According to WHO, cancer is a leading cause of death worldwide, accounting for 8.2 million deaths in 2012. Among several factors involved in the pathogenesis of cancer, free radical formation followed by damage to DNA and cell protein is one of the causes. Natural plant products have gained enormous interest in the prevention or treatment of ch.onic diseases. Ferulic acid, like other phenolic acids (caffeic acid, sinapic acid) possess anti cancer activity. A series of ferulic esters (FE1 - FE11) and ferulic amides (FA1 - FA10) were synthesized and evaluated for their cytotoxic activity.

ch.racteristics of ionospheric scintillation climatology over Indian low-latitude region during the 24th solar maximum period

The amplitude and phase of L-band satellite signals are fluctuated randomly due to small scale electron density irregularity structures in the ionosphere which.result in fleeting variations, known as 'ionospheric scintillations'. The Global Navigation Satellite System(GNSS) is a profound remote sensing tool to monitor, model and forecast the ionospheric weather conditions. In this paper, the GNSS amplitude scintillation data has been analyzed during the year 2013 at Bengaluru(12.9°N, 77.59°E) and Lucknow(26.8467°N, 80.9462°E) stations to reinforce climatology of ionospheric scintillation over Indian low-latitude region. The probability of scintillation occurrence and their variations over equatorial and Equatorial Ionization Anomaly(EIA) regions in India are analyzed during various geomagnetic quiet and disturbed days, months and seasons. The annual occurrence of amplitude scintillations are mapped with the function of local time. It is observed from the experimental results that the probability of scintillations occurrences is higher over EIA region than over the equatorial region. The probability of scintillations is higher during March.equinox and December solstice, and lowest during June *** of scintillations is intense during post-sunset period. The maximum percentage of scintillation occurrences at the two stations are recorded in November. Moreover, the highest percentage of scintillation occurrences took place on storm day(March.17, 2013) at the two stations. This work would be helpful for understanding the features of GNSS amplitude scintillations over Southern and Northern Indian regions. Moreover, these kinds of investigations are helpful for developing new algorithms to nowcast and forecast ionospheric scintillations over Indian Sub-continent.

Spectroscopic and fluorescence properties of Sm^(3+)-doped zincfluorophosphate glasses

Optical absorption and fluorescence spectra of Sm3＋-doped zincfluorophosphate glasses with molar composition of 44P2O5＋17K20＋9Al2O3＋（30-χ）ZnF2＋χSm2O3 （χ=0.01 mol.%, 0.05 mol.%, 0.1 mol.%, 0.5 mol.%, 1.0 mol.%, 2.0 and 3.0 mol.%） referred as PKAZFSm were prepared by melt quench.ng tech.ique and were ch.racterized through Raman, absorption, emission and decay curve analysis. From the absorption spectra, Judd-Ofelt intensity parameters were determined and were used to predict radiative properties such.as transition probabilities （AR, radiative lifetimes （τR）, branch.ng ratios （βR）, effective bandwidths （△λeff） and stimulated emission cross-section （σ（λp）） for the excited 4G5/2 luminescent level. The decay curve for the 4G5/2 level was single exponential for lower concentration and became non-exponential for higher concentrations. The non-exponential nature of the decay curves of the 4G5/2 level increased with increase in Sm3＋ ions concentration accompanied by decrease in lifetime due to energy transfer processes among the Sm3＋ ions. The non-exponential decay curves was well fitted to the generalized Inokuti-Hirayama model for S=6, indicating that the energy transfer among optically active ions was of dipole-dipole interaction. The cross-relaxation mech.nism responsible for the quench.ng of lifetimes and the effect of variation of concentration on the spectroscopic properties were also discussed.

目的　初步探讨组织多普勒曲线M型速度图(CMM TVI)和应变(Strain)、应变率(strainrate ,SR)显像新技术对定量检测局部心肌功能的可靠性。方法　通过超声多普勒组织成像的TVI和sri成像模式,结合同步记录的心电图,分别观察及测量2 0例健康成年人和14例房间隔缺损(ASD)患者心尖四腔观室间隔和右室游离壁各节段心肌在不同时相的运动速度及应变、应变率。结果　①正常组室间隔和右室游离壁的运动速度、应变及应变率从基底到心尖呈下降趋势;②与正常对照组比较,ASD患者右室游离壁各节段的运动速度及应变、应变率均大于正常组,P <0 .0 5。结论　组织多普勒曲线M型的速度和应变率显像是一种可用于评价局部心肌功能的超声影像新技术,可以为患者的临床治疗和估计预后提供重要的信息。
