The peritrophic matrix （PM） is essential for insect digestive system physiol- ogy as it protects the midgut epithelium from damage by food particles, pathogens, and toxins. The PM is also an attractive target for development of new pest control strategies due to its per os accessibility. To understand how the PM performs these functions, the molecular architecture of the PM was examined using genomic and proteomic approaches in Mamestra configurata （Lepidoptera： Noctuidae）, a major pest of cruciferous oilseed crops in North America. Liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry analyses of the PM identified 82 proteins classified as：（i） peritrophins, including a new class with a CBDIII domain; （ii） enzymes involved in chitin modification （chitin deacetylases）, di- gestion （serine proteases, aminopeptidases, carboxypeptidases, lipases and ^-amylase） or other reactions （/^-l,3-glucanase, alkaline phosphatase, dsRNase, astacin, pantetheinase）; （iii） a heterogenous group consisting of polycalin, REPATs, serpin, C-Type lectin and Lsti99/Lsti201 and 3 novel proteins without known orthologs. The genes encoding PM proteins were expressed predominantly in the midgut, cDNAs encoding chitin synthase-2 （McCHS-2）, chitinase （McCHI）, and fl-N-acetylglucosaminidase （McNAG） enzymes, in- volved in PM chitin metabolism, were also identified. McCHS-2 expression was specific to the midgut indicating that it is responsible for chitin synthesis in the PM, the only chitinous material in the midgut. In contrast, the genes encoding the chitinolytic enzymes were expressed in multiple tissues. McCHS-2, McCHI, and McNAG were expressed in the midgut of feeding larvae, and NAG activity was present in the PM. This information was used to generate an updated model of the lepidopteran PM architecture.

Poetry can be seen as a means for communicating a message in a unique vision. The same can be applied to cinema. Literature precedes the making of a film in most cases. The preparation for a movie is written in much details, be it for stories, scenes, dialogues, storyboards, or technical descriptions. In that extend, words are the genesis of cinema. Poetry is a unique way to express one"s point of view in a metaphoric way, far from common means of communicating a message. This purpose is the one of many a film director with daring, controversial, or highly personal ideas. The study will concentrate on the link of cinema with poetry based on the concept of rhymes and rhythms.

Comparison of inconclusive rates between suction rectal biopsy and open strip rectal biopsy in children of different age groups:a single-center retrospective study

background Rectal biopsy for the diagnosis for Hirschsprung's disease(HD)can be performed in several *** rectal biopsy(SRB)is the most widely used method for neonates and younger infants while open strip biopsy(OSB)is reserved for older *** notions suggest that SRB should not be used in older infants due to perceived thicker fibrous tissue in their rectal walls leading to higher rates of inconclusive *** study aims to compare the inconclusive rates of both methods in children of different age *** A retrospective study were carried out with patients aged 13 years who underwent SRB or OSB during a 4-year period in a single *** biopsies were performed on patients with HD with previous endorectal pull-through surgeries *** outcomes were rates of inconclusive results for SRB and OSB overall and when divided into different age *** 79 biopsies(57 SRB and 22 OSB)were included in the study.12 biopsies(9 SRB and 3 OSB)were deemed *** was no significant difference in the rate of inconclusive results between patients underwent SRB and OSB overall(15.8%vs 13.6%,p=1.000).The same results were obtained when patients were divided into under one year and over one year groups or other different age groups(30.0%vs 33.3%,p=1.000).Conclusions Despite low biopsy numbers,our study suggests that SRB provides comparable rates of inconclusive results with OSB in children of all age groups.
