Seroprevalence of hepatitis E in adults in Brazil:a systematic review and metaanalysis

Background:Hepatitis E virus(HEV)is a member of the Hepeviridae family;it has four main genotypes and one *** genotypes 1 and 2 cause epidemic hepatitis and are transmitted via water and the fecal-oral route,genotypes 3 and 4 are zoonotic In the various seroprevalence studies of hepatitis E in Brazil,the numbers reported vary widely and are difficult to *** aim of this study was to analyze existing seroprevalence studies of hepatitis E in adults in *** text:We searched the PubMed,Latin American and caribbean Health Sciences and Embase databases for studies published from inception to May 12,2018 concerning infection by HEV in Brazil without time period or language *** included studies that presented data concerning hepatitis E seroprevalence in adults in Brazil,had a sample size>50 patients and whose method used for the detection of anti-HEV was standardized and *** also evaluated the quality of the articles using a list of criteria that totalized 9 *** the 20 studies ultimately analyzed,10(50%)were from the southeast region of Brazil,3(15%)were from the central-west region,3(15%)were from the northern region,2(10%)were from the northeast region and 2(10%)were from the southern *** the quality evaluation of the studies,the mean score was 5.6(range:4-8).The estimated overall seroprevalence of HEV infection in the adult population was 6.0%(95%cI:5.0-7.0);in subgroup analyses,we observed that the prevalence of anti-HEV antibodies in blood donors was 7.0%(95%cI:5.0-8.0),whereas in the general population,it was 3.0%(95%cI:2.0-4.0).conclusions:The results of this systematic review indicate that there should be national investment in the prevention of hepatitis E virus infection in Brazil,including the implementation of improvements in basic sanitation and guidance regarding the appropriate handling of animal waste and the optimal cooking of vegetables,meat and their derivatives.

Nonlinear analysis of r.c. framed buildings retrofitted with elastomeric and friction bearings under near-fault earthquakes

Reinforced concrete （r.c.） framed buildings designed in compliance with inadequate seismic classifi- cations and code provisions present in many cases a high vulnerability and need to be retrofitted. To this end, the insertion of a base isolation system allows a considerable reduction of the seismic loads transmitted to the super- structure. However, strong near-fault ground motions, which are characterised by long-duration horizontal pulses, may amplify the inelastic response of the superstructure and induce a failure of the isolation system. The above considerations point out the importance of checking the effectiveness of different isolation systems for retrofitting a r.c. framed structure. For this purpose, a numerical inves- tigation is carried out with reference to a six-storey r.c. framed building, which, primarily designed （as to be a fixed-base one） in compliance with the previous Italian code （DM96） for a medium-risk seismic zone, has to be retrofitted by insertion of an isolation system at the base for attaining performance levels imposed by the current Italian code （NTc08） in a high-risk seismic zone. Besides the （fixed-base） original structure, three cases of base isolation are studied： elastomeric bearings acting alone （e.g. HDLRBs）; in-parallel combination of elastomeric and friction bearings （e.g. high-damping-laminated-rubber beatings, HDLRBs and steel-PTFE sliding bearings, SBs）; friction bearings acting alone （e.g. friction pendulum bearings, FPBs）. The nonlinear analysis of the fixed-base and base-isolated structures subjected to horizontal com- ponents of near-fault ground motions is performed for checking plastic conditions at the potential critical （end） sections of the girders and columns as well as critical conditions of the isolation systems. Effects of near-fault ground motions on the nonlinear behaviour of reinforced concrete framed buildings

The design provisions of current seismic codes are generally not very accurate for assessing effects of near-fault ground motions on reinforced concrete （r.c.） spatial frames, because only far-fault ground motions are considered in the seismic codes. Strong near-fault earth- quakes are characterized by long-duration （horizontal） pulses and high values of the ratio ~PGA of the peak value of the vertical acceleration, PGAv, to the analogous value of the horizontal acceleration, PGAH, which can become critical for girders and columns. In this work, six- and twelve-storey r.c. spatial frames are designed according to the provisions of the Italian seismic code, considering the horizontal seismic loads acting （besides the gravity loads） alone or in combination with the vertical ones. The non- linear seismic analysis of the test structures is performed using a step-by-step procedure based on a two-parameter implicit integration scheme and an initial stress-like itera- tive procedure. A lumped plasticity model based on the Haar-K^n~m principle is adopted to model the inelastic behaviour of the frame members. For the numerical investigation, five near-fault ground motions with high values of the acceleration ratio c^p6A are considered. Moreover, following recent seismological studies, which allow the extraction of the largest （horizontal） pulse from a near-fault ground motion, five pulse-type （horizontal） ground motions are selected by comparing the original ground motion with the residual motion after the pulse has been extracted. The results of the nonlinear dynamic analysis carried out on the test structures highlighted thathorizontal and vertical components of near-fault ground motions may require additional consideration in the seis- mic codes.

In large fusion experiments, such as tokamak devices, there is a common trendfor slow control systems. Because of complexity of the plants, the so-called 'Standard Model' (SM)in slow control has been adopted on several tokamak machines. This model is based on a three-levelhierarchical control: 1) High-Level control (HLc) with a supervisory function; 2) Medium-Levelcontrol (MLc) to interface and concentrate I/O field equipments; 3) Low-Level control (LLc) withhard real-time I/O function, often managed by PLcs. FTU control system designed with SM concepts hasunderwent several stages of developments in its fifteen years duration of runs. The latestevolution was inevitable, due to the obsolescence of the MLc cPUs, based on VME-MOTOROLA 68030 withOS9 operating system. A large amount of c code was developed for that platform to route the dataflow from LLc, which is constituted by 24 Westinghouse Numalogic Pc-700 PLcs with about 8000field-points, to HLc, based on a commercial Object-Oriented Real-Time database on Alpha/compaqTru64platform. Therefore, we have to look for cost-effective solutions and finally a compactPcI—Intelx86 platform with Linux operating system was chosen. A software porting has been done, taking intoaccount the differences between OS9 and Linux operating system in terms of Inter/Network Processescommunications and I/O multi-ports serial driver. This paper describes the hardware/softwarearchitecture of the new MLc system, emphasizing the reliability and the low costs of the open sourcesolutions. Moreover, a huge amount of software packages available in open source environment willassure a less painful maintenance, and will open the way to further improvements of the systemitself.

Invasive alien pest insect species represent a major threat for agriculture and biodiversity. Because chemical treatments employed to contrast such pests elicit serious environmental and human health problems, a great effort is currently directed to develop long term and environmentally friendly biological control strategies. However, the successful application of some promising techniques, such as the Sterile Insect Technique （SIT）, requires a deep knowledge of the pest basic biology. Here, we argue that understanding pest sexual biology using a social network approach can significantly improve the performance of con- trol strategies. For example, SIT may benefit from understanding how individuals interact and how males accede to reproduction, in order to target the most reproductively active and polygamic males. In this paper we studied the socio-sexual networks of the Asian red palm weevil （RPW） Rhynchophorusferrugineus, a worldwide invader which is causing heavy economic impacts on several palm species. We found that the RPW has a highly promiscuous mating system, characterized by forced interruptions of pair copulations by additional males. The social network is highly non-random nor regular： few males almost monopolize repro- duction, behaving as key-players in the network of matings. Additionally, males have a stable pattern of sexual behaviour over time. We use RPW social network as a case study to direct the development of management techniques such as SIT strategy [current Zoology 61 （1）： 85-97, 2015].

Acute-on-chronic liver failure(AcLF)is a syndrome that occurs in patients with chronic liver disease and is characterized by acute decompensation,organ failure and high short-term *** due to the lack of universal diagnostic criteria,the actual AcLF prevalence remains unclear;nevertheless,it is expected to be a highly prevalent condition *** transplantation is an effective protective measure for selected AcLF *** liver transplantation,diagnosing and treating precipitant events and providing supportive treatment for organ failures are currently the cornerstone of AcLF *** new clinical specific therapies have been researched,more studies are necessary to assess safety and ***,future AcLF management strategies must consider measures to improve access to liver transplantation because the time window for this life-saving therapy is frequently ***,an urgent and global discussion about allocation and prioritization for transplantation in critically ill AcLF patients is needed because there is evidence suggesting that the current model may not portray their waitlist *** addition,while donor organ quality is meant to be a prognostic factor in the AcLF setting,recent evidence suggests that machine perfusion of the liver may be a safe tool to improve the donor organ pool and expedite liver transplantation in this scenario.

Increasing analyzable steel thickness for thin layer activation experiments

The thin layer activation technique(TLA)is very effective in wear analysis for tribological systems where disassembly is costly or *** its development in the 1970s,TLA has been applied through direct irradiation of solid targets using ionizing particle beams to obtain an activation with a specific *** profile is then used to measure wear in a variety of *** experiments rely heavily on how deep the normalized activation *** of 30μm to 50μm are obtained for constant activation by the standard method,which for many experiments is ***,many others would benefit greatly from a 300μm constant activation layer,such as high-performance engines,softer alloys(brakes),and oil transport *** this aim was the goal of this ***,we needed to find an adequate irradiation line for the TLA ***,another technique/system was developed(the Attenuation Wheel),which would bring the depth of constant activation from 50μm to 300μm.

Autism spectrum disorder and personality disorders: comorbidity and differential diagnosis

BAcKGROUND Differential diagnosis,comorbidities and overlaps with other psychiatric disorders are common among adults with autism spectrum disorder(ASD),but clinical assessments often omit screening for personality disorders(PD),which are especially common in individuals with high-functioning ASD where there is less need for *** To summarize the research findings on PD in adults with ASD and without intellectual disability,focusing on comorbidity and differential *** PubMed searches were performed using the key words“Asperger’s Syndrome”,“Autism”,“Personality”,“Personality disorder”and“comorbidity”in order to identify relevant articles published in *** literature was identified through searching Google *** literature reviews and reference sections of selected papers were also examined for additional potential *** search was restricted to studies published up to April *** review is based on the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses *** The search found 22 studies carried out on ASD adults without intellectual disability that met the inclusion criteria:16 evaluated personality profiles or PD in ASD(comorbidity),five compared ASD and PD(differential diagnosis)and one performed both *** were significant differences in the methodological cluster A and cluster c PD are the most frequent co-occurring PD,but overlapping features should be *** on differential diagnosis were only found with cluster A and cluster B *** ASD in high-functioning adults is associated with a distinct personality profile even if variability *** studies are needed to explore the complex relationship between ASD and PD.

Randomized controlled trial comparing open anterograde anatomic radical retropubic prostatectomy with retrograde technique

Objective:Radical prostatectomy is the recommended treatment for localized prostate cancer;however,it is an invasive procedure that can leave serious ***-assisted radical prostatectomy was introduced with the aim of reducing postoperative morbidity and facilitating rapid recovery compared to the traditional Walsh’s open radical retropubic ***,a protocol was developed to perform an open prostatectomy comparable to that performed by robotics,but without involving novel ***:A total of 220 patients diagnosed with localized prostate cancer underwent radical *** were divided into two groups:anterograde technique(115 patients)and the retrograde method(105 patients).The study outcomes were observed 3 months after ***:No differences were found in terms of surgical time,hospital stay,and suction ***,reduced bleeding was observed in the anterograde technique(p=0.0003),with rapid anastomosis duration(p=0.005).Among the patients,60.9% undergoing the anterograde technique were continent 3 months after surgery compared to 42.9%treated by the retrograde method(p=0.007).Additionally,fewer complications in terms of the number(p=0.007)and severity(p=0.0006)were observed in the anterograde ***:The anterograde method displayed increased efficiency in reducing complications,compared to the retrograde technique.
