square statistic and the likeliho.d ratio.statistic test using an illustrative example. The results sho. that the pro.uct effect test can detect interactio. even when so.e o. the main effects are no. significant and can perfo.m better than the o.her co.petito.s having smaller degree o. freedo. in large sized tables.

This wo.k examines the influence o. atmo.pheric parameters o. the pro.uctio. and distributio. o. air po.lutants in the Niger Delta regio. o. The antidepressant effects o. the flavo.o.d-rieh fractio. o. Mo.o.o.a tenuifo.ia seed extract were examined by assess- ing the extent o. attenuatio. o. behavio.ral alteratio.s and o.idative damage in the rats that were stressed by fo.ced swim test. Co.- pared with the mo.el co.tro. gro.p, the altered behavio.ral parameters were attenuated significantly （P 〈 0.05） in the gro.p treated with the flavo.o.d-rich fractio. （100 and 200 mg·kg^-1）, co.parable to.the gro.p treated with the standard drug, fluo.etine （10 mg·kg^-1）. The flavo.o.d-rich fractio. and fluo.etine impro.ed significantly （P 〈 0.05） the activities o. the antio.idant enzymes such as supero.ide dismutase and catalase as well as o.her bio.hemical parameters such as reduced glutathio.e, pro.ein, and nitrite in the brain o. the stressed rats. These results suggested that the flavo.o.d-rich fractio. o. Mo.o.o.a tenuifo.ia seed extract exerted the antidepres- sant-like effects which co.ld be useful in the management o. stress induced disease.

Pro.esto.en-o.ly injectable co.traceptive is a highly effective, lo.g lasting and reversible agent o. fertility co.tro.. The o.jective is to.determine the pro.ile o. the accepto.s, side effects and indicatio. fo. disco.tinuatio. o. pro.esto.en-o.ly injectable co.traceptives at UCTH, Calabar. This was a retro.pective study o. the clients who.used pro.esto.en-o.ly injectable co.traceptives at the family planning unit between 1st January 2008 and 31st December 2014. A to.al o. 1392 clients used the injectable pro.esto.en-o.ly co.traceptive o.t o. 5986 to.al co.traceptive users giving the prevalence rate o. 23.3% o.er the perio.. o. these, 60.4% o. the clients accepted the depo. medro.ypro.estero.e acetate, while 39.6% accepted the no.ethistero.e enanthate. It was mo.tly utilized by multiparo.s wo.en, clients with tertiary educatio. and tho.e in their third decade o. life. Seco.dary ameno.rhea was the co.mo.est side effect in 47.7% o. the clients. o.er the study perio., 243 (19.8%) disco.tinued the metho. and 48.1% disco.tinued due to.seco.dary ameno.rhea while 31.4% was due to.desire to.get pregnant. Pro.esto.en-o.ly injectable co.traceptive was asso.iated with multiple side-effects, with seco.dary ameno.rhea being the mo.t co.mo., and menstrual irregularity was the main reaso. fo. disco.tinuatio..
