A Study on Planned and Applied Irrigation Modules in Irrigation Networks: A Case Study at Büyük Menderes Basin, Turkey

In this study, irrigation modules calculated in planning and actualized operational stage of the irrigation networks are examined. Irrigation module used irrigation networks is a constant discharge parameter, meeting the needs of irrigation water requirement smonthly of crops in one hectare of irrigation area and it is a constant discharge flowing continuously for a month. Extent of the overlapping between the irrigation planning module and the operation module actualized during the operational stage of the irrigation network depends on changes in the cropping patterns, differences in the effects of field irrigation methods used by farmers on the capacity of the constructed system, the increases or decreases in the water demands depending on the irrigation period, as well as the extent of sustainability according to the selected operation method. A2 irrigation area of Aydin plain irrigation network, locating in the Büyük Menderes basin, Turkey is selected as study area, with an area of 2500 ha. Irrigation planning module calculated for this network is q = 1.16 l/s/ha and it has been designed as per the supply demand operation method. For the study;actualized irrigation module in the operation stage has been compared with the planning irrigation module by using Excel software and taking parameters such as actual crop pattern and percentage distributions, actualized irrigated areas, irrigation networks and water distribution, water intake of irrigation networks which have been calculated without operation losses, as well as with 5%, 10%, and 15% operation losses. The July operation module calculated for the examined irrigation network generally conforms to the planning module, as it has received the values close to or below the value of irrigation planning modules.

A Study about Effects of River Water Quality on Fish Living in Büyük Menderes Basin, Turkey

The measurements for the quality of the water were made at eight stations of Adügüzel Dam, Yenice Regulator, Sarayköy Bridge, Feslek Regulator, Yenipazar Bridge, Aydιn Bridge, koçarlι Bridge, Söke Regulator located at the Buyuk Menderes River, Turkey. The study was conducted for the period between 2000-2013 for the months of February, April, June, August, October and December. The results received were analyzed for temperature, pH, EC, Cl-, Na, Ca2+, Mg2+, K+, , TDS, TH and SS aquaculture. The results of the analyses revealed that although the water pollution in the river showed variations throughout the year, in fact the samples obtained at various locations displayed high levels of pollutants. The “Regulation on Turkish Water Pollution Control” was made use of in classifying the parameters of the water in this study. These parameters were compared with the WHO Guidelines and TS-266. Among the 8 Dams that were included in the study, the best quality of water was measured in the Adügüzel Dam, which gave the lowest values;and the levels were measured to be higher in the Saraykoy Station than those of the other dams. There was a severe drought in Menderes Basin in 2007, and therefore the highest annual values were measured for the year 2007. In those years, the levels of the irrigation water decreased as low as 4255 m3/ha. The SPSS 21 Statistical Analysis Program was made use of in analyzing the data of the study. The One-Way Anova and Tukey Multiple Comparison tests were also used for the analyses of the data as well. The p < 0.05 level was accepted as being significant in the analyses. The distribution of the data was performed by using the Box-plot Graphs. Furthermore, the effects on fish species and the pollution in Büyük Menderes River were also examined in the study.

Mapping Distribution of Precipitation, Temperature and Evaporation in Seydisuyu Basin with the Help of Distance Related Estimation Methods

In this research, distributions of precipitation, temperature and evaporation in Seydisuyu basin were analyzed with the help of inverse distance weighted (IDW) method. Because real meteorological data of the basin (precipitation, temperature and evaporation) do not have normal distribution, precipitation, temperature and evaporation distribution maps are drawn after normalization process. The number of meteorological stations, in other words the number of samples, is low, so only IDW method is used in this research. In addition to the research, reliability of the results obtained with the help of inverse distance weighting method was examined with accuracy analysis. The purpose of this study, the spatial distribution of meteorological data on a basin or areas is to demonstrate the applicability of the statistical basis.

A Study on Determining the Hydropower Potential of Çine Dam in Turkey

This study has been conducted with the purpose of determining the hydroelectric potential that can be utilized by Cine dam which will be constructed for irrigation, overflow control and for energy production purposes on the Cine stream (which is located as an important arm of Büyük Menderes River in Turkey). The study will also compare other research conducted by various organizations. In order to determine the hydroelectric energy potential, the SIMAHPP 4 (Simulate and Assess the Feasibility of Hydropower Projects) professional software has been utilized. It has been observed that the calculated hydroelectric potential conforms to energy potential calculated by other organizations such as DSI (State Hydraulic Works). Especially the turbine power, installed power, turbine design flow rate and annual energy production values in the studies have been realized with close values to the real ones. The power plant which is planned to have an average of natural streams of the past 43 years has been designed with an annual power production capacity of 210.87 GWh/year (without regulation ratio) and with installed power of 48,144 MW along with a design flow rate of 35 m3/s. As a result, since these water structures have high costs associated with them and also since they will have to be functional for many years, it will be beneficial to use various different computational methods.

The Beyşehir-Hoyran Nappes,one of the tectonostratigraphic units of the Taurides,are thought to be originated from the Izmir-Ankara Ocean(northern branch of Neotethys).In this study,Late Paleozoic rock units from the blocks of Beyşehir-Hoyran Nappes were studied in detail using foraminiferal assemblages in two different locations from the southwest of Karaman City(southern Turkey).In both places,blocks/slices and pebbles of various origins are embedded within a highly sheared matrix of Late Cretaceous Age,and the whole unit can be regarded as a sedimentary mé*** ages of the blocks from the southwest of Karaman City range from the Late Serpukhovian(Late Mississippian)to Late Capitanian(Middle Permian)with some depositional breaks(e.g.,Bashkirian,Kasimovian).Combined with the previous data from the Mersin Mélange,which also include the remnants of the Beyşehir-Hoyran Nappes,our new findings suggest that a shallowing-upward sequence,characterized by a shallow water environment with foraminifera-bearing limestones,was deposited over the Tournaisian pelagic sequence in the Beyşehir-Hoyran Nappes till the Early Moscovian(Early Middle Pennsylvanian).This shallowing-upward sequence in the Beyşehir-Hoyran Nappes could be related to the Late Paleozoic Glaciation on the Gondwana supercontinent(Glacial Ⅱ),which resulted in a sea-level drop and deposition of platform carbonates during the Viséan–Early Moscovian(Middle Mississippian to Early Middle Pennsylvanian)time *** absence of the main part of the Middle-Upper Pennsylvanian deposits(continental phase during the Middle Moscovian–Middle Gzhelian)in the Beyşehir-Hoyran Nappes can be mainly attributed to the occurrence of a mantle plume and partially to the effect of Late Paleozoic Gondwanan Glaciation(Glacial Ⅲ).Progressive uplifting by the buoyant mantle plume material has resulted in rifting at the center of the basin where the Beyşehir-Hoyran Nappes have *** rifting process led to tectonic destabiliz

BACKGROUND Idiopathic omental infarction(IOI)is challenging to diagnose due to its low incidence and vague *** differential diagnosis also poses difficulties because it can mimic many intra-abdominal organ *** hypercoagulability and thrombosis are among the causes of omental infarction,venous thromboembolism scanning is rarely performed as an etiological *** SUMMARY The medical records of the 5 cases,who had the diagnosis of IOI by computed tomography,were *** majority of the patients were male(n=4,80%)and the mean age was 31 years(range:21-38).The patients had no previous abdominal surgery or a history of any chronic *** main complaint of all patients was persistent abdominal *** infarction was detected in all patients with contrast-enhanced computed *** treatment was initially preferred in all patients,but it failed in 1 patient(20%).After discharge,all patients were referred to the hematology department for thrombophilia *** 1 patient applied for thrombophilia screening and was homozygous for methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase(A1298C mutation)and heterozygous for a factor V Leiden *** IOI should be considered in the differential diagnosis in patients presenting with progressive and/or persistent right side abdominal *** risk factors such as hypercoagulability in patients with IOI is also important in preventing future conditions related to venous thromboembolism.

Mapping of energy potential through annual crop residues in Turkey

The objective of this study was to determine the annual crop residue potential in terms of types,quantities and mapping in *** calorific values of agricultural residues were determined by calorimeter according to ASTM D 5865 Standard Test Method for Coal and Coke *** this study,the energy potential of annual crop residues was evaluated by ArcGIS^(TM) which is a geographical information system *** total amount of unused annual crop residues was approximately 15.24 Mt/*** was found that the total calorific value of the field crop residues was around 268 PJ/a for the 2012 production period in *** major crops included in the ratio of the total calorific value were maize(45.81%),wheat(21.30%),sunflower(15.10%)and cotton(18.1%).The amount of CO_(2) emitted into the atmosphere can be reduced by 30 Mt/a year through the use of agricultural residues.

Determination of biogas production potential from animal manure and GHG emission abatement in Turkey

This study was aimed to determine biogas amount and the energy value which could be made from animal manure in *** this purpose,biogas potential was calculated with the number of dairy cattle and laying hens taking into consideration,which have high availability *** has a total of about 8.9 million dairy cattle and 98 million laying *** total 92.1 million tons of manure is obtained from these *** are 89.2 million tons of cattle manure and 2.9 million tons of laying hens *** 1.6 billion m3 of biogas can be produced from the usable amount of this *** heating value of biogas produced from this manure is about 36.7 *** values can provide 1.1%of Turkey’s annual energy consumption(80.5 Mtoe).The distribution of these calculated data by province was mapped using a GIS Software’s mapping *** provinces are ranked according to the amount of biogas production,the top 10 are konya,Erzurum,İzmir,Balıkesir,Kars,Afyon,Diyarbakır,Aydın,Ankara and Ağrı.Furthermore,the greenhouse gas(GHG)emission abatement was calculated for demonstrating the environmental benefits of the biogas production from animal *** was determined that the CO2 emission abatement annually ranging between 17.2-25.3 million tons could be provided with the evaluation of biogas potential which was calculated.

Glabridin Relaxes Vascular Smooth Muscles by Activating BK_(Ca) Channels and Inhibiting Phosphodiesterase in Human Saphenous Vein

The aim of the current study was to investigate the pharmacological activity of glabridinon the isolated human saphenous vein (SV) and explore the underlying mechanisms. Samples of patients' SVs were removed during bypass surgery, and 4-mm lengths of the vessels were placedin Krebs solution at ±4℃ and hung in an isolated organ bath to assess their contraction/relaxationresponses. The contraction/relaxation responses were recorded to observe if the cyclic guanosinemonophosphate (cGMP)/protein kinase G (PKG) pathway mediates the relaxant effect of glabridinafter treatment with blockers like ODQ (a guanylate cyclase inhibitor), KT5823 (a PKG inhibitor),isobutylmethylxanthine [IBMX, a phosphodiesterase (PDE) inhibitor], and cantharidin [Cant,a myosin light-chain phosphatase (MLCP) inhibitor]. Moreover, nitric oxide (NO), cGMP, andPKG levels in SV tissues were determined by ELISA after incubation with glabridin, N(o)-nitro-L-arginine methyl ester (L-Name, a NO synthetase inhibitor), phenylephrine (PE), ODQ, IBMX,and KT5823. The results showed that glabridin relaxed the vascular smooth muscle of humanSV pretreated with PE in a dose-dependent manner, which was independent of the *** vasorelaxant effect of glabridin was only inhibited by iberiotoxin (IbTX), Cant, and *** increased cGMP and PKG levels in SV homogenates, whereas it did not alter the NOlevel. The enhancing efects of cGMP and PKG levels by glabridin were abolished by ODQ andKT5823. In conclusion, glabridin has a vasorelaxant effect, which is associated with the activationof BKc. channels and inhibition of PDE.
