Intro.uctio.: Despite the eno.mo.s reso.rces deplo.ed and the success achieved in vaccinatio., reducing the number o. children who.remain unvaccinated remains a majo. o.eratio.al challenge in certain co.ntries. In 2014, the Kalemie Expanded Pro.ram o. Immunizatio. o.tpo.t in the Demo.ratic Republic o. the Co.go.was faced with a high number o. unvaccinated children. They instituted a “to.en” catch-up system based o. a co.labo.ative appro.ch with co.munity health wo.kers. This study aims to.do.ument the effects o. this strategy o. vaccinatio. co.erage. Metho.s: This study was a co.parative quasi-experimental test/co.tro. study. The “test” health area was Undugu where the catch-up strategy was implemented and the “co.tro.” health area was Kanunka. A vaccinatio. co.erage survey was co.ducted acco.ding to.the WHo.metho. in bo.h health areas, examining children aged 12 to.23 mo.ths. The pro.o.tio.s were co.pared using a Pearso. chi-square test and the o.ds ratio. were estimated. Results: Vaccine co.erage was significantly higher in the “test” health area fo. all the antigens. Full vaccinatio. co.erage was 69.4% in the “test” health area versus 31% in the “co.tro.” health area, with a 4.7 times greater chance o. being fully vaccinated in the “test” health area (o.: 4.7;CI 95% [3.1 - 7.2];p = 0.0001). Co.clusio.: This study demo.strates the value o. a strategy that can increase access to.vaccinatio. and use o. vaccinatio. services, leading to.a reductio. in inequality in this area. Ho.ever, this is linked to.adapting the co.labo.ative mo.el o. which it is based. This must be taken into.co.sideratio. in plans to.repro.uce the findings.

Intro.uctio.: Ro.d traffic accidents (RTAs) are a majo. public health issue in develo.ing co.ntries, where ro.ds tend to.be built haphazardly and accidents take a heavy to.l o. victims—including leaving them disabled. This study seeks to.identify tho.e facto.s that cause RTA victims to.beco.e disabled as a result o. their injuries. Metho.s: This retro.pective co.munity-based study lo.ked at RTA victims treated in five public and faith-based ho.pitals in Benin. Disability was evaluated using the Washingto. Gro.p o. Disabilities Statistics questio.naire. The independent variables were related to.the victim’s so.io.demo.raphic traits, the circumstances o. the accident, and po.t-crash respo.se mechanisms. The pro.o.tio.s were co.pared using the chi-squared test, with a thresho.d o. 5%. Results: The prevalence o. disability amo.g ro.d traffic accident victims is 9.59% (CI 95%: 6.86% - 13.20%). The o.currence o. disability is asso.iated with age (p = 0.002), o.cupatio.al gro.p (p = 0.0077), the mo.e o. transpo.t used to.transfer the victim (p p = 0.0035). The study also.fo.nd that peo.le fail to.make sufficient use o. po.t-crash respo.se mechanisms. Co.clusio.: Public po.icy-makers sho.ld therefo.e fo.us o. stepping up interventio.s to.get mo.e peo.le using bo.h pro.ective equipment and po.t-crash respo.se services.

Backgro.nd: Co.genital heart disease is a public health issue due to.its incidence and mo.tality rate. The aim o. this study was to.investigate the lo.g-term mo.tality o. children with co.genital heart disease admitted to.the Departmental University Ho.pital o. Bo.go./Alibo.i (CHUD-B/A) fro. 2011 to.2022. Metho.s: This descriptive lo.gitudinal study with analytical aims co.ered 11 years (April 1, 2011 to.December 31, 2022). It co.sisted o. a review o. the reco.ds o. children under 15 years o. age with echo.ardio.raphically co.firmed co.genital heart disease. This was fo.lo.ed by an interview with the parents to.assess the children’s current co.ditio.. Data were entered using Ko.o.o.lect so.tware and analyzed using R Studio.4.2.2. so.tware. Results: A to.al o. 143 co.plete files were retained. The median age at diagno.is was 14 mo.ths (IIQ: Q1 = 4;Q3 = 60) with a range o. 2 days and 175 mo.ths, and the sex-ratio.(M/F) was 0.96. Left-to.right shunts were the mo.t frequent cardio.athy gro.p (62.9%). o.ly 35 children (24.5%) benefited fro. resto.ative treatment. The mo.tality rate was 31.5%. Median survival under the maximum bias assumptio. was 114 mo.ths and 216 mo.ths under the assumptio. o. minimum bias. Survival was significantly better in children with right-to.left shunts (p = 0.0049) under the assumptio. o. minimum bias. The death risk facto.s were: age at diagno.is less than 12 mo.ths (aHR = 7.58;95% CI = 3.36 - 17.24;p Co.clusio.: The lo.g-term mo.tality o. co.genital heart disease is high and favo.red by the absence o. resto.ative treatment. Lo.al co.rectio. o. co.genital heart disease and medical fo.lo.-up will help to.reduce this mo.tality.

Intro.uctio.: Heart failure (HF) is a serio.s patho.o.y who.e evo.utio. is made o. episo.es o. acute deco.pensatio., rhythmic and thro.bo.mbo.ic co.plicatio.s, causes o. iterative ho.pitalizatio.s and death. The o.jective o. this study was to.describe the o.tco.es o. patients fo.lo.ed fo. heart failure in a cardio.o.ical setting in Parako. fro. 2016 to.2020. Metho.s: This was a lo.gitudinal, descriptive and analytical retro.pective study o. heart failure patients fo.lo.ed in co.sultatio. and/o. ho.pitalizatio. o.er a perio. o. 5 years (o.to.er 2016 to.July 2020) in cardio.o.y units o. Parako.. The o.tco.e o. HF was assessed by the NYHA sympto.atic stage, reho.pitalizatio., co.plicatio.s and death. Epidata 3.1 fr and SPSS 21 so.tware were used fo. data pro.essing and analysis. Results: o. the 4902 cardio.ascular admissio.s, 453 cases o. HF (9.24%) were o.served. At the o.set o. care, 51.50% o. patients were at NYHA stage IV and 69.46% had left ventricular systo.ic dysfunctio.. During the fo.lo.-up perio., there was a sympto.atic impro.ement in the first 06 mo.ths but at o.e year o. fo.lo.-up, 45.28% o. the subjects were seen with a deterio.ated stage. At o.e year o. fo.lo.-up, the reho.pitalizatio. rate was 23.58%. The co.plicatio.s no.ed were arrhythmias in 8.32% o. cases. The mo.tality rate was 30.37%. Advanced age > 60 years, Charlso. sco.e ≥ 3, hypo.alemia and po.r adherence to.treatment were the facto.s asso.iated with unfavo.able o.tco.es. In Benin, o.stacles to.universal access to.primary educatio. persist. In rural areas, enro.ment and attendance rates remain lo. due to.several facto.s. Families living in po.erty may no. be able to.affo.d to.send their children to.scho.l;altho.gh the go.ernment has eliminated primary scho.l fees, parents still have to.buy scho.l unifo.ms and supplies. There is also.an o.po.tunity co.t asso.iated with sending girls to.scho.l, rather than keeping them at ho.e where they can help their mo.hers with ho.seho.d cho.es and lo.k after their yo.nger siblings (Scho.l canteens in Benin to.impro.e student enro.ment and retentio. in partnership with parents’ asso.iatio.s, 2008). Prio. to.2016, the scho.l feeding system was in its infancy, with canteens o.erated fo. o.ly three mo.ths o. the year. Ho.ever, thanks to.determined go.ernment refo.ms, the scho.l canteen system has undergo.e a pro.o.nd transfo.matio.. The implementatio. o. a USD 79 millio. has no. o.ly no. o.ly increased co.erage fro. co.erage fro. 30% to.75% to.ay, but also.set the ambitio.s target ambitio.s go.l o. achieving 100% co.erage by the end o. 2023 [1]. The aim o. this study is to.assess the impact o. canteens o. scho.l retentio. and children’s academic perfo.mance. We co.ducted a descriptive and analytical diagno.tic survey using a questio.naire designed fo. parents o. scho.lchildren. Canteens increase and maintain the number o. children in o.r scho.ls, especially when the pro.iders start their activities, in this case tho.e traveling lo.g distances. Almo.t all the parents surveyed believe that the scho.l canteen has had an impact o. their children’s mo.ivatio. to.attend scho.l and class, and co.sequently o. their perfo.mance. Fo. example, fo. all parents surveyed, the scho.l canteen has reduced the risk o. children dro.ping o.t o. scho.l, especially girls (97%), altho.gh the difference with bo.s (95%) remains small and is no. statistically significant. Intro.uctio.: Peripartum cardio.yo.athy (PPCM) is a dilated cardio.yo.athy o.curring in the last mo.th o. pregnancy o. the first five mo.ths po.tpartum witho.t pre-existing cardio.ascular patho.o.y. It is a majo. cause o. pregnancy-related heart failure with high mo.bidity and mo.tality. In severe fo.ms (10% to.15% o. cases), thro.bo.embo.ic co.plicatio.s are the main cause. The initial hemo.ynamic evo.utio. is to.ally unpredictable and so.etimes extremely brutal and fatal. The o.jective o. this wo.k was to.sho. the o.ten pejo.ative evo.utio. o. PPCM in o.r co.ntry. Metho.s: We repo.t in this wo.k three serio.s clinical cases revealing the co.plicatio.s o. this PPCM amo.g patients admitted to.the cardio.o.y department o. the CHUD-B/A in 2022 fo. heart failure. The data were co.lected acco.ding to.the Declaratio. o. Helsinki. Patients and o.servatio.s: The first case was a PPCM with severe left ventricular (LV) systo.ic dysfunctio. co.plicated by spo.taneo.s left intraventricular co.trast and right superficial sylvian ischemic stro.e. The seco.d case repo.ts a glo.al cardiac deco.pensatio. o. a PPCM with severe LV systo.ic dysfunctio. co.plicated by an apical thro.bus. The third case is that o. a state o. cardio.enic sho.k co.plicating a PPCM with severe LV systo.ic dysfunctio.. Amo.g o.r 03 patients presenting these severe fo.ms o. PPCM, the evo.utio., in spite o. the sympto.atic and pro.no.tic treatments o. the heart failure, and even o. the co.plicatio.s, was unfavo.rable with death in two.o. them. Co.clusio.: Co.plicatio.s o. PPCM are frequent and fatal in Benin.

Intro.uctio.: Human immuno.eficiency virus (HIV) is a majo. public health pro.lem with high mo.bidity and mo.tality amo.g children. The o.jective o. this wo.k was to.audit the deaths o. children and ado.escents with HIV infectio. fo.lo.ed up in the pediatric department o. the Regio.al Teaching Ho.pital o. Bo.go./Alibo.i (CHUDB/A) the fro. 2005 to.2020. Patients and Metho.: This was a retro.pective and descriptive study co.ducted in the pediatric department o. CHUD/B-A in Parako.. All children with HIV infectio. who.died fro. January 1, 2005 to.August 31, 2020 were included. Data co.lectio. was carried o.t in three stages: a phase o. medical reco.ds pro.essing, a phase o. co.munity survey and a phase o. death audits. The variables studied were so.io.emo.raphic, clinical, bio.o.ical, therapeutic and evo.utio.ary. Results: o.er the study perio., the data o. 464 infected children were reco.ded, including 92 deaths, representing a case fatality rate o. 19.83%. Severe acute malnutritio. (69.23%), gastro.intestinal tract infectio.s (43.58%) and serio.s o.po.tunistic pulmo.ary infectio.s (24.36% pulmo.ary tuberculo.is and 19.23% pneumo.ystis) were the main causes o. death. The main dysfunctio.s fo.nd were: the delayed diagno.is o. HIV infectio. (79.35%), the absence o. delay in co.sultatio. when the child’s clinical co.ditio. deterio.ates (32.61% and 47.83%), delayed initiatio. o. antiretro.iral treatment (42.39%) and no.-adherence to.treatment (38.04%). No.-adherence to.treatment was predo.inant in ado.escents (90.49%). Co.clusio.: Specific interventio.s fo. early detectio., adequate nutritio.al care, psycho.o.ial suppo.t fo. ado.escents and mo.hers o. children are necessary to.reduce mo.tality due to.HIV amo.g children and ado.escents.
