A facile,one-pot,urea solution combustion route was utilized to synthesize highly catalytic CeO2 ***2 prepared under vary.ng thermal conditions was ch.racterized by electron microscopy,energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy,X-ray diffraction,X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy,infrared and Raman *** the synthesis temperature is raised from 400 to 1000℃,the crystallite size and dspacing of nanoparticles are observed to reduce while cell parameters remain in the same *** size exhibits an accession from~20 to~50 nm along the *** CeO2 nanoparticles are detected as a composite structure of CeO2 and graphitic carbon nitride(g-C3 n4)produced by the pyrolysis of *** the solid carbon particulate oxidation capacity,an outstanding performance is exhibited by CeO2 synthesized at 800℃where the oxidation onset temperature is reduced by 27%compared with the *** superior performance is attributed to the carbon nitride-generated unique CeO2 nanomorphology consolidating ample reactive sites and facilitated oxygen delivery for a highly efficient thermocatalytic *** atmospheric pollution mitigation,synthesis of these CeO2 nanostructures represents a cost effective and convenient abatement tech.ique for carbon particulates in comparison to cost-intensive,environmentally detrimental and noble-metal based tech.iques.

Objective: To explore the effects of nigella sativa oil(nSO) on the histopathological and bioch.mical ch.nges that inhaled formaldehyde(FA) induces on the testicular tissue of rats. Methods: Thirty three adult male rats were separated into five groups as follows: C, the control group; 4 FA group which.received FA for 4 weeks; 13 FA group which.was given FA for 13 weeks; 4 FA+nSO group which.was administered FA plus nSO for 4 weeks; 13 FA+nSO group which.was treated with FA plus nSO for 13 weeks. FA was administered through inhalation for 8 h 5 days a week at a dose of 5 ppm in a special glass cage, and nSO was administered orally 1 mL/kg once daily. Rats were decapitated at the end of the experiment and testicular tissue specimens were harvested for histopathologic and bioch.mical assessment. Results: Compared to the C group, reduction was observed in the number of intact tubules and in the mean germinative epithelium thickness of the FA groups. Significant increase was observed in the number of intact tubules with the long-term(13 weeks) administration of nSO together with FA. Reduced glutathione peroxidase activity was found and oxidative stress index values were measured higher in the 4 FA and 13 FA groups versus the C group(Pntioxidant status levels decreased only in the 4 FA group(Pnly the 13 FA group significantly increased malondialdehyde levels and reduced catalase activities in comparison with the C group. In the 13 FA+nSO group, malondialdehyde levels decreased however glutathione peroxidase and catalase activities increased compared to the 13 FA group. Differences measured in total antioxidant status levels were found to be statistically significant only between the 4 FA and the 4 FA+nSO groups. Conclusions: nSO as an antioxidant should be used for a longer term to ach.eve protective efficacy both histopathologically and bioch.mically in the testicular tissue.

The effect of Sn, Ca, Al, Si and Zn addition on the compressive strength of cast Mg-Sn-Ca （TX） alloys was studied in the temperature range of 25-250 °C and correlated with the microstructure. The Sn to Ca mass ratio up to 2.5 contributes to the formation of Mg2Ca phase at the grain boundaries and CaMgSn in the matrix, while a ratio of 3 gives only CaMgSn phase mostly in the matrix. While the compressive strength decreases with the increase in temperature, for Sn/Ca up to 2.5, a plateau occurs in 100-175 °C, which.is attributed to the strengthening by Mg2Ca. However, for ratio of 3, the strength is lower and decreases more gradually. Mg-3Sn-2Ca （TX32） has the highest strength and the addition of 0.4%Al increases its strength but simultaneous addition of Si lowers the strength. Likewise, the addition of Zn improves its strength but simultaneous addition of Al slightly decreases the strength. The results are correlated with the types of intermetallic phases that form in various alloys.

Spent mushroom substrate(SMS)is an abundant residue generated by the mushroom industry,which.is mostly *** this study,the SMS of four cultivated mushrooms were evaluated as potential sources of ligninolytic *** ostreatus,***,*** and Ganoderma lucidum were cultivated in two different substrates to determine growth,mushroom yields and ligninolytic activity of laccase(Lac)and manganese peroxidase(MnP).Maximum activities in the SMS were 3.731 u/g Lac and 0.191 u/g MnP,both for *** mushroom substrates were also analyzed,and higher activities were found in almost all samples.A correlation test between mushroom yields and ligninolytic activities of each.culture was made,and we found that high enzymatic activity in the substrate did not result in high mushroom productivity or vice *** SMS was a good source of ligninolytic *** activity depended on the mushroom species and its affinity to the substrate,and it was not influenced by the mushroom *** of mushrooms in diverse lignocellulosic substrates is gaining interest,and ob-taining ligninolytic enzymes from residual SMS is an excellent alternative in the circular economy concept.

Highly repeatable multilevel bipolar resistive switch.ng in Ti/Ce Ox/Pt nonvolatile memory device has been demonstrated. X-ray diffraction studies of Ce O2 films reveal the formation of weak polycrystalline structure. The observed good memory performance, including stable cycling endurance and long data retention times（〉10^4s） with an acceptable resistance ratio（～10^2）, enables the device for its applications in future non-volatile resistive random access memories（RRAMs）. Based on the unique distribution ch.racteristics of oxygen vacancies in Ce Ox films, the possible mech.nism of multilevel resistive switch.ng in Ce Ox RRAM devices has been discussed. The conduction mech.nism in low resistance state is found to be Ohmic due to conductive filamentary paths, while that in the high resistance state was identified as Ohmic for low applied voltages and a space-ch.rge-limited conduction dominated by Sch.ttky emission at high applied voltages.

Scale Effects of Geographical Soil Datasets on Soil Carbon Estimation in Louisiana,uSA:A Comparison of STATSGO and SSuRGO

Estimation of soil organic carbon （SOC） pools and fluxes bears large uncertainties because SOC stocks vary greatly over geographical space and through time. Although development of the u.S. Soil Survey Geographic Database （SSuRGO）, currently the most detailed level with a map scale ranging from 1：12 000 to 1：63 360, has involved substantial government funds and coordinated network efforts, very few studies have utilized it for soil carbon assessment at the large landscape scale. The objectives of this study were to 1） compare estimates in soil organic matter among SSuRGO, the State Soil Geographic Database （STATSGO）, and referenced field measurements at the soil map unit; 2） examine the influence of missing data on SOC estimation by SSuRGO and STATSGO; 3） quantify spatial differences in SOC estimation between SSuRGO and STATSCO, specifically for the state of Louisiana; and 4） assess scale effects on soil organic carbon density （SOCD） estimates from a soil map unit to a watershed and a river basin scale. SOC was estimated using soil attributes of SSuRGO and STATSGO including soil organic matter （SOM） content, soil layer depth, and bulk density. Paired t-test, correlation, and regression analyses were performed to investigate various relations of SOC and SOM among the datasets. There were positive relations of SOC estimates between SSuRGO and STATSGO at the soil map unit （R2 = 0.56, n = 86, t = 1.65, P = 0.102; depth： 30 cm）. However, the SOC estimated by STATSGO were 9%, 33% and 36~ lower for the upper 30-cm, the upper l-m, and the maximal depth （up to 2.75 m） soils, respectively, than those from SSuRGO. The difference tended to increase as the spatial scale ch.nges from the soil map unit to the watershed and river basin scales. Compared with the referenced field measurements, the estimates in SOM by SSuRGO showed a closer match.than those of STATSCO, indicating that the former was more accurate than the latter in SOC estimation, both in spatial and temporal resoluti

PuRPOSE: Clinicopathologic staging is even today the best prognostic factor in both colon and rectal cancers. There is still considerable variation in surviva l within the stages. To find other prognostic indicators we investigated six bio logic markers associated with apoptosis and cell proliferation. METHODS: Formali n-fixed, paraffin-embedded tissue samples of 363 patients with primary colon o r rectal cancer of Dukes Stages A to D were ch.sen for immunohistoch.mical stain ing of five tumor markers: bcl-2, p53, Ki-67, cyclin D1, and carcinoembry.nic antigen. Also, the number of apoptotic cells was studied by the terminal deoxy.u cleotidyl transferase-mediated d-uTP nick end labeling method in 347 cases. Th e study was done on specially prepared tissue arrays. RESuLTS: In rectal cancer, patients with a Ki-67 labeling index of 5 percent or higher had a better progn osis than those with a lower index. Also, positive cytoplasmic p53 expression pr edicted a favorable outcome in rectal cancer. In colon cancer, positive nuclear staining of cyclinD1 reflected better survival. Weak and moderate staining of ca rcinoembry.nic antigen correlated with better prognosis than strong staining, bu t negative staining predicted poor outcome. High apoptotic index of 100 or highe r correlated with poor prognosis in colon cancer. However, in rectal cancer, the trend was the opposite. Bcl-2 staining tended to be more intense in samples of patients living 5 years or longer compared with those with worse prognosis. COn CLuSIOnS: Colon cancer and rectal cancer seem to have different biologic behavio r, at least with respect to apoptosis, cytoplasmic p53 expression, and perhaps K i-67 and carcinoembry.nic antigen. Further studies are needed to clarify the si gnificance of these factors.
