This research was designed to analyze the possible associations of Arg389 Gly ADRB1 and Trp64 Arg ADRB3polymorphisms in children with obesity.A cross-sectional study included 1,046 school-age Mexican participants（6-12 years old） from the cities of San Luis Potosi and *** were classified as non-obese or obese according to their body mass index（BMI） percentile;obese children had a BMI≥95th percentile for sex and *** data were *** were detected using TaqMan qPCR assay.A logistic regression analysis was used to calculate the risk of obesity based on *** were found between groups where obese children had a significant increase in systolic and diastolic blood pressure,fasting plasma glucose,insulin,HOMAIR,LDL-cholesterol,triglycerides,and lower HDL-cholesterol compared with the normal weight group（P 〈 0.05）.The distribution of allele frequency in the population was Arg = 87.4 and Gly = 12.6（Hardy Weinberg equilibrium x^2= 3.16,P = 0.07）;Trp = 81.5 and Arg= 18.5（Hardy Weinberg equilibrium x^2 = 2.2,P = 0.14） for ADRB1 and ADRB3,*** though no different frequencies of Arg389 Gly polymoiphism between groups were found（P = 0.08）,children carriers of one Gly389,ADRB1 allele had a risk for obesity of OR = 1.40（95%CI,1.03-1.90,P =0.03） after adjustment for age and *** other association was found for Trp64 Arg ADRB3 *** the Arg389 Gly ADRB1 polymorphism was associated with risk for obesity in Mexican children.

Retrospective self-reported weight changes during childhood and adolescence are not good predictors of metabolic syndrome risk factors in Mexican young adults

The purpose of the study was to examine whether retrospective self-reported weight changes during childhood and adolescence were associated with metabolic syndrome (MetS) risk factors in Mexican young adults. Mexican college applicants to the Universidad Autónoma de San Luis Potosí, Mexico, 18 to 25 years old (n = 4187) who had applied for the 2009 academic year were included in the study. Participants underwent a health screening—anthropometrics and blood drawn—and completed a questionnaire. Five major weight change categories were defined based on self-reported weight during childhood and adolescence: consistently normal, consistently underweight, consistently overweight/ obese, weight gain, and weight loss. Most participants self-reported being normal weight during childhood (58.7%) and adolescence (58.3%). Only a small proportion reported being overweight or obese during childhood (10.1%) or adolescence (15.9%). Weight change patterns during childhood and adolescence were marked by overall stability: 40.1% of participants were consistently normal, 15.6% underweight and 3.6% overweight/obese. Among those whose weight changed, 25.0% gained weight and 15.7% lost weight. In regression analyses, weight change categories based on self-reported weight statuses during childhood and adolescence were not associated with current metabolic syndrome risk factors after controlling for measured current BMI. Studies addressing the association between weight gains in early life with metabolic syndrome outcomes in early adulthood should not rely on recalled weight status during early life alone.

Fused filament fabrication(FFF)is one of the additive manufacturing processes which has gained more interest because of its simplicity and *** technology is similar to the conventional metal injection moulding(MIM)process,consisting of the feedstock preparation of metal powder and polymer binders,followed by layer-by-layer 3D printing(FFF)or injection(MIM)to create green parts and,finally,debinding and ***,both technologies provide near-dense *** work presents an in-depth study of the processing method’s *** porosity,microstructure,hardness,corrosion,and tribocorrosion behaviour are compared for 17-4 PH SS samples processed from powder by additive manufacturing using FFF and MIM,as well as conventional powder metallurgy(PM)*** samples exhibited the highest macro and microhardness,while corrosion behaviour was similar for both MIM and FFF samples,but superior in comparison to conventional PM ***,the FFF-as fabricated samples displayed a significant improvement in tribocorrosion resistance that could be explained by the higher proportion of delta ferrite and retained austenite in their microstructure.

Comparison of climatic threshold of geographical distribution between dominant plants and surface pollen in China

The geographical distribution of dominant plant species in China was georeferenced and climatic variables were interpolated into all ***,the percentage distributions of principal pollen taxa based on 1860 surface pollen sites in China were selected and the related climate values were interpolated with the same method. The geographical and climatic comparison between the two data-sets indicated that the climate threshold of most pollen taxa from surface pollen is coherent with plant distributions. The climatic envelopes of dominant plant are mostly accordant with those of pollen taxa at certain levels. However, some distinct offsets of the climate ranges exist between the two datasets for most pollen taxa identified at family level, such as Ericaceae,Asteraceae, Poaceae and Chenopodiaceae. The present study provides for the first time rich information on temperature and precipitation in relation to pollen and plant distribution based on the datasets on a continental scale useful for global ecological modeling and Quaternary palaeoclimate reconstruction.

Consumption of Dairy and Metabolic Syndrome Risk in a Convenient Sample of Mexican College Applicants

The rise in metabolic syndrome (MetS) is accompanied by a decrease in milk and dairy consumption and an increase in sugar-sweetened beverage (SSB) consumption, with SSB possibly displacing dairy products in the diet. Our main objective was to determine whether young individuals not meeting the dairy recommendations of 3 servings per day were at greater risk for MetS. In a cross-sectional design, a food frequency questionnaire was answered by Mexican college applicants (n = 339). Medical examination at a primary health care center and evaluation for presence of MetS risk factors was completed as part of an ongoing collaborative project. Relative risk analyses were used to assess the impact of meeting or not the dairy recommendations for the presence of MetS. The MetS prevalence was 10. Three-fourths (76%) of participants were not meeting the daily recommendations. Individuals who failed to meet dairy recommendations were at 2.9 times greater risk for MetS when controlling for age, sex, family history of cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes, and physical activity. We did not found that SSB were displacing dairy products in the diet. Still, our data support the importance of meeting daily dairy recommendations for the prevention of MetS in young adults.

How 'Sustainable' are Post-disaster Measures? Lessons to Be Learned a Decade After the 2004 Tsunami in the Indian Ocean

This article addresses the sustainability implications of post-disaster measures in the context of the 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami by presenting an analysis of the current situations and changes in some of the affected regions. Sustainability implications of measures are captured by investigating the persistence of the social and economic living conditions in relation to post-disaster measures, and the alignment of the measures with basic environmental aspects. Based on major concepts relevant in disaster science and sustainability research, the study explored sustainability aspects of post-disaster measures implemented after the 2004 tsunami, by conducting selected interviews among the participants of the 2015 international seminar ‘‘11 Years after the Indian Ocean Tsunami 2004'' and a broader online survey. Information was sought about(1) the current state of vulnerability of the local population in the regions affected;(2) the main lessons that have been identified to improve project design and management of recovery and vulnerability reduction;and(3) project sustainability implications with respect to the state of today's vulnerability. Based on the analysis of the information on these three priority areas, selected tasks for future disaster risk management are identified, such as more integrative planning and improved coordination with international organizations and local people.

Mechanisms of Optimal Defense Patterns in Nicotiana attenuata: Flowering Attenuates Herbivory-elicited Ethylene and Jasmonate Signaling

To defend themselves against herbivore attack, plants produce secondary metabolites, which are variously inducible and constitutively deployed, presumably to optimize their fitness benefits in light of their fitness costs. Three phytohormones, jasmonates （JA） and their active forms, the JA-isoleucine （JA-Ile） and ethylene （ET）, are known to play central roles in the elicitation of induced defenses, but little is known about how this mediation changes over ontogeny. The Optimal Defense Theory （ODT） predicts changes in the costs and benefits of the different types of defenses and has been usefully extrapolated to their modes of deployment. Here we studied whether the herbivore-induced accumulation of JA, JA-Ile and ET changed over ontogeny in Nicotiana attenuata, a native tobacco in which inducible defenses are particularly well studied. Herbivore-elicited ET production changed dramatically during six developmental stages, from rosette through flowering, decreasing with the elongation of the first corollas during flower development. This decrease was largely recovered within a day after flower removal by decapitation. A similar pattern was found for the herbivore-induced accumulation of JA and JA-Ile. These results are consistent with ODT predictions and suggest that the last steps in floral development control the inducibility of at least three plant hormones, optimizing defense-growth tradeoffs.

Clinical value of rapid urine trypsinogen-2 test strip, urinary trypsinogen activation peptide, and serum and urinary activation peptide of carboxypeptidase B in acute pancreatitis

AIM: To assess the usefulness of urinary trypsinogen-2 test strip, urinary trypsinogen activation peptide (TAP),and serum and urine concentrations of the activation peptide of carboxypeptidase B (CAPAP) in the diagnosisof acute ***: Patients with acute abdominal pain and hospitalized within 24 h after the onset of symptoms were prospectively studied. Urinary trypsinogen-2 was considered positive when a clear blue line was observed (detection limit 50 μg/L). Urinary TAP was measured using a quantitative solid-phase ELISA, and serum and urinary CAPAP by a radioimmunoassay ***: Acute abdominal pain was due to acute pancreatitis in 50 patients and turned out to be extrapancreatic in origin in 22 patients. Patients with acute pancreatitis showed significantly higher median levels of serum and urinary CAPAP levels, as well as amylase and lipase than extrapancreatic controls. Median TAP levels were similar in both groups. The urinary trypsinogen-2 test strip was positive in 68% of patients with acute pancreatitis and 13.6% in extrapancreatic controls (P<0.01). Urinary CAPAP was the most reliable test for the diagnosis of acute pancreatitis (sensitivity 66.7%, specificity 95.5%, positive and negative predictive values 96.6% and 56.7%, respectively), with a 14.6 positive likelihood ratio for a cut-off value of 2.32 nmol/***: In patients with acute abdominal pain,hospitalized within 24 h of symptom onset, CAPAP in serum and urine was a reliable diagnostic marker of acute pancreatitis. Urinary trypsinogen-2 test strip showed a clinical value similar to amylase and *** TAP was not a useful screening test for the diagnosis of acute pancreatitis.

Finding effective therapies for hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)is an ongoing challenge for both researchers and *** for new treatment options emerging from in vitro,preclinical,and clinical studies is often tempered by limited patient benefits and associated side effects,tolerated in some cases due to the lack of *** complexity of identifying effective treatment options resides in several features of HCC,notably the extraordinary heterogeneity in molecular alterations among different patients(1-3),the lack of consistent alterations associated with oncogene addictions(4),and a so-called“non-oncogene addiction”by which tumorigenicity results from the action of non-mutated genes(5,6).This complex configuration also prevents identification of unequivocal alterations used to design therapies,as for some other cancer *** HCC treatments are based on the Barcelona Clinic Liver Cancer(BCLC)guidelines according to the stage of lesions among other *** HCC at early stages(30-40%of HCC patients),treatments include lesion resection,liver transplantation,radiofrequency ablation(RFA)and microwave ablation(MWA),achieving a median overall survival(OS)of more than 60 *** HCC at intermediate stages(~20%of HCC patients),the advised treatment is generally transarterial chemoembolization(TACE),achieving an OS of 20 *** HCC at advanced stages(~40%of HCC patients),targeted therapies are the most frequent treatments,leading to an OS of 11 months with most targeted *** HCC at terminal stages,only palliative care is provided(~10%of HCC patients),with less than 3 months OS(7,8).
