To analyse the self-healing capacities in terms of mechanical performance of the pozzolanic materials,such as,fly ash,metakaolin and silica fume and crystalline ***-cracked concrete cubes with about 0.05 mm width were exposed to four different environmental conditions at different exposure times in order to determine the effect of temperature and water availability on the self-healing *** the exposure,the control and tested concrete cubes were evaluated for regained strength,void reduction,corrosion inhibition,damp proofing,relative impermeability and *** samples with SF10CA have better cementitious filling and low percentage of voids and water absorption.

The scope of the present paper is to understand the effects of crystalline admixture on the selfhealing capacity of the cementitious composites. Previous studies were examined and a conclusion was drawn to the effect that different additives to crystalline admixture tend to improve self-healing of concrete for larger cracks. It is recommended that initial treatment with chemical admixture can stimulate and heal further cracks and it has the better repeatability trend in mixing with the concretes and mechanical recovery is possible even under repetitive preloading. Effective self-healing with chemical admixtures even under open-air exposure, leads to study the importance of a service ability design parameter including the maximum allowable crack width by repeatability analysis as a function of the exposure with the concept of sealable crack width.

The aim of this paper is to observe the Nusselt number and friction factor behavior of the circular tube with conical strip inserts as turbulators in a laminar flow condition, using staggered and non-staggered conical strips with three different twist ratios （Y = 2, 3 and 5）. The conical strip is inserted in the forward and backward direction individually compared to the flow of water which is the working fluid. The results indicate that the conical strip inserts increases the Nusselt number when compared to the plain surface tube. It is observed that the strip geometry has a major effect on the thermal performance of the circular tube. On examination of different strips for determining the enhancement of Nusselt number, the staggered conical strip with the twist ratio of Y = 3 has given a better result compared to the other two strips. Finally, correlations have been derived using regression analysis for predicting the Nusselt number and friction factor.

Introduction: Gender differences are still quite prevalent in the present time. Although there is literature regarding gender differences in healthcare expenditure in India, there is no data regarding gender differences in hospital stay, hospital seeking behaviors and mortality. Aim: To evaluate the Gender differences in a hospital seeking behavior, mortality and hospital stay. Methods: We prospectively analyzed, from a retrospective database, all patients who underwent surgical gastrointestinal, hepato-biliary, pancreatic and splenic surgeries from 1996 to 2018 in our unit. Patients were divided into groups based on gender, admission time period and priority of admission i.e., elective or emergency. Both the gender groups were compared with respect to total procedures done, hospital stay and mortality. Organ specific mortality was calculated as proportions, was analyzed and compared between the groups. Time trends of the same were observed and compared. Results: Of 12,411 patients, 7979 (64.3%) were males and 4432 (35.7%) were females. 9191 (74.1%) patients underwent elective procedures whereas 3220 (25.9%) had emergency procedures (p ≤ 0.001). Overall mortality was higher in males (n = 473, 5.92%) in comparison to females (n = 185, 4.17%) (p ≤ 0.001). Majority of surgeries in males were of small intestine (22.5%) in which small bowel resection was most commonly done (5.4%), whereas, gallbladder and biliary surgeries (27.4%) were the most common in females in which laparoscopic cholecystectomy was most commonly done (5.8%). Median hospital stay was higher in males (10 days vs 9 days), (p ≤ 0.001). Mortality was higher in females in all organ categories except in liver (6.34% vs 2.7%), pancreas (37.3% Vs 18.3%) and spleen (3.38% Vs 1.62%) where mortality was higher for male gender. In nature, cellulose, lignocellulose and lignin are major sources of plant biomass; their recycling is indispensable for global carbon cycle. The major portion of the municipal solid waste consists of lignocellulose. The incineration of organic fraction of municipal solid waste （OFMSW） with high moisture content and low calorific value is not environmentally, techno-commercially viable option for energy recovery. Optimization of biomethanisation process is aim to maximize organic waste stabilization at short digestion period with higher energy recovery. The biomethanisation studies, demonstrate co-digestion of substrates improves CH4 yield due to nutrients balance. Fungi are low sensitive to environment, thrive in acidic environment and produces required multi-enzyme, attach to cell envelope and hydrolyze the substrate for energy recovery. Fermentation of cellulose by the monoculture results in the formation of H2, CO2, formate, acetate, lactate, succinate, and ethanol. In co-cultures with Methanobacterium, H2 and formate reduction indicates it＇s utilized in CH4 production. Engineered co-culture of microorganisms is essential for the heterogeneous complex organic substrate degradation for extraction of unutilized energy fraction of biomass, as potential source of energy.

The United States continues to be the largest corn producer in the world. How to maximize corn yield and at the same time reduce greenhouse gas emissions, is becoming a challenging effort for growers and researchers. As a result, our understanding of the responses of soil CO2 and CH4 fluxes to agricultural practices in cornfields is still limited. We conducted a 3-yr cornfield experiment to study the responses of soil CO2 and CH4 fluxes to various agricultural practices in middle Tennessee. The agricultural practices included no-tillage + regular applications of urea ammonium nitrate (NT-URAN);no-tillage + regular applications of URAN + denitrification inhibitor (NT-inhi- bitor);no-tillage + regular applications of URAN + biochar (NT-biochar);no-tillage + 20% applications of URAN + chicken litter (NT-litter);no-tillage + split applications of URAN (NT-split);and conventional tillage + regular applications of URAN as a control (CT-URAN). A randomized complete block design was used with six replications. The same amount of fertilizer equivalent to 217 kg·N·ha-1 was applied to all of the experimental plots. The results showed that improved fertilizer and soil management, except the NT-biochar treatment significantly increased soil CO2 flux as compared to the conventional tillage (CT-URAN, 487.05 mg CO2 m-2·h-1). Soil CO2 flux increased exponentially with soil temperature (T 2 flux tended to be positively related to corn yield and/or soil moisture. Soil CH4 flux increased linearly with soil moisture in all treatments. Improved fertilizer and soil management did not alter soil CH4 flux, but significantly affected its moisture sensitivity. Our results indicated that agricultural practices enhancing corn yield may also result in a net increase in carbon emissions from soil, hence reducing the potential of carbon sequestration in croplands.

Assessment of SNP and InDel Variations Among Rice Lines of Tulaipanji x Ranjit

Genotyping by sequencing(GBS) is the recent approach of next-generation sequencing technique for discovering and genotyping single nucleotide polymorphisms(SNPs) in crop species. Genotypic variation studies(SNPs and insertion-deletions/In Dels) were performed using four rice lines based on GBS data by aligning to the reference genome Nipponbare. Local aromatic rice landrace Tulaipanji was crossed with Ranjit, and two distinct lines were identified from the progenies: one line with awns and aroma traits and the other without awns and aroma. Total number of SNPs and In Dels identified were 52 810 and 4 327 at read depth 10, respectively. Out of the total polymorphic SNPs/In Dels, 16 490 were intergeneric, 7 812 were inside gene, and 4 435 were intronic. Phylogenetically, Tulaipanji was closer to the reference genome nipponbare. Based on recurrent parent genome analysis, out of 10 013 alleles, 92.52% was introgressed into progeny-awn from Tulaipanji and 7.48% from Ranjit, whereas progeny-awnless carried 89.19% alleles from Ranjit and only 10.81% alleles from Tulaipanji. In addition, progeny-awn was the highest heterozygous(83.88%) and progeny-awnless was the least(2.24%) at this fifth generation of recombinant inbred lines. These SNP variations may be linked to the phenotypic traits and can be utilized in crop improvement through linkage mapping. These results suggest that adding a high density of SNP markers to a mapping or breeding population through GBS has a great value for numerous applications in rice breeding and genetics research.
