Syncope is defined as a transient loss of consciousness due to global cerebral hypoperfusion, accompanied by loss of muscle tone and failure to maintain an active position. Vasovagal syncope (VVS) is the most common presentation of syncope, and its diagnostic criteria include:(1) absence of any other evident etiology for syncope or presyncope,(2) positive response to head-up tilt test with evident vasovagal reaction (hypotension and/or bradycardia), and (3) no concomitant chronic or acute disease [1, 2]. The onset of VVS peaks initially in childhood and adolescence, and accounts for 60%–70% of all syncopal cases. Clinicians pay great attention to syncope among children and adolescents, due to its high prevalence and its impact on patients’ quality of life. Affected individuals often experience mental stress, economic burdens, and accidental bodily injuries related to syncope [2]. While the pathogenesis of VVS is not fully understood, autonomic nervous dysfunction has been identified as a contributing mechanism. The examination of autonomic nervous function can provide important information about patients with syncope.

Intermedin(IMD)or adrenomedullin 2 is a novel peptide related to the calcitonin gene-related peptide(CGRP)*** calcitonin receptor-like receptor/receptor activity modifying proteins,the common receptor complexes of CGRP,IMD exerts a wide range of biological effects,especially regulation of cardiovascular *** processing of a larger IMD precursor yields a series of biologically active C-terminal fragments,IMD1–53,IMD1–47 and IMD8–*** and its receptors are present in the cardiovascular system,and IMD is present at low levels in *** the cardiovascular system,IMD has multiple functions such as regulation of blood pressure and cardiac function,pro-angiogenesis,endothelial barrier function protection,anti-oxidative stress,and anti-endoplasmic reticulum *** participates widely in the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis,hypertension,pulmonary arterial hypertension and vascular *** is a vascular regulatory factor of homeostasis and a vital endogenous protective factor against vascular diseases.

Background The abnormal blood volume regulation is one of the most important pathogenesis in postural tachycardia syndrome in *** study was designed to investigate the plasma atrial natriuretic peptide and antidiuretic hormone levels in postural tachycardia syndrome children,and their associations with the changes in heart rate and blood pressure in head-up *** Twenty-one postural tachycardia syndrome patients （（12±2） years） and 26 healthy children （（12±1） years） were *** to blood pressure changes in head-up test,the postural tachycardia syndrome patients were divided into two subgroups：postural tachycardia syndrome with orthostatic hypertension and postural tachycardia syndrome without orthostatic *** plasma atrial natriuretic peptide and antidiuretic hormone levels were measured using enzyme-linked immunosorbent *** The plasma atrial natriuretic peptide level in postural tachycardia syndrome patients was higher than the control （P=0.004）,whereas the difference in plasma antidiuretic hormone level between postural tachycardia syndrome and controls was not significant （P=0.222）.The plasma antidiuretic hormone level of patients suffering from postural tachycardia syndrome with orthostatic hypertension was much higher than that of children having postural tachycardia syndrome without orthostatic hypertension （P ＜0.05）.In postural tachycardia syndrome patients,the updght max heart rate was positively correlated with the plasma atrial natriuretic peptide level （r=0.490,P＜0.05） and the upright systolic blood pressure was positively correlated with the plasma antidiuretic hormone levels （r=0.472,P ＜0.05）.Conclusions There was a disturbance of plasma atrial natriuretic peptide and antidiuretic hormone in postural tachycardia syndrome children.

The aim of this study was to observe the effects of adrenomedullin (ADM) on endothelin (ET) production induced by urotensin Ⅱ (UⅡ) in rat vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs). Cultured VSMCs which were incubated with UⅡ (10-8 mol/L) and with various concentrations of ADM were used to measure the VSMCs 3H-TdR incorporation, the activity of extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK), the amount of ET mRNA and ET production in VSMCs. In this work we found that incubation with UⅡ (10-8 mol/L) increased obviously the amount of ET mRNA in VSMCs and ET production in medium, however, co-incubation with ADM (10-10-10-8 mol/L) and UⅡ(10-8 mol/L) reduced the amount of ET mRNA by 15%, 24% and 45% (P< 0.01) respectively, compared with UⅡ alone. The content of ET in medium was 14.13, 11.38 and 11.00 pg/mL. ADM alone (10-8 mol/L) had no effect on ET production in VSMCs. Objective To investigate the role of hydrogen sulfide(H_(2)S)synthases/H_(2)S pathway in the pathogenesis of renovascular *** Wistar rats were subdivided into 4 groups:(1)2-kidney,1-clip(2K-1C group,n=7),(2)control(n=7),(3)sham(n=7),and(4)2K-1C plus sodium hydrosulfide(NaHS)(NaHS-treated group,n=7).The systolic blood pressure(SBP)was measured by a tail-cuff method using a pulse transducer once a *** weeks later,all rats were killed and the concentration of plasma hydrogen sulfide(H_(2)S),the activity of the H_(2)S synthases in the kidneys on both sides,the plasma angiotensinⅡconcentration,and the left-to-whole heart weight ratio were *** The SBP was significantly increased in the 2K-1C group(185.4±14.0mmHg)comparing with those in the sham group(112.9±6.5mmHg,,or the NaHS-treated group(134.8±9.5mmHg))(both P<0.01).At 4 weeks,the angiotensinⅡconcentration in the plasma was increased in the 2K-1C and NaHS-treated group,comparing with the control and the sham group(306.92±7.03 pg/ml and 240.73±13.22 pg/ml vs 122.6±25.49 pg/ml and 125.95±10.55 pg/ml,respectively,both P<0.05).The plasma H_(2)S concentration and the activity of H_(2)S synthases in the left kidney were decreased in the 2K-1C group comparing with those in the sham and the control *** was no difference of the activity of the H_(2)S synthases in the right kidneys among the 4 *** left-to-whole heart weight ratio was increased in the 2K-1C and the NaHS-treated group camparing with that in the sham and natural control *** Dysfunction of the H_(2)S synthases/H_(2)S pathway was involved in the 2K-1C-induced renovascular hypertension in *** administration of H_(2)S donor can attenuate the development of *** findings suggest that the H_(2)S synthases/H_(2)S pathway participates in the pathogenesis of renovascular hypertension.

The aim of the study was to investigate the in-teraction between nitric oxygenase (NOS)/ nitric oxide (NO) and heme oxygenase (HO)/ carbon monoxide (CO) system in the pathogenesis of hypoxic pulmonary hypertension. On a rat model of hypoxic pulmonary hypertension, the pulmo-nary artery pressure was measured, and NO formation and expression of NOS in pulmonary tissues were examined after treatment with ZnPP-IX, an HO-1 inhibitor. The pulmonary artery pressure, CO formation and expression of HO-1 in pulmonary tissues were examined after treatment with L-NAME, a NOS inhibitor. We found that pulmonary hy-pertension developed after 2-week hypoxia, while the con-centration of NO in the pulmonary tissue homogenates and the expression of NOS in intrapulmonary artery endothelial cells decreased markedly. ZnPP-IX worsened pulmonary hypertension of hypoxic rats. However, it increased endoge-nous production of NO and the expression of NOS obviously. The concentration of CO in the pulmonary tissue homoge-nates and the expression of HO-1 in intrapulmonary artery smooth muscle cells increased markedly with hypoxic pul-monary hypertension. L-NAME worsened pulmonary hy-pertension of hypoxic rats, but inhibited CO formation and HO-1 expression (P < 0.01). The results of this study sug-gested that endogenous NOS/NO and HO/CO systems might interact with each other and therefore play an important regulating role in hypoxic pulmonary hypertension.
