This study intends to find out the correlation between the cover depth and the bond characteristics of UHPC through pull-out tests of UHPC specimens with different cover depths and bond tests of rebar using flexural members. In this experimental study, specimens are fabricated with the lap-splice length as test variable in relation with the calculation of the lap-splice length for 180- MPa UHPC. Moreover, specimens are also fabricated with the cover depth as test variable to evaluate the effect of the cover depth on the UHPC flexural members. The load-displacement curves are analyzed for each of these test variables to compute the lap-splice length proposed in the K-UHPC structural design guideline and to evaluate the influence of the cover depth on the flexural members. As a result, the stability of the structural behavior can be significantly enhanced by increasing slightly the cover depth specification of the current UHPC Structure Design Guideline from the maximum value between 1.5 times of rebar diameter and 20 mm to the maximum value between 1.5 times of rebar diameter and 25 mm.

Researches on ultra-high performance concrete (UHPC) have been conducted worldwide owing to its outstanding durability and strength performances. The exploitation of the mechanical properties of UHPC will render it possible to achieve economic design through substantial reduction in the cross sectional dimensions and simplification in the reinforcement arrangement. This paper investigates experimentally the load transfer in the prestressed concrete anchorage zone. To provide distinctive features of UHPC compared to ordinary concrete, the cross sectional dimensions of the member were reduced and the stress distribution, deformation and cracking pattern of the PS anchorage zone were examined experimentally according to the degree of reinforcement of the members chosen. The distributions of the bursting stress, spalling stress and longitudinal edge stress in the specimens were observed according to the various types of reinforcement. All the specimens satisfied the load-bearing capacity criterion specified by the European ETAG-013 guidelines and their stress distributions were similar to those in the PS anchorages of post-tensioned members applying ordinary concrete. The cracks propagated longitudinally with lengths up to twice the cross sectional dimensions and their width was smaller than when applying ordinary concrete owing to the bridging effect of the steel fibers in UHPC. Accordingly, the exploitation of the high strength of UHPC enabled us to secure the resistance of the anchorage with no need for particular reinforcing devices.

BACKGROUND Ligamentum flavum cysts,which are most common in mobile junctional levels of the spine,can be a rare cause of spinal *** have been several case reports of ligamentum flavum ***,there is yet to be a documented case report of a calcified ligamentum flavum ***,we report the first case of a calcified ligamentum flavum cyst causing ankle and toe *** SUMMARY A 66-year-old male visited our hospital complaining of claudication as well as thigh and calf pain in his left leg,all beginning two weeks *** examination revealed motor weakness of the left ankle dorsiflexion and great toe *** spinal computed tomography scans showed spinal stenosis combined with a calcified mass at the left side of the L4-5 *** reso-nance imaging showed dural sac compression caused by the calcified mass at the left ligamentum flavum of the L4-5 *** performed decompressive laminectomy and excision of the calcified mass combined with posterior lumbar interbody fusion at the L4-5 ***-operatively,we found a firm and nodule like mass originating from the ventral surface of ligamentum *** examination suggested a calcified pseudocyst without a capsular *** the operation,the patient’s motor weakness in the ankle and great toe improved *** The patient’s ankle and great toe weakness were improved successfully after surgical removal of the calcified cyst.

The fabrication of a highly dense and ultrathin Gd doped ceria(GDC) interlayer on a large-area, porous electrolyte-coated planar anode support using vacuum slurry coating is studied for application in solid oxide fuel cells(SOFCs). The electrolyte-coated planar anode support body is fabricated by tape casting and pre-sintering is performed at 1100, 1150, and 1200°C. The GDC interlayer is coated onto the pre-sintered electrolyte-coated anode support using a vacuum slurry coating process with different immersion times(30–60 s). A highly dense and ultrathin GDC interlayer with a thickness of 1.48 μm is produced after co-sintering at 1400°C. The 1200°C pre-sintered electrolyte-coated anode support showed a thin and highly dense GDC interlayer which is attributed to a lower shrinkage difference between the coated GDC interlayer and pre-sintered body. The electrochemical performance of a vacuum slurry-coated GDC interlayer cell is 38 % higher compared to that of the screen-printed GDC-coated cell at 700°C due to the greatly reduced Ohmic and electrode polarization resistances. The considerable improvement in the performance is attributed to the ultrahigh GDC density which has prevented the secondary phase formation between the cathode and electrolyte. This study presents the economical, scalable, and reproducible process for the fabrication of highly robust GDC interlayer for the large-area planar anode-supported SOFCs.

Solution infiltration is a popular technique for the surface modification of solid oxide fuel cell(SOFC)***,the synthesis of nanostructured SOFC cathodes by infiltration is a tedious process that often requires several infiltration and high temperature(≥500℃)calcination ***,fabricating large-area nanostructured cathodes via infiltration still requires serious ***,we propose a facile and scalable urea assisted ultrasonic spray infiltration technique for nanofabrication of SOFC *** is demonstrated that by using urea as a precipitating agent,the calcination after each infiltration cycle can be omitted and the next infiltration can be performed just after a drying step(≤100℃).Finally,the precipitates can be converted into a desired catalyst phase in single calcination thus,a nanostructured cathode can be fabricated in a much faster *** is also shown that the low calcination temperature of the cathode(≤900℃)can produce highly durable SOFC performance even without employing a Ce_(0.9)Gd_(0.1)O_(2)(GDC)diffusion barrier layer which provides the ease of SOFC *** coupling with an ultrasonic spray technique,the urea assisted infiltration can be scaled up for any desired cathode ***_(0.6)Sr_(0.4)Co_(0.2)Fe_(0.8)O_(3) nanolayered cathode was fabricated and it was characterized by scanning electron microscope(SEM),X-ray diffraction(XRD),and transmission electron microscopy(TEM)*** showed the formation of a nanolayer cathode just after 5 cycles of the urea assisted infiltration while the XRD and TEM confirmed the phase and stoichiometric uniformity of the 100 nm cathode *** effectiveness of the newly developed technique was further verified by the stable operation of a GDC buffer layer free SOFC having an active cathode area of 25 cm^(2) during a 1200 h durability *** research outcomes propose urea assisted ultrasonic spray infiltration as a facile,scalable,and commercially viable method

AIM To evaluate the psychometric properties of a newly developed questionnaire,known as the gastroesophageal reflux and dyspepsia therapeutic efficacy and satisfaction test(GERD-TEST),in patients with *** Japanese patients with predominant GERD symptoms recruited according to the Montreal definition were treated for 4 wk using a standard dose of proton pump inhibitor(PPI). The GERD-TEST and the Medical Outcome Study Short Form-8 Health Survey(SF-8) were administered at baseline and after 4 wk of treatment. The GERD-TEST contains three domains: the severity of GERD and functional dyspepsia(FD) symptoms(5 items),the level of dissatisfaction with daily life(DS)(4 items),and the therapeutic efficacy as assessed by the patients and medication compliance(4 items).RESULTS A total of 290 patients were eligible at baseline; 198 of these patients completed 4 wk of PPI therapy. The internal consistency reliability as evaluated using the Cronbach's α values for the GERD,FD and DS subscales ranged from 0.75 to 0.82. The scores for the GERD,FD and DS items/subscales were significantly correlated with the physical and mental component summary scores of the SF-8. After 4 wk of PPI treatment,the scores for the GERD items/subscales were greatly reduced,ranging in value from 1.51 to 1.87 and with a large effect size(P < 0.0001,Cohen's d; 1.29-1.63). Statistically significant differences in the changes in the scores for the GERD items/subscales were observed between treatment responders and non-responders(P < 0.0001).CONCLUSION The GERD-TEST has a good reliability,a good convergent and concurrent validity,and is responsive to the effects of treatment. The GERD-TEST is a simple,easy to understand,and multifaceted PRO instrument applicable to both clinical trials and the primary care of GERD patients.

China has experienced rapid car-oriented suburbanization during the past decades and is facing emerging challenges such as traffic congestion,air pollution,and even health *** from North American cities,Chinese cities have started adopting and implementing a Transit-Oriented Development(TOD) strategy,which encourages the transit ridership and walking trips by creating a pedestrian-friendly urban *** much research has examined the walking environment in various neighborhoods or communities,few existing studies have examined the walking environment around transit stations,especially using micro-level data,such as walking infrastructure *** research chooses several infrastructure variables that are critical for pedestrians to investigate the walking environment around stations of the Bus Rapid Transit(BRT) No.1 Line in Xiamen City,*** study defines a half mile buffer centered on each station as the spatial unit of *** Geographic Information System(GIS) and field audits are employed to measure the characteristics of the infrastructure for pedestrians in each spatial unit of *** results of this analysis can help assess the existing conditions of the infrastructure for pedestrians in each station area,which might need to be added or *** findings will not only provide empirical support for improving TODs in Xiamen,but also offer a lesson on how areas around transit stations could be retrofitted to improve the pedestrian environment.

Hepatobiliary scintigraphy for detecting biliary strictures after living donor liver transplantation

AIM:To investigate the diagnostic accuracy of hepatobiliary scintigraphy(HBS) in detecting biliary strictures in living donor liver transplantation(LDLT) ***:We retrospectively reviewed 104 adult LDLT recipients of the right hepatic lobe with duct-toduct anastomosis,who underwent HBS and *** HBS results were categorized as normal,parenchymal dysfunction,biliary obstruction,or bile leakage without *** presence of biliary strictures was determined by percutaneous cholangiography or endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography(ERCP).RESULTS:In 89 patients with biliary strictures,HBS showed biliary obstruction in 50 and no obstruction in 39,for a sensitivity of 56.2%.Of 15 patients with no biliary strictures,HBS showed no obstruction in 11,for a specificity of 73.3%.The positive predictive value(PPV) was 92.6%(50/54) and the negative predictive value(NPV) was 22%(11/50).We also analyzed the diagnostic accuracy of the change in bile duct *** sensitivity,NPV,specificity,and PPV were 65.2%,27.9%,80% and 95%,***:The absence of biliary obstruction on HBS is not ***,when post-LDLT biliary strictures are suspected,early ERCP may be considered.
