Characteristics of coal resources in China and statistical analysis and preventive measures for coal mine accidents

In the process of green and smart mine construction under the context of carbon neutrality,China's coal safety situation has been continuously improved in recent years.In order to recognize the development of coal production in China and prepare for future monitoring and prevention of safety incidents,this study mainly elaborated on the basic situation of coal resources and national mining accidents over the past five years(2017-2021),from four dimensions(accident level,type,region,and time),and then proposed the preventive measures based on accident statistical laws.The results show that the storage of coal resources has obvious geographic characteristics,mainly concentrated in the Midwest,with coal resources in Shanxi and Shaanxi accounting for about 49.4%.The proportion of coal consumption has dropped from 70.2%to 56%between 2011 and 2021,but still accounts for more than half of the all.Meanwhile,the accident-prone areas are positively correlated with the amount of coal production.Among different levels of coal mine accidents,general accidents had the highest number of accidents and deaths,with 692 accidents and 783 deaths,accounting for 87.6%and 54.64%respectively.The frequency of roof,gas,and transportation accidents is relatively high,and the number of single fatalities caused by gas accidents is the largest,about 4.18.In terms of geographical distribution of accidents,the safety situation in Shanxi Province is the most severe.From the time distribution of coal mine accidents,the accidents mainly occurred in July and August,and rarely occurred in February and December.Finally,the"4+4"safety management model is proposed,combining the statistical results with coal production in China.Based on the existing health and safety management systems,the manage-ments are divided into four sub-categories,and more specific measures are suggested.

This year （2018） marks the 60th anniversary of the ＂central dogma＂, summarized as ＂DNA makes RNA makes protein＂, which was originally proposed by Francis Crick in 1958. Three years later, messenger RNA was identified as the template of protein synthesis. After 60 years of discovery, including discovery of the split nature of eukaryotic genes （Le., splicing）, it becomes evident that messenger RNAs are not merely messengers, but a hub of co- and post-transcriptional regulation, which is fundamental to amplify the complexity encoded in the genome of higher eukaryotic organisms. The mature forms of RNA of protein-coding genes and their abundance have to be tightly regulated through multiple steps of sophisticated processing, including capping, splicing and polyadenylation. In addition, their function also critically depends on proper localization -- sometimes trafficking to the remote parts of the cell such as dendrites and axons of neurons -- and proper control of their stability. Furthermore, thousands of long and small noncoding RNAs are produced to play a wide range of roles in gene regulation. From our perspective, two overarching goals for RNA biology include （i） characterizing the spatial-temporal regulation of various RNA species and elucidating the underlying regulatory mechanisms; （ii） understanding the functional impact of such regulation on human physiology and disease.

Antidiabetic effect of an engineered bacterium Lactobacillus plantarum-pMG36e-GLP-1 in monkey model

Glucagon-like peptide-1(GLP-1)reduces postprandial hyperglycaemia,but its short half-life inhibits clinical application.The aim of the current study was to evaluate the treatment efforts of an engineered strain,Lactobacillus plantarum-pMG36e-GLP-1(L.plantarum-pMG36e-GLP-1),that continuously expresses GLP-1 in spontaneous type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM)monkeys.After 7 weeks of oral supplementation with L.plantarum-pMG36e-GLP-1,the fasting blood glucose(FPG)of monkeys was significantly(p<0.05)reduced to a normal level and only a small amount of weight was lost.The results of metagenomic sequencing showed that L.plantarum-pMG36e-GLP-1 caused a substantial(p<0.05)reduction in the intestinal pathogen Prevotella and marked enhancement of butyrate-producing Alistipes genera.According to the functional analysis using Kyoto Encyclopaedia of Genes and Genomes(KEGG)pathways,19 metabolism-related pathways were significantly enriched in T2DM monkeys after treatment with L.plantarum-pMG36e-GLP-1.LC-MS faecal metabolomics analysis found 41 significant differential metabolites(11 higher and 30 lower)in monkeys after treatment pathways linked to the metabolism of cofactors and vitamins were the most relevant.The present study suggests that L.plantarum-pMG36e-GLP-1 had an impact on the gut microbial composition and faecal metabolomic profile in spontaneous T2DM monkeys and may be a novel candidate for diabetes treatment.

Enterovirus 71(EV71)poses a serious threat to human health,with scattered outbreaks worldwide.There are several vaccines against a few EV71 strains but no efficient drug for the treatment of EV71 infection.Therefore,it is urgent and of significance to develop anti-EV71 drugs.Here,we found that PLX8394,a RAF inhibitor,possesses high antiviral activity against EV71 in vitro,being superior to the traditional clinical drug ribavirin.Moreover,PLX8394 exhibits broad-spectrum antiviral activity against enteroviruses.Notably,in a suckling mouse model,PLX8394 provided a 70%protection rate for EV71-infected mice,reduced the viral load in liver and heart tissues,and relieved the inflammatory response.A mechanistic study showed that PLX8394 inhibited EV71 by suppressing the RAF/MEK/ERK signaling pathway.Thus,PLX8394 lays a foundation for the development of new drugs against EV71.

Li metal has been regarded as one of the most promising anodes for high-energy-density storage systems due to its high theoretical capacity and lowest electrochemical potential.Unfortunately,an unstable and non-uniform solid electrolyte interphase(SEI)deriving from the spontaneous reaction between Li metal anode and electrolyte causes uneven Li deposition,resulting in the growth of Li dendrites and low Coulombic efficiency,which have greatly hindered the practical application of Li metal batteries.Thus,the construction of a stable SEI is an effective approach to suppress the growth of Li dendrites and enhance the electrochemical performances of Li metal anode.In this review,we firstly introduce the formation process of inferior SEI of Li metal anode and the corresponding challenges caused by the unstable SEI.Next,recent progresses to modify SEI layer through the regulation of electrolyte compositions and exsitu protective coating are summarized.Finally,the remained issues,challenges,and perspectives are also proposed on the basis of current research status and progress.

Regression analysis of major parameters affecting the intensity of coal and gas outbursts in laboratory

Estimating the intensity of outbursts of coal and gas is important as the intensity and frequency of outbursts of coal and gas tend to increase in deep mining. Fully understanding the major factors contributing to coal and gas outbursts is significant in the evaluation of the intensity of the outburst. In this paper, we discuss the correlation between these major factors and the intensity of the outburst using Analysis of Variance(ANOVA) and Contingency Table Analysis(CTA). Regression analysis is used to evaluate the impact of these major factors on the intensity of outbursts based on physical experiments. Based on the evaluation, two simple models in terms of multiple linear and nonlinear regression were constructed for the prediction of the intensity of the outburst. The results show that the gas pressure and initial moisture in the coal mass could be the most significant factors compared to the weakest factor-porosity. The P values from Fisher's exact test in CTA are: moisture(0.019), geostress(0.290), porosity(0.650), and gas pressure(0.031). P values from ANOVA are moisture(0.094), geostress(0.077), porosity(0.420), and gas pressure(0.051). Furthermore, the multiple nonlinear regression model(RMSE: 3.870) is more accurate than the linear regression model(RMSE: 4.091).

Localization and validation of an urbanized high-resolution land data assimilation system(u-HRLDAS)

This paper uses an urbanized high-resolution land data assimilation system(u-HRLDAS) to parameterize the urban land surface characteristics.The u-HRLDAS model is localized and developed in order to satisfy the need of the weather forecast in Beijing,China.The remote sensing data used to localize and drive u-HRLDAS include the soil type data and MODIS retrieved leaf area index(LAI) data.The evaporation and water depth for impervious surface in urban area are developed to improve the simulation of u-HRLDAS.The result of the urban weather forecast is used for the comparison based on the rapid update cycle system at Beijing Meteorological Bureau(BJ-RUC) without coupled with u-HRLDAS.The land surface temperature,land surface fluxes,and first layer soil moisture in several single sites and urban Beijing region by BJ-RUC are compared with u-HRLDAS after localization and development.The off-line simulation results indicate that compared with BJ-RUC,after the localization and development,u-HRLDAS can improve the simulation of land surface parameters and fluxes definitely.

The outbreak of a novel coronavirus disease(COVID-19,caused by the 2019-nCoV infection)in December 2019 is one of the most severe public health emergencies since the founding of People’s Republic of China in 1949.Healthcare personnel(HCP)nationwide are facing heavy workloads and high risk of infection,especially those who care for patients in Hubei Province.Sadly,as of February 20,2020,over two thousand COVID-19 cases are confirmed among HCP from 476 hospitals nationwide,with nearly 90%of them from Hubei Province.Based on literature search and interviews with some HCP working at Wuhan,capital city of Hubei,we have summarized some of the effective measures taken to reduce infection among HCP,and also made suggestions for improving occupational safety during an infectious disease outbreak.The experience and lessons learned should be a valuable asset for international health community to contain the ongoing COVID-19 epidemic around the world.
