Impact of environmental factors on COVID-19 cases and mortalities in major cities of Pakistan

Introduction:Climate factors play an important role in the transmission of viruses,such as influenza viruses,MERS-CoV,and *** study aimed to determine the relationship between changes in temperature,humidity,rainfall,and SARS-CoV-2 *** ecologically and climatically distinct regions were considered—Karachi,Lahore,Islamabad,Peshawar,and ***:Data on daily COVID-19 cases and deaths were retrieved from government officials,while meteorological information was collected from Pakistan Meteorological *** analysis was performed using SPSS version 20 and the Spearman rank correlation test was used to analyze the correlation between the meteorological factors and COVID-19 cases and ***:Positive correlation of COVID-19 incidence was observed with all the temperature ranges(maximum,minimum and average)and negative correlation was seen with humidity,DTR and ***-19 deaths were positively associated with temperature and were negatively associated only with *** regression showed that for every unit increase in humidity,there was a3.345 daily signifi-cant decrease in COVID-19 cases,while in Karachi for every unit increase in humidity,there remained a 10.104 daily significant increase in *** Gilgit-Baltistan,for every unit increase in average temperature and rainfall respectively,significant increases of 0.534 and 1.286 in daily cases were ***:This study signifies the effect of climate factors on COVID-19 incidence and mortality rate,but climate factors are not the only variable and several other interlinked factors enhance the spread of ***,effective mitigation policies,enhancing testing capacities,and developing public attitudes toward adopting precautionary measures are important to overcome this overwhelming pandemic.

Objective:To explore the medicinal importance of the stem of Desmodium elegans,methanolic extract,and its different solvent fractions were evaluated for brine shrimp lethality,insecticidal and phytotoxicity,antifungal,and antibacterial ***:The methanolic extract and its solvent fractions were tested for cytotoxic,phytotoxic,insecticidal,antifungal,and antibacterial effects using our previous published ***:The methanolic,DCM,ethyl acetate and n-butanol fractions exhibited insecticidal effect against Callosobruchus analis and Rhyzopertha *** methanolic extract,n-hexane,DCM ethyl acetate and n-butanol showed 75,85,85,65 and 5%phytotoxicity at the tested concentration of 500μg/*** solvent fractions(DCM and ethyl acetate)were effective against ***(10%and 20%,inhibition respectively).All the tested samples were devoid of cytotoxic and antibacterial ***:It was concluded diat diis plant can be practiced for control of weeds and insects.

Developing anatase/rutile phase-junction in Ti O_(2)to construct Z-scheme system is quite effective to improve its photoelectrochemical *** this work,the anatase/rutile phase-junction Ag/Ti O_(2)nanocomposites are developed as photocathodes for hydrogen *** optimized Ag/Ti O_(2)nanocomposite achieves a high current density of 1.28 m A cm-2,an incident photon-to-current conversion efficiency(IPCE)of 10.8%,an applied bias photon-to-current efficiency(ABPE)of 0.32 at 390 nm and a charge carriers’lifetime up to 2000 *** enhancement on photoelectrochemical activity can be attributed to:(ⅰ)the generated Z-scheme system in the anatase/rutile phase-junction Ag/Ti O_(2)photocathode enhances the separation,diffusion and transformation of electron/hole pairs inside the structure,(ⅱ)Ag nanodots modification in the anatase/rutile phases leading to the tuned band gap with enhanced light absorption and(ⅲ)the formed Schottky barrier after Ag nanodots surface modification provides enough electron traps to avoid the recombination of photogenerated electrons and *** results here suggest that developing phase-junction nanocomposite as photocathode will provide a new vision for their enhanced photoelectrochemical generation of hydrogen.

The evolution of a two-chambered heart,with an atrium and a ventricle,has improved heart function in both deuterostomes(vertebrates)and some protostomes(invertebrates).Although studies have examined the unique structure and function of these two chambers,molecular comparisons are few and limited to ***,we focus on the two-chambered protostome heart of the mollusks,offering data that may provide a better understanding of heart ***,we asked if the atrium and ventricle differ at the molecular level in the mollusk *** do so,we examined two very different species,the giant African land snail(Lissachatina fulica)and the relatively small,aquatic yesso scallop(Mizuhopecten yessoensis),with the assumption that if they exhibited commonality these similarities would likely reflect those across the *** found that,although the hearts of these two species differed histologically,their cardiac gene function enrichments were similar,as revealed by transcriptomic ***,the atrium and ventricle in each species had distinct gene function clusters,suggesting an evolutionary differentiation of cardiac chambers in ***,to explore the relationship between vertebrate and invertebrate two-chambered hearts,we compared our transcriptomic data with published data from the zebrafish,a well-studied vertebrate model with a two-chambered *** analysis indicated a functional similarity of ventricular genes between the mollusks and the zebrafish,suggesting that the ventricle was differentiated to achieve the same functions in invertebrates and *** the first such study on protostomes,our findings offered initial insights into how the two-chambered heart arose,including a possible understanding of its occurrence in both protostomes and deuterostomes.

Application of Reconstruction and Optimization Algorithms in Optical Tomography

Optical tomography is a non-invasive technique that uses visible or near infrared radiation to analyze biological tissues. Researchers take immense attention towards advancement in optical tomography because of its low cost and an advantage of providing anatomical information. Based on the information of optical characteristics, forward and inverse problem of tomography are solved. In this research, finite element method is employed for forward problem and gradient-based optimization algorithm is developed for inverse problem of optical tomography. It is found from simulations that information about imaging is processed more distinctly and in less computational time. Normal and abnormal conditions in imaging are readily distinguished.?Simulations are carried out in Matlab. Different scenarios are developed and are simulated to validate the performance of reconstruction and optimization algorithms in optical tomography.

Objective:To evaluate the radiological features of IgG4-related disease(IgG4-RD)in the head and neck ***:In this radiology-based study,radiological features,clinical,laboratory,pathological findings,and prognosis of nine patients with head and neck involvement diagnosed with IgG4-RD were investigated ***:The median age of the patients was 38 years(range:2.5-79 years),and there were six males and three *** most common symptoms and clinical findings of the patients were eyelid and lacrimal gland swelling,painless exophthalmos,and *** most common site of involvement on MRI was the *** involvement was followed by branches of the trigeminal nerve,sinonasal cavity,cervical lymph nodes,and dural *** most common and remarkable imaging features were T2 hypointensity and diffuse homogeneous contrast ***:Head and neck involvement of the IgG4-RD,has specific imaging features that can help with ***,early diagnosis and better outcomes can be achieved with increasing awareness of these features of this relatively new pathology.

Geophysical Investigation of the Triassic Salt Material Hazard: El Fahs Case Example (Northern Tunisia)

The Tunisian territory (area of diapirs) is exposed to the risks of ground movements linked to water, some of which are related to the phenomenon of dissolution of gypsum, allowing the appearance of underground cavities which present natural risks and set people in danger. The analysis of the hazard was determined by the field study coupled with the application of geophysical methods to locate and map the cavities and identify their dimensions and their positions in the subsoil. In the region of El Fahs (40 km NW of Tunis): we used a non-destructive method, georadar (GPR) with a 200 MHz antenna band-width, and an electric method, by using the electric tomography of which we have applicated the sequence of dipole-dipole measurement. The results ob-tained were examined and interpreted according to 2D profiles. The geophysi-cal methods of GPR and electrical tomography aim to detect many calvities in different depths. However, the geological radar was able to identify several cavities and the zones of dissolution whose investigation depth did not exceed the first 3 meters. On the contrary, the electric tomography method allowing the presence of several deeper underground cavities with larger dimensions ex-tended to 64 meters. To conclude, the geological and hydrogeological contexts of the terrain studied and on the state of the soil and subsoil allow us to better understanding the mechanisms of the establishment of the dissolution phe-nomenon and the appearance of cavities in the basement. The analysis of the predisposing factors present in the study area shows that the geodynamic con-text of the Triassic ascent takes place according to a precise thermodynamic process that favors the phenomenon of dissolution of the gypsum.

Magnetic Field Effects on the Microstructural Variation of Electrodeposited Nickel Film

Electrodeposition of nickel on copper (ferro- and paramagnetic metals, respectively) has been carried out from the Watts bath. In view of magnetic properties of the two metals, the deposition has been done in the presence of weak (0.16T) applied magnetic field; the field applied was kept both parallel as well as perpendicular to the current direction. Main objective of the present work is to improve the deposit quality. In this regard effect of applied magnetic field and its orientation on the features of the deposit have been investigated. characterization of the deposit has been based on the surface morphology of the deposited film, its compactness, size and shape of Ni-grains as well as their growth pattern. Alterations in the structure of deposited layers are seemed by changing the orientation of the applied magnetic field. The observed difference is essentially ascribed to the increase mass transport, decrease diffusion layer thickness near the electrode surface and on the magnetic properties of nickel. A combination of scanning electron microscopy (SEM) with atomic force microscopy (AFM) has been deployed for morphological studies of electrodeposited nickel.

International Outcomes of COVID-19 during Pregnancy and a Literature Review on Maternal and Neonatal Outcomes

Since the first report of COVID-19 in December 2019, our knowledge and treatment modalities have evolved at great pace understanding its impact on the maternal and neonatal outcomes. Whilst pregnant patients are not more susceptible to acquiring the infection as compared to the general population, they may be at higher risk of developing severe symptoms given the physiological changes, relative immune-compromised state of pregnancy, and their neonates at risk of consequent iatrogenic preterm deliveries. Our review article discusses outcomes of pregnant women and neonates with COVID-19 from several countries including the UK, USA, France, Italy and China and provides a narrative review of literature from November 2019 till December 2020.

Screening of antibacterial activity in marine green, red and brown macroalgae from the western coast of Libya

Marine macroalgae are considered as an excellent source of bioactive compounds which has a broad range of biological activities including antibacterial and antioxidant. Crude methanolic and water extracts of 19 marine algal species (6 chlorophyta, 8 Phaeophyta and 5 Rhodophyta) collected from the western coast of Libya were evaluated for antibacterial activity against pathogenic bacteria (4 Gram-positive, 4 Gram-nega- tive). The extracts showed a significant antibacterial activity against Gram positive (Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus subtilis, Bacillus spp., and Staphylococcus epidermidis) as well as Gram negative bacteria (Escherichia coli, Salmonella typhi, Klebsiella spp., and Pseudomonas aerugi- nosa). The algal aqueous and methanolic extracts displayed different degrees of antimicrobial activities against different bacteria, in some cases methanolic extracts showed higher antibacterial activity than aqueous extracts. Among tested algae, Brown algae namely Cystoseira crinite exhibited the highest antibacterial activity among tested algal species.
