Impact factors and pathways of halonitromethanes formation from aspartic acid during LED-UV_(265)/chlorine disinfection

Light emitting diode (LED-UV)/chlorine disinfection can replace UV/chlorine disinfection in wastewater treatment plants and water supply plants. Halonitromethanes (HNMs) are a class of novel nitrogenous disinfection by-products, which are characterized by higher cytotoxicity and genotoxicity than regulated disinfection by-products. Herein, the impact factors and pathways of HNMs formation from aspartic acid (ASP) were investigated during LED-UV_(265)/chlorine disinfection. The results showed that three types of chlorinated-HNMs (Cl-HNMs) were found during LED-UV265/chlorine disinfection, and their concentrations increased first and then declined as the reaction progressed. Cl-HNMs yields increased with increasing LED-UV_(265) intensity, free chlorine dosage, and ASP concentration, which declined with increasing pH (6.0–8.0). Meantime, the important impact of the coexisting ions contained in water matrices on HNMs formation from ASP was observed during LED-UV_(265)/chlorine disinfection. It was found that copper ions (Cu^(2+)) promoted Cl-HNMs formation. Furthermore, when bromide (Br–) appeared during LED-UV265/chlorine disinfection, nine types of HNMs were detected simultaneously. Moreover, Br– not only converted Cl-HNMs toward brominated (chlorinated)-HNMs and brominated-HNMs but also showed a marked effect on HNMs concentrations and species. Subsequently, the possible pathways of HNMs formation from ASP were proposed during LED-UV_(265)/chlorine disinfection. At last, it was proved that the formation trends of HNMs obtained in the real waters were similar to those in simulated waters. This work elaborated on the influence factors and pathways of HNMs formation, which is conducive to controlling the HNMs produced during LED-UV_(265)/chlorine disinfection.

Uniform decomposition of velocity gradient tensor

In this paper,the principal decomposition of the velocity gradient tensor[∇v]is discussed in 3 cases based on the discriminant∆:∆0 with 3 distinct real eigen values,and∆=0 with 1 or 2 distinct real eigen values.The velocity gradient tensor can also be classified as rotation point,which can be decomposed into three parts,i.e.,rotation[R],shear[S]and stretching/compression[SC],and non-rotation point,we defined a new resistance term[L],and the tensor can be decomposed into three parts,i.e.,resistance[L],shear[S]and stretching/compression[SC].Example matric are also displayed to demonstrate the new decomposition.Connections of principal decomposition between 3 different cases,and between Resistance and Liutex will also be discussed.

Robust Feedback Set Stabilization of Logic Networks with State-Dependent Uncertain Switching and Control Constraints

This study investigates the robust feedback set stabilization of switched logic control networks(SLCNs)with state-dependent uncertain switching and control constraints.First,based on the properties of the semi-tensor product of matrices and the vector representation of logic,an SLCN with state-dependent uncertain switching and control constraints is expressed in algebraic form.Second,an input transformation and a switching model are constructed to transfer the original SLCN into one with a free control input and arbitrary switching.The equivalence between the set stabilizability of the original SLCN and that of the resulting SLCN is established.Based on such equivalence,the authors propose a necessary and sufficient condition for robust feedback set stabilizability.Finally,an example is presented to demonstrate the application of the results obtained.

Effects of drip and flood irrigation on carbon dioxide exchange and crop growth in the maize ecosystem in the Hetao Irrigation District,China

Drip irrigation and flood irrigation are major irrigation methods for maize crops in the Hetao Irrigation District,Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region,China.This research delves into the effects of these irrigation methods on carbon dioxide(CO_(2))exchange and crop growth in this region.The experimental site was divided into drip and flood irrigation zones.The irrigation schedules of this study aligned with the local commonly used irrigation schedule.We employed a developed chamber system to measure the diurnal CO_(2)exchange of maize plants during various growth stages under both drip and flood irrigation methods.From May to September in 2020 and 2021,two sets of repeated experiments were conducted.In each experiment,a total of nine measurements of CO_(2)exchange were performed to obtain carbon exchange data at different growth stages of maize crop.During each CO_(2)exchange measurement event,CO_(2)flux data were collected every two hours over a day-long period to capture the diurnal variations in CO_(2)exchange.During each CO_(2)exchange measurement event,the biological parameters(aboveground biomass and crop growth rate)of maize and environmental parameters(including air humidity,air temperature,precipitation,soil water content,and photosynthetically active radiation)were measured.The results indicated a V-shaped trend in net ecosystem CO_(2)exchange in daytime,reducing slowly at night,while the net assimilation rate(net primary productivity)exhibited a contrasting trend.Notably,compared with flood irrigation,drip irrigation demonstrated significantly higher average daily soil CO_(2)emission and greater average daily CO_(2)absorption by maize plants.Consequently,within the maize ecosystem,drip irrigation appeared more conducive to absorbing atmospheric CO_(2).Furthermore,drip irrigation demonstrated a faster crop growth rate and increased aboveground biomass compared with flood irrigation.A strong linear relationship existed between leaf area index and light utilization efficiency,irrespective of the irrigation m

Numerical study of the near-wall vortical structures in particle-laden turbulent flow by a new vortex identification method-Liutex

This study investigates turbulent particle-laden channel flows using direct numerical simulations employing the Eulerian-Lagrangian method.A two-way coupling approach is adopted to explore the mutual interaction between particles and fluid flow.The considered cases include flow with particle Stokes number varying from St=2 up to St=100 while maintaining a constant Reynolds number of Reτ=180 across all cases.A novel vortex identification method,Liutex(Rortex),is employed to assess its efficacy in capturing near-wall turbulent coherent structures and their interactions with particles.The Liutex method provides valuable information on vortex strength and vectors at each location,enabling a detailed examination of the complex interaction between fluid and particulate phases.As widely acknowledged,the interplay between clockwise and counterclockwise vortices in the near-wall region gives rise to low-speed streaks along the wall.These low-speed streaks serve as preferential zones for particle concentration,depending upon the particle Stokes number.It is shown that the Liutex method can capture these vortices and identify the location of low-speed streaks.Additionally,it is observed that the particle Stokes number(size)significantly affects both the strength of these vortices and the streaky structure exhibited by particles.Furthermore,a quantitative analysis of particle behavior in the near-wall region and the formation of elongated particle lines was carried out.This involved examining the average fluid streamwise velocity fluctuations at particle locations,average particle concentration,and the normal velocity of particles for each set of particle Stokes numbers.The investigation reveals the intricate interplay between particles and near-wall structures and the significant influence of particles Stokes number.This study contributes to a deeper understanding of turbulent particle-laden channel flow dynamics.

Low-complexity model predictive control of a four-level active neutral point clamped inverter without weighting factors

The four-level active neutral point clamped(ANPC)inverter has become increasingly widely used in the renewable energy indus-try since it offers one more voltage level without increasing the total number of active switches compared to the three-level ANPC inverter.The model predictive current control(MPCC)is a promising control method for multi-level inverters.However,the conven-tional MPCC suffers from high computational complexity and tedious weighting factor tuning in multi-level inverter applications.A low-complexity MPCC without weighting factors for a four-level ANPC inverter is proposed in this paper.The computational burden and voltage vector candidate set are reduced according to the relationship between voltage vector and neutral point voltage balance.The proposed MPCC shows excellent steady-state and dynamics performances while ensuring the neutral point voltage balancing.The efficacy of the proposed MPCC is verified by simulation and experimental results.

Hollow ZIF-67-derived Co@N-doped carbon nanotubes boosting the hydrogenation of phenolic compounds to alcohols

The selective hydrogenation of highly toxic phenolic compounds to generate alcohols with thermal stability,environmental friendliness,and non-toxicity is of great importance.Herein,a series of Co-based catalysts,named Co@NCNTs,were designed and constructed by direct pyrolysis of hollow ZIF-67(HZIF-67)under H_(2)/Ar atmosphere.The evolution of the catalyst surface from the shell layer assembled by ZIF-67-derived particles to the in situ-grown hollow nitrogen-doped carbon nanotubes(NCNTs)with certain length and density is achieved by adjusting the pyrolysis atmosphere and temperature.Due to the synergistic effects of in situ-formed hollow NCNTs,well-dispersed Co nanoparticles,and intact carbon matrix,the as-prepared Co@NCNTs-0.10-450 catalyst exhibits superior catalytic performance in the hydrogenation of phenolic compounds to alcohols.The turnover frequency value of Co@NCNTs-0.10-450is 3.52 h^(-1),5.9 times higher than that of Co@NCNTs-0.40-450 and 4.5 times higher than that of Co@NCNTs-0.10-550,exceeding most previously reported non-noble metal catalysts.Our findings provide new insights into the development of non-precious metal,efficient,and cost-effective metal-organic framework-derived catalysts for the hydrogenation of phenolic compounds to alcohols.

Copper-based nanomaterials as peroxidase candidates for intelligent colorimetric detection and antibacterial applications

With natural polyphenol compound tannic acid(TA)as the ingredient,copper tannate(CuTA)nanolayer material was formed by self-assembly under the conditions of heating and copper ion.Copper ion and tannic acid could coordinate to form Cu-O-C structure which was similar to the Fe-N-C structure of natural heme enzymes.In addition,the obtained CuTA nanomaterial possessed excellent peroxidase-like catalytic activity and stability.Based on this excellent enzymatic activity,CuTA nanomaterials could be used for colorimetric detection of hydrogen peroxide with a smartphone and decomposition of organic dyes.Based on the structural characteristics and catalytic activity,the copper tannate nanozymes could also serve as potential antibacterial reagents to effectively inhibit the growth of gram-negative and positive bacteria in a low hydrogen peroxide level.This work may promote the exploration of novel peroxidase mimetics and broaden the applications of nanozymes.

Carbon dot-based artificial light-harvesting systems with sequential energy transfer and white light emission for photocatalysis

In this work, we designed and synthesized cationic carbon dots(CDs) with a size distribution of 1.6–3.7 nm, which exhibited dark blue fluorescence in the aqueous solution. Based on its excellent luminescence properties, we used it as an energy donor to construct a sequential artificial light-harvesting system(LHS) by employing the energy-matching dyes eosin Y disodium salt(EY) and sulforhodamine101(SR101), which could regulate the white light emission(Commission Internationale de l'Eclairage(CIE) coordinate:(0.30, 0.31)) with the energy transfer efficiency(ΦET) of 53.9% and 20.0%. Moreover, a single-step artificial LHS with white light emission(0.32, 0.28) can be constructed directly using CDs and dye solvent 43(SR) with ΦEtand antenna effect(AE) of 48.8% and 6.5, respectively. More importantly,CDs-based artificial LHSs were firstly used in photocatalytic of α-bromoacetophenone, with a yield of90%. This work not only provides a new strategy for constructing CDs-based LHSs, but also opens up a new application for further applying the energy harvested in CDs-based LHSs to the field of the aqueous solution photocatalysis.

In situ autophagy regulation in synergy with phototherapy for breast cancer treatment

Autophagy is an important factor in reducing the efficacy of tumor phototherapy(including PTT and PDT).Accurate regulation of autophagy in tumor cells is a new strategy to improve the anti-tumor efficiency of PTT/PDT.This project intended to construct a tumor-activated autophagy regulator to efficiently block PTT/PDT-induced autophagy and realize synergistic sensitization to tumor phototherapy.To achieve this goal,we first synthesized TRANSFERRIN(Tf)biomimetic mineralized nano-tellurium(Tf-Te)as photosensitizer and then used disulfide bond reconstruction technology to induce Tf-Te self-assembly.The autophagy inhibitor hydroxychloroquine(HCQ)and iron ions carried by Tf were simultaneously loaded to prepare a tumor-responsive drug reservoir Tf-Te/HCQ.After entering breast cancer cells through the“self-guidance system”,Tf-Te/HCQ can generate hyperpyrexia and ROS under NIR laser irradiation,to efficiently induce PTT/PDT effect.Meanwhile,the disulfide bond broke down in response to GSH,and the nanoparticles disintegrated to release Fe2+and HCQ at fixed points.They simultaneously induce lysosomal alkalinization and increased osmotic pressure,effectively inhibit autophagy,and synergistically enhance the therapeutic effect of phototherapy.In vivo anti-tumor results have proved that the tumor inhibition rate of Tf-Te/HCQ can be as high as 88.6%on 4T1 tumor-bearing mice.This multifunctional drug delivery system might provide a new alternative for more precise and effective tumor phototherapy.
