Objective:To evaluate the potential toxic effects of mine tailings exposure among the fisher folks residing near and far from the Calancan Bay,Marinduque,using the micronucleus assay as an ***:The fisher folks residing near and far from the Calancan Bay were interviewed and the presence and frequency of cells with micronucleus in exfoliated buccal epithelial cells were ***:Results showed that the prevalence of cells with micronucleus was higher among the fisher folks who were directly exposed to the mine tailings as compared with those fisher folks who reside in a community without exposure of mine tailings and history of mining(ppresence and the significant difference in the cells with micronuclei observed near the Calancan Bay could possibly indicate a prolonged chemical stress caused by the toxic heavy metals in the mine tailings and the environment.

peyronie’s disease(pD)is a condition of penile connective tissue affecting up to 10%of men *** the complexity ofits management,nonsurgical treatments,such as intraplaque injections,are gaining *** current literature shows dataon the efficacy of intraplaque injections of hyaluronic acid(HA)mainly in acute-phase ***,data on injections of HA instable-phase pD are *** for this retrospective study were derived from a prospectively maintained database of privatepatients presenting at a private medical practice affiliated to the University of Naples“Federico II”(Naples,Italy)with stable-phasepD between January 2020 and March *** underwent a standard protocol of three injections,each administered at atwo-week *** the intervals,patients performed vacuum device therapy,penile stretching,and modeling *** compiled the peyronie’s Disease Questionnaire(pDQ)and Global Assessment of peyronie’s Disease(GApD)at baselineand 2 weeks after the third injection.A penile Doppler ultrasound was performed 2 weeks after the last injection to record thefinal ***,we recruited 62 patients with stable-phase pD and a mean(±standard deviation[s.d.])curvature of52.7°(±9.7°).After 6 weeks,eight(12.9%)patients did not experience any curvature *** remaining 54 patientshad a final mean(±s.d.)curvature of 40.3°(±9.1°)with ppared to that before *** found improvement inall pDQ domains(all p≤0.01),and 50(80.6%)patients reported subjective improvement of the penile curvature according to *** conclusion,we demonstrated that after three injections of HA administered according to the adopted protocol,patientswith stable-phase pD could experience significant improvements in penile curvature,and physical and psychological consequencesof the disease without significantly relevant side effects.

Background:Small populations that have been isolated by conflict make vaccination and surveillance difficult,threatening polio *** circulation is caused by asymptomatic *** is currently not clear whether the dynamics of waning immunity also influence the risk of silent circulation in the absence of *** circulation can,nevertheless,be present following a declaration of elimination as a result of inadequate acute flaccid paralysis surveillance(AFpS)or environmental surveillance(ES).Methods:We have constructed a stochastic model to understand how stochastic effects alter the ability of small populations to sustain virus circulation in the absence of *** analyzed how the stochastic process determinants of the duration of silent circulation that could have been detected by ES were affected by R0,waning dynamics,population size,and AFpS sensitivity in a discrete individual stochastic model with homogeneous contagiousness and random *** measured the duration of silent circulation both by the interval between detected acute flaccid paralysis(AFp)cases and the duration of circulation until ***:As R0 increased and population size increased,the interval between detected AFp cases and the duration of circulation until elimination *** AFpS detection rates decreased,the interval between detected AFp cases *** was up to a 22%chance of silent circulation lasting for more than 3 years with 100%AFp *** duration of silent circulation was not affected by the waning immunity ***:We demonstrated that small populations have the potential to sustain prolonged silent *** in these areas should be intensified before declaring *** further validate these conclusions,it is necessary to realistically relax the simplifying assumptions about mixing and waning.

Objective:To study anemia in AIDS patients and its relation with socioeconomic, employment status and educational ***:A total number of 442 patients who visited the Infectious Diseases University Hospital in Buenos Aires, Argentina were included in the study. patients were dividied into two groups,*** with anemia and the other without anemia. Anemia epidemiology and its relationship with educational level, housing, job situation, monthly income, total daily caloric intake and weekly intake of meat were ***:Anemia was found in 228 patients(54%). Comparing patients with or without anemia, a statistically significant difference was found(pprimary school, who lived in a precarious home, who had no stable job or were unable to work, whose income was less than 30 dollars per month, whose meat consumption was less than twice a week or received less than 8000 calories per ***:The high prevalence of anemia found in poor patients with AIDS suggests that poverty increases the risk to suffer from this hematological *** relationship between economic development policies and AIDS is complex. Our results seem to point to the fact that AIDS epidemic may affect economic development and in turn be affected by it. If we consider that AIDS affects the economically active adult population, despite recent medical progress it usually brings about fatal consequences, especially within the poorest sectors of society where the disease reduces the average life expectancy, increases health care demand and tends to exacerbate poverty and iniquity.

purpose: Transthyretin cardiac amyloidosis (ATTR-CA) has been linked to many extra-cardiac manifestations including bilateral carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS). The aim of this study is to analyze patients with bilateral CTS to identify patients with high-risk features or “red flags” for ATTR-CA, identify if systematic screening was done for ATTR-CA and define opportunities for improved detection. Methods: Out of >5000 patients with bilateral CTS evaluated in a single tertiary care center in Southeast Michigan (2010-2016), we retrospectively studied a focused population of patients: men > 50 years and women > 60 years old with bilateral CTS and atrial fibrillation (n = 295). Baseline demographic, comorbidities, and electrocardiographic and echocardiographic findings were analyzed. A high-risk group suspicious for ATTR-CA was identified as patients with bilateral CTS, atrial fibrillation, and concomitant “red flags” including heart failure and left ventricular hypertrophy. Results: Out of 295 patients, 51.2% were female, 75.6% were White, and 22.4% were African American. Upon comparing the high-risk group (n = 67) with the remaining study population (n = 228), both diagnosis of ATTR-CA and mortality were higher among the high-risk group (7.5% vs 0.4% and 43.3% vs 24.6%, respectively, p = 0.003). Conclusions: A substantial number of bilateral CTS patients had additional “red flags” warranting formal evaluation for ATTR-CA;however, systematic evaluation for cardiac amyloidosis was not performed in many patients. This emphasizes that Multidisciplinary collaboration is needed to create a systematic workflow and to raise awareness amongst cardiologists and other physicians for suspecting ATTR-CA in bilateral CTS patients who have additional “red flags”.
