Using risk-benefit analysis to control Salmonella in chicken meat

We have created a risk-benefit analysis(RBA)model to assist in food safety decision-making by analyzing Salmonella control in Brazilian chicken ***,we described the issues in a risk profile and used a 5x5 matrix to rank the risks associated with *** then classified the magnitude of benefits and costs of control measures using another ***,we verified the beneficial effects of recommended control measures using Quantitative Microbiological Risk Assessment(QMRA).The RBA classified Salmonella contamination as risk 6,indicating that control measures should be taken in the short and medium *** also recommended the adoption of biosecurity measures on farms to reduce the prevalence of Salmonella in birds,better control of carcass washings and chiller tank management,and information placement on packages and campaigns to raise the awareness of the population about the need to control Salmonella contamination before *** the other hand,it did not recommend better controls at scalding and *** confirmed the beneficial effects of the recommended control *** example,as Salmonella prevalence in poultry increased from 4.04 per cent to 50 per cent,the risk of infection per serving also increased from 0.0080 to *** better controls in washings and chiller tank management did not affect the risk of infection,it reduced Salmonella counts on *** assume that the presence of Salmonella on carcasses was due to improper thermal processing or cross-contamination,which increased the risk from 0.0080 to *** RBA demonstrated the logic involved in the adoption of control measures,and this can be helpful in the risk management of food safety issues.

Sugarcane mosaic virus(SCMV)is the main etiological agent of sugarcane mosaic disease,which affects sugarcane and other grass *** the extensive characterization of quantitative trait loci controlling resistance to SCMV in maize,the genetic basis of this trait in sugarcane is largely ***,a genome-wide association study was performed and machine learning coupled with feature selection was used for genomic prediction of resistance to SCMV in a diverse sugarcane *** single-nucleotide polymorphisms(SNPs)explained up to 29.9%of the observed phenotypic variance and a 73-SNP set predicted resistance with high accuracy,precision,recall,and F1 scores(the harmonic mean of precision and recall).Both marker sets were validated in additional sugarcane genotypes,in which the SNPs explained up to 23.6%of the phenotypic variation and predicted resistance with a maximum accuracy of 69.1%.Synteny analyses suggested that the gene responsible for the majority of SCMV resistance in maize is absent in sugarcane,explaining why this major resistance source has not been identified in this ***,using sugarcane RNA-Seq data,markers associated with resistance to SCMV were annotated,and a gene coexpression network was constructed to identify the predicted biological processes involved in *** network allowed the identification of candidate resistance genes and confirmed the involvement of stress responses,photosynthesis,and the regulation of transcription and translation in resistance to *** results provide a practical marker-assisted breeding approach for sugarcane and identify target genes for future studies of SCMV resistance.

Background: Extracranial Carotid Artery Aneurysm is considered a therapeutic and diagnostic challenge. Foodborne outbreaks in Brazil associated with fruits and vegetables:2008 through 2014

Objectives:Foodborne disease outbreaks linked to fruits and vegetables have been increasing in occurrence worldwide;therefore,the aim of this study was to identify the reported foodborne outbreaks associated with fruit and vegetable consumption in Brazil from 2008 to *** And Limitations:Thirty produce related outbreaks resulted in 2926 illnesses,347 hospitalizations,and no *** bacterial pathogens were identified as etiological *** these,Salmonella was the most frequent(30 per cent of outbreaks)followed by Staphylococcus aureus(23.3 per cent),Escherichia coli(10 per cent),Bacillus cereus(6.6 per cent),and thermotolerant coliforms(3.3 per cent),whereas etiological agents could not be determined for 26.6 per cent of *** most common food vehicles implicated in outbreaks were generically named as fruits and vegetables(46.6 per cent of outbreaks).The term salad was used generically and specifically like salads(two outbreaks),raw/cooked salads(four outbreaks),vegetable salad,tropical salad,Caesar salad,and raw salad of cabbage and *** one outbreak was related exclusively to fruit(fruit pulp),whereas other outbreaks were related to cooked carrot,lettuce,cucumber,watermelon/cabbage,and chard/*** sources and issues related to the future control of produce-related foodborne disease outbreaks are discussed.

Feasibility to Convert the NuScale SMR from UO₂ to a Mixed (U, Th)O₂ Core: A Parametric Study of Fuel Element—Seed-Blanket Concept

Delays in the construction of nuclear reactors due to licensing issues have been a problem across the world, affecting projects in Finland, France, and the United States. Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) emerge as a transition between Generations iii+ and iV in order to make nuclear energy more competitive with other energy sources, including renewables. in this study, the SMR NuScale, one of the most promising projects today, is investigated for its conversion into a U-233-producing reactor through the Radkowsky seed-blanket fuel element concept, applied in the Shippingport reactor, in a parametric study. initially, a validation of the reference reactor (NuScale) was carried out with data from technical documents and papers, thus demonstrating the agreement of the computational model carried out with the SERPENT code. Then, a parametric study is carried out to define the area of the seed and blanket region, proportions of enrichment and pitch length. Finally, a comparison is made between the production of U-233, TRU reduction, burn-up extension and neutronic and thermohydraulic safety parameters. This study demonstrates an improvement in the conversion factor and a considerable reduction in the production of TRU, in addition to the production of U-233 with a low proportion of other uranium isotopes that can lead to the beginning of the thorium cycle with already consolidated technologies.

The Conservation Units (CU) were created to protect natural environments from growing degradation and to impede the expansion of urbanization and agricultural crops. The Serra da Canastra National Park, established to protect the headwaters of the S?o Francisco River and other places of scenic and ecological interest, is extensively visited due to its many tourist attractions, such as waterfalls, fauna and flora. An analysis of the park’s geography is needed to assess the risk involved in and its suitability for public use due to its territorial extension and environmental complexities. Thus, this study aimed to investigate the background of issues of interest to CU management. Additionally, we used high-resolution RapidEye imagery, altimetry and database of park infrastructure to build geospatial database and estimate classes of suitability for and risk in public use through GiS tools. The resulting cartographic data can support the planning of policies concerning the landscape and park’s territorial management.

infrared thermography (iRT) has emerged for evaluation of animal welfare. To test the hypothesis that cattle subjected to vaquejada increased temperature in the eye (CLO) and tail due to physical effort, a research was developed that aimed to measure maximum surface temperature in the CLO and base of tail using iRT. Eighty Nellore cattle were used, which were subjected to physical effort in three periods (morning, afternoon and night). iRT was performed at CLO and base of tail, in rest pen/corral (control) and during the vaquejada (pre- and post-run). Tails’ analysis was divided in 3 points (E1, E2 and E3). ANOVA and Tukey’s test (p is. Temperatures were higher in morning and afternoon and different from those at night on control (p ing vaquejada with one run, CLO was higher in pre-run, followed by a slight reduction in post-run (p ing temperatures variations at tail, higher temperatures were observed in the morning, followed by the evening and night (p ithout differences within the pre- and post-run periods. Temperatures at tail’s points were higher in morning period in cattle with two runs (p inally, it was concluded that there were no increases in CLO or at tail’s points after vaquejada races. The iRT method was efficient in determining surface temperatures in CLO and tail points in cattle under the same conditions and may be a good noninvasive method for clinical and welfare assessments.
