Reprogramming of metabolism is a hallmark of tumors,which has been explored for therapeutic purposes.Prostate cancer(PCa),particularly advanced and therapy-resistant PCa,displays unique metabolic properties.Targeting metabolic vulnerabilities in PCa may benefit patients who have exhausted currently available treatment options and improve clinical outcomes.Among the many nutrients,glutamine has been shown to play a central role in the metabolic reprogramming of advanced PCa.In addition to amino acid metabolism,glutamine is also widely involved in the synthesis of other macromolecules and biomasses.Targeting glutamine metabolic network by maximally inhibiting glutamine utilization in tumor cells may significantly add to treatment options for many patients.This review summarizes the metabolic landscape of PCa,with a particular focus on recent studies of how glutamine metabolism alterations affect therapeutic resistance and disease progression of PCa,and suggests novel therapeutic strategies.

Detection of a unicentric type of Castleman-like mass at the site of adrenal grand: A case report and review of literature

We present a case of adrenal CD in a 26-year-old female.The patient was referred to our hospital because of left flank pain for 1 wk.A computed tomography scan revealed a 4 cm×3 cm well-defined mass,considered as a paraganglioma.A preoperative diagnosis of left adrenal neoplasm and urinary tract infection was made.The patient underwent anti-inflammatory therapy followed by an open operation to remove the mass in the left adrenal.Through analysis of the morphological pattern and immunohistochemical markers,a diagnosis of CD was made.During the 12-mo follow-up,there was no evidence of metastasis or recurrence.This case reminds clinicians that CD should be considered in the evaluation of an adrenal mass.Surgery is suggested for its therapeutic management.

Dear Editor, We read with great interest in the recent paper by Terada et al.,1 named ＂Cyr61 is a potential prognostic marker for prostate cancer＂ published in Asian Journal of Andrology and the paper by Schmitz et al.2 entitled ＂Cyr61/CCN1 affects the integrin mediated migration of prostate cancer cells （PC-3） in vitro＂ These elegant studies have revealed that Cyr61 has a clear impact on the PC-3 cell migration through alteration of the functions of integrin.

Dear Editor, Benign prostatic hyperplasia （BPH） and prostate cancer （PCa） are the two most common prostatic disorders affecting elderly males and represent significant burdens for health-care systems worldwide.1 BPH and PCa exhibit important differences in terms of histology and localization, and to date, no causal relationship between the two prostatic diseases has been demonstrated, but BPH and PCa indeed share traits such as androgen-dependent growth and response to hormonal therapy.

Identifying the role of apolipoprotein A-I in prostate cancer

Although localized prostate cancer(PCa)can be cured by prostatectomy and radiotherapy,the development of effective therapeutic approaches for advanced prostate cancer,including castration-resistant PCa(CRPC)and neuroendocrine PCa(NEPC),is lagging far behind.Identifying a novel prognostic and diagnostic biomarker for early diagnosis and intervention is an urgent clinical need.Here,we report that apolipoprotein A-I(ApoA-I),the major component of high-density lipoprotein(HDL),is upregulated in PCa based on both bioinformatics and experimental evidence.The fact that advanced PCa shows strong ApoA-I expression reflects its potential role in driving therapeutic resistance and disease progression by reprogramming the lipid metabolic network of tumor cells.Molecularly,ApoA-I is regulated by MYC,a frequently amplified oncogene in late-stage PCa.Altogether,our findings have revealed a novel indicator to predict prognosis and recurrence,which would benefit patients who are prone to progress to metastasis or even NEPC,which is the lethal subtype of PCa.

Dear Editor,Tuberculosis （TB） is an important health problem for global population and genitourinary TB is one of the most common extra-pulmonary TB. The clinical manifestations of renal TB tend to be low symptoms recently, which may lead to misdiagnosis and risk of renal function loss. How to improve the diagnosis rate of renal TB with low symptoms is an urgent issue to tackle. Therefore, in this study, 157 renal TB patients were collected to study for improving the diagnosis and treatment of renal TB especially for renal TB with low symptoms.

Association between the rs1042522 polymorphism in TP53 and prostate cancer risk:An updated meta-analysis

ObjectiveThe proposal of the present study was to investigate whether the TP53 rs1042522 polymorphism confers susceptibility to prostate cancer (PCa), by performing an updated meta-analysis.MethodsEligible publications investigating the association between the TP53 rs1042522 polymorphism and PCa susceptibility were selected from PubMed, Google Scholar, and Web of Science. We used STATA 12.0 software to conduct the analyses. Odds ratio (OR) with 95% confidence interval (CI) was calculated.ResultsA total of 17 case–control studies were retrieved reporting a total of 2683 cases and 2981 controls. However, no significant association was uncovered between the TP53 rs1042522 polymorphism and PCa susceptibility in the overall population under the five genetic models. In the stratification analysis by source of control, an increased susceptibility to PCa was identified in the population-based (P-B) group (CG vs. GG: OR = 1.48, 95% CI: 1.24–1.77, P ConclusionThis study did not find an association between the TP53 rs1042522 polymorphism and PCa susceptibility in the overall population and corresponding subgroup analyses except in the stratification analysis by source of control. The results suggest that the TP53 rs1042522 polymorphism is not a risk factor for PCa.

Influence of age on seven putative prostate tumor markers： a cohort study in Chinese men

The accuracy and sensitivity of prostate-specific antigen （PSA） for prostate cancer diagnosis is often poor; however, the reasons for its inaccuracy have rarely been investigated, especially with respect to age. In this study, 476 healthy males, aged 10-89 years, were stratified into eight age groups, and levels of seven markers were determined： total PSA （tPSA）, free PSA （fPSA）, %fPSA, isoform [-2]proPSA （p2PSA）, p2PSA/tPSA, %p2PSA, and the prostate health index （PHI）. Both tPSA and fPSA levels increased with age. The tPSA level was highest （1.39 ng m1-1） at 70-79 years; %fPSA was highest （0.57 ng ml-1） at 10-19 years; and %p2PSA was lowest （18.33 ng ml-1） at 40-49 years. Both p2PSA and p2PSA/tPSA had relatively flat curves and showed no correlation with age （P = 0.222）. PHI was a sensitive age-associated marker （P 〈 0.05）, with two peaks and one trough. The coverage rates and radiance graphs of PHI and %p2PSA were more distinctive than those of tPSA and the other markers. In subjects older than 69 years, PHI and %p2PSA both began to decrease, approximately 10 years earlier than the decrease in tPSA. Our results suggest that the clinical diagnosis of prostate cancer using PSA should be investigated more comprehensively based on patient age. Moreover, %p2PSA and PHI could be considered as earlier markers that may be more suitable than PSA alone.

ASICla contributes to the symptom of pain in a ra＇ model of chronic prostatitis

This study aims to validate our hypothesis that acid-sensing ion channels （ASICs） may contribute to the symptom of pain in patients with chronic prostatitis （CP）. We first established a CP rat model, then isolated the L5-S2 spinal dorsal horn neurons for further studies. ASICla was knocked down and its effects on the expression of neurogenic inflammation-related factors in the dorsal horn neurons of rat spinal cord were evaluated. The effect of ASICla on the Ca2＋ ion concentration in the dorsal horn neurons of rat spinal cord was measured by the intracellular calcium （[Ca~＊]i） intensity. The effect of ASICla on the p38/mitogen-activated protein kinase （MAPK） signaling pathway was also determined. ASICla was significantly upregulated in the CP rat model as compared with control rats. Acid-induced ASICla expression increased [Ca2＋]i intensity in the dorsal horn neurons of rat spinal cord. ASICla also increased the levels of neurogenic inflammation-related factors and p-p38 expression in the acid-treated dorsal horn neurons. Notably, ASICla knockdown significantly decreased the expression of pro-inflammatory cytokines. Furthermore, the levels of p-p38 and pro-inflammatory cytokines in acid-treated dorsal horn neurons were significantly decreased in the presence of PcTx-1, BAPTA-AM, or SB203580. Our results showed that ASIC1a may contribute to the symptom of pain in patients with CP, at least partially, by regulating the p38/MAPK signaling pathway.

Dear Editor, Anejaculation is a rare ejaculatory disorder in men （1%-4% of sexually active men） that can cause male factor infertility.1 Although these patients are generally healthy individuals that may have erections and nocturnal emissions, they cannot ejaculate. As we all know, there is evidence that the etiology of ejaculatory dysfunction is partially genetic, especially related to serotonergic genes.2 Here, we report two polymorphic regions in serotonin transporter （5-HTT） gene for the first time in three Chinese males with anejaculation.
