AIM: Taraxacum officinale (TO) has been frequently used as a remedy for inflammatory diseases. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of TO on cholecystokinin (CCK)-octapeptide-induced acute pancreatitis in ***: TO at 10 mg/kg was orally administered, followed by 75 μg/kg CCK octapeptide injected subcutaneously three times after 1, 3 and 5 h. This whole procedure was repeated for 5 d. We determined the pancreatic weight/body weight ratio, the levels of pancreatic HSP60 and HSP72, and the secretion of pro-inflammatory cytokines. Repeated CCK octapeptide treatment resulted in typical laboratory and morphological changes of experimentally-induced ***: TO significantly decreased the pancreatic weight/body weight ratio in CCK octapeptide-induced acute pancreatitis. TO also increased the pancreatic levels of HSP60 and HSP72. Additionally, the secretion of IL-6 and TNF-α decreased in the animals treated with ***: TO may have a protective effect against CCK octapeptide-induced acute pancreatitis.

Effects of core and non-dominant arm strength training on drive distance in elite golfers

Background： Various training schemes have sought to improve golf-related athletic ability. In the golf swing motion, the muscle strengths of the core and arms play important roles, where a difference typically exists in the power of arm muscles between the dominant and non- dominant sides. The purposes of this study were to determine the effects of exercises strengthening the core and non-dominant arm muscles of elite golf players （handicap 〈 3） on the increase in drive distance, and to present a corresponding training scheme aimed at improving golf performance ability. Methods： Sixty elite golfers were randomized into the control group （CG, n = 20）, core exercise group （CEG, n = 20）, and group receiving a combination of muscle strengthening exercises of the non-dominant arm and the core （NCEG, n = 20）. The 3 groups conducted the corresponding exercises for 8 weeks, after which the changes in drive distances and isokinetic strength were measured. Results： Significant differences in the overall improvement of drive distance were observed among the groups （p 〈 0.001）. Enhancement of the drive distance of NCEG was greater than both CG （p 〈 0.001） and CEG （p = 0.001）. Except for trunk flexion, all variables of the measurements of isokinetic strength for NCEG also showed the highest values compared to the other groups. Examination of the correlation between drive distance and isokinetic strength revealed significant correlations of all variables except trunk flexion, wrist extension, and elbow extension. Conclusion： The combination of core and non-dominant arm strength exercises can provide a more effective specialized training program than core alone training for golfers to increase their drive distances.

AIM: To investigate the relationship between serum titers of anti-Helicobacter pylori(***) immunoglobulin G(IgG) and hepatitis B virus surface antibody(HBsA b).METHODS: Korean adults were included whose samples had positive Giemsa staining on endoscopic biopsy and were studied in the hepatitis B virus surface antigen(HBsA g)/HBsA b serologic assay,pepsinogen(PG) assay,and *** serologic test on the same *** were excluded if they were positive for HBs Ag,had a recent history of medication,or had other medical condition(s).We analyzed the effects of the following factors on serum titers of HBsA b and the *** IgG : Age,density of *** infiltration in biopsy samples,serum concentrations of PG Ⅰ and PG Ⅱ,PG Ⅰ/Ⅱ ratio,and white blood cell ***: Of 111 included subjects,74(66.7%) exhibited a positive HBsA b *** serum *** IgG titer did not correlate with the serum HBsA b titer(P = 0.185); however,it correlated with the degree of *** infiltration on gastric biopsy(P < 0.001) and serum PG Ⅱ concentration(P = 0.042).According to the density of *** infiltration on gastric biopsy,subjects could be subdivided into those with a marked(median: 3.95,range 0.82-4.00)(P = 0.458),moderate(median: 3.37,range 1.86-4.00),and mild *** infiltrations(median: 2.39,range 0.36-4.00)(P < 0.001).Subjects with a marked *** infiltration on gastric biopsy had the highest serological titer,whereas in subjects with moderate and mild *** infiltrations titers were correspondingly lower(P < 0.001).After the successful eradication,significant decreases of the degree of *** infiltration(P < 0.001),serum *** IgG titer(P < 0.001),and serum concentrations of PG I(P = 0.028) and PG Ⅱ(P = 0.028) were ***: The *** IgG assay can be used to estimate the burden of bacteria in immunocompetent hosts with *** infection,regardless of the HBsA b titer after HBV vaccination.

AIM： To investigate the effect of Patrinia scabiosaefolia （PS） on the cholecystokinin （CCK） octapeptide-induced acute pancreatitis （AP） in rats.METHODS： Wistar rats weighing 240-260 g were divided into three groups：（1） Normal saline-treated group; （2） treatment with PS at 100 mg/kg group, in which PS was administered orally, followed by subcutaneous administration of 75μg/kg CCK octapeptide three times after 1, 3 and 5 h, and this whole procedure was repeated for 5 d; （3） treatment with saline group, in which the protocols were the same as in treatment group with PS. We determined the pancreatic weight/ body weight ratio, the levels of pancreatic HSP60, HSP72 and the secretion of pro-inflammatory cytokines. Repeated CCK octapeptide treatment resulted in the typical laboratory findings of experimentally induced pancreatitis.RESULTS： PS reduced the pancreatic weight/body weight ratio, the levels of serum amylase and lipase, and inhibited expressions of pro-inflammatory cytokines in the CCK octapeptide-induced AP. Furthermore, PS pretreatment increased the pancreatic levels of HSP60 and HSP72.CONCLUSION： Pretreatment with PS has an antiiinflammatory effect on CCK octapeptide-induced AP.

研究目的：本研究的目的是评价经过阳极氧化、循环预矿化、加热处理钛膜（APHTM）的生物活性，采用组织学分析和显微CT扫描（Micro-CT）比较APHTM和未处理钛膜（NTTM）的引导骨再生能力。材料与方法：制备APHTM样品并浸泡于模拟体液中2天，然后用场发射扫描电子显微镜观察，接着用X射线能谱分析钙和磷酸盐的沉淀情况。体内实验中，在大鼠颅骨构造临界尺寸缺损（直径8mm）．用APHTM或NTTM覆盖处理（每一组n=14）。在2周和4周后活检进行组织学检查（n=3）。将骨荧光标记物在第3周（茜素红）和第5周（钙黄绿素）分别注射入每组三只大鼠，在第7周进行组织学分析，第8周进行Micro-CT扫描（n=5）。结果：APHTM具有较高的生物活性．于模拟体液浸泡2天后．APHTM表面特征性地遍布致密的纳米片状晶体、钙磷浓度增加。在2周和4周，APHTM组显示新生骨紧密贴附于膜上．而NTTM样品组在膜和新生骨之间形成结缔组织间隔。在荧光分析中也发现了同样的规律。Micro-CT分析显示．APHTM组较NTTM组骨量低，但骨矿化密度更高（P〈005）。结论：结果表明，用APH处理钛膜可促进膜与新成骨之间紧密贴合，从而提高骨再生结构的稳定性。还需要进一步体内和体外实验验证该结论。

AIM: To analyze the association between plasma bilirubin levels and veno-occlusive disease(VOD) in non-adult patients undergoing hematopoietic stem cell transplantation(HSCT) during cyclosporine ***: A total of 123 patients taking cyclosporinewere evaluated using an electronic medical system at the Seoul National University Children's Hospital from the years 2004 through 2011. Patients were grouped by age and analyzed for incidence and type of adverse drug reactions(ADRs) including VOD. RESULTS: The HSCT patients were divided into three age groups: G#1 ≥ 18; 9 ≤ G#2 ≤ 17; and G#3 ≤ 8 years of age). The majority of transplant donor types were cord blood transplantations. Most prevalent ADRs represented acute graft-vs-host disease(a GVHD) and VOD. Although the incidences of a GVHD did not vary among the groups, the higher frequency ratios of VOD in G#3 suggested that an age of 8 or younger is a risk factor for developing VOD in HSCT patients. After cyclosporine therapy, the trough plasma concentrations of cyclosporine were lower in G#3 than in G#1, indicative of its increased clearance. Moreover, in G#3 only, a maximal total bilirubin level(BILmax) of ≥ 1.4 mg/d L correlated with VOD incidence after cyclosporine therapy. CONCLUSION: HSCT patients 8 years of age or younger are more at risk for developing VOD, diagnosed as hyperbilirubinemia, tender hepatomegaly, and ascites/weight gain after cyclosporine therapy, which may be represented by a criterion of plasma BILmax being ≥ 1.4 mg/d L, suggestive of more sensitive VOD indication in this age group.
