Olecranon anatomy:Use of a novel proximal interlocking screw for intramedullary nailing,a cadaver study

AIM: To define the optimum safe angle of use for an eccentrically aligned proximal interlocking screw(PIS) for intramedullary nailing(IMN).METHODS: Thirty-six dry cadaver ulnas were split into two equal pieces sagitally. The following points were identified for each ulna: the deepest point of the incisura olecrani(A), the point where perpendicular lines from A and the ideal IMN entry point(D) are intersected(C) and a point at 3.5 mm(2 mm safety distance from articular surface + 1.5 mm radius of PIS) posterior from point A(B). We calculated the angle of screws inserted from point D through to point B in relation to D-C and B-C. In addition, an eccentrically aligned screw was inserted at a standard 20° through the anterior cortex of the ulna in each bone and the articular surface wasobserved macroscopically for any ***: The mean A-C distance was 9.6 mm(mean ± SD, 9.600 ± 0.763 mm), A-B distance was 3.5 mm, C-D distance was 12.500 mm(12.500 ± 1.371 mm) and the mean angle was 25.9°(25.9°± 2.0°). Lack of articular damage was confirmed macroscopically in all bones after the 20.0° eccentrically aligned screws were inserted. Intramedullary nail fixation systems have well known biological and biomechanical advantages for osteosynthesis. However, as well as these well-known advantages, IMN fixation of the ulna has some limitations. Some important limitations are related to the proximal interlocking of the ulna nail. The location of the PIS itself limits the indications for which intramedullary systems can be selected as an implant for the ulna. The new PIS design, where the PIS is aligned 20°eccentrically to the nail body, allows fixing of fractures even at the level of the olecranon without disturbing the joint. It also allows the eccentrically aligned screw to be inserted in any direction except through the proximal radio-ulnar joint. Akcay is a high flow stream supported with strong bracket and is emerging from border of Beyagac County in Denizli province. In this study, it was performed for determining some limnological traits of Akcay River in Bozdogan County in Aydin province. This study was conducted with a 12-month period between January 2010 and December 2010. The chosen pilot farm is raising fish (Oncorhynchus mykiss). The water of Akcay River is used on farm. Some limnological parameters (dissolved oxygen, temperature, pH, EC, nitrite, nitrate, orthophosphate, minerals) were investigated for determining the water quality of zone.

Background:Syrian juniper is an economically important species and in danger of *** these reasons,the best seedling production methods of the species should be determined and its plantations should be *** aim of the study is to examine the impacts of altitude and different pretreatment combinations of cold and warm stratifications,citric acid,shaking seeds in bottles with crushed glass,and different stimulating agents including Baikal EM1,Biohumus,Polystimulin A6 and K hormones(PS-A6 and PS-K)on seed germination of Syrian *** conduct the study,the cones of the Syrian junipers were collected from three different altitudes(1000,1200,and 1400 m a.s.l.)within the boundaries of Forest Management Directorate of Bozyazı,Mersin in *** seeds were subjected to three replicates per one treatment(altitude in interaction with pretreatment).There were 100 seeds per ***:Two-way ANOVA revealed significant effects of altitude,pretreatment,and their interaction on seedling emergence of Syrian *** from higher altitudes had higher germination rates in all *** highest percent emergence(85%)was recorded in the combination consisting of shaking with crushed glass,both cold and warm stratification,and successive application of stimulators PS-A6 and *** the treatments with most germinating seeds encompassed shaking in crushed glass or soaking in citric acid,both warm and cold stratifications,and application of stimulating ***:The use of seeds from higher altitudes should be considered for seedling production of Syrian juniper due to their higher germination *** altitudinal differences,specific pretreatments can rise germination potential more than twofold.

Gastroprotective activity of Nigella sativa L oil and its constituent, thymoquinone against acute alcohol-induced gastric mucosal injury in rats

AIM: To evaluate the role of reactive oxygen species in the pathogenesis of acute ethanol-induced gastric mucosal lesions and the effect of Nigella sativa L oil (NS) and its constituent thymoquinone (TQ) in an experimental ***: Male Wistar albino rats were assigned into 4groups. Control group was given physiologic saline orally (10 mL/kg body weight) as the vehicle (gavage); ethanol group was administrated 1 mL (per rat) absolute alcohol by gavage; the third and fourth groups were given NS (10 mL/kg body weight) and TQ (10 mg/kg body weight p.o) respectively 1 h prior to alcohol intake. One hour after ethanol administration, stomach tissues were excised for macroscopic examination and biochemical ***: NS and TQ could protect gastric mucosa against the injurious effect of absolute alcohol and promote ulcer healing as evidenced from the ulcer index (UI) values. NS prevented alcohol-induced increase in thiobarbituric acid-reactive substances (TBARS), an index of lipid peroxidation. NS also increased gastric glutathione content (GSH), enzymatic activities of gastric superoxide dismutase (SOD) and glutathione-S-transferase (GST). Likewise, TQ protected against the ulcerating effect of alcohol and mitigated most of the biochemical adverse effects induced by alcohol in gastric mucosa, but to a lesser extent than NS. Neither NS nor TQ affected catalase activity in gastric ***: Both NS and TQ, particularly NS can partly protect gastric mucosa from acute alcohol-induced mucosal injury, and these gastroprotective effects might be induced, at least partly by their radical scavenging activity.

Power domain non-orthogonal multiple access combined with a universal filtered multi-carrier(NOMA-UFMC)has the potential to cope with fifth generation(5G)unprecedented *** employs powerdomainmultiplexing to support several users,whereasUFMC is robust to timing and frequency ***,NOMA-UFMC waveform has a high peak-to-average power(PAPR)issue that creates a negative affect due to multicarrier modulations,rendering it is inefficient for the impending 5G mobile and wireless ***,this article seeks to presents a discrete Hartley transform(DHT)pre-coding-based NOMA enabled universal filter multicarrier(UFMC)(DHT-NOMA-UFMC)waveform design for lowering the high ***,DHT precoding also takes frequency advantage variations in the multipath wireless channel to get significant bit error rate(BER)*** the recommended arrangement,the throughput of the systemis improved by multiplexing the users in the power domain and permitting the users with good and bad channel conditions to concurrently access the apportioned *** simulation outcomes divulge that the projected algorithm accomplished a gain of 5.8 dB as related to the conventional ***,it is established that the proposed DHT-NOMA-UFMC outperforms the existing NOMA-UFMC *** key benefit of the proposed method over the other waveforms proposed for 5G is content gain due to the power domain multiplexing at the transmitting ***,a huge count of mobile devices could be supported under specific ***-UFMC can be regarded as the most effective applications for 5G Mobile andWireless ***,the main drawback of the proposed method is that the Fourier peak and phase signal is not easily estimated.

Mapping Distribution of Precipitation, Temperature and Evaporation in Seydisuyu Basin with the Help of Distance Related Estimation Methods

In this research, distributions of precipitation, temperature and evaporation in Seydisuyu basin were analyzed with the help of inverse distance weighted (IDW) method. Because real meteorological data of the basin (precipitation, temperature and evaporation) do not have normal distribution, precipitation, temperature and evaporation distribution maps are drawn after normalization process. The number of meteorological stations, in other words the number of samples, is low, so only IDW method is used in this research. In addition to the research, reliability of the results obtained with the help of inverse distance weighting method was examined with accuracy analysis. The purpose of this study, the spatial distribution of meteorological data on a basin or areas is to demonstrate the applicability of the statistical basis.

Effect of autotransfusion system on tumor recurrence and survival in hepatocellular carcinoma patients

AIM:To investigate the therapeutic efficacy and safety of continuous autotransfusion system(CATS) during liver transplantation of hepatocellular carcinoma ***:Eighty-three hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC) patients who underwent liver transplantation with intraoperative CATS(n = 24,CATS group) and without(n = 59,non-CATS group) between April 2006 and November 2011 at the Liver Transplant Institute of Inonu University were analyzed *** HCC recurrence was monitored by measuring alpha-fetoprotein(AFP) levels at 3-mo intervals and performing imaging analysis by thoracoabdominal multidetector computed tomography at 6-month ***-group differences in recurrence and correlations between demographic,clinical,and pathological data were assessed by ANOVA and χ 2 *** and disease-free survivals were calculated by the univariate Kaplan-Meier ***:Of the 83 liver transplanted HCC patients,89.2% were male and the overall mean age was 51.3 ± 8.9 years(range:18-69 years).The CATS and nonCATS groups showed no statistically significant differences in age,sex ratio,body mass index,underlying disease,donor type,graft-to-recipient weight ratio,Child-Pugh and Model for End-Stage Liver Disease scores,number of tumors,tumor size,AFP level,Milan and University of California San Francisco selection criteria,tumor differentiation,macrovascular invasion,median hospital stay,recurrence rate,recurrence site,or mortality *** mean follow-up time of the nonCATS group was 17.9 ± 12.8 mo,during which systemic metastasis and/or locoregional recurrence developed in 25.4% of the *** mean follow-up time for the CATS group was 25.8 ± 15.1 mo,during which systemic metastasis and/or locoregional recurrence was detected in 29.2% of the *** was no significant difference between the CATS and non-CATS groups in recurrence rate or ***,no significant differences existed between the groups in overall or disease-f

In this study,the electronic transition properties and structural analysis of the metal complexes(Ni(Ⅱ),Co(Ⅱ),Cu(Ⅱ)and Mn(Ⅱ))of three different polymer ligands were performed by using XRF and X-ray diffraction(XRD)techniques,*** structural analysis of the polymers and their complexes were performed by XRD technique and some of the polymers were found to be in the face-centred cubic(fcc)*** addition,the values of the present K X-ray intensity ratios are significantly greater than the values reported in literature.

Co-movement and Forecasting Analysis of Major Real Estate Markets by Wavelet Coherence and Multiple Wavelet Coherence

Wavelet coherence of time series provides valuable information about dynamic correlation and its impact on time scales. Here, the authors analyze the wavelet coherence of major real estate markets data, and take the USA, Hong Kong of China, Canada, Japan, and Developed Europe real estate market prices as time series. The wavelet coherence results show relationships among these markets, the correlations between the two and three markets(by multiple wavelet coherence) and how these relationships vary in the time-frequency space. These relationships allow the authors to build VARMA models of real estate data which produce forecasts with small errors.
