Solar-assisted photocatalytic water splitting using defective UiO-66 solids from modulated synthesis

metal-organic frameworks(mOFs)are attracting increasing interests as photocatalysts for solar-driven hydrogen production from *** paper reports on a comparative study of using either acetic acid(AA)or trifluoroacetic acid(TFA)as the representative UiO-66 organic modulators for synthesizing visible light responsive UiO-66(Zr)-X(X:NH_(2) or NO_(2))photocatalysts for water *** results show that photocatalytic hydrogen generation from a water/methanol mixture can be improved by varying the nature and amount of the modulator employed to prepare the different UiO-66(Zr)-X(X:NH_(2) or NO_(2))solid ***-66(Zr)-NH_(2) was the most active photocatalyst,followed by UiO-66(Zr)-NO_(2),both prepared with 12 equivalents of AA with respect to the organic *** UiO-66(Zr)-NH_(2) solid was more active than the parent mOF in photocatalytic overall water splitting(OWS)(H_(2) and O_(2) production of 450 and 160μmol·g^(-1),respectively,in 5 h;apparent quantum yield(AQY)at 400 nm of 0.06%)in the absence of methanol and compares favourably with analogous *** on the photocatalytic activity of the most active solids of both series was obtained by means of a series of techniques,including ultraviolet-visible(UV-vis)diffuse reflectance,X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS),laser flash photolysis(LFP),electron spin resonance(ESR),photoluminescence and photoelectrochemical measurements together with density functional theory(DFT)*** results showed that organic acid modulators can be used to enhance the photocatalytic activity of missing linker UiO-66 defective materials in solar-powered water splitting.

Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma is an aggressive cancer with high recurrence rates following surgical *** adjuvant chemotherapy improves survival,a significant proportion of patients are unable to initiate or complete all intended therapy following pancreatectomy due to postoperative complications or poor performance *** administration of chemotherapy prior to surgical resection is an alternative strategy that ensures its early and near universal delivery as well as improves margin-negative resection rates and potentially improves long-term survival *** therapy is increasingly being recommended to patients with pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma,however,patient-centered research on its use is *** this review,we highlight opportunities to focus research efforts in the domains of patient preferences,patient-reported outcomes,patient experience,and *** research in these areas may identify relevant barriers and facilitators to the use of neoadjuvant therapy thereby increasing its utilization,improve shareddecision making for patients and providers,and optimize the experience of those undergoing neoadjuvant therapy.

Antibiotic resistance and its environmental component are gaining more attention as part of combating the growing healthcare crisis. The One Health framework, promulgated by many global health agencies, recognizes that antimicrobial resistance is a truly inter-domain problem in which human health, animal agriculture, and the environment are the core and interrelated *** prospectus presents the status and issues relevant to the environmental component of antibiotic resistance, namely, the needs for advancing surveillance methodology: the environmental reservoirs and sources of resistance, namely, urban wastewater treatment plants, aquaculture production systems, soil receiving manure and biosolid, and the atmosphere which includes longer range ***, much work has been done describing antibiotic resistance genes in various environments;now quantitative, mechanistic,and hypothesis-driven studies are needed to identify practices that reduce real risks and maintain the effectiveness of our current antibiotics as long as possible. Advanced deployable detection methods for antibiotic resistance in diverse environmental samples are needed in order to provide the surveillance information to identify risks and define barriers that can reduce risks. Also needed are practices that reduce antibiotic use and thereby reduce selection for resistance, as well as practices that limit the dispersal of or destroy antibiotic-resistant bacteria or their resistance genes that are feasible for these varied environmental domains.

Relational linkages connecting process,structure,and properties are some of the most sought after goals in additive manufacturing(Am).This is desired especially because the microstructural grain morphologies of Am components can be vastly different than their conventionally manufactured ***,data collection at the microscale is ***,this work describes and demonstrates a methodology to link microstructure morphology to mechanical properties using functional Gaussian process surrogate models in a directed graphical network capable of achieving near real-time property predictions with single digit error magnitudes when predicting full stress–strain histories of a given *** methodology is presented and demonstrated using computationally generated microstructures and results from crystal plasticity simulations on those *** surrogate model uses grain-level microstructural descriptors rather than whole microstructure descriptors so that properties of new,arbitrary microstructures can be *** developed network has the potential to scale to predict mechanical properties of grain structures that would be infeasible to simulate using finite element methods.

Low-cost disordered carbons for Li/S batteries： A high- performance carbon with dual porosity derived from cherry pits

A micro- and mesoporous carbon obtained from cherry pit waste and activated with HBPO4 acid has been studied as the sulfur host for Li/S batteries. The carbon has a high specific surface area of 1,662 m2·g-1 （SBET） and micropore and mesopore volumes of 0.57 and 0.40 cm3·g-1, respectively. The S/C composite, with a sulfur content of 57% deposited by the disproportionate reaction of a SaO2- solution in an acid medium without an additional heating step above the S melting point, delivers an initial specific capacity of 1,148 mah·g-1 at a current of C/16. It also has a high capacity retention of 915 mAh·g-1 after 100 cycles and a Coulombic efficiency close to 100%. The good performance of the composite was also observed under higher current rates and long-term cycling tests. The capacities delivered by the cell after 200 cycles were 707 and 410 mAh·g-1 at C/2 and 1C （1C = 1,675 mA·g-1）, respectively, maintaining the high Coulombic efficiency. The overall electrochemical response of this carbon as the sulfur matrix is among the best reported so far among the other biomass-derived carbons, probably because of the micro- and mesopore system formed upon activation.

Effect of Genome-Wide Genotyping and Reference Panels on Rare Variants Imputation

Common variants explain little of the variance of most common disease, prompting large-scale sequencing studies to understand the contribution of rare variants to these diseases. Imputation of rare variants from genome-wide genotypic arrays offers a cost-efficient strategy to achieve necessary sample sizes required for adequate statistical power. To estimate the performance of imputation of rare variants, we imputed 153 individuals, each of whom was genotyped on 3 different genotype arrays including 317k, 610k and 1 million single nucleotide polymorphisms （SNPs）, to two different reference panels： Hapmap2 and 1000 Genomes pilot march 2010 release （1KGpilot） by using ImPUTE version 2. We found that more than 94% and 84% of all SNPs yield acceptable accuracy （info 〉 0.4） in Hapmap2 and 1KGpilot-based imputation, respectively. For rare variants （minor allele frequency （mAF）〈5%）, the proportion of well- imputed SNPs increased as the mAF increased from 0.3% to 5% across all 3 genome-wide association study （GWAS） datasets. The proportion of well-imputed SNPs was 69%, 60% and 49% for SNPs with a mAF from 0.3% to 5% for 1m, 610k and 317k, respectively. None of the very rare variants （mAF 〈 0.3%） were well imputed. We conclude that the imputation accuracy of rare variants increases with higher density of genome-wide genotyping arrays when the size of the reference panel is small. Variants with lower mAF are more difficult to impute. These findings have important implications in the design and replication of large-scale sequencing studies.

Highly graphitized carbon nanosheets with embedded Ni nanocrystals as anode for Li-ion batteries

A C/Ni composite was prepared via thermal decomposition of a nickel oleate complex at 700℃,yielding disperse Ni nanocrystals with an average size of 20 nm,encapsulated by carbon nanosheets as deduced from transmission electron microscopy(TEm)images and confirmed from X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS).Furthermore,the X-ray diffraction pattern revealed a good ordering of the carbon layers,forced by the Ni encapsulation to adopt a bending *** the close interaction between the graphitized framework and the metallic nanoparticles we have studied the properties of the composite as an anode for Li-ion *** with other nanostructured synthetic carbons,this carbon composite has a low voltage hysteresis and a modest irreversible capacity value,properties that play a significant role in its behaviour as electrodes in full cell *** moderate rate values,0.25 C,the electrode delivers an average capacity value around 723 mAh·g^−1 on cycling,among the highest values so far reported for this carbon *** higher rate values,1 C,the average capacity values delivered by the cell on cycling decrease,around 205 mAh·g^−1,but it maintains good capacity retention,a coulombic efficiency close to 100%after the first cycles and recovery of the capacity values when the rate is restored from 3 to 0.1 C.

We analyzed the distributional patterns of95 selected species of leptosporangiate ferns inhabiting the mexican mountain Component, using grid-cells of one geographical degree as unit areas,applying endemism indices and richness and beta diversity *** data were obtained from several herbaria and specialized *** grid-cells appear to be important for fern species richness, as they contain 35 to 49 *** gridcells are located in the Sierra madre Oriental(SmO),Trans-mexican Volcanic Belt(TmVB) and the Sierra madre del Sur(SmS).mean richness by latitudinal belts of one degree showed that the belts with highest values are related to the TmVB and SmS.A total of 13grid-cells were recognized as important from theperspective of endemism; most of them are located also in the SmO, TmVB and *** richest gridcells coincided with one of the main centres of endemism for ferns obtained in this study, located in the convergence of the southern part of the SmO, the eastern portion of the TmVB and the northern part of the SmS, reflecting the high humidity existing on the mountain slopes facing the Gulf of *** important grid-cells recognized from richness and endemism analyses coincide with mexican natural Protected *** beta diversity analysis showed a low degree of similarity among grid-cells, implying a high species replacement, as the result of environmental heterogeneity occurring in the mexican mountain *** the other hand, the spatial analysis suggested a pattern of phytogeographical regionalization comprising twomain areas: the mexican Transition Zone and the mexican Central *** play an important role in the mexican biodiversity and contributing to the beta diversity of mexico.

Laparoscopic surgery in pregnancy

Each year, roughly 2% of pregnant women will undergo non-obstetrical abdominal surgery. Appendicitis, symptomatic cholelithiasis and adnexal masses are some of the common diagnoses encountered. Pregnancy poses challenges in the diagnosis and surgical management of these conditions for several reasons. Since the 1990's, laparoscopic surgery has gained popularity and in the past few years has become the standard of care for pregnant women with surgical pathologies. The advantages of laparoscopic surgery include shorter hospital stay, lower rates of wound infection, and decreased time to bowel function. This brief review discusses key points in laparoscopic surgery during pregnancy and highlights studies comparing laparoscopic and open approaches in common surgical conditions during pregnancy.
