Development and Quality Analysis of Malus prunifolia Jam

In order to develop the nutrition and unique flavor of Malus prunifolia jam, the process optimization and product development were used by Box-Behnken response surface method with the addition of Malus prunifolia pulp, honey pomelo peel pectin, white sugar and concentration time as factors and sensory scores as response values. The sensory indexes, physical and chemical indexes, microbial indexes and quality characteristics of the finished products were measured. The results showed that the optimum processing conditions of the Malus prunifolia jam were 77.7% of the Malus prunifolia pulp, 5.0% of the honey pomelo peel pectin, 17.3% of the white sugar, and the concentration time was 17 min. The results of sensory indexes showed that the Malus prunifolia jam made under the optimized conditions were tasted sweet and sour, and presented bright red orange color. Physicochemical index results showed that pH of Malus prunifolia jam was 4.41, total acid content was 5.14%, total flavone content was 31.40 mg/100 g, total sugar content was 10.26%, soluble solid content was 40.61%, vitamin C content was 7.61 mg/g. The results of microbiological index showed that the total number of bacterial colonies was 50 CFU/g, mold, coliform and Staphylococcus aureus were not detected. The results of quality characteristics showed that the Malus prunifolia jam belonged to pseudoplastic fluid, the storage modulus (G') and loss modulus (G") of Malus prunifolia jam increased with the increase of oscillation frequency, and G'>G", showing the characteristics of elastic viscoelastic body. And the most volatile flavor compounds were α-farnesene, methylheptenone and 2, 4-di-tert-butylphenol. The development of Malus prunifolia jam has a certain significance to enrich the product types of Malus prunifolia, improve the edible convenience of Malus prunifolia and promote the development of the industrial chain of Malus prunifolia. © 2024 Editorial Department of Science and Technology of Food Science. GNAS mutations suppress cell invasion by activating MEG3 in growth hormone–secreting pituitary adenoma

Approximately 30%–40%of growth hormone–secreting pituitary adenomas(GHPAs)harbor somatic activating mutations in GNAS(αsubunit of stimulatory G protein).Mutations in GNAS are associated with clinical features of smaller and less invasive tumors.However,the role of GNAS mutations in the invasiveness of GHPAs is unclear.GNAS mutations were detected in GHPAs using a standard polymerase chain reaction(PCR)sequencing procedure.The expression of mutation-associated maternally expressed gene 3(MEG3)was evaluated with RT-qPCR.MEG3 was manipulated in GH3 cells using a lentiviral expression system.Cell invasion ability was measured using a Transwell assay,and epithelial–mesenchymal transition(EMT)-associated proteins were quantified by immunofluorescence and western blotting.Finally,a tumor cell xenograft mouse model was used to verify the effect of MEG3 on tumor growth and invasiveness.The invasiveness of GHPAs was significantly decreased in mice with mutated GNAS compared with that in mice with wild-type GNAS.Consistently,the invasiveness of mutant GNASexpressing GH3 cells decreased.MEG3 is uniquely expressed at high levels in GHPAs harboring mutated GNAS.Accordingly,MEG3 upregulation inhibited tumor cell invasion,and conversely,MEG3 downregulation increased tumor cell invasion.Mechanistically,GNAS mutations inhibit EMT in GHPAs.MEG3 in mutated GNAS cells prevented cell invasion through the inactivation of the Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway,which was further validated in vivo.Our data suggest that GNAS mutations may suppress cell invasion in GHPAs by regulating EMT through the activation of the MEG3/Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway.

In 2022,a global outbreak of Mpox(formerly monkeypox)occurred in various countries across Europe and America and rapidly spread to more than 100 countries and regions.The World Health Organization declared the outbreak to be a public health emergency of international concern due to the rapid spread of the Mpox virus.Consequently,nations intensified their efforts to explore treatment strategies aimed at combating the infection and its dissemination.Nevertheless,the available therapeutic options for Mpox virus infection remain limited.So far,only a few numbers of antiviral compounds have been approved by regulatory authorities.Given the high mutability of the Mpox virus,certain mutant strains have shown resistance to existing pharmaceutical interventions.This highlights the urgent need to develop novel antiviral drugs that can combat both drug resistance and the potential threat of bioterrorism.Currently,there is a lack of comprehensive literature on the pathophysiology and treatment of Mpox.To address this issue,we conducted a review covering the physiological and pathological processes of Mpox infection,summarizing the latest progress of anti-Mpox drugs.Our analysis encompasses approved drugs currently employed in clinical settings,as well as newly identified small-molecule compounds and antibody drugs displaying potential antiviral efficacy against Mpox.Furthermore,we have gained valuable insights from the process of Mpox drug development,including strategies for repurposing drugs,the discovery of drug targets driven by artificial intelligence,and preclinical drug development.The purpose of this review is to provide readers with a comprehensive overview of the current knowledge on Mpox.

Mechanism and control of nonuniform phase transformation of microalloyed dual-phase steel during cooling process after hot rolling

After cooling in the hot rolling process,the metallographic structure of microalloyed dual-phase steel is nonuniform along the rolling direction,while the thickness fluctuation of microalloyed dual-phase steel with a nonuniform metallographic structure will occur during cold rolling.The mechanism of nonuniform phase transformation of microalloyed dual-phase steels was studied during the cooling process after hot rolling,and the nonuniform phase transformation of microalloyed dual-phase steel was regulated during the cooling process after hot rolling through process optimization.First,the empirical equation of phase transformation temperature was measured by a dilatometer considering thermal expansion.Then,the phase field and temperature field of laminar cooling process were calculated to provide initial boundary conditions for the finite element model.After that,the coupling finite element model of the temperature phase transformation of the strip steel in coiling transportation process was established.The simulation results show that the different thermal contact conditions of the microalloyed dual-phase steel during coil transportation lead to uneven cooling of the coil,which leads to nonuniform transformation of the coil along the rolling direction.In addition,by prolonging the time interval from coiling to unloading,the phenomenon of nonuniform phase transformation of microalloyed dual-phase steel can be effectively controlled.The simulation results are applied to industrial production.The application results show that prolonging the time interval from coiling to unloading can effectively improve the nonuniform phase transformation of microalloyed dual-phase steel in the cooling process after hot rolling.

The high-energy-density and low-cost features endow lithium-sulfur batteries with broad application prospects.However,many drawbacks,especially the detrimental shuttle effect,have hindered the further development of LSBs.In response,a lot of new structures have been applied to suppress the shuttle effect and promote the development of LSBs.Recently,vacancy engineering has gained the attention of researchers due to its unique electronic structure.This review aims to analyze the application of vacancy engineering in LSBs.Firstly,the electrochemistry of LSBs has been systematically discussed and the existing challenges as well as improvement tactics of LSBs have also been presented.Subsequently,the preparation methods and characterization technologies of various vacancies are summarized,including oxygen vacancies,sulfur vacancies,selenium vacancies,other anion vacancies,cation vacancies,etc.The latest applications of vacancy engineering in LSBs are also summarized in this review.Finally,some prospects and insights for further investigation and practical application of vacancy engineering in LSBs are put forward.

MAPK4 facilitates angiogenesis by inhibiting the ERK pathway in non-small cell lung cancer

Statistical Channel Modeling for Indoor VLC Communications Based on Channel Measurements

Visible light communication(VLC)has attracted much attention in the research of sixthgeneration(6G)systems.Furthermore,channel modeling is the foundation for designing efficient and robust VLC systems.In this paper,we present extensive VLC channel measurement campaigns in indoor environments,i.e.,an office and a corridor.Based on the measured data,the large-scale fading characteristics and multipath-related characteristics,including omnidirectional optical path loss(OPL),K-factor,power angular spectrum(PAS),angle spread(AS),and clustering characteristics,are analyzed and modeled through a statistical method.Based on the extracted statistics of the above-mentioned channel characteristics,we propose a statistical spatial channel model(SSCM)capable of modeling multipath in the spatial domain.Furthermore,the simulated statistics of the proposed model are compared with the measured statistics.For instance,in the office,the simulated path loss exponent(PLE)and the measured PLE are 1.96and 1.97,respectively.And,the simulated medians of AS and measured medians of AS are 25.94°and 24.84°,respectively.Generally,the fact that the simulated results fit well with measured results has demonstrated the accuracy of our SSCM.

Thermomorphogenesis and the heat shock(HS)response are distinct thermal responses in plants that are regulated by PHYTOCHROME-INTERACTING FACTOR 4(PIF4)and HEAT SHOCK FACTOR A1s(HSFA1s),respectively.Little is known about whether these responses are interconnected and whether they are activated by similar mechanisms.An analysis of transcriptome dynamics in response to warm temperature(28℃)treatment revealed that 30 min of exposure activated the expression of a subset of HSFA1 target genes in Arabidopsis thaliana.Meanwhile,a loss-of-function HSFA1 quadruple mutant(hsfa1-cq)was insensitive to warm temperature-induced hypocotyl growth.In hsfa1-cq plants grown at 28℃,the protein and transcript levels of PIF4 were greatly reduced,and the circadian rhythm of many thermomorphogenesis-related genes(including PIF4)was disturbed.Additionally,the nuclear localization of HSFA1s and the binding of HSFA1d to the PIF4 promoter increased following warm temperature exposure,whereas PIF4 overexpression in hsfa1-cq partially rescued the altered warm temperature-induced hypocotyl growth of the mutant.Taken together,these results suggest that HSFA1s are required for PIF4 accumulation at a warm temperature,and they establish a central role for HSFA1s in regulating both thermomorphogenesis and HS responses in Arabidopsis.

Importance of oxygen-containing functionalities and pore structures of biochar in catalyzing pyrolysis of homologous poplar

Biochar and bio-oil are produced simultaneously in one pyrolysis process,and they inevitably contact and may interact,influencing the composition of bio-oil and modifying the structure of biochar.In this sense,biochar is an inherent catalyst for pyrolysis.In this study,in order to investigate the influence of functionalities and pore structures of biochar on its capability for catalyzing the conversion of homologous volatiles in bio-oil,three char catalysts(600C,800C,and 800AC)produced via pyrolysis of poplar wood at 600 or 800℃or activated at 800℃,were used for catalyzing pyrolysis of homologous poplar wood at 600℃,respectively.The results indicated that the 600C catalyst was more active than 800C and 800AC for catalyzing cracking of volatiles to form more gas(yield increase by 40.2%)and aromatization of volatiles to form more light or heavy phenolics,due to its abundant oxygen-containing functionalities acting as active sites.The developed pores of the 800AC showed no such catalytic effect but could trap some volatiles and allow their further conversion via sufficient aromatization.Nevertheless,the interaction with the volatiles consumed oxygen on 600C(decrease by 50%),enhancing the aromatic degree and increasing thermal stability.The dominance of deposition of carbonaceous material of a very aromatic nature over 800C and 800AC resulted in net weight gain and blocked micropores but formed additional macropores.The in situ diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier transform spectroscopy characterization of the catalytic pyrolysis indicated superior activity of 600C for removal of -OH,while conversion of the intermediates bearing C=O was enhanced over all the char catalysts.

Spatiotemporal mapping of(ultra‐)mafic magmatic mine areas:Implications of economic and political realities in China

The spatiotemporal extension/expansion of mine areas is affected by multiple factors.So far,very little has been done to examine the interaction between mine areas and political or economic realities.The(ultra‐)mafic magmatic mines in China played a specific role in supporting national development and providing an ideal research subject for monitoring their interrelationship.In this study,remote sensing and mining‐related GIS data were used to identify and analyze 1233(ultra‐)mafic magmatic mine area polygons in China,which covered approximately 322.96 km2 of land and included a V–Ti–Fe mine,a copper–nickel mine,a chromite mine,an asbestos mine,and a diamond mine.It was found that(1)the areal expansion of mines is significantly related to the mine types,perimeter,topography,and population density.(2)The mine area variation also reflects market and policy realities.The temporal expansion of the mine area from 2010 to 2020 followed an S‐shaped pattern(with the turning point occurring in 2014),closely related to iron overcapacity and tightened mining policies.(3)The complexity(D)of the mine area may reflect mine design and excavation practices.To be specific,lower D indicates early‐stage or artisanal/small‐scale mining,whereas higher D represents large‐scale mining.This study demonstrates that the detailed mapping of mine land can serve as an indicator to implement miningrelated market and policy changes.The(ultra‐)mafic mines area data set can be accessed at https://***/record/7636616#.Y-p0uXaZOa0.
