Practice Patterns and Adequacy of Maintenance Hemodialysis in Rio Grande, RS, Brazil

Introduction: Hemodialysis is the most common end-stage renal disease treatment worldwide. Several factors may influence treatment outcomes. Adequacy (dose) of hemodialysis remains controversial;however, investigations on the effectiveness rate (Kt/V ≥ 1.2), which could reflect morbimortality, are preferred. Objective: This study aimed to describe the level of adequacy of hemodialysis among patients undergoing treatment in the city of Rio Grande (RS), Brazil. Method: In this prospective cohort study, 156 patients undergoing hemodialysis treatment between July 2016 and June 2017 in the two hemodialysis centers in the city of Rio Grande (RS), Brazil, were included. Frequency distribution as per Kt/V stratification was analyzed. Chi-square test was used to compare proportions. Results: Adequate hemodialysis (Kt/V ≥ 1.2) was observed in 105 patients (67%), 88% were from the municipality (mean age, 59 years), and 43% had visited the hospital before knowing about their kidney disease. Most of them were referred to a nephrologist (70%). Of the 156 patients, 114 patients (73%) remained in dialysis treatment, 10 (6%) underwent transplantation, 9 (6%) were transferred, and 23 (15%) died at the end of 12 months. Conclusion: Primary care should be expanded for early diagnosis of chronic kidney disease, improved venous access preparation, and increased number of patients with hemodialysis adequacy. Hemodialysis adequacy in patients undergoing treatment in the city of Rio Grande (RS), Brazil, needs to be improved.

Model of Verbal Communication with Blind Patient:Application in Nursing Appointment

It was aimed at validating the applicability of the Model of Verbal Communication with blind people in nursing appointment in the stages of the nursing process. A methodology of quantitative study was used with 30 nurses and 30 blind people who participated in the study, divided in control and experimental groups. 30 nursing appointments took place;they were recorded and analyzed by three judges. The experimental group had excellent performance in following protocol (95.6%);taking notes informing the reason for silence (93.4%);and avoiding long silence (100%). In interventions, it presented excellence in all the items, in the evaluation stage, there were no bad/terrible actions. In none of the actions the control group presented better performance than the experimental one. The use of the Model is recommended in nursing appointment with blind patient.

Objective:To analyze the effect of cadmium(Cd)on soybean seedlings growth and the relationship with the distribution and concentration of ***:The ions concentrations were determined by *** extraction efficiency and digestion time were ***,oxidative stress parameters were determined and related with metal ***:The accumulated amount of dry matter in roots and leaves was lower in the Cd-treated *** analysis showed that the exposure to Cd affected the accumulated amount of dry matter as well as the content of mineral elements in the analysis *** Cd treated plants,electrical conductivity increased respect to the controls,indicating that ionic permeability became altered.A strong inhibition of the chlorophylls(chl)biosynthesis in the Cd-treated group was also demonstrated by a decrease of chla and chlb *** result was related with the observed significant decrease in the Mg uptake at the roots and leaves ***:The stress caused by Cd exposure,evidenced by significantly high hydrogen peroxide levels in roots and leaves after 24 h and the content of specific macro-microelements is a factor that affects the accumulation of dry matter,electrical conductivity and chlorophylls concentration.

The Learning of Adolescent Students about the Disabled Person Using Board Game

This study aims at verifying the learning of adolescent students about the disabled person using educational technology in the board game mode and using a semi-experimental non-randomized study of pre and post with unintentional probability sample. Validated and standardized instruments were used. Data were processed by SPSS 20.0 and organized in tables. For comparison of proportions, the McNemar test was used. Females predominated (56%), aged between 13 and 14 years old (63.3%) from private schools (58.7%). It was evidenced a significance for learning about visual and hearing impairment on issues of low complexity (p < 0.0001), visual impairment in the issue of medium complexity (p < 0.0001) and hearing loss in high complexity (p < 0.0001). It should be practiced using the board game to school awareness about the theme, because it provides reflection on the theme, contributes to learning and encourages inclusion.

Physical Accessibility for Disabled People: Analysis of Toilet Facilities in Primary Health Care Units

Background: Accessibility enables the effective participation of disabled persons in public and private areas and the use of urban equipment and street furniture. Objective: This study aimed to analyze the physical accessibility of toilet facilities in urban and rural primary health care units. Methods: It was a quantitative descriptive study conducted in 157 Primary Health Care Units of 16 municipalities in the Baturité Massif region, Ceará, Brazil. The study took place from August 2014 to May 2015, with a checklist type form, designed from the Technical Standard 9050 of the Brazilian National Standards Organization, specifying the ideal access conditions established by law to allow mobility of persons with physical disabilities. Data were processed through the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences software and organized into tables. Results: Toilets designed for physically disabled people were accessible as the location and signs (59.9%), identified with symbols for males and females (57.3%);however, the doorway width was smaller than needed to accommodate a wheelchair (77.7%). Inside the bathroom, only the forward approach was possible (59.9%). Grab bars positioned on the side and rear walls were inadequate or nonexistent (67.6%);toilet seats (91.1%) and toilet paper dispensers (96.2%) were mostly in inaccessible heights;flush controls in appropriate height (59.2%) and activated by light pressure (58%). Sinks without pedestal (51%), but higher than recommended (80.3%) and without single handle faucets (95.6%). It was verified that the toilets of basic health units located in urban areas had better accessibility conditions compared to those in rural areas. Conclusion: Results showed that the analyzed units presented physical inaccessibility in some toilet facilities, making it difficult or even impossible the accessibility for the disabled. Socio-Economic Profile of People with Disabilities: A Health Impact

The objective was to compare the socioeconomic profile and the repercussions for effects on the health of people with physical, hearing and visual of the main Ceará state associations in Brazil. Quantitative study carried out from March to August 2012 through a structured questionnaire with 120 subjects. Variables were: gender, age, education, family income and marital status. Studies are necessary to examine the effects of sociodemographic characteristics on health. The results indicate that the three deficiencies have different distributions in all age groups (p = 0.001), and auditory and visual obtained the highest percentage in the age group of 18 - 29 years (67.5% and 40%, respectively), while motor in the range of 30 - 49 (60%), if no association between level of education and disability was found (p = 0.553). Family income showed a statistically significant difference between disability (p = 0.044), with lower income in hearing loss (45%) and higher in the visual (42.5%). Studies have demonstrated that people with disabilities are not homogeneous. It is important to examine socioeconomic indicators, and individual needs and characteristics to plan effective action.

Educational Video Increases Maternal Self-Efficacy for Prevention of Diarrhoea in Young Children:A Randomised Clinical Trial

The aim of this study was to compare the scores of maternal self-efficacy for child diarrhoea prevention, between intervention and control groups, according to sanitary, social and demographic characteristics. A randomised clinical trial was carried out on 163 mothers of children under 5 years old. Data collection was conducted during two months, at two different moments (M0 and M1);at the moment M0 only the intervention group watched the educational video to promote self-efficacy for child diarrhoea prevention;at M1 (two months later) the scale was applied to both groups. In the intervention group, greater mean self-efficacy scores were obtained compared with the control group. The following variables showed statistically significant associations (p < 0.05) with maternal self-efficacy: age 35 or over;high school education;working outside the home;residence with 4 to 5 people;house not of brick or mortar;public refuse collection;piped water supply;consumption of mineral water;and public sewerage network. After use of the video “Diarrhoea: you can prevent it”, the maternal self-efficacy increased, proving that this strategy is able to assist the nursing staff in educational practices.

Self-Care Practice of Patients with Mechanical Heart Valve Prosthesis Accompanied in Nursing Consultation

The objective was to evaluate the practice of self-care of patients with mechanical heart valve prosthesis. A descriptive, cross-sectional study developed in two outpatient valvopathies of teaching hospitals of Fortaleza/CE, from October 2013 to January 2014. The sample consisted of 127 patients with mechanical heart valve prosthesis. It was held an interview using instrument based on the Theory of Orem’s Self-Care and Brazilian Guidelines for Valvular Heart Diseases. The data were presented in tables and charts. Results: Universal self-care practices of larger adhesion: body hygiene (97.6% washed-haired, daily-bath 92.1%);oral hygiene (brushing teeth before sleeping, 87.4%);fluid intake (drinking-water 95.2%);food intake (salt intake ≤ 2 g/day, 92.1%, fruit and vegetable consumption 79.5%);intestinal eliminations (without blood or mucus—96%, non-parasitic 94.4%);urinary elimination (no blood nor pus-96.8%, urination 4 to 6 times a day, 96%). As self-care developmental requirements predominated: never used illegal drugs, tobacco, alcohol, or stopped at the discovery of the disease (70%). As self-care health deviation requirements we have: making use of certain medication at the right dose (95.2%);attending medical appointments (cardiologist—92.1%;nursing—84.2%);INR control (identifies signs of bleeding— 85.8%). We conclude that patients did not perform all recommended self-care practices, being necessary to establish strategies to reduce the self-care deficit.
