A Study on the Causes of Sediment Accumulation in the Drainage Systems

Accumulation of sediment and silt in the drainage canals is undesirable, yet inevitable occurrence in the course of the use and operation of any drainage canal network. In this study, D-25 drainage canal group, taking place in the Nazilli irrigation system with an area of 1165 ha is the only system where all planned activities have been completed. It has been determined that the drainage system was constructed according to original drainage project. The depth of accumulated sediment in the drainage canals in the research area was determined from the difference between the measured elevation and the elevation given in the design projects. The reasons for siltation in the D-25 drainage canal group have been studied by looking at the results of the elevation measurements made in 2010-2012. The measurements made in D-25 drainage canal group showed that there were significant differences between the actual structure (bridge, culvert, and conduit) bottom elevations and the elevations given in the design projects. In addition, the length of some canals would not coincide with the design project either. 83.3% (93.3% in length) of the canals had differences in structure bottom elevations. Of the total 55 structures 45 (81.8%) had a 0.10 m or more difference in bottom elevation from the project. Of the erroneous structures 73.3% had an average of 0.40 m, and 26.7% had an average of -0.25 m difference in bottom elevations from the design projects.

The main cause of erectile dysfunction （ED） is organic in nature, with vascular etiologies being the most common risk factors. Although there have been sufficient data on the relationship between ED and several well-recognized risk factors, including aging, coronary artery disease, atherosclerosis, diabetes mellitus, dyslipidemia, high blood pressure, and pelvic surgeries, little attention has been paid by the urologists to the role of lifestyle factors in ED. However, accumulating data from basic science and clinical studies have determined a link between the occurrence of ED and a number of lifestyle factors, such as smoking, obesity, alcohol consumption, and lack of physical activity. The application of findings from animal and human studies to the clinical practice regarding the modification of lifestyle factors could help improving ED as well as reducing the risks of developing cardiovascular diseases. This communication addresses the impact of lifestyle factors on erectile function and the potential benefits of modifying these factors to improve ED in respect to the current evidence.

One of the most important responsibilities of a supply chain manager is to decide “how much” (or “many”) of inventory items to order and how to transport them. This paper presents four mixed-integer linear programming models to help supply chain managers make these decisions for multiple products subject to multiple constraints when suppliers offer quantity discounts and shippers offer freight discounts. Each model deals with one of the possible combinations of all-units, incremental quantity discounts, all-weight and incremental freight discounts. The models are based on a piecewise linear approximation of the number of orders function. They allow any number of linear constraints and determine if independent or common (fixed) cycle ordering has a lower total cost. Results of computational experiments on an example problem are also presented.

Objective: This paper examines obesity prevalence, physical activity and health responsibility in Elazig. Material and Method: The study was conducted on 2905 men (20 - 69) and 2131 women (20 - 69), with an average of (40.93 ± 9.14) chosen randomly. Health-Promoting Lifestyle Profile was obtained via Healthy Lifestyle Behaviors Scale by Walker & Pender (1987). In this paper, three sub-evaluation dimensions of HPLP-II, health responsibility, exercise and nutritional behavior were used. Body compositions were obtained with bioelectrical impedance and Waist Circumference (WC) Central obesity by measuring waist circumference. Statistical analyses were assessed in SPSS 22.0. With Chi square, ANOVA, linear and logistic regression analyses, significance levels were p Result: Obesity prevalence was 38.8%, 37.9% and 38.4% and rate of WC abdominal prevalence was 38.2%, 29.3% and 33.0% in men, women and general population respectively. Obesity prevalence was more in men (p Conclusion: Obesity prevalence and abdominal obesity were critical health issues among adults. Individuals couldn’t develop conscious attitudes towards physical activity, nutrition and health responsibility and overcome obesity. Social strategies should be developed to reduce obesity risk factors.

AIM: To define the optimum safe angle of use for an eccentrically aligned proximal interlocking screw(PIS) for intramedullary nailing(IMN).METHODS: Thirty-six dry cadaver ulnas were split into two equal pieces sagitally. The following points were identified for each ulna: the deepest point of the incisura olecrani(A), the point where perpendicular lines from A and the ideal IMN entry point(D) are intersected(C) and a point at 3.5 mm(2 mm safety distance from articular surface + 1.5 mm radius of PIS) posterior from point A(B). We calculated the angle of screws inserted from point D through to point B in relation to D-C and B-C. In addition, an eccentrically aligned screw was inserted at a standard 20° through the anterior cortex of the ulna in each bone and the articular surface wasobserved macroscopically for any ***: The mean A-C distance was 9.6 mm(mean ± SD, 9.600 ± 0.763 mm), A-B distance was 3.5 mm, C-D distance was 12.500 mm(12.500 ± 1.371 mm) and the mean angle was 25.9°(25.9°± 2.0°). Lack of articular damage was confirmed macroscopically in all bones after the 20.0° eccentrically aligned screws were inserted. Intramedullary nail fixation systems have well known biological and biomechanical advantages for osteosynthesis. However, as well as these well-known advantages, IMN fixation of the ulna has some limitations. Some important limitations are related to the proximal interlocking of the ulna nail. The location of the PIS itself limits the indications for which intramedullary systems can be selected as an implant for the ulna. The new PIS design, where the PIS is aligned 20°eccentrically to the nail body, allows fixing of fractures even at the level of the olecranon without disturbing the joint. It also allows the eccentrically aligned screw to be inserted in any direction except through the proximal radio-ulnar joint. Akcay is a high flow stream supported with strong bracket and is emerging from border of Beyagac County in Denizli province. In this study, it was performed for determining some limnological traits of Akcay River in Bozdogan County in Aydin province. This study was conducted with a 12-month period between January 2010 and December 2010. The chosen pilot farm is raising fish (Oncorhynchus mykiss). The water of Akcay River is used on farm. Some limnological parameters (dissolved oxygen, temperature, pH, EC, nitrite, nitrate, orthophosphate, minerals) were investigated for determining the water quality of zone.

Gastroprotective activity of Nigella sativa L oil and its constituent, thymoquinone against acute alcohol-induced gastric mucosal injury in rats

AIM: To evaluate the role of reactive oxygen species in the pathogenesis of acute ethanol-induced gastric mucosal lesions and the effect of Nigella sativa L oil (NS) and its constituent thymoquinone (TQ) in an experimental ***: Male Wistar albino rats were assigned into 4groups. Control group was given physiologic saline orally (10 mL/kg body weight) as the vehicle (gavage); ethanol group was administrated 1 mL (per rat) absolute alcohol by gavage; the third and fourth groups were given NS (10 mL/kg body weight) and TQ (10 mg/kg body weight p.o) respectively 1 h prior to alcohol intake. One hour after ethanol administration, stomach tissues were excised for macroscopic examination and biochemical ***: NS and TQ could protect gastric mucosa against the injurious effect of absolute alcohol and promote ulcer healing as evidenced from the ulcer index (UI) values. NS prevented alcohol-induced increase in thiobarbituric acid-reactive substances (TBARS), an index of lipid peroxidation. NS also increased gastric glutathione content (GSH), enzymatic activities of gastric superoxide dismutase (SOD) and glutathione-S-transferase (GST). Likewise, TQ protected against the ulcerating effect of alcohol and mitigated most of the biochemical adverse effects induced by alcohol in gastric mucosa, but to a lesser extent than NS. Neither NS nor TQ affected catalase activity in gastric ***: Both NS and TQ, particularly NS can partly protect gastric mucosa from acute alcohol-induced mucosal injury, and these gastroprotective effects might be induced, at least partly by their radical scavenging activity.
