AIM: To evaluate the safety and feasibility of laparoscopic abdominoperineal resection compared with the open procedure in multimodality management of rectal ***: A total of 106 rectal cancer patients who underwent open abdominoperineal resection(OAPR) were matched with 106 patients who underwent laparoscopic abdominoperineal resection(LAPR) in a 1 to 1 fashion, between 2009 and 2013 at Fudan University Shanghai Cancer Center. Propensity score matching was carried out based on age, gender, pathological staging of the disease and administration of neoadjuvant chemoradiation. Data regarding preoperative staging, surgical technique, pathologicalresults, postoperative recovery and complications were reviewed and compared between the LAPR and OAPR groups. Perineal closure around the stoma and pelvic floor reconstruction were performed only in OAPR, not in LAPR. Therefore, abdominoperineal resection procedure-specific surgical complications including parastomal hernia and perineal wound complications were compared between the open and laparoscopic procedure. Regular surveillance of the two cohorts was carried out to gather prognostic data. Diseasefree survival was analyzed using Kaplan-Meier estimate and log-rank test. Subgroup analysis was performed in patients with locally advanced disease treated with preoperative chemoradiation followed by surgical resection. RESULTS: No significant difference was found between the LAPR group and the OAPR group in terms of clinicopathological features. The operation time(180.8 ± 47.8 min vs 172.1 ± 49.2 min, P = 0.190), operative blood loss(93.9 ± 60.0 m L vs 88.4 ± 55.2 m L, P = 0.494), total number of retrieved lymph nodes(12.9 ± 6.9 vs 12.9 ± 5.4, P = 0.974), surgical complications(12.3% vs 15.1%, P = 0.549) and pathological characteristics were comparable between the LAPR and OAPR group, respectively. AIM:To address the challenges of data labeling difficulties,data privacy,and necessary large amount of labeled data for deep learning methods in diabetic retinopathy(DR)identification,the aim of this study is to develop a source-free domain adaptation(SFDA)method for efficient and effective DR identification from unlabeled ***:A multi-SFDA method was proposed for DR *** method integrates multiple source models,which are trained from the same source domain,to generate synthetic pseudo labels for the unlabeled target ***,a softmax-consistence minimization term is utilized to minimize the intra-class distances between the source and target domains and maximize the inter-class *** is performed using three color fundus photograph datasets(APTOS2019,DDR,and EyePACS).RESULTS:The proposed model was evaluated and provided promising results with respectively 0.8917 and 0.9795 F1-scores on referable and normal/abnormal DR identification *** demonstrated effective DR identification through minimizing intra-class distances and maximizing inter-class distances between source and target ***:The multi-SFDA method provides an effective approach to overcome the challenges in DR *** method not only addresses difficulties in data labeling and privacy issues,but also reduces the need for large amounts of labeled data required by deep learning methods,making it a practical tool for early detection and preservation of vision in diabetic patients.

Background Intrauterine growth retardation(IUGR)affects intestinal growth,morphology,and function,which leads to poor growth performance and high *** present study explored whether maternal dietary methyl donor(MET)supplementation alleviates IUGR and enhances offspring’s growth performance by improving intestinal growth,function,and DNA methylation of the ileum in a porcine IUGR *** Forty multiparous sows were allocated to the control or MET diet groups from mating until *** farrowing,8 pairs of IUGR and normal birth weight piglets from 8 litters were selected for sampling before suckling *** The results showed that maternal MET supplementation tended to decrease the IUGR incidence and increased the average weaning weight of ***,maternal MET supplementation significantly reduced the plasma concentrations of isoleucine,cysteine,urea,and total amino acids in sows and newborn *** also increased lactase and sucrase activity in the jejunum of newborn *** addition resulted in lower ileal methionine synthase activity and increased betaine homocysteine S-methyltransferase activity in the ileum of newborn *** methylation analysis of the ileum showed that MET supplementation increased the methyla-tion level of DNA CpG sites in the ileum of newborn ***-regulated differentially methylated genes were enriched in folic acid binding,insulin receptor signaling pathway,and endothelial cell *** contrast,up-regulated methylated genes were enriched in growth hormone receptor signaling pathway and nitric oxide biosyn-thetic *** Maternal MET supplementation can reduce the incidence of IUGR and increase the weaning litter weight of piglets,which may be associated with better intestinal function and methylation status.

Adding numerous dislocations into metallic materials before the forming stage significantly enhances their deformability. However, this beneficial effect of dislocation defects may not have a simple monotonic relationship with increased dislocation density during electroplastic deformation. This is due to the complex interactions among the drifting electrons, dislocations and solute atoms. This study explores the effect of diverse initial dislocation densities on creep deformation during electrically aided creep aging of an aluminum–lithium alloy. Surprisingly, we discovered a threshold value for the dislocation density that affects electroplastic creep, i.e., an enhanced effect from dislocations weakens when exceeding this density threshold(an anomalous response to creep). Microstructural data also reveal that such an anomalous response originates mainly from differences in various dislocation density-tailored configurations, which can influence the dislocation motions and precipitation kinetics of the strengthening T1precipitates under the same action of pulsed currents. This study provides important insights into the dislocation density-mediated electroplastic creep of an aluminum–lithium alloy.

Pine Island Glacier(PIG),the largest glacier in the Amundsen Sea Embayment of West Antarctica,has contributed to over a quarter of the observed sea level rise around *** recent years,multiple observations have confirmed its continuous retreat,ice flow acceleration and profound surface *** these changes is crucial for accurately monitoring ice mass discharge and future Antarctic contributions to sea level ***,it is essential to investigate the complex interactions between these variables to comprehend how they collectively affect the overall stability of the intricate PIG *** this study,we utilized high-resolution remote sensing data and deep learning method to detect and analyze the spatio-temporal variations of surface melt,ice shelf calving,and ice flow velocity of the PIG from 2015 to *** explored the correlations among these factors to understand their long-term impacts on the glacier's *** findings reveal a retreat of 26.3 km and a mass loss of 1001.6 km²during ***,extensive surface melting was observed,particularly in the 2016/2017 and 2019/2020 melting *** data vividly illustrate prolonged and intense melting periods,correlating with a significant retreat in the glacier's terminus position in 2019/***,the comprehensive analysis of surface melting and the cumulative retreat of the ice shelf from 2017 to 2020 on the PIG shows atemporal relationship with subsequent significant changes in ice fow velocity,ranging from 10.9 to 12.2 m d^(-1),with an average acceleration rate of 12%.These empirical findings elucidate the intricate relationship among surface melt,ice flow velocity,and consequential glacier dynamics.A profound understanding of these interrelationships holds paramount importance in glacier dynamic changes and modeling,providing invaluable insights into potential glacier responses to global climate change.
