Water Storage of Water-Based Enhanced Geothermal System Based on a 3D Thermal-Hydrologic-Mechanical Model

The thermal-hydrologic-mechanical(THM)coupled processes in water-based enhanced geothermal system(EGS)greatly influence the heat extraction performance of *** THM models have been proposed,however,there is a lack of detailed analysis of water storage,which is caused by the increments of reservoir porosity and water density,and the influence of water storage on the heat extraction performance needs to be *** this paper,a 3D THM model is established to simulate the water storage amount and heat extraction rate for a water-based *** 3D THM model is verified against an analytical ***,the influences of water storage are investigated,and comparisons between the THM and thermal-hydrologic(TH)processes are made for different initial reservoir *** results show that the increment of reservoir porosity has a larger influence on water storage than that of water *** ignoring water storage,the injection flow rate would be underestimated,while the production flow rate and heat extraction rate would be overestimated,and the reservoir would be cooled a little *** with the TH processes,the THM processes show larger cumulative water storage amount,higher steady-state heat extraction rate and higher cooling rate of reservoir,indicating that mechanical process has important influences on EGS *** higher initial reservoir porosity,the cumulative water storage amount is *** can be inferred that the water storage amount is related to the cooling rate of *** results of this paper show that water storage has a certain influence on the heat extraction rate,and that the mechanical process and initial reservoir porosity have important effects on the water storage amount,which should be simulated based on a THM model.

Characteristics of Gas-Liquid Slug Flow in Microchannel by Instantaneous Liquid Film Thickness Measurement

This paper seeks to decipher the exact relationship between the liquid film thickness and the hydrodynamics of gas-liquid slug flows. An instantaneous measurement system is developed by integrating the laser focus displacement meter(LFDM) and high-speed camera to characterize the temporal evolution of the liquid film and the dynamic characteristics of continuous slug flows. A glass tube with internal diameter of 0.75 mm is used and the tested ranges of superficial gas and liquid velocities are 0.01–1.2 m/s and 0.01–0.09 m/s respectively. The non-zero signals of LFDM representing the bubble slug flows changed from regular periodic intervals to chaotic fluctuations when slug-annular flow pattern appears. The dominant frequencies of the periodic intermittent slug flows increased from about 0.5–2 Hz to nearly 10–20 Hz as the superficial gas velocity rised from 0.025 to 0.78 m/s. The bubble and liquid slug lengths calculated by the time interval of liquid film thickness and bubble velocity correlated well with the empirical model. Meantime, the average value of void fraction derived from the calculation of transient liquid film thickness shows a linear growth with the gas holdup ratio.

Deep reinforcement learning for wind and energy storage coordination in wholesale energy and ancillary service markets

Wind energy has been increasingly adopted to mitigate climate ***,the variability of wind energy causes wind curtailment,resulting in considerable economic losses for wind farm *** curtailment can be reduced using battery energy storage systems(BESS)as onsite backup ***,this auxiliary role may significantly weaken the economic potential of BESS in energy *** BESS scheduling should balance onsite wind curtailment reduction and market bidding,but practical implementation is challenging due to coordination complexity and the stochastic nature of energy prices and wind *** investigate the joint-market bidding strategy of a co-located wind-battery system in the spot and Regulation Frequency Control Ancillary Service *** propose a novel deep reinforcement learning-based approach that decouples the system’s market participation into two related Markov decision processes for each facility,enabling the BESS to absorb onsite wind curtailment while performing joint-market bidding to maximize overall operational *** realistic wind farm data,we validated the coordinated bidding strategy,with outcomes surpassing the optimization-based benchmark in terms of higher revenue by approximately 25%and more wind curtailment reduction by 2.3 *** results show that joint-market bidding can significantly improve the financial performance of wind-battery systems compared to participating in each market *** also show that using curtailed wind generation as a power source for charging the BESS can lead to additional financial *** successful implementation of our algorithm would encourage co-location of generation and storage assets to unlock wider system benefits.

ComR:a combined OWL reasoner for ontology classification

Ontology classification,the problem of computing the subsumption hierarchies for classes (atomic concepts),is a core reasoning service provided by Web Ontology Language (OWL)*** general-purpose OWL 2 reasoners employ sophisticated optimizations for classification,they are still not efficient owing to the high complexity of tableau algorithms for expressive ontologies. Profile-specific OWL 2 EL reasoners are efficient;however, they become incomplete even if the ontology contains only a small number of axioms that are outside the OWL 2 EL *** this paper,we present a technique that combines an OWL 2 EL reasoner with an OWL 2 reasoner for ontology classification of expressive *** optimize the workload,we propose a task decomposition strategy for identifying the minimal non-EL subontology that contains only necessary axioms to ensure *** the ontology classification,the bulk of the workload is delegated to an efficient OWL 2 EL reasoner and only the minimal non- EL subontology is handled by a less efficient OWL 2 *** proposed approach is implemented in a prototype ComR and experimental results show that our approach offers a substantial speedup in ontology *** the wellknown ontology NCI,the classification time is reduced by 96.9%(resp.83.7%)compared against the standard reasoner Pellet (*** modular reasoner MORe).

Influences of Reservoir Heterogeneity and Anisotropy on CO_2 Sequestration and Heat Extraction for CO_2-Based Enhanced Geothermal System

Enhanced geothermal systems(EGS) have a great potential to extract geothermal energy and have attracted much interest. In this paper, based on a 3D thermal-hydrologic model considering CO_2 sequestration, the influences of reservoir heterogeneity and anisotropy on CO_2 sequestration and heat extraction in CO_2-based EGS are investigated. Different heterogeneous reservoirs and homogeneous reservoir are compared, and different ratios among reservoir permeability components are compared. The results show that greater reservoir heterogeneity enhances CO_2 sequestration and restrains heat extraction. Higher ratio between horizontal(x and y directions) and vertical permeability components enhances CO_2 sequestration and heat extraction, and vertical permeability component has a little effect. With the increasing ratio between x-directional(perpendicular to the line of the injection well and the production well) and y-directional(perpendicular to x direction) reservoir permeability components(i.e. kx:ky), both CO_2 sequestration amount and steady-state heat extraction rate first increase and then decrease, and thermal breakthrough time increases, showing that there exists an optimum kx:ky, which is about 1:1. The results of this paper indicate that reservoir heterogeneity and anisotropy have important influences on CO_2 sequestration and heat extraction.

The rational design of efficient bimetallic nanoparticle(NP)catalysts is challenging due to the lack of theoretical understanding of active components and insights into the mechanisms of a specific ***,we report the rational design of nanoreactors comprising hollow carbon sphere-confined PtNi bimetallic NPs(PtNi@HCS)as highly efficient catalysts for hydrogen generation via ammonia borane hydrolysis in *** both density functional theory calculations and molecular dynamics simulations,the effects of an active PtNi combination and the critical synergistic role of a hollow carbon shell on the molecule diffusion adsorption behaviors are *** isotope effects and theoretical calculations allow the clarification of the mechanism,with oxidative addition of an O-H bond of water to the catalyst surface being the rate-determining *** remarkable catalytic activity of the PtNi@HCS nanoreactor was also utilized for successful tandem catalytic hydrogenation reactions,using in situ-generated H_(2) from ammonia borane with high *** concerted design,theoretical calculations,and experimental work presented here shed light on the rational elaboration of efficient nanocatalysts and contribute to the establishment of a circular carbon economy using green hydrogen.

Power system decarbonisation with Global Energy Interconnection——a case study on the economic viability of international transmission network in Australasia

The electric energy system in Indonesia is undergoing with the challenges of fast-increasing electricity demand,carbon constraints,and rising *** our model of the Australian and Indonesian electrical grids(either separately or interconnected)that incorporates operational flexibility in capacity expansion planning,we first show that meeting the projected demand for Java and Bali—the main Indonesian grid,with 100%locally integrated renewables by 2050 would be ***,a submarine high-voltage DC(HVDC)link connecting Indonesia’s Java-Bali power grid to the Australian National Electricity Market(NEM)grid through the Northern Territory would help alleviate this situation,given Australia’s abundant renewable energy ***,our model reveals that the Australian NEM could also profit from additional renewables if connected to the Northern Territory through a ground HVDC transmission line to gather intermittent wind and solar generation,which would be curtailed otherwise if unused by Indonesia through the submarine *** the expensiveness of long HVDC links,the wholesale electricity cost of the integrated 100%renewable Australasia power system could be reduced by over 16%,from$AUD177/MWh with only local renewables to$AUD148/MWh with integrated HVDC *** model retrieved the optimal international HVDC link with capacity of 43.8 GW,and the optimal regional HVDC transmission line with a capacity of 5.5 *** the best of our knowledge,this is the first detailed model on power system decarbonisation planning for both Australian NEM and Indonesian Java-Bali power grid considering HVDC interconnections.

Glioblastoma multiforme(GBM)is a highly aggressive brain tumor with an extremely low survival *** and effective approaches for treatment are therefore urgently ***,we successfully developed M1-like macrophage-derived extracellular vesicles(M1EVs)that overcome multiple challenges via guidance from two macrophage-related observations in clinical specimens from GBM patients:enrichment of M2 macrophages in GBM;and origination of a majority of infiltrating macrophage from peripheral *** maximize the synergistic effect,we further functionalized the membranes of M1EVs with two hydrophobic agents(the chemical excitation source CPPO(C)and the photosensitizer Ce6(C))and loaded the hydrophilic hypoxiaactivated prodrug AQ4N(A)into the inner core of the *** intravenous injection,the inherent nature of M1-derived extracellular vesicles CCA-M1EVs allowed for blood-brain barrier penetration,and modulated the immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment via M2-to-M1 polarization,which increased hydrogen peroxide(H_(2)O_(2))***,the reaction between H_(2)O_(2) and CPPO produced chemical energy,which could be used for Ce6 activation to generate large amounts of reactive oxygen species to achieve chemiexcited photodynamic therapy(CDT).As this reaction consumed oxygen,the aggravation of tumor hypoxia also led to the conversion of non-toxic AQ4N into toxic AQ4 for ***,CCA-M1EVs achieved synergistic immunomodulation,CDT,and hypoxia-activated chemotherapy in GBM to exert a potent therapeutic ***,we demonstrated the excellent effect of CCA-M1EVs against GBM in cell-derived xenograft and patient-derived xenograft models,underscoring the strong potential of our highly flexible M1EVs system to support multi-modal therapies for difficult-to-treat GBM.

Recently,the coexistence of topology and superconductivity has garnered considerable ***,the dimensionality of these materials is crucial for the realization of topological quantum ***,the naturally grown materials,especially with one-dimensional feature that exhibits the coexistence of topology and superconductivity,still face challenges in terms of experimental realization and scalability,which hinders the fundamental research development and the potential to revolutionize quantum ***,we report the first experimental synthesis of quasi-one-dimensional InNbS_(2)nanoribbons that exhibit the coexistence of topological order and superconductivity via a chemical vapor transport ***,the inplane upper critical field of InNbS_(2)nanoribbons exceeds the Pauli paramagnetic limit by more than 2.2 times,which can be attributed to the enhanced spin-orbit coupling and the weakened interlayer interaction between the NbS_(2)layers induced by the insertion of In atoms,making InNbS_(2)exhibit spin-momentum locking similar to that of monolayer NbS_(2).Moreover,for the first time,we report the superconducting diode effect in a quasi-one-dimensional superconductor system without any inherent geometric *** measured maximum efficiency is manifested as 14%,observed atμ0H≈±60 mT,and we propose that the superconducting diode effect can potentially be attributed to the presence of the nontrivial topological *** work provides a platform for studying exotic phenomena in condensed matter physics and potential applications in quantum computing and quantum information processing.

The paper describes the magnetic Dipole model of magnetic flux leakage(MFL) based on the principle of MFL testing, proposes the effects of surface defect width and depth on MFL field, and presents the peak-peak amplitude algorithm that the features of defect signal are extracted. The peak-peak amplitude and separation, signal gradient variation are used as the distinguish criterions of defects. The principle of instrumental hardware design is also introduced. The introduced gun MFL testing instrument is successfully employed in the nondestructive evaluation of gun.
