The intersection of health and disaster risk reduction(DRR) has emerged in recent years as a field of critical *** is recognized as an outcome and a goal of DRR,and the integration of both fields is essential to ensure the implementation of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015–*** Emergency and Disaster Risk Management(Health-EDRM) has emerged as an umbrella field that encompasses emergency and disaster medicine,DRR,humanitarian response,community health resilience,and health systems *** September 2016,an international group of experts met in Hong Kong to assess the current status and potential of the Health-EDRM research field,a research area that these scholars characterized as underdeveloped and *** challenges identified include research overlap,lack ofstrategic research agenda,absence of consensus regarding terminology,and limited coordination between *** Sendai Framework provides a useful paradigm within which to shape the research field's strategic *** WHO Thematic Platform for Health-EDRM Research Group was established to coordinate activities,promote information-sharing,develop partnerships,and provide technical advice to strengthen the Health-EDRM research *** group will promote the generation of robust and scientific health research to support the meaningful implementation of the Sendai Framework.

Risk Perception and Knowledge in Fire Risk Reduction in a Dong Minority Rural Village in china: A Health-EDRM Education Intervention Study

Fire is one of the major disasters in rural communities but evidence of the effectiveness of education interventions against fire risks is limited. This was a 2-year study assessed the effectiveness of face-to-face Health Emergency and Disaster Risk Management(HealthEDRM) education interventions for raising fire risk reduction knowledge in a fire-prone rural ethnic minority community. The study was conducted in various pre-set time points of an intervention-based project in a Dongbased community in Nanjiang Village, Guizhou Province in 2015 and 2016 to increase knowledge among the villagers about how to reduce general-and electrical-fire risks. Pre-and post-intervention questionnaires were used to evaluate the effectiveness of increasing fire risk-related knowledge through these interventions, immediately after the 2015 and 2016 interventions, and 17 months after the 2015 intervention. The knowledge of using fire blanket,recalling the correct emergency telephone number,unplugging unused electrical appliances, and not using water to extinguish electrical fires had immediately improved after the interventions. Subjects demonstrated a better understanding that fire blankets can fight a blaze if used appropriately, and that knowledge was sustained for 17 months. The interventions were effective in improving fire prevention and response knowledge. Targeted interventions should be organized according to communities' culture, the evolution of economic prosperity and lifestyle practices.

Surgical outcomes for unilateral superior oblique palsy in chinese population: a retrospective study

AIM: To evaluate the outcome after surgery for unilateral superior oblique(SO) palsy in ***: The medical records of 39 patients that underwent surgery for unilateral SO palsy between January 2003 and December 2012 at Caritas Medical Centre, Hong Kong, were retrospectively reviewed. All surgeries were performed by a single surgeon. Pre-operative assessments for vertical deviation, cyclo-deviation, and Knapp’s classification were obtained to determine the nature and degree of surgical *** deviation was measured at 1wk; 1, 6mo and on last follow-up day post-operatively. Cyclo-deviation was measured on last follow-up day ***: During the 10 y period, 39 subjects were recruited. The most common etiology was congenital(94.9%). Knapp’s Type III(66.7%) and Type I(12.8%)classifications were the most common subtypes. To treat SO palsy, the most common surgical procedures were:isolated inferior oblique(IO) anteriorization(41.0%),isolated IO myectomy(10.3%), and isolated IO recession(10.3%). At 3.5 ±2.1y post-operatively, the vertical deviation was significantly reduced(15.1 ±6.2 PD versus0.5±1.4 PD, P chieved a vertical deviation within ±3 PD.· CONCLUSION: The majority of subjects achieved corrected vertical deviation after a single surgery although there was no improvement in *** with over-correction of primary position deviation had greater preoperative vertical deviation and it may be related to simultaneous multiple muscle surgery.

Apparently balanced chromosomal structural rearrangements are known to cause male infertility and account for approximately 1%of azoospermia or severe ***,the underlying mechanisms of pathogenesis and etiologies are still largely ***,we investigated apparently balanced interchromosomal structural rearrangements in six cases with azoospermia/severe oligospermia to comprehensively identify and delineate cryptic structural rearrangements and the related copy number *** addition,high read-depth genome sequencing(GS)(30-fold)was performed to investigate point mutations causative of male ***-pair GS(4-fold)revealed additional structural rearrangements and/or copy number changes in 5 of 6 cases and detected a total of 48 ***,the breakpoints caused truncations of 30 RefSeq genes,five of which were associated with ***,the breakpoints disrupted 43 topological-associated *** disruptions or potential dysregulations of genes,which play potential roles in male germ cell development,apoptosis,and spermatogenesis,were found in all cases(n=6).In addition,high read-depth GS detected dual molecular findings in case MI6,involving a complex rearrangement and two point mutations in the gene ***,our study provided the molecular characteristics of apparently balanced interchromosomal structural rearrangements in patients with male *** demonstrated the complexity of chromosomal structural rearrangements,potential gene disruptions/dysregulation and single-gene mutations could be the contributing mechanisms underlie male infertility.

Prostate cancer detection upon transrectal ultrasound-guided biopsy in relation to digital rectal examination and prostate-specific antigen level： what to expect in the chinese population？

We investigated the prostate cancer detection rates upon transrectal ultrasound （TRUS）-guided biopsy in relation to digital rectal examination （DRE） and prostate-specific antigen （PSA）, and risk factors of prostate cancer detection in the chinese population. Data from all consecutive chinese men who underwent first TRUS-guided prostate biopsy from year 2000 to 2013 was retrieved from our database. The prostate cancer detection rates with reference to DRE finding and PSA level of 〈 4, 4-10, 10.1-20, 20.1-50 and 〉 50 ng ml^-1 were investigated. Multivariate logistic regression analyses were performed to investigate for potential risk factors of prostate cancer detection. A total of 2606 chinese men were included. In patients with normal DRE, the cancer detection rates were 8.6%, 13.4%, 21.8%, 41.7% and 85.2% in patients with PSA 〈 4, 4-10, 10.1-20, 20.1-50 and 〉 50 ng ml^-1 respectively. In patients with abnormal DRE, the cancer detection rates were 12.4%, 30.2%, 52.7%, 80.6% and 96.4% in patients with PSA 〈 4, 4-10, 10.1-20, 20.1-50 and 〉 50 ng m1-1 respectively. Older age, smaller prostate volume, larger number of biopsy cores, presence of abnormal DRE finding and higher PSA level were associated with increased risk of prostate cancer detection upon multivariate logistic regression analyses （P 〈 0.001）. chinese men appeared to have lower prostate cancer detection rates when compared to the Western population. Taking the different risk factors into account, an individualized approach to the decision of TRUS-guided biopsy can be adopted.

Nasopharyngeal carcinoma(NPC)is a malignant disease associated with Epstein–Barr virus(EBV)*** study aims to examine the effects of EBV infection on the production of proinflammatory cytokines in NPC cells after the Zn-BC-AM photodynamic therapy(PDT)*** were treated with the photosensitiser Zn-BC-AM for 24 h before light *** ELISA was used to evaluate the production of *** the same experimental condition,HK-1-EBV cells produced a higher basal level of IL-1a(1561 pg/ml),IL-1b(16.6 pg/ml)and IL-8(422.9 pg/ml)than the HK-1 *** the light dose of 0.25–0.5 J/cm2,Zn-BC-AM PDT-treated HK-1-EBV cells were found to produce a higher level of IL-1a and IL-1b than the HK-1 *** production of IL-1b appeared to be mediated via the IL-1b-converting enzyme(ICE)-independent *** contrast,the production of angiogenic IL-8 was downregulated in both HK-1 and HK-1-EBV cells after Zn-BC-AM *** results suggest that Zn-BC-AM PDT might indirectly reduce tumour growth through the modulation of cytokine production.

The performance characteristics of prostate-specific antigen and prostate-specific antigen density in chinese men

We investigated the performance characteristics of prostate-specific antigen （PSA） and PSA density （PSAD） in chinese men. All chinese men who underwent transrectal ultrasound-guided prostate biopsy （TRUS-PB） from year 2000 to 2013 were included. The receiver operating characteristic （ROC） curves for both PSA and PSAD were analyzed. The sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value （PPV） and negative predictive value （NPV） at different cut-off levels were calculated. A total of 2606 chinese men were included. For the ROC, the area under curve was 0.770 for PSA （P〈 0.001） and 0.823 for PSAD （P〈 0.001）. PSA of 4.5 ng ml^-1 had sensitivity of 94.4%, specificity of 14.1%, PPV of 29.5%, and NPV of 86.9%; PSAD of 0.12 ng ml^-1cc^-1 had sensitivity of 94.5%, specificity of 26.6%, PPV of 32.8%, and NPV of 92.7%. On multivariate logistic regression analyses, PSA cut-off at 4.5 ng ml^-1 （OR 1.61, 95% CI 1.05-2.45, P = 0.029） and PSAD cut-off at 0.12 ng ml^-1 cc^-1 （OR 6.22, 95% CI 4.20-9.22, P 〈 0.001） were significant predictors for prostate cancer detection on TRUS-PB. In conclusion, the performances of PSA and PSAD at different cut-off levels in chinese men were very different from those in Caucasians. PSA of 4.5 ng ml^-1 and PSAD of O. 12 ng ml^-1 cc^-1 had near 95% sensitivity and were significant predictors of prostate cancer detection in chinese men.

AIM:To investigate the role of IKBKAP(inhibitor of kappa light polypeptide gene enhancer in B-cells,kinase complexassociated protein)in the development of enteric nervous system(ENS)and Hirschsprung disease(HSCR).METHODS:In this study,we injected a morpholino that blocked the translation of ikbkap protein to 1-cell stage zebrafish *** phenotype in the ENS was analysed by antibody staining of the pan-neuronal marker Hu C/D followed by enteric neuron *** mean numbers of enteric neurons were compared between the morphant and the *** also studied the expressions of ret and phox2bb,which are involved in ENS development,in the ikbkap morpholino injected embryos by quantitative reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction and compared them with the ***:We observed aganglionosis(χ2,Pch as ret,phox2bb and sox10,and found that phox2bb,the ortholog of human PHOX2B,was significantly down-regulated(0.51±0.15 vs 1.00±0,P<0.05).Although we also observed a reduction in theexpression of ret,the difference was not ***:Loss of IKBKAP contributed to HSCR as demonstrated by functional analysis in zebrafish embryos.

Assessment of Sericin Biosorbent for Selective Dye Removal

The silk sericin is the main residue in silk production and it is found to be a low cost and efficient bio-sorbent. In this study, sericin was characterized with various techniques including SEM （scanning electron micro- scope）, XRD, N2 physisorption, FTIR （Fourier transformed infrared spectroscopy） and XPS （X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy）. The nitrogen content of sericin was ca. 8.5 mmol.g-1 according to elemental analysis. Dye adsorption by sericin biosorbent was investigated with the acid yellow （AY）, methylene blue （MB） and copper （II） phthalocyanine-3,4＇4＂4＇＂-tetrasulfonic acid （CuPc） dyes from water. Sericin displayed large capacity for AY andCuPc adsorption with adsorption capacities of respectively 3.1 and 0.35 mmol.g-1, but it did not adsorbed methyl- ene blue dye. This selectivity is due to the basicity of amide groups in seriein biosorbents.
