Primary hepatic malignant fibrous histiocytoma (MFH) is rarely encountered. There have been no reports to date of hepatic MFH associated with liver cirrhosis. The presence of liver cirrhosis is considered an adjunctive feature favoring sarcomatoid hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) in the diagnosis of spindle cell tumors in liver. We describe here a 59-year-old man with liver cirrhosis due to hepatitis B virus infection 20 years ago. On abdominal computed tomography scanning, two distinct hepatic masses were identified in the background of cirrhosis, which had different radiological features from conventional HCC. He underwent segmentectomy for removal of the tumors. The pathological examination of surgically resected specimen revealed the large malignant spindle cell tumor and small conventional HCC. Additional tissue sampling and immunohistochemical stainings demonstrated that the spindle cell tumor was consistent with MFH. On the post-operative follow-up for 21 mo, a round mass showing similar radiological findings for the previous MFH was appeared on the surface of resection margin, suggesting the recurrence. Despite its rarity, hepatic MFH should be considered during differential diagnosis, even in cirrhotic patients, and extensive tissue sampling and immunohistochemical analyses are necessary in the diagnosis of hepatic spindle cell tumors.

In photoelectrochemical （PEC） water splitting, cha.ge separation and collection by the electric field in the photoactive material are the most important factors for improved conversion efficiency. Hence, ferroelectric oxides, in which electrons are the majority carriers, are considered promising photoanode materials because their high built-in potential, provided by their spontaneous polarization, can signifi＇canfly enhance the separation and drift of photogenerated carriers. In this regard, the PEC properties of BiFeO3 thin-film photoanodes with different crystallographic orientations and consequent ferroelectric domain structures are investigated. As the crystallographic orientation cha.ges from （001）pc via （ll0）pc to （lll）p~, the ferroelastic domains in epitaxial BiFeO3 thin films become mono-variant and the spontaneous polarization levels increase to 110 btC/cm2. Consequent136 the photocurrent density at 0 V vs. Ag/AgC1 increases approximately 5.3-fold and the onset potential decreases by 0.180 V in the downward polarization state. It is further demonstrated that ferroelectric switching in the （lll）pc BiFeO3 thin-film photoanode leads to an approximate cha.ge of 8,000% in the photocurrent density and a 0.330 V shift in the onset potential. This study strongly suggests that domain-engineered ferroelectric materials can be used as effective cha.ge separation and collection layers for efficient solar water-splitting photoanodes.

The layeredδ-MnO_(2)(dMO)is an excellent cathode material for recha.geable aqueous zinc-ion batteries owing to its large interlayer distance(~0.7 nm),high capacity,and low cost;however,such cathodes suffer from structural degradation during the long-term cycling process,leading to capacity *** this study,a Co-doped dMO composite with reduced graphene oxide(gC-dMO)is developed using a simple cost-effective hydrothermal *** degree of disorderness increases owing to the hetero-atom doping and graphene oxide *** is demonstrated that layered dMO and gC-dMO undergo a structural transition from K-birnessite to the Zn-buserite phase upon the first discha.ge,which enhances the intercalation of Zn^(2+)ions,H_(2)O molecules in the layered *** gC-dMO cathode exhibits an excellent capacity of 302 mAh g^(-1)at a current density of 100 mAg^(-1)after 100 cycles as compared with the dMO cathode(159 mAhg^(-1)).The excellent electrochemical performance of the gC-dMO cathode owing to Co-doping and graphene oxide sheets enhances the interlayer gap and disorderness,and maintains structural stability,which facilitates the easy reverse intercalation and de-intercalation of Zn^(2+)ions and H_(2)O ***,gC-dMO is a promising cathode material for large-scale aqueous ZIBs.

Comparison between uncovered and covered self-expandable metal stent placement in malignant duodenal obstruction

AIM:To compare the clinical outcomes of uncovered and covered self-expandable metal stent placements in patients with malignant duodenal ***:A total of 67 patients were retrospectivelyenrolled from January 2003 to June *** patients had symptomatic obstruction characterized by nausea,vomiting,reduced oral intake,and weight *** exclusion criteria included asymptomatic duodenal obstruction,perforation or peritonitis,concomitant small bowel obstruction,or duodenal obstruction caused by benign *** technical and clinical success rate,complication rate,and stent patency were compared according to the placement of uncovered(n = 38) or covered(n = 29) ***:The technical and clinical success rates did not differ between the uncovered and covered stent groups(100% vs 96.6% and 89.5% vs 82.8%).There were no differences in the overall complication rates between the uncovered and covered stent groups(31.6% vs 41.4%).However,stent migration occurred more frequently with covered than uncovered stents [20.7%(6/29) vs 0%(0/38),P ger in uncovered than in covered stents [251 d(95%CI:149.8 d-352.2 d) vs 139 d(95%CI:45.5 d-232.5 d),P g-rank test] The overall cumulative median survival period was not different between the uncovered stent(70 d) and covered stent groups(60 d).CONCLUSION:Uncovered stents may be preferable in malignant duodenal obstruction because of their greater resistance to stent migration and longer stent patency than covered stents.

Synthesis and Electrical Properties of TiO_2 Nanoparticles Embedded in Polyamide-6 Nanofibers Via Electrospinning

We report on the synthesis and characterizations of TiO2 nanoparticles embedded in polyamide-6composite nanofibers by using electrospinning technique. The influence of substrate on the electrical characteristics of polyamide-6/TiO2 composite nanofibers was investigated. The resultant nanofibers exhibit good incorporation of TiO2 nanoparticles. The doping of TiO2 nanoparticles into the polyamide-6 nanofibers were confirmed by high resolution transmission electron microscopy and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy. Photoluminescence（PL） and cathodoluminescence（CL） spectroscopy were also used to characterize the *** PL and CL spectra reveal that the as-spun polyamide-6/TiO2 composite nanofibers consisted of overlapping of two broad emission bands due to the contribution of polyamide-6（centered at about 475 nm）, which might originate from organic functional groups of polyamide-6 and TiO2 nanoparticles（centered around 550 nm）. The electrical conductivity of the polyamide-6/TiO2 composite nanofibers on different substrates was carried *** was found that the electrical conductivity of the polyamide-6/TiO2 composite nanofibers on silicon substrate was in the range of 13 μA, and about 1 to 20 p A for the paper and glass substrates.

Three different series of lead-free ceramics,i.e.,(1-y)Bi1.03(1_x)LaxFeO_(3)-yBaTiO_(3)(y=0.27,x=0.00-0.12),(y=0.30,x=0.00-0.10),and(y=0.33,x=0.00-0.08)are prepared via a conventional solid-state reaction with water *** X-ray diffraction and electrical property measurements,two morphotropic phase boundaries(MPBs)are discovered in all three ceramic *** first MPB(MPB-Ⅰ)appeared between rhombohedral and tetragonal phases,whereas the second MPB(MPB-Ⅱ)appeared between tetragonal and cubic-like *** highest direct piezoelectric coefficients(d_(33)=201,274,and 268 pC/N)are mainly attributed to the typical MPB-I of the rhombohedral and tetragonal ***,the highest converse piezoelectric coefficients(d_(33*)=490,500,and 570 pm/V with Curie temperature>330℃)are obtained for compositions near to the MPB-II.A significant enhancement in the dielectric constant at low temperature is associated with the local structural heterogeneity by La^(3+)doping,which serves as an origin for a high piezoelectric strain *** on the crystal structure as well as on the dielectric,ferroelectric,and piezoelectric properties,a phase diagram is constructed for La-doped BiFeO3-BaTiO3 *** phase diagram reveals the relationship between piezoelectric performance and crystal structure.

Advanced fibrosis determines the prognosis of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD);therefore,accurate risk-prediction for advanced fibrosis is fundamental in the management of NAFLD(1).Targeted screening for advanced fibrosis in high-risk populations,such as those with type 2 diabetes,obesity with metabolic complications,a family history of cirrhosis,or significant alcohol use is recommended for implementing early intervention to prevent future adverse hepatic outcomes of NAFLD(2,3).Non-invasive tests including fibrosis-4 index(FIB-4)and liver stiffness measurement(LSM)are recommended to identify individuals at a higher risk of liver-related events(1,2).In addition to clinical classifications,such as FIB-4;genetic information provides further stratification for liver-related outcomes(4).

Synthesis of Al-doped ZnO Nanorods via Microemulsion Method and Their Application as a CO gas Sensor

Aluminum doped ZnO(AZO) nanorods were synthesized by microemulsion method with different types of *** phase and the morphology of the above nanorods were investigated by scanning electron microscopy(SEM) and X-ray diffraction(XRD).SEM observations showed that the ZnO nanorods had diameters around about 50—200 nm and lengths up to several *** CO gas sensing properties of the AZO nanorods were tested at operating temperatures of 200,300,350 and 400 ℃.It was found that AZO nanorods based sensor exhibited the highest sensitivity to CO at 350℃.
