Assessment of climate damage in China based on integrated assessment framework

Developing a localized and consistent model framework for climate loss and damage assessment is crucial for the policy-making of climate change mitigation and *** study introduces a comprehensive,multidisciplinary Integrated Assessment Model(IAM)framework for evaluating climate damage in China,utilizing BCC-SESM climate model and FUND sectoral climate damage model under the SSP2-RCPs *** a bottom-up approach,the research estimates climate damage across eight major sectors,recalibrates sectoral climate damage functions and parameters for China,and elucidates distinctions among direct climate loss,market climate loss,and aggregate climate *** findings reveal that the total climate damage function for China follows a quadratic pattern in response to temperature *** 2050,the estimated climate damage is projected to be 5.4%,5.7%,and 8.2%of GDP under RCP2.6,RCP4.5,and RCP8.5,***,both direct and market climate losses are projected to remain below 2%of GDP by 2050,while the aggregate climate loss could reach as high as 8.2%,which is predominantly attributed to non-market *** a sectoral perspective,under the RCP8.5 scenario,human health damage constitutes the largest share(61.9%)of the total climate loss by 2050,followed by sea-level rise damage(18.6%).This study sheds lights on the adaptation policy that should attach importance to the non-market sectors,particularly focusing on human health and sea-level rise.

Revisiting BCC-SESM parameters sensitivity with BCC-CSM1.1 co_(2)-concentration-driven simulations

Based on the results of the complex climate model BCC-CSM,the Beijing Climate Center Simple Earth System Model(BCC-SESM)was developed for climate system simulations in Integrated Assessment Models(IAMs).The first version of the BCC-SESM model was based on a high-emissions scenario(ESMRCP8.5)and tends to overestimate the temperatures in low and medium emissions *** address this problem,this study uses three CO_(2)-concentration-driven simulations under different RCP scenarios of complex climate models to evaluate parameters sensitivity and their impacts on projection *** results show that the new version of the BCC-SESM(denoted as BCC-SESM1.1)model based on a medium-emissions scenario experiment(RCP4.5)is more suitable for temperature projections for various climate *** can well reproduce the original value of complex climate *** the same time,it also has high predictive efficacies for medium(RCP4.5)and low(RCP2.6)emissions scenarios,although it tends to underestimate for high emissions scenario(RCP8.5).The sensitivity tests for different RCP scenarios shows that the BCC-SESM1.1 has higher efficacy in projections of future climate change than those model versions based on the other *** projection deviations for the global average temperature by the BCC-SESM1.1(<2%)are better than the previous BCC-SESM(<5%).In light of recent progress in climate policy,the BCC-SESM1.1 is hence more suitable for coupling with IAMs for the purposes of assessing climate outcomes.

Impact of the cold surge event in January 2021 on the power system of China

During 6-10 January 2021,a recorded strong cold surge took place in China,with over 800 observational stations reaching their historical *** previous studies that focused on the response of either the power load or generation separately,this study quantitatively revealed the impacts on the balance between the demand and supply sides of the *** the demand side,the sensitivity of power load was found to increase substantially higher in southern China(0.533 GW°C^(−1))than in the northern region(0.139 GW°C^(−1))due to the limited municipal heating *** the supply side,the hourly wind power generation dropped from the highest of 110 GW on 6 January to the lowest of 54 GW on 9 January due to the reduction in wind *** addition,a reduction in solar power generation was observed during 8-10 ***,the balance of the power system was influenced by this cold *** an effective adaptation measure,results further showed that early warning by three weeks ahead can be obtained by an operational climate *** sensitivity of China's power system to such cold surge events may increase remarkably due to the expected increase in the proportion of wind and solar power generation in future new-type power ***,close cooperation between climate scientists and power engineers is needed to build the resilience of the power system to the cold extremes.

Recent landscape and trends for industry-sponsored pediatric clinical trials in China from 2013 to 2022

Importance: Pediatric medication is a challenging issue globally. Promoting trials of medications for children and implementing measures to encourage innovation for addressing unmet medical and health needs are ***: To explore the recent landscape of pediatric clinical trials of new investigational drugs conducted by pharmaceutical enterprises in China from 2013 to 2022 to provide insight into pediatric drug development in the pharmaceutical industry and regulatory policy ***: We performed a cross-sectional observational investigation of pediatric clinical trials registered from January 1, 2013, to December 31, 2022, on the Registration and Information Disclosure Platform for Drug Clinical Trials, the official registration platform established in 2013 for trials of new investigational drugs initiated by biopharmaceutical enterprises. Trials that included pediatric participants (under 18 years old) were retrieved, and their relevant characteristics were extracted and ***: In total, 895 pediatric clinical trials were collected, accounting for 5.1% of the total registered clinical trials initiated prior to January 1, 2023. The overall average annual growth rate for the number of pediatric clinical trials was 12% (P < 0.001). Phase III trials accounted for the highest proportion (49.1%, 439). Of the 895 trials included, 736 (82.2%) were domestic trials, and 159 (17.8%) were international multicenter trials. In terms of tested drugs, investigations of biological products accounted for the largest proportion of trials (67.4%, 603). Among pediatric clinical trials, studies of vaccines accounted for the largest proportion of trials (41.0%, 367), followed by trials for rare diseases (17.2%, 154). Non-B-form DNA is associated with centromere stability in newly-formed polyploid wheat

Non-B-form DNA differs from the classic B-DNA double helix structure and plays a crucial regulatory role in replication and ***,the role of non-B-form DNA in centromeres,especially in polyploid wheat,remains ***,we systematically analyzed seven non-B-form DNA motif profiles(A-phased DNA repeat,direct repeat,G-quadruplex,inverted repeat,mirror repeat,short tandem repeat,and Z-DNA)in hexaploid *** found that three of these non-B-form DNA motifs were enriched at centromeric regions,especially at the CENH3-binding sites,suggesting that non-B-form DNA may create a favorable loading environment for the CENH3 *** investigate the dynamics of centromeric non-B form DNA during the alloploidization process,we analyzed DNA secondary structure using CENH3 ChIP-seq data from newly formed allotetraploid wheat and its two diploid *** found that newly formed allotetraploid wheat formed more non-B-form DNA in centromeric regions compared with their parents,suggesting that non-B-form DNA is related to the localization of the centromeric regions in newly formed ***,non-B-form DNA enriched in the centromeric regions was found to preferentially form on young LTR retrotransposons,explaining CENH3's tendency to bind to younger ***,our study describes the landscape of non-B-form DNA in the wheat genome,and sheds light on its potential role in the evolution of polyploid centromeres.

A stable staggered-grid finite-difference scheme for acoustic modeling beyond conventional stability limit

Staggered-grid finite-difference(SGFD)schemes have been widely used in acoustic wave modeling for geophysical *** improved methods are proposed to enhance the accuracy of numerical ***,these methods are inevitably limited by the maximum Courant-Friedrichs-Lewy(CFL)numbers,making them unstable when modeling with large time sampling intervals or small grid *** solve this problem,we extend a stable SGFD scheme by controlling SGFD dispersion relations and maximizing the maximum CFL ***,to improve modeling stability,we minimize the error between the FD dispersion relation and the exact relation in the given wave-number region,and make the FD dispersion approach a given function outside the given wave-number area,thus breaking the conventional limits of the maximum CFL ***,to obtain high modeling accuracy,we use the SGFD scheme based on the Remez algorithm to compute the FD *** addition,the hybrid absorbing boundary condition is adopted to suppress boundary reflections and we find a suitable weighting coefficient for the proposed *** derivation and numerical modeling demonstrate that the proposed scheme can maintain high accuracy in the modeling process and the value of the maximum CFL number of the proposed scheme can exceed that of the conventional SGFD scheme when adopting a small maximum effective wavenumber,indicating that the proposed scheme improves stability during the modeling.

The interface mechanism between catalyst and carbon substrate has been the focus of *** this paper,the FeCo alloy embedded N,S co-doped carbon substrate bifunctional catalyst(FeCo/S-NC)is obtained by a simple one-step pyrolysis *** experimental results and density functional theory(DFT)calculation show that the formation of FeCo alloy is conducive to promoting electron transfer,and the introduction of S atom can enhance the interaction between FeCo alloy and carbon substrate,thus inhibiting the migration and agglomeration of particles on the surface of carbon *** FeCo/SNC catalysts show outstanding performance for oxygen reduction reaction(ORR)and oxygen evolution reaction(OER).FeCo/S-NC shows a high half-wave potential(E_(1/2)=0.8823 V)for ORR and a low overpotential at 10 mA cm^(-2)(E_(j=10)=299 mV)for *** addition,compared with Pt/C+RuO_(2) assembled Zn-air battery(ZAB),the FeCo/S-NC assembled ZAB exhibits a larger power density(198.8 mW cm^(-2)),a higher specific capacity(786.1 mA h g_(zn)~(-1)),and ultra-stable cycle *** results confirm that the optimized composition and the interfacial interaction between catalyst and carbon substrate synergistically enhance the electrochemical performance.

Effect of heat treatment on microstructure and mechanical properties of selective laser-melted PH13-8Mo stainless steel

PH13-8Mo stainless steel powder with high sphericity and well fluidity was prepared by the plasma rotating electrode *** formed parts with ultra-high purity were manufactured by selective laser *** tensile and impact mechanical properties of the printed parts under three heat treatment regimes were compared to those without heat *** microstructure,grain orientation and phase composition were characterized by electron-backscatter diffraction,X-ray diffraction and transmission electron *** characterization results reveal that the addition of heat treatment makes the grains enlarge,and after different heat treatments,the average grain size from 1.51μm in the printed state increases to 2.78,3.09 and 2.06μm,*** formed parts are mainly composed of martensite and retained ***,the NiAl and M23C precipitates form,which are the major strengthening phases of PH13-8Mo stainless *** optimal heat treatment process is 925℃×1 h water cooling(WC)+0℃×2 h air cooling(AC)+540℃×4 h *** this heat treatment process,PH13-8Mo formed parts have the optimal comprehensive mechanical properties:the tensile strength,yield strength and impact energy KU2 are 1492 MPa,1432 MPa and 63 J,*** strengthening and toughening via heat treatment are mainly attributed to dislocation strengthening,the formation of NiAl and M23Co precipitates and the change of volume fraction of the retained austenite.
