Objective： Even though radiotherapy plays a major role in the local treatment of non-small cell lung cancer （NSCLC）, little is known about the molecular effects of irradiation in this tumor. In the present study, we examined two NSCLC cell lines for their endogenous production of TNF-α after irradiation. To investigate the radiation-induced TNF-α production in NSCLC cell lines. Methods： Two human NSCLC cell lines （A549： squamous; NCI-H596： adenosquamous） were investigated for their TNF-α mRNA （real-time RT-PCR） after exposure to different irradiation doses （2, 5, 10, 20, 30, 40 Gy） and time intervals （1, 3, 6, 12, 24, 48 or 72 h）. The TNF-α mRNA expression was quantified by real-time RT-PCR. The clonogenic survival was evaluated after irradiation with 2, 4, 6 and 8 Gy. Results： Non-irradiated NSCLC cells exhibited no or very low TNF-α expression. For the NCI-H596 cell line, TNF-α expression was significantly elevated 1～12 h （maximum 6h： 568fold increase relative to unirradiated cells） in a time-dependent manner. The radiation-induced increase could be observed after irradiation with 2 Gy reaching maximal at 40 Gy, with 83 times higher than normal controls. The clonogenic survival of these cell lines was nearly identical. Conclusion： NCI-H596 cells produce significant quantities of TNF-α following irradiation in a time- and dose-dependent manner. The pro-inflammatory cytokine TNF-α is a key mediator for the pathogenesis of radiation pneumonitis. Radiation-induced endogenous TNF-α expression in NSCLC cells may affect the normal lung adjacent to the tumor and may be associated with an adverse clinical outcome of the patient.

In case of lightly loaded radial ball bearings,failure mechanisms other than fatigue such as smearing of raceways due to increased frictional torque and vibrations often ***,attempts have been made herein for reducing the frictional torque and minimizing the vibrations of a radial deep groove ball bearing employing surface textures at the inner *** pulsed laser was used to create texture(involving micro-dimples having different dimple area density)on the inner race of test *** an in-house developed test rig,frictional torque and vibrational parameters were measured at different speeds and light loads(*** vicinity of 0.01C,where C is dynamic load capacity of radial ball bearing).Significant reduction in frictional torque and overall vibrations were found in the presence of micro-dimples on inner race at light loads irrespective of operating *** without satisfying the minimum load needed criteria for the satisfactory operation,substantial reduction in smearing marks was found on the races of textured ball bearings in comparison to conventional cases.

Micro-textured surfaces have improved the tribological performance of contact surfaces under lubricated conditions;however,not practiced due to manufacturing *** addition to simpler micro-pits or straight-trench type textures,sophisticated bioinspired textures on commercial radial ball bearings have been scarcely *** this work,Dendroaspis polylepis(Mamba snake)skin-type textures were fabricated on the inner race of FAG radial ball bearings using a nanosecond fiber laser *** the snake textures were primarily meant to enhance friction,the dimensions of the texture have been carefully chosen to improve the tribological performance under lubricated *** textured bearings were assembled and experimented at various rotational speeds and lightly loaded conditions to measure vibrational amplitude,frictional torque,and temperature *** to untextured(conventional)bearing,the snake-skin type textured bearings resulted in improved tribo-dynamic performance.

BACKGROUND: Although low central venous pressure (CVP) has been used to minimize blood loss during hepatectomy the impact of variations of CVP on the rate of blood loss and on the perfusion of end-organs has not been evaluated This animal study aimed to evaluate the hemodynamics and oxygen transport changes during hepatic resection at different CVP levels. METHODS: Forty-eight anesthetized Bama miniature pigs were divided into 8 groups with CVP during hepatic resection controlled at 0 to <1, 1 to <2, 2 to <3, 3 to <4, 4 to <5, 5 to <6, 6 to <7, and 7 to <8 cmH 2 O. Intergroup comparisons were made for hemodynamic parameters, oxygen transport dynamics, and the rate of blood loss. RESULTS: The rate of blood loss and the hepatic venous pressure during hepatic resection were almost linearly related to the CVP. A significant drop in the mean arterial pressure cardiac output, and cardiac index occurred between CVP ≥2 and <2 cmH 2 O. Oxygen delivery (DO 2 ), oxygen consumption (VO 2 ) and oxygen extraction ratio (ERO 2 ) remained relatively constant between CVPs of 2 to <8 cmH 2 O. There was a significant drop in DO 2 when the CVP was <2 cmH 2 O. There was also a significant drop in VO 2 and ExO 2 when the CVP was <1 cmH 2 ***: The optimal CVP for hepatic resection is 2to 3 cmH2O.
